The news straight from God's Mouth (a.k.a. Pat Robertson) ... or so his donors believe.
How can these types pull such a following?
I think the answer is undisiplined minds ... minds that have been brainwashed to not think critically.

I think it is obvious that the elderly man is no longer in charge of his faculties. The compassionate thing to do? Take him off the air. To allow him to go on like this in public is both sad and dangerous.

One cannot give away the land of Israel without dire consequences. Pat Robertson may be right that God may be punishing Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon for "dividing God's land." The Holy Bible shows God has punished people more severely for less. I have yet to see any evidence that Pat Robertson is wrong only those attacking him for who he is. Besides Mr. Robertson said 'may', he did not make an emphatic statement that God is punishing Ariel Sharon for "dividing God's land".
SAY THIS PRAYER: Dear Jesus, I am a sinner and am headed to eternal hell because of my sins. I believe you died on the cross to take away my sins and to take me to heaven. Jesus, I ask you now to come into my heart and take away my sins and give me eternal life. http://www.ArmyofGod.com

I'm a left fringe kook and I don't support Isreal. For that matter I don't support my president either. I support good moral people like Rep. Conyers. Of course Pat Robertson is wrong here, if God were punishing evildoers he'd have started with the Project for a New American Century and their puppet GW.

I think Sharon's problem has more to do with his morbid obesity. Religion is nonsense. Paul, whether you support Israel or not, would you really believe that ones medical condition is based on or related to ones actions effecting policy, itself a collaborative social-contract agreed to by most people in the world, that modifies artificially man-made borders in a specific geographical location on earth?

Remember when Robertson said to "take out" Hugo Chavez? Well, Chavez is supplying Massachusetts poor people with LIHEAP heating oil at a 40% discount, because our Republican federal government cut help for the poor for the tax cuts for the rich.
Hugo Chavez
I don't recall seeing this in the controlled American mainstream media, who are in lockstep with the Bush administration in portraying Hugo Chavez as a bad guy.

Is it possible that the stress of Sharon's political corruption scandal has complicated his bad health?
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reports that the investigation into the Ariel Sharon corruption scandal intensified the evening prior to his hospitalization.
Sharon has been accused of taking bribes and breaking campaign finance laws. Investigators seized computer equipment and other items from a prominent South Africa contributor to Sharon's campaign.

Mr Sharon has a body type ( and perhaps family history) that predisposes him to this kind of ailment. Many people have the same problem. He is receiving treatment and I pray for his recovery. Mr Robertson is showing the early signs of dementia. Parading him on stage for people to ridicule and laugh at is inhuman.

Robertson and his ilk pull in a good 40% of US voters, those who classify themselves as "born again evangelicals". They're the ones who collude with the zionist lobby to send almost half of the US foreign aid budget to that outlaw state of Israel. They're the ones who have made the world a dangerous place for the US.
Some dirt of Sharon. Seems he had two women going at the same time, his wife and her sisiter. The wife found out about it, became despondent, and apparently killed herself. The sister, who was already conveniently living in the house, married Sharon. Then, somewhere along the way, his firstborn son was shot playing with guns that Sharon had given him.
Overeating is a way to blot out guilt, of which the Btucher of Beirut and more than his share. Sharon ate himself to death.

How about we try to govern based on facts and show genuine caring for ALL human beings instead of following ancient texts that contradict themselves in places and make people who don't want to evolve want to kill each other because THEIR brand of religion is (in their minds) the best.
I am personally tired of politicians and others basing their opinions on information that is NOT BACKED UP BY FACTS! Save it for the church.
Let the rest of us run the world with the help of our minds, knowledge, experience, compassion etc.
It's as if some people aren't worried about the environment being destroyed because they think the rapture will happen, and they'll be whisked away to heaven because they are (in their minds) good moral Christians. Yea right.
You can't buy your way in!

The tin-foil grapevine is reporting that Sharon may be dead:JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, 77, the most powerful Israeli leader in 50 years, has died, Middle East Newsline reported.
However subsequent wire reports said Sharon showed "significant improvement" after five hours of emergency brain surgery Friday.
The confusion was exacerbated by the timing of the reports which came at the onset of the Jewish Sabbath, at sundown on Friday, when traditionally arrangements for the dead and burials are delayed until Saturday night.
Sharon was declared dead by physicians at Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital before 1 p.m. Israeli time [6 a.m. EST], the report stated. Authorities had already been notified of the death, and a government announcement was expected to be issued over the next hour, it continued.
However Reuters reported Sharon underwent emergency surgery to stem fresh bleeding in his brain. "During the surgery the cranial pressure was released and some of the blood clots that remained from the previous surgery were drained," Dr. Shlomo Mor-Yosef, director of Jerusalem's Hadassah hospital, told reporters.

Jo #10 --- If Pat Robertson is showing early signs of dementia, so are many others of his narrow persuasion. Through the years, I've heard a number of remarks every bit as strange from "evangelical Christians" of my acquaintance --- from the innocuously silly --- "God made my husband's ex-wife look the other way so that she didn't see me - we don't get along." - to the distasteful and sick --"He got cancer because his wife associated with Palestinians." [in a humanitarian effort.]
I believe Christians should be militant against the perversion of Christian ideals into childish, smug, and rancid self-centeredness and to the reduction of the glory of God into an irritated little vindictiveness. It would be, I would think, incredibly sad for a true Christian to see what is being done in Christ's name and to the religion itself. It would be a time for militancy in the name of Christ's words.
For what it is worth from an admirer of Christ, and fellow seeker and hypocrite-fighter.

