Reports from eye-witnesses are now emerging on the net here, here and here…that a “Camp Casey” Peace Rally in NYC was broken up earlier today by police just as Cindy Sheehan was beginning to speak. Unclear whether she was arrested or not at this time…

The Village Voice now has the full story described as “City’s Finest pulls move even Bush wouldn’t have tried.”
The rally in NYC was “one of 200 hundred in 28 states over 21 days,” according to Reuters. Sheehan is working her way with other anti-war activists towards Washington, D.C. where a massive anti-war rally is scheduled to be held this weekend in front of the White House and on the mall.
The site of her original stand in Crawford, Texas, where she requested a meeting with George W. Bush to inquire about the “noble cause” he says that her son Casey died for in Iraq, was recently plundered and all remaining memorial crosses — and Casey Sheehan’s boots, which sat next to his cross — were stolen in the middle of the night.
UPDATE 9/20/05: AP covers to the story to report that NYC police stopped Sheehan’s speech and arrested the organizer of the event on the charge of “using a loudspeaker without a permit.” Yup.

This is a great example of "freedom of speech" in America. How absolute is it?
If the Establishment doesn’t want you to speak they ignore your request for a permit or ‘usher’ you off the streets if you speak without one.

What a crock, why wait for Cindy to start speaking befor making a move? She was late, cops could have done their thing with Zool even befor Cindy got there.
They were waiting for her, they wanted her.
So what’s the status? Was Cindy arrested? Where is she now?
I have this creepy feeling they’re going to pull something to try and take her to jail either at or before this weekend’s rally.
To everyone going – y’all PLEASE be careful!!! I just can’t see Karl Rove letting this rally go off without a hitch. What I’m worried about is "plants" to start violence, to give them a reason to arrest a bunch of people, and getting some people hurt. Call me paranoid, I don’t trust these people as far as I can throw them.
Everyone remember, just like at the RNC earlier this year – be prepared to be arrested (they don’t need a reason anymore). Before you go to the rally, write your attorney’s name on the inside of your arm with indelible ink.

Sheehan’s Threats and Kerry’s Frets
The fur was flying at a Brooklyn church on Sunday, as leftist and anti-war, anti-Bush and anti-everyone-who-doesn’t-pay-her-homage Cindy Sheehan blasted Sen. Hillary Clinton. As she did with President Bush, Sheehan is demanding a meeting with Clinton. She said Sen. Clinton “knows the [Iraq] is a lie” and then accused her of placing her political ambitions ahead of expressing opposition to the war and that she is waiting for the best “political moment” to say it. Then Sheehan threw down the gauntlet to Clinton when she threatened: “You say it or you’re losing your job!” Reports are that that the liberal church assembly loved it! (Sher Zieve of Mensnewsdaily)

They were acquitted a year ago on a minor charge of protesting at a recruiting office. The feds now have them up on conspiracy charges, the first federal charge of this type since the Vietnam War.
