i think the Repubs won't go for a real recount --- too risky. exposure of their dirty tricks & tactics, real discovery in the legal sense, depositions... the investigation would (IMHO) likely reveal the extent of the Repug machine corruption in ways that Allen himself probably doesn't even know about (judging by his non-consession speech announcing his sudden conversion into an election integrity proponent).
it's interesting to see how fast the Repug bigwigs have dropped in to disabuse him of the idea of a recount. "For the good of the country" is pure B.S.
i think they also want to try to preserve the effectiveness of the "sore loser" moniker for the future.

Concur,.. George Felix Allen do not yet concede.
Make them count all the votes and prove the total count. Down the road,.. maybe even 2008,... if an election is close they may again try to rig the EVM's to push the close election to the Rethug Party.
These machines can not be trusted to not allow someone to steal/throw/rig/game an election upon whim,.. especially if the election is very close. Make them prove these EVM's worthy to count our votes with a provable/verifiable/audit-able vote count result,.. or toss these EVM's into Boston Harbor,.. we don't want them counting our votes.
2008,.. 2010,.. 2012,... these Republican Fascists will once again attempt to hijack this democracy to their exclusive gain. These Nazis will jump back in the same saddle with the national treasure redirected into their wallets and checkbooks,.. and once again gallop off into the sunset with the funds of taxpayers. Corporatism/cronyism is not dead,.. think John McCain,.. Ruddy Gulliani,.. Bill Frist,.. Jeb bu$$h,.. these jack-boots brown-shirts all have presidential aspirations.
Our vote count must be provable/verifiable or the Nazi/Fascists will circumvent the will of the people,..why give them that opportunity ?
While the coals are hot,.. we ought to put this issue to rest once and for all times. Larceny of the American vote is not permissible in any way,.. shape,.. or form,.. no matter which political party you support or belong.
The BONFIRE of the EVM's is long overdue. Let's rid the election process of these computer vote counting junk-boxes ! These black-box joke-boxes have made enough of a mockery of our democracy,.. enough is enough.

OT: Jennings race in Florida is losing race for congressional seat by less than 400 votes. According to the results, nearly 88K people placed a vote for somebody in the US Senate race, but only 76.5K people placed a vote in the Jennings/Van Buchanan congressional race. (http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/001967.php) Over 11K didn't vote in their congressional election.
This puts it in context:
In the governor race between Charlie Crist and Jim Davis, 87,678 county resident voted.Only 76,549 voted for Jennings or Buchanan. In comparison, about 3,000 more people voted in the Sarasota Public Hospital Board election.
But a similar undervote was not recorded in other counties that voted in the District 13 race.

One #1 priority is justice for the Palestinian people. Unfortunately, I'm not too hopeful that the Democrats will be more fair about that, than the Neoconmen have been. (Not many Palestinian votes in the US.) The shells killing women and children in Gaza are paid for by US taxpayers. Do the majority really want that? The US claims to want democracy everywhere, yet aligns itself against so many elected governments: Palestine, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua. While we do something about the hackable voting machines, let's not forget about the lobbyists and the moneyed corrupters of representative government!

Why wouldn't Allen want a recount, if he's entitled to one by Virginia law? Seeking an answer to that question, I just spent some time looking at the interactive maps on New York Times website. I set them so I could compare Dem vs. Repug, 2004 Presidential vs. 2006 Senate, county by county vote. Truly amazing to see how all over Ohio and Pennsylvania, Repuglicans in county after county lost large percentages of their support. Then I looked at the Virginia map. Starting in the north, it was the same Democratic tsunami pattern. Then, WTF! Price Edward county, flipped from .83% Kerry to 5% Allen. Kept looking, and found there are a whole bunch of contiguous counties in southern Virginia that somehow bucked the national trend, and went way more Republican this year than two years ago. Check out for example, Pittsylvania, Halifax, Meklenburg, Charlotte, Buckingham, etc. etc. Not saying that this proves anything, maybe all politics was local there this year? But, if I were going to look for evidence of voting machine fraud, that's where I would look first. Maybe Brad's clever challenge to Allen is one that the Republicans cannot allow Allen to accept (-;

Bottom line: the people were allowed to speak, the results match the exit polls and the general polls, and now it might be harder to convince folks of the reality of hackability.

