Sent in from a reader, as purportedly published in the Charlotte Observer…
The Senate Judiciary Committee has been unable to extract a yes or no answer from Mr. Mukasey, Bush’s candidate for attorney general, about whether waterboarding does or doesn’t constitute a form of torture. Why not do what the C.I.A. would do to get him to answer the question and that is, waterboard Mr. Mukasey himself so he could find out about it firsthand? Wouldn’t that speed things up?
Yours truly,
Bernie Hargadon

He’s not the only one writing letters….
Great idea of Mr. Hargadon. I wish I had thought of doing that.
A lot of people have been phoning and sending emails too.
Diane “Waterboard” Feinstein’s website is conveniently down, but the local office is only a few blocks from me. Unfortunately it is usually staffed by a young, unpaid intern with instructions to smile, say, “I’ll pass this along to the Senator,” and throw it in the trash.
Waterboard Feinstein (husband has interest in Iraq War), Schumer, & Specter, too! And anyone who voted for Mukasey!
Many Democrats have spoken against this confirmation with Durbin and Leahy being very vocal. I wonder why the Democrats cannot seem to stick together on important issues.
It’s official. Mukasey is out of committee and is on his way to an easy senate confirmation vote.
Weasel-wording aside, and there will be a lot of it, the Democrats now own the U.S. torture of captives as surely as Bush and his regime.
And Feinstein and Schumer were the deciding votes, and Reid has taken to disregarding senator’s holds so by Thanksgiving Day we’ll have an Attorney General who refuses to repudiate torture.
The Zionists are now in control of the US government
As so often happens, Big Dan #4 has taken the words right out of my mouth!
But hey, can I pour the water?
I said the same thing a week ago. If Mukasey claims to not know enough about the procedure to give an opinion one way or the other, a sure-fire way to educate him is for him to undergo waterboarding himself. See how long he lasts before saying it’s torture.
By the way, when it comes to OTHER countries’ nationals waterboarding AMERICANS there seems to be no controversy in the American government, in that it has consistently been prosecuted as torture since at least the war crimes trials of Japanese right after World War II. So if somebody’s born in Osaka and does it then it’s torture, but if somebody’s born in St. Louis and does it… weeeellllll… it might just be “enhanced interrogation”.
America is certainly the land of hypocrisy and what’s also disturbing is that it seems so many are completely unashamed about it.
Lev,
America is certainly the land of hypocrisy and what’s also disturbing is that it seems so many are completely unashamed about it.
Ain’t that the truth!
