Saw Bush on TV at 6:00.
Puked my coffe across the room when he said that old mantra "It's hard work - we're working hard"
Reporter said he wouldn't be setting foot on the ground amidst the refugees.
No kidding, they'd probably tear his ass off!

Hi Pogue and Joe,
Why do you wish someone to die??? So they voted for bush........ It was a mistake and I think that they realize this was a mistake..... In fact... they may have voted to Kerry but because of the election fraud and manipulation no one will ever really know... thier vote may have registered for bush...... It shoud not matter how a person voted for given the facts and information that the "said" person had at the time of his or her voting.... We were lied to...... and many Americans belived what they were told.... I will not apologize about this message because I find someone saying that someone else should "die" because of what they believe and trusted in turned out to be false.... is totally wrong!!!!!!!!! I hope that this blog is not turning out to be only extremists...... because extremism to the left or the right is wrong.....

Bluebear - I'm beyond puking at Bush now.
This madness cannot go on.
An entire American city has been destroyed, the home for many of our fellow Americans, a city that is in some ways our greatest international symbol, and there are a thousand ways that this is Bush's fault. And there are a thousand excuses. Bush and his supporters are not, it seems, even above blaming the victims.
I'm way, way beyond puking. I've never in my life been so angry. And I don't think I should be alone in this. I cannot tell my fellow citizens what to feel. They have to make their own choices. But I refuse to accept any more excuses.
I hope with all my heart that we citizens will now speak with one voice and demand changed leadership. And I don't mean Cheney or Rice or Frist, or Delay, either. Our new leaders don't have to be Dems. I can't honestly think of any Dems I particularly trust at this point. But they have to be from outside the cabal.
It's still our Democracy. If we want it to be.
I'm not talking about coups, revolutions or violence in any form. I'm talking about the people letting their will be known. I'm talking about the voice of the people.
If this unspeakable blunder/tragedy doesn't wake the slumbering giant, what in God's name will?

Hmm,
PO In Germany has presented a 3rd interpretation. I thought the reference was that if they were Bush supporters they should be saved, the rest should be left.
PO has viewed it from the opposite. I guess I figured a progresive or liberal wouldn't expound such a view. (Not refering to PO, but rather the #2 poster.)
Still nauseating if not more so!

Not to worry ... I don't see this blog changing much at all... Brad has always set the policy that guest bloggers are welcome to say what they think, regardless of whether Brad agrees with them or not ... and I support that policy --- heck, that policy is one of the great things about this blog in my opinion --- and for this reason I think the content of this blog will continue to represent a wide range of opinions ... you may not agree with everything you read here but then again that's how we get interesting discussions going ... we don't delete comments and we don't muzzle the guest bloggers and we don't plan to do so ... hope that clears up your questions... but, as usual, ask 'em if you got 'em!!

As I said in another post in another blog entry, I've completely had it.
That includes at the end of my patience with my Dem representatives, and I've let them know that.
I've also had it with LIBERALS, PROGRESSIVES, LEFT-WINGERS, WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT TO CALL YOURSELVES, who can't find it in your heart to care about those in poverty.
I'm watching people like me die, and it is exacerbating the fears I've had for my own damned life for more than 5 years now. I simply can't tolerate hearing people who supposedly are on "my side" saying such ugly things as #2, and if this is going to be tolerated, then I can't stay here.
It's time to take a fucking stand and make up your mind. If you are going to allow bad-mouthing poor, dying people, then fuck you all.
Y'know, it's really tearing me up that it comes to this. I spoke to this the other day, and here it is again. Brad, this is for you --- this isn't "freedom of speech" --- this is HATE SPEECH.

The statements by earlier mentioned posts is nauseating(refering to Pogue and Joes's previous postings) !!! In fact, it is almost unbelievable!!! What I am trying to say is that it does not matter which party (republican or democrat or independent) someone belongs to.... Each person has a sense of what is right and what is wrong.... This politics game is only played within the people who have an investement in this game..... not by the majority of people who only want to live and be happy and that thier children are happy..... I know that I am writing very broken and confused thoughts right now.... but I am very pissed off at the moment.... but when I hear that an "American "wants another "American" dead then I have to write something.....