Maybe this was Rove's October surprise! Let a lot of Dems in, fool people into thinking the voting machines are okay, Allen wasn't supposed to lose (yes, recount the votes!) and maybe a few other Repubs weren't supposed to lose also. Rove will try the crooked machines again in 2008. Also, anything Repubs do (like hacking machines) Dems can do better. Rove also hopes Dems will not be able to accomplish anything in Iraq for the next two years. But I'll tell you how to turn Iraq around: If Saddam has been found guilty war crimes, then so too should Bush/Cheney. If America stands up for justice for all, then war can be stopped. There cannot be finger-pointing by American governments at other countries for crimes against humanity, when America has murdered tens of thousands of Iraqiis and destroyed the country, reducing it to civil war. Abu Garab(sp?), Guantanamo, torture! Shame on America! America cannot "get away with it" and then tell other countries how to behave in this world. If you prosecute Bush/Cheney, then the world and Iraq will sit up and notice that maybe there is hope in this world for justice, respect for others, and the end of useless, destructive, murderous, thieving war. The Dems may think it's politically smart to let Bush/Cheney off the hook and not "appear" to be vengeful, but if they put their own "butts" ahead of principal in this very serious matter, then they are no better than Bush/Cheney, and America will continue to suffer the consequences of their war crimes, war will continue, and we slowly and surely will destroy ourselves and this wonderful planet.

Right! Me neither! And who does? Nobody! So THAT'S why we cannot shut up about the voting issue. We have to demand of our new Congress that they INVESTIGATE VOTING.
I agree there are way too many #1 issues that desperately need attention, but that is definitely one of them. We need a transparent, PROVEN-RELIABLE voting process, not the proven-hackable one we have now.
We also need to do a few minor things like restore the rule of law & habeas corpus & the Constitution & the Bill of Rights & stop torturing the shit out of people, but...voting is up there high on the list.

Bradfans...although I am totally elated to see our democracy working, I still maintain a healthy dose of skepticism regarding the eager concession and pressure to concede by the Repubs in this particular swing state race. Perhaps more skeletons of corruption would be unveiled as a result of the level of scrutiny which a recount mandates? One can only wonder....
Along that same line, it is now imperative that the american people remain vigilant and totally committed to investigating the corruptibility of our paperless touch screen voting machines like never before! I believe the concerted effort to NOT tamper with voting machines which were being closely monitored and/or overtly watched by citizen observers who were recording events only bespeaks a far greater plan by this dirty trickster GOP....and that is to lull americans into complacency so they can totally "rig" the White House in 08.
I'd say that we need to be very suspicious of the lack of overt corruption with the midterms....it doesn't means the system is NOT corrupt; it simply means that those in power decided to not corrupt it this time....in the hope of reestablishment of credibility and confidence in our voting system so nothing will change and they will do what they did in 04 in Ohio once again in 08. The newly elected Congress needs to mandate changes in this corruptible system IMMEDIATELY! DO NOT BE LULLED INTO COMPLACENCY AND BELIEF IN THE CREDIBILITY OF THESE CORRUPTIBLE VOTING MACHINES. Bigger Potatoes for the GOP are on the horizon, no doubt about it.

