Thanks to Dr. King, Rosa Parks, and all of you involved in helping rid America of racist power.
In the long years since we have made progress. But many realize we must push on.
The corruption of power is still here, and we must not go backward, back to the ignorance and fear.

Thanks, David, for feeding this back to us. I've been needing a good cry for some time now. Dr. King's message is, sadly, more relevant now than ever...

I liked King because he was a Baptist preacher and wanted change thru peace and by the courts.
The South gets unduly bashed because people believe the South is racist. King said he found more "hatred in Chicago than in Alabama and Mississippi."
Malcolm X wanted equality by "any means possible" which included violence. He went to Mecca and changed his mind about the violence. He lost his life for it by one of his own.
Lets not forget that some black leaders did not like King's message of peace. They called him "Martin Loser King." Today, we still have separatists like Farrakhan and poverty pimps like Jackson. Jackson derives his power from it.
It is a fact that the following keeps people out of poverty:
1. Get at least a high school degree
2. Get a job, any job, and stick with it
3. Do not get pregnant out of wedlock
4. Get married and stay married
5. Stay away from illegal drugs
The Democrat Party are the new plantation owners and blacks are starting to leave the plantation. If 15 - 25% of African-Americans voted Republican, the Democrat Party would be over as we know it. The Democrats know this and they must keep blacks on the plantation. I am not the one calling the Democrats the new plantation owners, the ones who have left the plantation are saying it.
And let's not forgot that Bull Connor was a Democrat.
I welcome African-Americans to the Republican Party. Join us and see that we want you to be prosperous and free. Join the party of Abe Lincoln.

I carry a picture of Dr. King in my wallet. He is enshrined among my family and loves whose pictures are framed throughout my home. He is, with Rosa and John Lennon and JFK and RFK, impossible to be killed, someone whose death could not kill his greatness, the deathless universal spirit of true humanity that shines through every word and act of those whose selflessness transcends everything unworthy in the world.
We are pissing on his grave.
WE ARE PISSING ON ALL THEIR GRAVES.
Who could rest until it is stopped?

No, Rush Limbaugh is. You're just repeating the racist, hateful, opportunistic, fallacious propoganda.
Please take your racist, divisive horseshit to a blog that appreciates that sort of garbage. You are a pariah here, along with the minority of American's that you (shamefully) represent.

Quoth Al Sharpton: "It is James Crow, Jr., Esq. who must be dealt with now." THAT is the Republican bid for black votes, and embodied by people like Rice, Powell and Thomas. Republicans sure DO want African Americans! So they can elevate a few of the most cowardly cast of character, and mistreat and disenfranchise the rest out of their claim to the American Dream. They would do it as thoroughly as they have the Fundamentalist Christians whom they have duped into supporting them by manipulating their fears.
Luckily for all America, black Americans can see through this shit.
I can't bring myself to listen to *'s speech today, the travesty of such a Nazi daring to speak on Martin's birthday, and thank our lucky stars that Al Gore stood up to honor it in the truest sense.

Brad thank you for posting this. It was great to watch (again) and to remember that after all these years, we still have such a long way to go.
Join the Republican party? Not while the lying opportunistic murderers lead it, sending thousands to their deaths in the sands of the middle East, while violating law after law. The republican party has no ethics, no soul, and I think Lincoln today would be thoroughly ashamed to be associated with such a mean, low band of criminals.

Thank you so much for posting the video --- the speech is as inspiring and inspiriting today as it was when I first heard it when Dr. King delivered it. How feeble most speeches these days seem in comparison! The impassioned and unembarrassed use of vibrant metaphor, the man's demeanor as he spoke, the reaction of his audience...all as fresh in my mind as when I first witnessed them. It still brings tears to my eyes.

AS for the Paul the republiclown, please the SOUTH was very racist, as was the nation. But the south escpecially. It took the National Guard to allow students to go to school. That was not in Chicago but in the south. Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia where by far the most racist states in the union.
As for fishing for republicans, Brad said it best, please take your right-wing propaganda to blogs for idiots. Bush in 2000 received 8% of the black vote. Which is the lowest in history. Bush in 2004 recieved only 11% of the black vote.
There is a reson for that. That is because the mantra of the republican party is property and property rights, for which blacks have always be excluded. The Civil Rights Act, that was passed by a Democratic President not a Republican.
So please put your fiction where it belongs...in the TRASH!

