You don't have to be a lawyer to see that this President is above the law. As I speak the Bush legal team "Gonzo" is putting together legislation to protect Bush from being held responsible. He will argue that it is his job to take whatever action he feels necessary to protect the American people so he cannot be responsible if he makes bad judgments. His arguement falls apart when you look at his oath to protect and defend the constitution which he has chosen to attack and destroy in every move he makes even refering to it as a Goddamn piece of paper. He has no respect for any freedom except for that of his buddies. They want freedom to control. Of coarse he should be impeached. Probably the whole family should have served time for several frauds committed to this nation and other nations of the world. They are above the law. Judges refuse to hear cases and when they do they just give them deal of a lifetime. Besides GW and CO. will just use tax dollars for thier legal fund to appeal anything right to the Supreme Court. Though they should be able to get the right apeals judge to hear it before it gets that far. They do conspire to profit and dominate. It is thier culture and they feel it is thier inherent right to be the rulers of this world.

The people who fought the Nazis in the Resistance must have felt hopeless about their chances to stop them but continued fighting at great personal risk because they had no moral choice and they won.
CALL TO ACTION
Starting at noon on September 1 2006, major websites and blogs all across the internet will replace their front pages with the single word “Impeach” in simple white text on a black background.
For additional impeachment resources, visit
http://www.AfterDowningStreet.org
Doesn’t talk of impeachment just play into the Republican Party’s hands? That’s what they want us to think. Nancy Pelosi, for one, seems to have bought that argument. We don’t. We think that many thoughtful Republicans are looking at the abridgements of Constitutional Democracy perpetrated by this administration against the citizens and the Congress of the United States and understand that impeachment is a very real solution, and they are scared.
Could Bush really be impeached? Yes, and we have a moral obligation to carry this through.

Thanks for running this announcement and threat. I encourage anyone interested in the impeachment issue to watch this C-Span program. It is 75 minutes long, including an audience Q&A, and covers most of your questions and many more. Barbara has a wealth of information regarding the detainees and those who have been subject to "extraordinary rendition" (Kidnapping), and torture. It's worth the time just for that. (I'm pretty good too!). See you there.

Calls for impeachment should be withheld until November. Today's efforts should be focused on Democratic Congressional victories. After Victory Day there will be ample time and an enormous amount of evidence for impeachment.

Hopefully both Bush and Cheney will be impeached at the same time along with all the other criminals now occupying the executive branch.
Article II, section 4 of the second best written piece of English the world has ever seen (best is the Declaration of Independence - and I'm English!):
The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

On that whole Constitutional thing:
1) It's just a goddamn piece of paper
2) If the president does it, it's not illegal
Truth Seeker says wait until after Nov to put energy behind impeachment. I disagree (respectfully). I have little hope that Conyers et al will persuade a Democratic majority to move to impeachment hearings, and they certainly won't do it without the momentum of a citizen movement.
Don't let the momentum diminish. ITMFA.

I agree 100% with Soul Rebel. I don't think it is at all inconceivable that a Democratic majority will say, "It's time to heal the wounds. We will strive to bring civility and bipartisanship into Congress." Even if they decide to go for impeachment, they may not be committed enough to pull out the stops to get the information they need in the face of stonewalling (national security, you know) and Republican fear-mongering.
(Of course, impeachment really isn't a partisan issue. It's an issue of competence and high crimes and the constitutional remedy.)
There has to be a strong citizen movement for impeachment, IMO...the stronger the better leading up to actual impeachment.
In regard to Cheney, I don't see how it would be possible to bring out the evidence in an impeachment trial and for him to remain in office. He would have to be impeached or forced to resign.

I have to agree with Soul Rebel & Arry about impeachment. We have to keep beating the drum. Some good people are focused on getting Dems elected, others are more fired up about impeachment. That's a good thing.
This is a big, messy fight. We don't need to all be focused on one thing, or agree with one another on every point, imho. On the main points I think most of us pretty much agree.

Yes, just watched the whole thing. What I like the most is that the articles of impeachment are all ready to go for the minute we boot out the nitwits in Congress who have been blocking it. Never in our history have we had such a strong case for impeachment.
This is the most urgent reason why we cannot wait for some shining knight to make elections whole and fair and workable again. We cannot stand for the November election being stolen. Everything depends on it.