A few weeks ago, Bush met with officials/generals from the Pentagon to discuss Iraq. Bushit, I thought. Bush could not care less about Iraq, so why did he meet with the military leaders, except to determine who was "with him" and who was "against him" in the event the Repubs stole yet another election (Repubs 51% and Dems 49%) and the American people took to the streets in protest? It turns out that approx. one week ago Bush signed the John Warner Defense Act of 2007 which allows the President to take control of the State based National Guard units without consent of Governors or local authorities to "suppress public disorder". (see Ted Rall, www.thesmirkingchimp.com) Be assured, the number one enemy of Bush/Cheney is the American people. They are the obstacle to the Bush/Cheney Repub. fascist tyranny of America. Bush doesn't care about Iraq or any one of you. He is a self-centered psychopath who wants to "win" (him being the "winner") at any cost. Don't be fooled by this interim battle, which the Repubs "appear" to have lost. They are still at war with the people of America, and the world. (open Letter)
Nancy,
Congratulations to you in your new post,
And mostly, to US VOTERS, who triumphed despite considerable Fraud,
only because of their VIGILANCE and their determined Numbers!
THEY are who put you where you are, and who you need to LISTEN TO now.
We hear that you're going to have lunch today, 11/9/06, with the "President"
(We are aware, the proof is in, that BOTH his elections were stolen, hence the Quotes,
...Hard to beleive so many of you in Congress haven't factored that in yet!)
So,... DON'T be making any promises to Bush about NOT impeaching him, like
the nonsense you uttered before: This is NOT YOUR PROMISE TO MAKE!
It will be the PEOPLE's right to decide; Represented by the HOUSE you now reside over.
THEY are the ones Bush et al have harmed the most, while you "Representatives' sat in your cushy seats and kept rolling over to his imperial-style leadership! You have much to repair and much to be ashamed of. YOU OWE US!
We were all hoping, when you said it takes a WOMAN to really clean HOUSE, you meant it, and THAT would INCLUDE clearing out the huge pile of ELEPHANT POOP we're all neck-deep in,
and YOU guys have been gingerly stepping around! Do your job, exonerate yourselves in the process: INVESTIIGATE Republican abuses of power, starting at the TOP, and then PROSECUTE, to whatever extent necessary. (Bush seems to think it appropriate to HANG Saddam, for killing maybe 1/100th of the people HE has killed.)
Letting these CRIMIANALS go with a slap on the wrist is just going to encourage MORE of this, and the PEOPLE will feel CHEATED again. As it is, they think Dems are hardly better.
They MUST become an effective OPPOSITION party before they can LEAD.
THIS is what we really voted for in such numbers: a serious CORRECTION, not more Smiley-face, Suckered "Bi-partisanship".
So, you GO, Lady, and do as you yourself prescribed:
CLEAN HOUSE!
Bia Winter et al
Fernandina Beach,
Jebby's Banana Republic
PS: when Bush says he wants to "get it behind us"
Make sure you're sitting down!
Sounds like another SCREWING to me!

I said before the election, 'Who will scream for us (Dems) if we win 30, but should've won 50 (house seats)?'
Well, Dems are winning about 30 house seats.
How many SHOULD Dems be winning?
Any and every close race must be counted carefully. If evidence of cheating is there we must find it. Doubting the results even when your side wins isn't crazy in this case, it's just patriotic.
I especially like the idea mentioned above of looking at maps to find areas which didn't succumb to the blue wave. Where can one see such maps on the internet?
For practical reasons one can easily imagine the cheaters working in contiguous geographic areas instead of here and there all over the place. It's more likely to be 'contained', as with any conspiracy you don't want too many people in on it.
Let's expose all those areas around the country.
My first impression was that the wave was very powerful in Ohio, but that there were still some house seats which refused to flip from Repub to Dem. Why?
The house race in Wyoming was very very close. I don't know where it stands today. As it was Cheney's old seat I can easily imagine them stealing that one (to save face).
There are so many such seats it behooves us to look very close for criminal behavior and 'glitches'.

What happened here is analagous to a very early Supreme Court decision called Mayberry v. Madison.
In it, the court "gave" itself the right to decide if laws were constitutional or not.
It did it by siding WITH the party that would otherwise have argued that they did NOT have the right to decide. By giving ONE PARTY WITH POWER what they wanted, they GOT what they wanted.
The Republicans KNOW that the Democrats will not (without MASSIVE PRESSURE FROM US) investigate and change the electoral process --- they are stupid enough to think they won on their merits.
2008 will be a bloodbath against the Democrats and install the final pieces necessary for corporate fascism in America if we don't fix the system.
We will be LULLED to sleep for a year and then forced into time-wasting campaigns for candidates that can't win against the EVM/Corporate Media machine in 2008.
ELECTION REFORM MUST BE THE FIRST ISSUE after the "first 100 hours program."
Let's start with bringing the FCC up for hearings on why Laura Ingram was allowed to commit a felony on our airwaves. Every dirty trick must be exposed and punished and laws put in place to make them impossible the next time.

