At least Hitler fought in battles before he was installed So I’m not comparing Hitler to that chickenhawk profiteer
Gee, I can’t understand why they would make such an unfair comparison….
"…The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country…"
–Hermann Goering, while awaiting the Nuremberg trials
There is an old lawyer saying "if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and swims like a duck, it is a duck".
We can add "if it walks like a fascist, talks like a fascist, and eschews law like a fascist, it is a fascist".
I agree with this assertion, but I think its an issue that needs to be put to rest for the time being. This is an election year, and how are the dems going to appeal to the moderate voters of America by calling Bush a fascist? There just not going to buy it, in my opinion.
The guy who yelled & was removed from the Senate spy hearings…didn’t he yell out something about fascists? Brave guy. Wonder where he is now…
Also…the cameras got a nice clear shot of a guy in the audience wearing a shirt that said UPHOLD THE LAW..ARREST BUSH. Wonder why they didn’t haul HIM out?
Swaggs,
"…how are the dems going to appeal to the moderate voters of America by calling Bush a fascist?…"
I get your point, but I think it’s time we called a spade a spade. I don’t think the way to respond to encroaching fascism is with kid gloves. ENORMOUS harm has been done. People get it.
Joan, I just don’t think the moderates who are really conservative will see this, or more importantly, will want to think that it could happen here in America. I just don’t think the dems are going to win that vote if there preaching about the GOP being fascist, at least not yet anyway.
On another subject, If Cheney gets off scott free after what was revealed yesterday, then this nation is finished. Perhaps that is what it will take for people to realize that fascism is real, and my point will be mute.

You may be correct because what we express here is not always the stuff of political campaigns.
No, a lot of our words are too radical for the "middle of the road" or "moderate" voter who watch mostly MSM.
However, our words are clear enough to tug at the dialogue enough to keep it from drifting so far to the wrong side ("right") that the middle is not really the middle any more.
The way to do that is, as you intimated, to remind voters that the fundamental notion of accountability is spurned by the republican party in power.
The people resonate with the notion that they have a duty to hold the government to account, by punishing the party that has the power, for the wrongs done between elections.
By all accounts the people are ready to punish the republicans already. That has come about by criticizing, quite successfully, the president and republican leaders of the rubber stamp congress.
Talk radical on the BLOGS, but talk more moderately in the MSM.
Accountability is the magic word that drives the fascist neoCons out of their wayward minds, and "corruptable" is a better word to use in place of "fascist" to put the concept before the voters.
I guess you’re right: unfortunately alot of people hear the word ‘fascist’ & think ‘leftist kook’.
HOWEVER! I think it can be effective to POLITELY and truthfully point out factual similarities such as certain statements made by this administration bearing disturbing resemblance to statements such as this afore-cited one:
"…The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country…"
–Hermann Goering
It is a simple, honest comparison, really. Obviously, it’s also potentially explosive, but it’s possible to have, I think, non-strident, non-combative conversations with people in which things like this can & should be pointed out, n’est ce pas? Hopefully without an ensuing brawl. I mean it’s not like it’s a CARTOON. :o)
btw,
Personally, I think there are a few points that should be repeated endlessly by the left, but the number one point is ILLEGALITY, as in the wiretap program: the issue being not surveillance, but the fact that they skirted the law to do it.
Accountability is the magic word that drives the fascist neoCons out of their wayward minds, and "corruptable" is a better word to use in place of "fascist" to put the concept before the voters.
Well said Dredd. I’m very hopeful to hear about all the dems vets that are running for congress in 06. Last I heard it was up to 46. That is awesome. I think the war issue is huge and the dems need to attack that front vigorously. And this msconception about the dems being soft on security is a joke. If the Bushies took time to rip themselves away from FAUX newss, they might realize that Bush co has not done squat to protect our ports, or nuclear power plants. I guess wasting billions on Iraq is there idea of protecting America. What a joke.
The way Stephen Harper won the election in Canada was by repeatedly crying corruption in the Liberal government. All the dems have to do is point out the obvious. There is nothing like the FACTS.
Nixon and Stalin all over again….
Get to the battle lines and make war for peace at home.
Doug
Note to all:
Keep up the onslaught on your legislatures to get rid of the voting machines first….
Remember your priorities…
Cheney will be charged with a conspiracy…since he can’t be charged with the original leak.
Doug E.
Re #12
Swaggs has an excellent point:
"…this msconception about the dems being soft on security is a joke…"
EXACTLY.
It needs to be pointed out again & again & again that the US is LESS SAFE because of neo-con failures, LESS SAFE because their policies have swelled the ranks of terrorists, LESS SAFE because they’ve neglected security at home & squandered billions on Iraq, etc etc etc.
If Diebold goes under and we have fair elections, democrats will win. Do you think that’s going to fix our problems? George Carlin says the only choice we have is whether to smoke. Hillary seems to be lined up for next prez. She who is more right wing than her husband who runs around with elder bush , gave us mandatory minimum…3 strikes and you’re out …welfare reform and NAFTA…so the welfare moms could go to work at burger king. Any democrat who is anti war has an untimely death. The real problem is the behind the scenes criminals who run this country. I used to think it was the military…now I think it is corporations.
The new house with dems in the majority will have two years to work before facing the ’08 presidential election.
The newly elected democratic majority need to be very oriented toward fighting corruption and fighting the two-headed imperial presidency.
Even if Hillary were to win, which would not be my first choice, however I would take her hands down to McCain, Jeb Bush, or any neoCon.
In ’08 the senate should be a target, and if the House with a dem majority has hit at corruption in ’07 and ’08 leading up to the election, the senate republicans will be in trouble AS THEY SHOULD.
The greatest wrongs have been done by the republicans in the senate.
Joan, I didn’t hear about that guy in Senate would be please send me the article? My email is Sue4986@aol.com. I think we ALL need to start calling a spade a spade and call these people exactly what they are LYING,MURDERING FASCISTS if the public can’t handle the truth, so be it, they MUST face the facts before Bush’s Gestpo is knocking on their doors! Or before he declares himself a dictator! We need to all start calling a spade a spade!