I'm not religious, but I'll be praying anyway for my home town, Salt Lake City, to be a catalyst for the impeachment of these creeps!
I'm excited that there will be a coordinated website effort calling for impeachment the day after we hold our hopefully gigantic Anti-Bush rally here complete with a speech from Cindy Sheehan and a march up State Street. George, Condi and Rumsfeld are converging on Salt Lake to hide behind the American Legion, but there are a lot of us that will be trying to let the air out of his scheme.
I have been carrying my brand new "Support The Troops-Impeach Bush" sign, (somebody took off with the one I posted a picture of here recently) relentlessly for the last week and am handing out hundreds of flyers to true believers, (people who honk and love my effort).
I could be handing out literally thousands of them if I could get to all the interested people, but a very nice police officer told me to get out of the middle of the street today. The bad news is that since Chimpy will be here on Wednesday during work hours, many people who are dying to attend will probably not risk their jobs. Come on employers, this is your country too! Wake up and organize car pools!
There was a bizarre announcement by a Democratic Latino group who said they would be having a rally in support of the monkey. The Republicans were going to stage a pro-Bush rally, but I've been told it was called off. I wonder if the response was so pathetic that they didn't want to embarras themselves. Damn, I was going to take pictures of a crowd of really stupid people to pass around the internet! Please come back!
If Bush does get impeached, I will be carrying an American flag down the middle of the street, COPS OR NO!

Excellent excellent discussion ! Thank you for letting us know about this wonderful, informative channel. Finally some straight talk.
You know we in America think we have all the answers. But Hezzbolah was actually giving cash to those whose homes were lost during the bombing. This group has supplied teachers and other aid. So who understands people better? Doesn't matter if their intentions are evil, people just care what touches their life, today.
Before Bush rushed into war, we wondered why not set up aid stations with medical care for people on the borders of countries who still liked us. Show people a better way than living under Saddam. In other words how about diplomacy?
But no, this administration only understands destroying, not building. And anyway it is not their children fighting this illegal war or even their tax money, it is our kids and our money.
America is the schoolyard bully today, but tomorrow a bigger bully with scarier weapons will come and who will be our friends then?

I haven't seen the CSPAN show on impeachment yet but it is hard for me to get any optimism that impeachment is possible. I hope upon hope that I am wrong but I have little optimism that the Democrats will take back either the House or the Senate in the Fall. In fact, I have little hope, in general, for the Democratic Party as it is currently constituted and everything Brad said in his 8/23 post made me think I am sadly correct in being discouraged about the potential for the bunch of petrified minds that dominate that party to defeat the monsters that control this country and the Republican Party. The criminals that are in charge of this country now will simply not allow their bastardized version of the Republican Party to loose control. It wouldn't be totally unreasonable to say that their very lives depend on maintaining control.

I WISH we could just ITMFA right now, TODAY. God knows they deserve it & that's an understatement. I'm not ready to give up, but I agree that the one thing they DO NOT WANT is to lose control. They've got pretty much all the reins in their grimy little hands & I think they'll do ANYTHING to keep their grip on power.

Soul Rebel
said on 8/27/2006 @ 8:48 pm PT...
It's not about whether it can happen with a Republican congress, it's about the momentum towards impeachment. If the movement towards impeachment enters a state of dormancy between now and November, I do not have the confidence that it will be revived effectively. It is best to keep pushing forward, making the legal arguments, raising our voices, etc. And this is not mutually exclusive with working towards a Democratic Congress, I don't see that logic. Both can happen at the same time.