"..."I'm not sure there's even a problem," said Jenny Nash, a spokeswoman for the Florida Secretary of State, who oversees elections. She said the office had not received a single complaint or contact about the race.
Nash repeated [Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Kathy] Dent's suggestion that voters may have intentionally decided not to vote in the congressional race.
"It could be a protest vote. There's a lot of different reasons people undervote," she said. "Certainly undervoting is the voter's prerogative."
Nash said no state investigation is planned..."
She said no one called the SoS's office, but apparently 120 voters called the Herald Tribune about their vote problems, & several were interviewed.
I don't even know where Sarasota County is, but I guess I'm finding out.

Before the next Presidential election:
1. Legitimate panel with black box voting included to investigate all electronic voting machines to be used in the future U.S. elections. Personally i maintain they should be outlawed as use for a vote of the American people.
2. Mandatory verifiable paper ballot trail for all U.S. voting machines and national rules for voting machine storage and paper ballot storage.
:) we now have a chance to head off the Global Warming Climate change! Yee-ha!!!
3. National qualifications for voting for all government elections that make common sense and uphold the rights of all American citizens.

For the last six months or more I have received several emails a week with links to petition drives which send copies to your local politicians and newspapers trumpeting various causes. These typically came from political action commitees.
The text was already there and you could add a personel message if you wanted. You just filled in your information and hit send and away it goes to your reps.
This would be a good way to get out to the dems what we want them to accomplish.

It's a known fact that Jeb et al met in Florida before the 2000 elections with a programmer to investigate hacking voting machines. It's also a known fact that Florida then became the "swing state" which ushered in this conspiracy of corruption. From there the ball went to Diebold, a major contributor to Bush/Cheney who developed one of the 3 "approved" voting machines in this country. Enter Ken Stillwell...not only was he Supervisor of Elections for the state of Ohio but was Director of the Ohio Bush/Cheney Campaign....catching my drift?? So, since Jeb couldn't afford (if he has other political aspirations) to have his state look bad again, Ohio became the "swing state" in 04. Stolen election once again.
Sure the dirty tricksters made an eleventh hour attempt with their Robocalling harassment of dem voters but it didn't work as they'd planned. They certainly made a concerted effort to NOT hack machines as before or confidence in our wonderful touch screen voting system would be certainly damaged for another diabolical coup in 08...Add to that black box voting and other voter's rights organizations and the bradblog for encouraging citizens to observe their polling places, watch for irregularities, record events, videotape, talk with voters, etc. The GOP knew they were being observed this time 'round.
I'd put money on the easy concession of Allen and the pressure from mucky-muck repubs to do so is to "cut their losses" with this loss versus risking the discovery of perhaps criminal activities associated with the Virgina campaign. It's so un-Repub-like for them to knuckle under so quickly that there's got to more to the story....
Anyway, bottom line is to not be lulled into complacency, confidence in this intentionally created-to-be-easily-compromised corruptible equipment, and/or people dragging their feet inmaking it a priority right now. Two years is not far off and, unless something is done to protect this aspect of our democracy, they, too, will steal this (perhaps our only) constitutional right.

P.S. As Hobbes once said and I quote: "Where men build on false grounds, the more they build, the greater the ruin". We are seeing prima facia evidence of this very concept. Stolen elections = wrong individual in power = "false grounds"....the tsunami this week indicates that the level of corruption is so great that unless the people took action by their vote on Tuesday, the "ruin" would be even greater.

It's time now to begin pressuring Pelosi and the Democrats to do something about this crippled voting system. I suggest shipping all of the EVM's back to their maker (Diebold, ES & S,Sequoia) who guaranteed that they were "safe" and "uncompromisable"....and demand our money returned, state by state. They were created with an intentional vulnerability and need to be outlawed. These companies need to be investigated to get to the bottom of the "how" and "why" they were created this way....who was really responsible for mandating the creation of hackable machinery, and appropriate individuals prosecuted for their culpability in all of this. This ABSOLUTELY MUST top the list of the first 100 hours that this new Congress meets. I suggest that everyone begin writing letters to reps in both house and senate today and apply pressure on them to begin proceedings NOW in order to preserve our election process. Perhaps Bradblog can provide names, contact information, etc. for us??