You will really want to throw up. My husband cannot stand the sound of Bush's voice...will leave the room if I have it on.
Everything was sugar coated that was said and visibly absent was the Mayor of New Orleans, Ralph Nagin who this morning blasted the Federal Government who were still absent. Only the balless allowed at this meeting.
Coast Guard was really proud they had rescued 1700, agree, however, how hard would it be to drop or truck in water and food the the people at the convention center and where else they are going without.
How would you like to wager Bush doesn't set foot even within 1 mile of the Convention center and speak with those people. Must be ALL the tv coverage are lying...things are just a picnic on the ground.

This is too sad for words, all.
I see the destructions of what was - until as recently as last Friday (one week ago today) - one of the finest cities in America... and it simply is too much to bear.
It saddens and depresses me. I am too overcome with grief to even pay attention to what our "President" is saying on the TV.
I take hope and comfort from the words of the Congressional Black Caucus this morning.
I hope a real person can take charge... a real American like Sen. Obama or Rep. Conyers.
God forbid we should have to rely on the Bushies.

Texaslady,
Thanks for the kind words.
Yes, I am relieved that aid and order is now coming to the city. It still makes me sad though because I don't know why it took nearly a week to get this going.
I hope the General is as good as people are saying. New Orleans needs it.
The righties are angry because of the vitriol, the venom everywhere they (and we) turn. It began with them in the 80's (Rush Limbaugh began spewing his anger on the airwaves in 1988).
After so much anger, comes division. The noxious attitudes in DC are such that, if you don't agree with me 100%, then the H**L with you. It happens on both the right and the left.
Even on this board... I see name calling on both sides. It makes me very disappointed.
I am here as a reconciler. I want peace above all. But not the peace that comes from "getting behind us" (as Sen. Lott once said after 9/11). I want the peace that comes from settlements and negotiations. Neither side getting what they want; both sides getting what they can live with.
All my life, Texaslady, I've seen nothing but hostility in Washington DC (as well as in Olympia here in Washington State). But, never have I seen it anywhere nearly this bad.
Since the 2000 elections, it has been affecting me, personally, and my family. The Misery Index has gone straight up since the summer of 2000. I don't care who is in power at any given time. I just want that Misery Index to come down. So far, there is no indication that it will moderate.
A Democracy requires all points of view to be considered. But the neocons have deprived us of our voice.
My own personal beliefs are fairly close to the consensus of this board (generally progressive/liberal but with a bent for moderation). However, I will be willing to compromise if the neocons start to do so.
Or at least if they start to listen to our pleas for negotiation.

A study was conducted before the last election, where one side was confronted with documented facts of lies, misleads and corruption. The people continued to deny the wrong even when confronted with documented proof. So strong were their feelings that a leader would not lie to them.
Can it be a case for standing with the bully, so he doesn't bully me? I think this terrible tragedy will show that the bully will let you sink. I hope more eyes will be opened such as our friend's. He is so angry that the president would let the citizens down. Five days before help comes...disgraceful.

We are still being told, "it takes time to rally troops" but Nana, they knew this was coming on Saturday. So, 3 days later and no one takes charge?
I guess I get so aggravated when I hear, well, you can't start placing blame, just got to move on.
Well, the main problem was lack of communication, well guess what on 9/11 the loss of so many fire and policemen was attributed to lack of communication. So maybe its time for blame or accountability.