Truth Seeker, I don't think impeachment is possible in a Republican Congress. I will do all I can to help bring about a Congress that will take up impeachment. (That includes trying to elect the right Democrats.) I believe Soul Rebel is right in that the momentum toward impeachment has to increase. I believe there is a possiblity that without the momentum, a Democratic congress will slide back into "let's not rock the boat too much." I think it would be a terrible mistake because in the face of such blatant constitutional crimes as the current administration is perpetrating, the Constitution has to be asserted or it will lose its force and authority and we will be in a "brave new world" no longer anchored by the great document.
We, as citizens, can't take the chance of turning our backs on justice one more time because we're at the end of the line, IMO. We have to pressure a new Congress to do the right and necessary thing and at the same time assert the priority of the Constitution and United States citizenship in serving justice.
One apparently bright spot that can't be ignored is John Conyers, who will, of course, be chairman of the Judiciary Committee (the committee that institutes impeachment proceedings) in a Democratic Congress. But he needs a lot of support from fellow Democrats.

The Republican organizers have not yet decided if there will be a separate event for "members of the public" and for now the location of such an event is secret.

I'm thinking GENOME PROJECT LARGE!
One thing they brought up is hopeful. John Conyers offers a great opportunity to convince people to get out in huge numbers and vote for democrats ONE LAST TIME! Just imagine the excitement it would initiate!
Forget Surviver Island, American Idol, Millionare, and all the rest. Imagine 150 John Deans converging on congress. Let the Republicans and Democrats say it will be bad for the country.

The Washington Post is intentionally misleading you about Bin Laden:
http://www.washingtonpos.../27/AR2006082700687.html
That the administration felt compelled to encourage the Washington Post to publish this story is direct evidence of the blogosphere's influence.
We've been seeing this story repeated countless time right here in these threads.
It was likely as a direct result of those continued efforts that Keith Olbermann featured it as part of his "Worst Person In The world" segment a week ago - which has subsequently led Rove to try to knock the story down now before it gathers more steam.
The fact is that the purported Bin Laden Confession video sited in this article is itself a blatant forgery. The FBI fails to confirm its authenticity.
The Post knows this to be the case, but intentionally used false information to dissuade further investigation into the fact that BIN LADEN WAS NOT INVOLVED IN 9/11.
The Post knows that there is an actual Bin Laden statement that was issued in the aftermath of 9/11 during which Bin Laden stated emphatically that he had nothing to do with 9/11.
The Post is performing Government PsyOps with this story - further evidence of the Administration's complicity in 9/11.
It's not going to work, Karl.
We know.
Have you actually LOOKED at the person in the fake Bin Laden video?
http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/osamatape.html
The FBI declines to confirm its authenticity.

Top Bin Laden Expert: The Tapes are Fakes

As a PhD in Islamic and Arabic Studies, I hate to say this, but I’ll say it anyway. The events of 9/11 had nothing to do with Islam. The war on terror itself is as phony as the latest “Bin Laden tape.”
Compare the nose of the actor in the video tape with that of Bin Laden:
http://www.911blimp.net/vid_fakeOsamaVideo.shtml
This is NOT BIN LADEN.
Repeat this information often.

As for the mediafastclick error, I first encountered it about six months ago when my firewall tagged it and I couldn't even get into Bradblog until I traced it down and allowed it.
Your spysweeper may have recently downloaded an updated blacklist and is now signaling on it.
It is an internet advertising accessory which is seen as spyware, but its harmless - tracks which ads you click on. Many websites with ads will have it.
Its main drawback is that it uses some resources while running and can slow down dialup connections when its reporting and downloading.

#47 - Truth Seeker - "Give John Conyers a gavel and the investigations will start. He is not waiting for us to push.
That's probably true, and I am very grateful for it. For the most part, Democrats (including Conyers) are avoiding the "I" word though or even denying the necessity for impeachment. (Although, in Conyers case, it is pretty clear that impeachment is the logical end in his chain of reasoning.) I continue to believe that we will find many Dems who say, "Let's put the past behind us and try to work together." An admirable sentiment at some times, but now is not the time.
That's no way to build momentum. I think citizens have a major role to play, making impeachment an issue that can't be avoided. We shouldn't put all the burden on Mr. Conyer's shoulders! (Or assume that a Democratic Congress will make it easy for him.)
Personally, I feel so strongly that impeachment is necessary that I believe it is my responsibility as a citizen to demand it - up to and beyond the elections.
Nevertheless, it's only about two months until the crucial November election and we have a lot of work to do in regard to candidates and the election itself. I'm in complete agreement with you there.