Breaking news...just received a note from blackboxvoting.org (Bev Harris)who has done some research on Bush's nominee for replacing Rumsfeld. Looks like Gates is intimately involved with VoteHere, the largest elections industry lobbyist who raised more money to ram the HAVA (Help Americans Vote Act) than Diebold, ES & S, and Sequoia combined!!
As we know, this brought us our current, corruptible touch screen voting system. Did you really think they'd raise all this money and lobby on behalf of our handicapped voters? Too good to be true/usually is!
So Rumsfeld's replacement has direct ties to recently-indicted Abrahamoff's buddy,Bob Ney and K Street lobbyist pal, Steney Hoyer....
This man probably needs to be rejected as a replacement. We need to be very critical of this next individual and our new Congress needs to do a thorough investigation of his background and ties to organized crime in the voting industry.

Re the Jenning/Buchanan race:
"...At the heart of Jennings' argument is that 18,382 voters who cast ballots didn't vote for anyone in the 13th Congressional District race...
...If Democrats can prove that a technical glitch caused the undervote, they'll argue that Jennings won nearly 53 percent of the Sarasota County vote..."
[And if they CAN'T prove a technical glitch? - which they can't, if we can believe the zillion or so stories out there explaining how these machines can be hacked without leaving a trace - then, what? End of story?]
"...While a machine recount followed by a manual recount would happen by Nov. 18, the exercise is a futile one, according to Avi Rubin, a computer science professor at Johns Hopkins University and one of the nation's leading critics of electronic voting.
"You can't tell at the end of the day if there's any way the votes inside those computers correspond with the way people actually voted," he said.
Trying to recount votes in a state using electronic voting machines would be "silly and a waste of time," Rubin said.
EXCUSE ME? SILLY & A WASTE OF TIME??!
I thought he was on OUR side!!! The side that wants to protect democracy & all!
First of all, aren't manual recounts ILLEGAL now in this paragon of a state?? But that little jeb-ism aside...
We're talking about 18,382 voters in one county: how hard would it be to notify all of them & ask them how they voted? It could easily still be kept anonymous & private.
Expensive maybe?
How many mailers did all of YOU guys get just before the election? We got a ton. Everybody got a ton. How much did all of THAT cost?
Seems do-able to me.

So, to answer Dredd's question, the Dems won because of the TSUNAMI of anti-Republican voters, and there are still lots of problems with a voting system that stinks and is not secure.
I'm going to venture an educated guess, and say that the SAME would hold true, as all past elections on e-vote machines, that ALL ANOMOLIES FAVOR REPUBLICANS!
The TSUNAMI of Dem voters overcame this. The TSUNAMI made the "glitches" more invisible.
But, if examined, which it won't be because the Dems won, it will be the SAME THING: ALL ANOMOLIES ON E-VOTE MACHINES FAVOR THE GOP!
The system stinks, I haven't changed my mind about anything.
But I know this: this Dem tsunami is a rare occurrance, and the same problems are still there. Brad documented early e-vote problems on early voting, and Brad? Did they all seem to favor the GOP?
Jesse Jackson said, "We can take winning or losing...we CAN'T take cheating and fraud." I stand by that. If Republicans win, and I am satisfied the vote was accurate, I have no problem that the people spoke and wanted a Republican.
Fraud is not a partisan issue, it's a voter issue.
What about all the voter roll purges, and things like that? I have a solution that would stop this: the death penalty for anyone caught disenfranchising voters. How's that????? That might scare some people!

The New England phone jammer got caught, and THE VERY NEXT ELECTION WE HAVE THE ROBOCALLERS, WHICH WAS FAR WORSE!!!!
So, did the slap on the wrist to the New England phone jammer send an messages? Would the death penalty to the New England phone jammer have stopped the Robocallers???