Bush Tours Katrina Damage Amid Criticism
From the article:
``It's as if the entire Gulf Coast were obliterated by the worst kind of weapon you can imagine''
IT IS OBLITERATED! Are weapons your only way of reconizing damage??
In Biloxi, Miss., Bush encountered two weeping women on a street where a house had collapsed and towering trees were stripped of their branches. ``My son needs clothes,'' said Bronwynne Bassier, 23, clutching several trash bags. ``I don't have anything.''
``I understand that,'' Bush said. He kissed both women on their heads and walked with his arms around them, telling them they could get help from the Salvation Army. ``Hang in there,'' he said.
When have you ever wanted for anything? How can you possibly understand????
Asked later how the richest country on Earth could not meet the needs of its people, Bush said ``I am satisfied with the response. I am not satisfied with all the results.''
Huh???? Say what?
The president rejected suggestions that the United States could not afford both the war in Iraq and the hurricane cleanup. ``We'll do both. We've got plenty of resources to do both,'
Money from where? Billions of dollars in the hole already!
``The people of this country expect there to be law and order, and we're going to work hard to get it,''
``A lot of people are working hard to help those who've been affected. The results are not acceptable,'' he said. ``I'm heading down there right now.''
There he goes - working hard again - where the hell were you Monday?????
Then we get this clincher from no other than Newt Gingrich:
``I think it puts into question all of the Homeland Security and Northern Command planning for the last
four years, because if we can't respond faster than this to an event we saw coming across the Gulf for days, then why do we think we're prepared to respond to a nuclear or biological attack?''
The truth comes out!
And the closer:
"his visit was aimed at tamping down the ever-angrier criticism that he has engineered a too-little, too-late response."
Well Duh!!!?!?!

I'm not sure whether Superwoman is still reading us but I hope she is ... and I'm sure others will be interested in a reply to her comment #16 from the official BRAD BLOG concierge....
I respond in particular to the passage that runs:
If you are going to allow bad-mouthing poor, dying people, then fuck you all.
Y'know, it's really tearing me up that it comes to this. I spoke to this the other day, and here it is again. Brad, this is for you --- this isn't "freedom of speech" --- this is HATE SPEECH.
I don't owe it to you, Brad, or anyone else to keep taking that kind of shit.
This is NOT MY REVOLUTION.
As I understand it, "Freedom of Speech" is absolute; it means that anybody can say whatever they want to say. Anybody. Whatever.
"Hate Speech" is a label used by people who want to narrow the terms of the discussion in one way or another, by banning what they perceive as "hate speech". This may sound like a good idea but there are a couple of problems with it:
[1] "hate speech" is subjective; what sounds like "hate speech" to you and what sounds like "hate speech" to the next guy may be entirely different. I don't mean to be callous here and I am not defending nor attacking any point of view, I'm just saying: this is the way it is... there is no universal agreement on what constitutes "hate speech"
[2] banning something typically results in an increase of interest in whatever happens to be banned ... it worked wonders for the Sex Pistols and many other things ...and to give you another example ... I have always thought it was unfortunate that positions seen as "extremist" were labelled "hate speech" and banned as such, because I thought it would have been far more effective to prove that they were crazy and discredit them instead of banning them.
[3] Banning is the enemy of free speech and the slippery slope is everywhere. Once you start banning your former free speech is gone. And worse, the hate speech still travels over other channels, but you never see it in your restricted-speech [formerly free-speech] zone and so you never refute it. And that means that the people who encounter it do so "underground" where they never see the alternative[s] ... and ... in a nutshell ... it's my belief that whenever you infringe on the limits of discourse you inevitably weaken it, reduce its value in the long term. And even though I HEAR YOU LOUD AND CLEAR on many of the points you have raised in the last few days, I'm not in a position to ban any poster or any point of view. That's not my job, nor is it Brad's intention. My job is to keep the discussion going! And if you don't like the tone or subject matter of the discussion lately then your job is to raise the level of discourse around here.
In an entirely free "marketplace of ideas" the only way to counter ideas that you find offensive, fraudulent, dangerous, or hateful, is not to ban them but to compete against them, with better ideas... to show how they are offensive or fraudulent or dangerous or hateful, and to offer better alternatives.
So ... if you don't like some of what you've been reading here lately, please hang around and change the dynamic.
... or else let's look at it another way: we're not smart enough to determine which posts are going to be seen as "hate speech" by which people ... we rely on our readers to provide some of the smarts ... and we hope that when our readers find posts they find hateful --- whether a comment or a guest blogged item or something they see on TV or whatever --- they will respond by trying to raise the level, not just shouting down or calling names but disagreeing in a logical and/or emotional way, by making a comment that explains how and why you think and/or feel the way you do, and/or puts the situation in a better context and/or offers a better solution... but by "better solution" I mean something / anything other than saying "Hey Brad: you shouldn't let people say that on your blog!"
I've been reading and listening to Brad for a long time now and I think his main interest is in making sure all voices are heard. We don't think BRAD BLOG readers are stupid. We think you will find it quite easy to choose which voices you can agree with, and which you can learn from, and which voices you can safely ignore, and which you must counter-act...
So for those who have been reading The BRAD BLOG lately with chin on chest, thinking "man oh man what a pile of hateful lunatics" ... please hang around and help the other "reasonably sane" readers and commenters counter the "hateful lunacy" ...
and please always remember, Freedom of Speech means you're gonna find all kinds of lunacy, but lunacy only takes over if reasonably sane people sit on their hands and do nothing ... or if they run away in despair!
so ... I apologize for any confusion, I apologize for taking so long to get back to you, I apologize for venturing so widely off the "urgent humanitarian" mark on this thread; yes there are many more important things to talk about, but I wanted to give you a full answer to your question ... and I apologize for the length and I'm sure there are some typos in there that I should apologize for as well, but I am not going to apologize for Brad's policy of allowing everyone to speak freely here, and if that means we are tolerating "hate speech" then so be it. Guilty as charged. Throw in a little bit of "love speech" and help us balance it out, ok?
Look: I don't agree with everything I read here ... but on a good day I do agree with everything I write! And that's the best I can ask for, I think.
I hope this long comment answers everyone's questions on this topic ... but as I keep saying, ask 'em if you've got 'em. And one more thing too: Hang in there guys and gals, it's gonna get better!!
OK NOW: Back on to the urgent humanitarian crisis that is our country. If you have any good ideas about things that people can do to help, or what we should read, or what we should know, just post 'em on the most relevant thread and we'll find 'em ...

