Let me offer the only positive I see in this- the local police were appalled and in one story I read, angry, at being told to stand down.

That's different, at least, from JFK where some (Not all, by any means) of the local police seemed to be involved.

You can probably bet that if something had happened, they would have turned around and tried to pin it on the very people who WANTED to do their job.

Does the Secret Service really have the power to override the locals- especially when it comes to protecting people in a local venue? I suppose they do but I wonder if the local police could have appealed that up the ladder really quickly?

What congressional committee would have the power to look into this? Not that I'm expecting a lot, but it's worth a try.

Direct non-violent action has over a century of proven success around the world.

Dredd, did you notice I already asked you to show me the successes that have been achieved from this strategy of "all blog/talk, no direct action" you promote? Why is Dredd not listing all the success of this "all talk/blog, no direct action" tactic? Perhaps because any successes are very few, very small in impact, and very far between in timeframe.

I provided to you the suggestion that you would be best served to go educate yourself in the works of Gandhi and MLK. Read what they said. Learn from THEM.

I do understand your argument that "actions speak louder than words". Which is true in its context.

Everything needs a context, and our discussion is in the context of this thread, which exposes the danger done to Obama.

The federal Secret Service officer spoke the words "remove the weapons detection stations" and it was done. He did nothing in the nature of action, he just spoke words.

Fortunately his words did not lead to the death of Obama who uses words for better purposes.

So I guess we can say that there is a time when words alone will work, and a time when words must be accompanied by actions.

It depends on the context.

They are now denying the testimony of three or so Dallas policemen who said the Secret Service ordered them to take down weapon detection stations.

I picked up on a racial aspect of Secret Service and White House operations while following the name of Eric Zahren (the SS's Snow Job):

Perhaps race has something to do with how long the weapons detectors stay up too ... I mean since it has relevance to who is invited to dinner?

Secret Service is under Homeland Security. The Protective Operations Division is responsible for presidential (family) and canidate protection. This is under the direct control of the president ...Mein Bush. Only through executive order can you be protected.

Benzir Bhutto was shot in a public venue where security had been lowered as well.

Since when do empty seats and long lines supersede the imperative of safety at all costs? The story appears to be getting murky and I would suggest the pressure on the poor officers reporting the truth will be unbearable. This is literally an outrage that defies explanation. The SS is now telegraphing to psychos what their modis operandi is. Bring Guns Late.

Hopefully Olberman/Stewart and the likes will get on this story. This story will be buried so fast our heads will spin. This might be a stupid analogy, but this story reminds me of how Lee Harvey Oswald was murdered. He either was one of the best pathological liars of all time or should have co-starred in a movie with Brando.

The actions that enabled Ruby to kill Oswald couldn't have seemed more deliberate. Not protecting Obama has the same kind of stench to it.