Unirealist, Floridiot, MarkH,
Thanks for the kudos.
No, I am not a statistician, but a scientist with an eye for patterns.
Maps I used were on New York Times website, interactive maps. If you hover over each county with the mouse, you see the percentages Dem vs. Repub. You can compare past election results with this years, in each state, for senate, house, governor races.
I can't believe that Republicans would avoid using machine hacking this time for a future payoff, I think also that they miscalculated the theft needed, in their hubris and certainty that the bible crowd would ignore their hipocrisy. Anyone who would do all the other voter suppression tactics, would not pass up any chance to win another vote illegally.
I do hope some statisticians keep and study the vote maps: it should be easy to prove that these anomalous patterns are statistically impossible without machine 'glitches' of a criminal degree. And now, we have John Conyers able to get a room in Congress to hold his hearings! Go John, I hope I get to vote for you as President in '08!

Today is a day of Celebration!
Went to the local post office at lunch and there was a lone sign in front in a patch of weeds. It read Deborah Bowan for Secretary of State (CA) "Making Sure your VOTE COUNTS." When i came home from work on the night of November 7th, i turned on the TV and it said she was losing the election. It made me so mad that anyone would vote for the lying corrupt Bruce McPherson that i turned off the TV. What a bunch of uninformed/under informed or moronic sheep voting blindly who OBVIOUSLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN THEIR OWN STATE. Definitely NOT Bradbloggers unfortunately.
Next morning Ms. Bowen pulled off the victory.
While there are very few politicians i would advocate today or in my life, based on the new Secretary of State's words and stance of protecting a fair system of elections, i am proud to hang this fine piece of memorabilia on my wall.
The media might say that the Republicans lost big. The truth for the many informed Americans is that the Fascist Anti-Environmentalist Warmongers aka the biggest loser party LOST. Be it strategic, miraculous, or even close to the actual vote #'s of the people, we now have a chance to address the Global Warming Climate Change Crisis and save millions of lives and over a million entire species.
Start reconstructing Clint and victory will be yours also!
Since Murtha is interested in becoming House Majority Leader, maybe he should invest some time watching World Trade Building #7 falling controlled demolition style in it's own footprint coincidently how World Trade Building #II and #1 fell as well on 9/11 (no commercial jet or ARAB terrorists required). Then he should study that big white marker on the lawn of the Pentagon marking the spot 3 days prior to being struck by the unmanned aircraft. The crash produced no 757 parts including 757 titanium engine parts or passenger body parts. Very interesting that a 3 story jet liner made a 16 foot exit hole.

What if we're overlooking, that if Clint pushes it, he proves evote fraud? That would be a real bonus to all of this. What if Feeney gets snagged, and none of us are thinking about this? Busby, too. What if, by some miracle, they won, and they prove vote fraud? Maybe we better follow those 2 things.
Actually, what if the chances of busting evote fraud would be worse if both of them won? Because no one would pursue it?
I'm sticking with my guns, and saying the Dems actually won by bigger margins than everyone thinks. And there was just as much hacking and suppression and fraud, except with the anti gop tsunami, it isn't noticed like it would have been otherwise.

