Hey Brad - can you or John comment on a report in a Pittsburgh, PA. (i think) paper a few weeks ago linked to by John in his DVN - right b4 he went fishing. The report stated that only 10% of the voters in the Ohio primary who had the opportunity to use paper ballots did so. 90% went for the machines. Man if thats true, thats depressing! OH yeah Brad, I know you know but b4 you go on air, its pArry not pErry!

That ain't to say that all Libertarians are bad. They're not all bad. Problem with the LP is a lot of talk and no action.

Didn't get to this in the Green News Report (never enough time)...
GOP claim about Chinese oil drilling off Cuba is untrue
and
Cheney Acknowledges He Lied About China Drilling ‘60 Miles Off The Coast Of Florida’:
On Wednesday, Vice President Dick Cheney gave a speech to the Chamber of Commerce in which he claimed that China, in cooperation with the Cuban government, is drilling for oil “60 miles off the coast of Florida.” .....
It’s a talking point favored by the right wing. Cheney was quoting conservative columnist George Will, who wrote on June 6 that China is drilling “60 miles off Florida,” “closer to South Florida than U.S. companies are.” The same day Cheney spoke, Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO) wrote that Castro was allowing drilling “45 miles from the Florida keys.” Rep. George Radanovich (R-CA) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) have also raised the specter....
...After his claim was thoroughly debunked in the press, Cheney acknowledged that he had, in fact, lied in his speech, though his statement today offered no apology and issued only a half-hearted backtrack of his original claim:
It is our understanding that, although Cuba has leased out exploration blocks 60 miles off the coast of southern Florida, which is closer than American firms are allowed to operate in that area, no Chinese firm is drilling there.
Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL) decried claims of “some fabricated Cuba/China connection,” saying they have “no merit.”
Feel free to email George Will and the offices of the aforementioned representatives to ensure they are aware of the latest FACTS.

I've been stewing about you clearing that studio for a half an hour! How the heck does one disperse a group with so much to say...?
I'm going to go soak my head in a bucket of gin now... or something.

Really enjoyed your stepping in for Peter B. Read the blog a lot, and it was a joy to listen to you.
When you speak of Tennessee using paper ballots, how are these ballots then counted? By hand, or by electric scanner?
Thnx for all the great work!

Hey Brad,
Democrat Senator Conrad has admitted taking special favors from Countrywide while minorities across the country are losing their homes. Where is the story?

M -
My understanding is that they will be counted by op-scan, unfortunately, for the moment. But a path is built one stone at a time.
They will also have routine post-election audits built into the law as well, so that may help, but I'm not sure what the audit protocol is that they will be using. Hope to look into that.
Beyond that, thanks much for the kind words. Glad I didn't disappoint too many of the regular PBC stalwarts!

Smithy asked:

Right here, all over the MSM. If you need any further help using Google, let me know.
If I have anything that I can add to the story, I will let you know. But until then, as with Sen. Ted Stevens of AK, and the recent Abramoff/George W. Bush disclosures, and countless other scandals, when I don't have anything to add to the discussion and/or when my voice isn't needed to add noise to an under-reported issue, I don't cover it.
I'm just one guy. But if you care to donate enough for me to hire a second reporter, I'll be sure to have them check in with you once a week to get your opinion on what you think they should cover!
Until then, you're welcome for the use of my blog. Hope you'll continue to enjoy it! And for free, nonetheless!