#20 TexasLady I think I made myself clear. I'm in NO position to keep taking slams against me and others like me because we are poor. If this was a racist statement, or gay bashing, it wouldn't be allowed. But, as I've said so many times that I'm sick of typing it, liberals don't mind hearing poor folk bashed, and I would think, as a feeling liberal, that you would understand that many of us are close enough to the edge that hearing the hate directed towards us, in a place where we should be able to at least feel safe, is not only not tolerable, but we must save ourselves from attacks.
I don't know why it's so impossible to understand that. Surely you have seen that so many of us are right on the edge. Not all of us are made of steel.
If what you're saying is that I'm not supposed to have boundaries, then there's no room for me. I'm not on this earth for this kind of verbal abuse. I would certainly hope you're not saying that people can't have limits? A little understanding, please.

Brad #27 THanks for removing those posts.
If I'm hearing you correctly, they were only removed because they were posted by the same person, not because they contained slams against a class of people.
What I said stands. I listened closely to your broadcasts from Camp Casey, and know you wouldn't have taken kindly to slams against Cindy. "Am I not a woman?"
People have had it with the spineless Dems, and I've had it with liberals who can't speak up for "the least of these".
As Cindy said, it's time for people to get off the fence.

Well, well well....... thank you winter "patriot" for 'splaining it all to me. Now I definitely know where I stand with you. My, aren't you the one with a big heart.
Yeah, you are your "free speech" will certainly make this planet much nicer, huh? There are people that Cindy just can't reach.
As I said, you made it clear, so goodbye. All you tough ones can tough it out. So long

re #51 Superwoman: I am sorry to tell you this ... but you seem to have no idea where you stand with me. I am challenging you to hang around and make a difference. Clearly you could make a big impact here. In my opinion your impact would be a very positive one. That's where I stand with you. Now where do you stand? Will you help the reasonable people here or will you abandon us to the lunatics?