By the time I reached high school I had become very disillusioned with the church I attended. It was so hypocritical. They would preach one thing, but if you looked at the peoples actions etc. it was the opposite.
I explored other churches and even other faiths, but found none that appealed to me.
While I currently attend a christian faith church, it is for my children's understanding that I go. This congregation seems to be pretty well rooted in reality.
Personaly, when I feel the need to communicate with God or understand him, I go sit on a mountain top or look at pictures of the universe from the Hubble Telescope.

Arry,
If I had a geriatric patient present with these characteristics and making these kind of statements:
"... Robertson has made controversial statements. Not long ago, Robertson was in the news for suggesting that the US should assassinate Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.
In November, Robertson said that Dover Pennsylvania should not expect help from God when disaster strikes their city. The voters of Dover had rejected teaching "intelligent design" in public schools."
I would send them over to psych for an evaluation.
I don't hang around with Christians who think God is micro-managing their lives, so actually I don't have experience with what people who follow Robertson might be thinking. I have to agree, I am flabbergasted that this Taliban type of Christianity is being presented as "normal". Time was that I didn't talk a lot about my faith because I liked to keep my relationship with God personal. Now I don't talk about my faith for fear someone will think I am one of "those kind" of Christians. Pat Robertson makes all Christians look bad. I hope and pray he seeks professional help.

God Denies Links to Pat Robertson
God denied having any links to conservative Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson yesterday after He received reports that Mr. Robertson told residents of Dover, P.A., that they had rejected God by voting their school board out of office for supporting "intelligent design" and warned them of His wrath. Sources close to the Higher Being say that He is "tired" of Mr. Robertson and wants him to stop using His name...
http://swiftreport.blogs...god%5Fdenies%5Flink.html
Also from political humor:
The 10 Stupidest Things Pat Robertson Ever Said
10) "Over 100 years, I think the gradual erosion of the consensus that’s held our country together is probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings." –Pat Robertson, on the dangers of judicial activism
9) "Lord, give us righteous judges who will not try to legislate and dominate this society. Take control, Lord! We ask for additional vacancies on the court." –Pat Robertson
8) "Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again.
It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history." –Pat Robertson
7) "I would warn Orlando that you're right in the way of some serious hurricanes, and I don't think I'd be waving those flags in God's face if I were you, This is not a message of hate --- this is a message of redemption. But a condition like this will bring about the destruction of your nation. It'll bring about terrorist bombs; it'll bring earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor." –Pat Robertson, on "gay days" at Disneyworld
6) "(T)he feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians." –Pat Robertson
5) "I know this is painful for the ladies to hear, but if you get married, you have accepted the headship of a man, your husband. Christ is the head of the household and the husband is the head of the wife, and that's the way it is, period." –Pat Robertson
4) "I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected him from your city. And don't wonder why he hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for his help because he might not be there." --Pat Robertson, after the city of Dover, Pennsylvania voted to boot the current school board, which instituted an intelligent design policy that led to a federal trial
3) "God considers this land to be his. You read the Bible and he says 'This is my land,' and for any prime minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says, 'No, this is mine.' ... He was dividing God's land. And I would say, 'Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the E.U., the United Nations, or the United States of America.' God says, 'This land belongs to me. You better leave it alone.'" --Pat Robertson, on why Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered a massive stroke
2) "Maybe we need a very small nuke thrown off on Foggy Bottom to shake things up" –Pat Robertson, on nuking the State Department
1) "You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with." –Pat Robertson, calling for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
Bonus Stupid Quote:
"Wait a minute, I didn't say 'assassination.' I said our special forces should 'take him out,' and 'take him out' can be a number of things, including kidnapping." –Pat Robertson, clarifying his call to assassinate Hugo Chavez
Extra Bonus Stupid Quote:
"Is it right to call for assassination? No, and I apologize for that statement. I spoke in frustration that we should accommodate the man who thinks the U.S. is out to kill him." –Pat Robertson

You idiots rush to make a wildly in accurate claim and then push that as "TRUTH". If you spent as much effort on making things better instead of worse the whole world would be a better place.
Pat Robertson is correct from a Biblical standpoint. That is the point Pat was trying to make.and I don't think he should apologize for that statement since it is based upon biblical interpretations.

Ralph, #39, right back atcha, babe. seems like you're rushing in here with the wild assumption that somebody here thinks Robertson claimed Sharon was (definitively) being punished.
the "maybe" part is understood in these comments, IMHO. the full quote is "It may be that God is punishing Ariel Sharon"; plus, "maybe" is clearly stated in the post itself. so chill.
the difference is merely one of semantics, not inaccuracy. the exclusion of the words "It may be that..." doesn't substantively change the overall import of his astonishingly presumptive statement, or alter the shock value that this purported "man of faith" consistently beats up on other people from his bully pulpit.
of course he has the right to promote his interpretation of events as he understands them, but the veiled threat inherent in his statement is beyond ridiculous; it's the televangelist equivalent of "my daddy is bigger than your daddy", or "oooh you're gonna be in trouble when daddy gets home". seems like he went off the deep end awhile ago, and it's curious that that the Evangelical Christian folks do not more heartily, and publicly, repudiate his statements forthwith.

I think I have a little crazy in my ear because if I didn't know any better I'd say someone is actually defending Pat Robertson's off the deep end, fell out of the loopy tree and hit every branch on the way down, jackass remarks. If Pat Robertson truly cared about religion and other people he would know that in the christian bible it promotes diversity and love towards your fellow men (or women who by the way ARE equal despite what you may think) regardless whether they have sinned or not. It's obvious that he has no interest in being a messenger of God but is rather a fearmonger and purveyor of of hate and malice, not to mention that he gets to pull in a sweet paycheck every week because his puppets keep sending it in. I find him disgusting in every meaning of the word and I think that the majority of people know it including evangelical christians who have not succumb to his cultism.
