Dean Condemns Anti-Semitic DNC Literature at Conyers Hearing

WASHINGTON --- A handful of people at Democratic National Headquarters distributed material critical of Israel during a public forum questioning the Bush administration's Iraq policy, drawing an angry response and charges of anti-Semitism from party chairman Howard Dean on Friday.

"We disavow the anti-Semitic literature, and the Democratic National Committee stands in absolute disagreement with and condemns the allegations," Dean said in a statement posted on the DNC Web site.

Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, the senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, organized the forum on Thursday at the Capitol to publicize and discuss the so-called Downing Street memo.

Durbin 'regrets' Gitmo remarks

Sen. Richard J. Durbin expressed a conditional "regret" yesterday for his remarks linking Guantanano Bay interrogations to Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin and Pol Pot after Vice President Dick Cheney and the American Legion unleashed another day of rebukes of the Senate's No. 2 Democrat.

Mr. Durbin had refused to apologize for his Nazi speech in a Senate debate Thursday. But as the high-ranking Democrat and his party continued to feel a political backlash, Mr. Durbin issued his third --- and most contrite --- statement yesterday.

"I have learned from my statement that historical parallels can be misused and misunderstood," said the Illinois senator. "I sincerely regret if what I said caused anyone to misunderstand my true feelings: our soldiers around the world and their families at home deserve our respect, admiration and total support."

"Senator. Durbin's remarks could very well make him the 'Hanoi Jane' of this conflict," said outraged American Legion National Commander Thomas P. Cadmus.

Dick Cheney and the American Legion. There's a parlay for you. A chronic liar and an organization steeped in nostalgia for past wars. "Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel."

It's a sad situation when those who tell the truth are forced to apologize, while the liars are rewarded.

I would also like to suggest that Jimmo be removed from this site. I do not believe in censoring free speech but he is breaking rules, cheating, lying, and offensive to others and that is not acceptable. He's bringing hate and devisiveness where it's not welcome. I have seen him regularly on other sites using several diffent names and his behavior is equally offensive there as well.

The reporter Smith says he re typed the Downing Street memos that were given him then destroyed the ones he was given.

Interesting.

So we are to believe that only ONE set of these memos were leaked, that he transcribed them 100% accurately, even though he is a known anti war anti Bush anti Blair activist, then destroyed the only known copy of the memos, which are presumably safe in British Government hands yet.

I wonder if his typewriter perhaps accidently hit the wrong keys, perhaps instead of the word "fixed" the real memo says "is mixed". I wonder.

Guess we will never know will we, but one thing is for certain: the reporter is an activist with a MOTIVE to falsify the documents.

So he has a MOTIVE, he has access, and he has a mission. Sounds like Smith is the criminal here.

Worrisome Move To Remove Presidential Term Limit from Constitution

This is very troubling. In recent months two proposals have been introduced to the House of Representatives to amend the Consitution of the United States and repeal the 22nd amendment. The 22nd amendment was put place to limit the number of times a president could be in office to two terms.

The first, HJRES 11 IH, was introduced on January 7, 2003 by Representative Serrano. On February 25, 2003 HJ 25 IH was introduced. These appear to be identical. The latter proposed amendment has 7 sponsors.

It is interesting to note that of the 8 representatives who sponsored the two proposal, 6 are democrats.

Re #16 a responsible journalist may have destroyed the original notes after retyping them to protect the identify of the source. (E.g., there might have been handwritten comments which would have shown who they were from.)

Like Pushcat says in #18, if there were inaccuracies the Blair government would have pointed them out long ago.