Added to say winter "patriot"..... y'know, I spent two fucking years trying to get a local group of Kucinich supporters to understand what poverty does to a person. It was the proverbial head-bashing exercise, and I gave up.
Yesterday, one of them said to me, in tears from watching the horror in New Orleans, "I get it. I get it now. I get what you were saying." I'm sorry that you aren't able to "GET IT", "patriot". Some people can't be reached.
You DEMAND that everyone be made of steel, like you are. All that does is eliminate soft-hearted people who can't stand up to hate. Not that it matters to you --- you seem to like a small elite group.
So, judge me all you want. Meanwhile, I'm having a good laugh at your outrage about "compassionate conservatives". They're right there in your mirror. Same/same.
It's called changing the content, but not the process. You're no different than those "compassionate conservatives". And I don't hang around them, and listen to their bullshit, either.
There's a reason liberals are seen as elitists. All this certitude, and inability to listen cuts out all those who don't have a stone constitution.
I hope you grow a heart someday. Given that's unlikely, go to hell.

gawdess, winter "patriot", that is really funny. I should stick around when you went to all lenghths to let me know what hurts me deeply is of no concern to you???
I "stuck it out" with an abuser once, when I was young and stupid, and have scars, broken bones and a kidnapped child to show for it. You want someone with that kind of victim mentality to stick around, look elsewhere, cuz I may be dumb, but I learned *something*.
LIke the "compassionate conservatives", you have no compassion, no support for me....... just lectures.
STUFF IT. Maybe someday you'll have the joy of walking in my shoes, being ground to dust, and THEN wake up and get a heart.

Hey, "patriot" --- didja like my "free speech"??
It added a lot to peace, community, and strenghthening people to rise against the machine, didn't it???
I really wish Cindy and her peace brigade could get through to the rest of you "liberals". It's so hard to get through brick walls.

Not especially.

no, not really. But then it didn't seem like it was intended to do that.
To me it seemed more like a string of low-level cheap-shots against somebody you know nothing about.
But hey that's your prerogative. It's an open forum.

WHATEVER you do or are moved to donate, avoid the MSM's list of agencies like the plague. Which, BTW, include Pat Robertson's own "homegrown" self-enrichment site, "Project Blessings!" Whatever you donate, let it be in kind, up close, and personal.
And THANK YOU, Winter Patriot, for that last post. Joseph Cannon has been seriously maligned. I'm certain that he is distraught at all the wilfull misinterpretation that has been going on - because I'm also certain that he is distraught over the evil being perpetrated in NO. I know I am.
Sometimes reductive musings are essential to revelation of expanding evil. But they are NEVER well-received.

What a generous offer to buy the 5 bus passes (+ travel $) - to get out of, or into NO. I've seen some of your earlier posts, and you are a joy to have here.
From what I've been reading so far, I don't know how to answer your question about how to do that. I'm not even sure if the commercial busses are running...
The things I've read say send cash for supplies, etc. However, you've probably already seen that, and I realize that you have a very specific intent for your donation. I will try to do some googling, and see if I come up with any ideas.
Meanwhile, EVERYONE, please read Rhonda's post again, and offer any good suggestions you have.

To #29 BlueBear:
I agree, prison is where the entire Bush criminal clique belongs and I wanted to add on that note, did anyone catch on CrappyNewsNetwork the interview with "W"'s mom and dad on the Larry King show? (the old drunk Larry King not the middle-aged Republinazi pedophile ring kingpin Larry King that got out of prison in early 2001; two different people). George H.W. and 'Barb' were both dressed in matching denim shirts that looked I swear just like prisoner outfits. It was hilarious and I hope it's foreshadowing things to come.

:) I have made a customized search engine that links only to crisis situation type websites (like relief aide, evacuation planning, crisis management, and others relating to disasters caused by terrorism, natural disasters and man-made war), see http://www.CrisisSearch.com ... This niche portal was made after the Katrina devastation and hopefully it will assist humans in/during the next disaster...
Please add related crisis blogs and websites to the database...