Paul and Ricky,
Are you clones or the same person because it seems your giving us the same horseshit answer every single time. You say that Repubs care for black people but I don't know. I think someone said once on live TV that "George Bush doesn't care about black people." Hmmm who was that now? Oh wait... Kanye West! I think that there may also be a few people in New Orleans that have opposing views. Maybe there are some here on the blog that can tell you what they think. Bottom line here is if your going to give us the same half-assed remarks why don't you have the respect to do it without using a very respected and honorable man towards your political gain.

and YOU people (neocons) would surreptitiously spy on King, compile 16,000 pages of documents about every conversation and meeting he ever had, try to drive his family apart, try to drive him to suicide, and when all that fails to discourage him from encouraging blacks to stand up for liberty and justice, have him assassinated. I do not hold the same views as King did concerning religion, leaning towards atheism/agnosticism as I do. But he was a private citizen and had as much right to his religious views as I do to mine. If he fought for social justice and peace because of his religion, more power to him. He never told me or anyone else that they had to be a Christian. He appealed to Christians and other people "of faith" to consider the roots of their faith. If he had spoken as a politician so much about God being the impetus behind all of his decisions, I would have a problem with it, because it would be an endorsement of a religioius perspective. But he wasn't a politician, he was a preacher and a private citizen who did great good in the world. Look to Jimmy Carter. A good man, and a man of faith, who recognized the separation between his personal and his public life as an elected official and representative of the people. King had no such obligation.
Man you are such a tool.

What about ol' Hillary bringing up the plantation line on MLK day? Is she copying me since I said it first? She has some great stuff that can be used during the "political free-speech ads" for her next office run, whatever that will be. Is she a hate-filled racist pariah too?

Hey #14
> That is because the mantra of the republican party is property and property rights -
True words spoken by a leftist, socialist, or communist!
I bet there are more African-Americans owning homes in my neighborhood than in yours Ripoll.
> That was not in Chicago but in the south. Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia where by far the most racist states in the union.
I was quoting MLK himself. King said he found "more hatred in Chicago than in Alabama and Mississippi."
And which Party freed the slaves?
Which Party help pass the 1964 Civil Rights act?
Answer -
"Remember that the Republicans were the minority party at the time. Nonetheless, H.R.7152 passed the House on Feb. 10, 1964. Of the 420 members who voted, 290 supported the civil rights bill and 130 opposed it.
Republicans favored the bill 138 to 34; Democrats supported it 152-96. Republicans supported it in higher proportions than Democrats. Even though those Democrats were Southern segregationists, without Republicans the bill would have failed. Republicans were the other much-needed leg of the Civil Rights Act of 1964."
Kooks cannot get passed history correct and are trying to re-write current history today.
Just an FYI -
History, by the way, is "His Story" and Holiday is "Holy Day." Hmmm!

Lincoln's Republican party and Bush's Republican party are not the same. You show yourself to be a true Bush Republican when you make this comment, in that today's Republicans are entirely deceptive and insincere in their motives.
Read the following from Lincoln, and tell me with a straight face that he would consider himself a political of Bush:
"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed."
You're so predictably boring.

Guys, Paul has been shown SEVERAL times that his "history lesson" is bullshit and he leaves out very serious pieces to make sure it fits his agenda.. Like a true neocon whore, he lies and disinforms to try and look valid, but under the covers, he's all decieit and ignorance..
Today's Republicans are not anything like historical republicans, nor are today's dems like historical dems. In fact, to those of us paying attention, we see that the 2 parties are almost fully melded now, with only some stark differences on basic principles. Dems tend to be more for "helping people" (the masses, not just people who contribute lots of money), while Repugs tend to "help businesses" (at the -expense- of people). Otherwise, they BOTH get caught up in being baught by companies, special interests, etc. The government "of the people, by the people, for the people" is OBVIOUSLY more catered to by Dems.. but that's exactly what pisses off the neocons about them.. and why their mantra is all about "party politics".. they don't have a moral or justified stance on their positions for fucking over the masses (other than monitary gain, but they can't just say "fuck millions, let them die.. if it means I get more money!" despite that being their belief), so they fabricate things to cause emotional outrage (knowing full well that when people are emotionally charged, they don't think clearly).
Republicans suck, Neocons are just plain evil..

My sincere hope is that the day will come when words of brotherhood and men will expand to include all people. American women are among the freest in the world, yet full equality still has not been achieved.
