It’s really unbelievable. If you’ve read anything here of late on the many out and out lies of Fox News, it’s incredible that not only are they not held accountable as a “news organization” for those lies (not mistakes, mind you, as in the Rather case, but simply bald-faced lies) that they are never held accountable for anything. Even by those folks who were so “outraged” by the Rather case and called for his resignation and suggested that CBS no longer has credibility about anything.
Well, guess what? Even after Carl Cameron (Chief campaign correspondent for Fox, wife works for George W. Bush, and assigned by Fox to cover Kerry’s campaign) simply made up fake Kerry quotes and posted them to the Fox website yesterday, he’s still at it today as Atrios notes.
Yes, a known 527 parody group set up by Republicans is calling themselves “Communists for Kerry” was interviewed by Cuticle Carl who filed a report today filled with quotes from this fake group such as: “Even though he, too, is a capitalist, he supports my socialist values more than President Bush … The North Koreans are my comrades to a point, and I’m sure they support Comrade Kerry, too.”
It’s just amazing. See the Atrios story — especially you Rightwing hypocrites who dare read this Blog and yet still offer your bullshit mock outrage about Rather — for full details. Anything to win. No moral compass necessary.
Are there any wingnuts here with the stones to publically call for the immediate resignation of Carl Cameron who has been allowed to continue covering Kerry even after both of these stories?

I used to work in the journalism business, which is why I hate it when bias so obviously tarnishes a news report.
Rather was guilty of it by letting his bias cloud his judgement. But this guy just intentionally puts out false news.
He’d be right at home in Moscow, circa 1956.
Uh, yeah…and how about the Fox Net itself for continuing to allow him to cover the Kerry Campaign (which, frankly, he should have *never* even been assigned to since his wife works for Bush!)

Letting him cover Kerry is a lack of common sense and integrity. Whoever did it should be fired. It goes w/o saying that Carl should be booted.
And they wonder why some people see them as the GOP shill network.
Come on guys, is anything less expected of Fox news? Brit Hume was chosen to run its political coverage precisely because he was a well known partisan. This is a guy who met with the former President Bush to play tennis privately while covering him. This is the guy who said that Americans were more likely to die in California than in Iraq. This is a guy who defended Bush’s tasteless jokes about not being able tofind WMD by criticising the families of those who have died in Iraq as seeking victim status and told them they should just "get over it".
This is the team collected by Roger Ailes and no one shouldpretend that its anything like fair and balanced. This is a company that successfully defended itself in court for firing two reporters by claiming they had no obligation to tell the truth.
One last comment. Look at how they treat their guests. Susan Estrich, for example. When she is announced it is inevitably mentioned that she workedfor Mike Dukakis. She joined that team 17 years ago. Wouldn’t it be interesting to know what she did in the meantime? Like, for instance, that she was on Scwarzenegger’s transition team. SO when she gets on Faux and lets the rightists have the day and makes it seem as if Democrats have no alternative it is never mentioned that he last political job was for a Republican.
Its not just one problem with one reporter; the whole damned thing stinks.
