Media Matters, a non-profit progressive-leaning media watchdog organization, has launched a campaign today on their website calling on CNN to stop giving Republican author and talking head Ann Coulter airtime on the cable network.
Citing 10 appearances on CNN since early 2004, the group, founded by one-time Conservative author turned Progressive David Brock, is asking why the cable news channel continues to host her on the air, giving her a continuing international outlet to spread her threatening hate speech, irresponsible smears, character assassinations and otherwise wholly incorrect information.
Media Matters has tracked false and misleading statements by media personalities such as Coulter, Bill O’Reilly and scores of others, along with news outlets such as all three broadcast networks, all three cable news channels along with dozens of other mainstream newspapers, organizations and journalists.
On their webpage calling for the discontinuation of Coulter as a guest on CNN, Media Matters cites several hateful quotes from the acid-tongued blonde such as her question pondering if it would be better “to impeach or assassinate” Bill Clinton and expressing her “only regret” that Oklahoma City bomber Timother McVeigh “did not go to the New York Times building.”
On last Friday’s edition of Lou Dobbs Tonight on CNN, Coulter charged that Democrats are “gutless traitors” and “long to see U.S. troops shot.”
In 1997 Coulter was fired by MSNBC for comments she made on air, according to Media Matters’ report. She continues to be a regular guest on the Fox “News” Channel.

Last night Coulter seemed to have sunk to a new low by posting a personal email address and phone number along with a personal email on her website which was sent to her by BRAD BLOG Guest Blogger, author and actress Lydia Cornell. The astounding lapse in both netiquette and decency was in apparent retaliation for an article Cornell wrote here about her attempts to get more information on a speech Coulter recently gave in Florida calling for the repression of speech by Democrats. The entire shameful incident, in which Coulter wrote that “Death is sexier than Lydia Cornell” is reported in this previous BRAD BLOG item.
The liberals, who are the self appointed advocates of free speech, are trying to silence free speech.

See, when a "news" orginization lets people come and spew "hate speach" and "lies", that makes that organization look like a bunch of idiots (kind of like all those right-wingers). People are calling on CNN to "do the right thing" and stop "lying" and "preaching hate" through Ann. That’s NOT the same thing as "removing her freedom of speach".. see, she can still spew her hate, just not on a publicly sanctions forum (if CNN bumps her). That is, no one is removing her right to free speach, they are telling her "your lies and ignorance have no place here".. that’s totally different… not that I’d suspect a wing-nut would see that (or ever admit it if they did).
I can’t immagine anyone actually "listening" to this psycho bitch.. But, we know some people do.. All we can do is hope that Karma -does- exist and people like her, trying to shit on the world for their own personal gain, suffer long and hard at the hands of fate.. And, anyone following them will end up in the same boat.. Course, that’s no substitute for us reasonable people protecting ourselves should those wack-jobs come calling (which is kind of what they are trying to do).
Anyone else find it bothersome that the corperate owned media is content to lie to the masses to try and keep a foot-hold on their pocket books? Well.. of course all us smart folks are worried.. it’s the folks like Medium [head is]Right[up his ass] that don’t seem to understand how bad the entire world will be if this kind of crap continues.. Oh well, those are the ones that will be executed first during the lawlessness of the revolution.. Once they are all gone, we’ll be able to reinstill law and order and Democracy.

I don’t think censorship is the answer. I’d prefer ridicule, to the extent we should pay attention to Ann Coulter in the first place.
Trying to force her off the air will make a martyr out of her, a la "Don’t liberals believe in freedom of speech?" She’s a world-class hater, true…but the phrase "hate speech" is in the eye of the beholder (usually the person being hated).
Just keep exposing her lies and making fun of her…if you have to talk about her at all.

"Mainstream" Republicans may publicly distance themselves from the likes of Coulter, but Ann says in public what they say at home in bed to their wives, or around the dinner table with their cronies (I say cronies because no Republican has real friends.) She rips the mask off the "kindler gentler nation" and "compassionate conservatism" and all the other hypocritical bilge that emanates from the oleagineous likes of Ken Mehlman and Scottie McLellan.

Tyrone. Anger does not necessarily equal hate. Folks have a right to be angry, offended, and hateful if they so choose. I don’t know why you would target the gay community for anger. I find it amusing and ironic that a self-described "media watchdog" group chooses as its cause celeb to push for a media outlet to exercise a form of self-censorship by dropping Ann Coulter from further appearances. Methinks the liberals doth protest too much.

But do they have the right to be ignorant as well? Yes!!! As far as you saying that I was targeting the gay community, NO I’m not! It was just the website seem to cater to the gay community with the very homosexual ads that were on this site. If I was looking at a website that had advertisements for the bible than I would consider that to be a religious website, just kind of makes sense. There was no targeting meant on my end, however you seem to be doing the same thing that you are accusing me of with no idea that you are doing so, does not make any sense to me.