May the snowstorm of subpoena snowflakes begin,..
November 8, 2006 --- Although President Bush says he wants to reach out to the Democratic Congress, don't look for him to stop using the common GOP pejorative term "Democ-rat" --- with an emphasis on "rat" --- anytime soon. The GOP strategy is shaping up to blaming the new Democratic Congress for present foreign and domestic ills even before it is sworn in.
Bush is in denial about losing his longtime rubber stamp Congress. His first shock treatment will come from House and Senate chairmen who have been stonewalled on everything from investigating pre-war intelligence and Pentagon contract fraud to torture and rendition flights. There are countless other investigations that were blocked by the congressional GOP leadership.
John Conyers (D-MI) becomes chairman of the powerful House Judiciary Committee. His portfolio to investigate election fraud and Patriot Act abuses may result in possible impeachment articles being put forward.
John Dingell (D-MI) becomes chairman of the House Commerce Committee. His committee has oversight for energy (Cheney's secret energy task force is under the gun), telecommunications (media consolidation issues could be on the table), consumer protection, and public health.
Barney Frank (D-MA) becomes chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. Minimum wage increase on the agenda.
Charlie Rangel (D-NY) becomes chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Rolling back tax cuts for billionaires as well as corporate offshore tax havens will be on the agenda.
Henry Waxman (D-CA) becomes chairman of the House Government Reform Committee. He will exercise subpoena power to bring witnesses (friendly and hostile) before his committee to investigate Pentagon contract fraud (watch out Halliburton and KBR).
Ike Skelton (D-MO) becomes chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. Will also investigate Pentagon contract fraud.
Alcee Hastings (D-FL) may become chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Look for real fireworks here with former members of the US Intelligence Community being called to testify on pre-war intelligence cooking.
Neo-conservative ally Tom Lantos is slated to take over the House International Relations Committee. This is the only committee where the Bush administration will have anything close to a safe haven. Lantos was a supporter of the Iraq war.
In the Senate, the Judiciary Committee under the chairmanship of Patrick Leahy will be able to bottle up any right-wing nominations to the Supreme Court, if any should arise. Bush will be forced to submit the names of moderate consensus judges.
Joe Biden will become Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where Iraq will be at the top of the agenda.
Jeff Bingaman becomes Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, where gasoline price gouging and Interior Department scandals will feature prominently.
Jay Rockefeller becomes Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence with subpoena power on pre-war intelligence cooking. Pat Roberts, who has stonewalled for the White House, will be relegated to ranking member.
Carl Levin becomes Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Max Baucus becomes Chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee.
Robert Byrd takes over as Chairman of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, Byrd also becomes President pro tem of the Senate, fourth in line for the White House after Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Vice President Dick Cheney.

TruthIsAll, Big Dan, friends:
I was looking at the exit polls posted on CNN during the election, after the polls closed. Strangely, I couldn't find one that showed simply Dem vs. Repub, but there was a pair of piecharts for Male voters vs. Female voters.
In Virginia, I noticed those polls showing:
1. more females voted than males
2. most females voted Democratic
3. most males voted Republican
So, I compared
(% voters female) X (% females voting Webb) with
(% voters male) X (% males voting Allen)
The first number bigger than the second, so I figured Webb was way ahead in the exit polls.
Then, WTF? I checked again after 99% of the vote was in, and the piechart numbers now showed Webb and Allen were exactly even in the exit polling. Is that the change that TruthIsAll wrote about above?
Did anyone else notice that the exit poll percentages displayed by CNN around midnight were way different than the ones they had up all day?
Did anyone keep screendumps of those?
Are they cached somewhere?
When I saw that, I thought, oh no, the fix is in, just like 2000 and 2004.
Still, I figure they underestimated the 2006 Voter Tsunami, just as they underestimated Katrina.
Hubris, arrogance, before their fall.
We must tell our congresspeople and senators to fix the voting system before 2008! The rethuglicans will not make that same mistake again.

This is a re-post of comment 82 to clean up the format.
Which senate races deviated the most from the pre-election and 7pm exit poll to the recorded vote? Virginia and Montana, the elections which were "too close to call" for hours after the polls closed.
Here are the probabilities:
Dev: Discrepancy between Democratic 7pm Exit poll
vote share and the recorded vote share.
Prob: Probability of discrepancy
Discrepancy; Probability
MT 4%; 1.61e-04 or 1 in 6,196

Here we go again. Edison-Mitofsky contaminated a scientific sample with a corrupted vote count. You see, E-M always assume ZERO fraud. They did it did in 2004. They did it in 2000. It's deja vu all over again.

Once again.
The FINAL National Exit Poll does NOT compute.
http://www.cnn.com/ELECT...es/US/H/00/epolls.0.html
THE DEMOCRATS DID MUCH BETTER THAN THE FINAL EXIT POLL INDICATES!
They always do.
But this time, it's ridiculous.
I will now prove it.
Let's start at the 116 GENERIC PRE-ELECTION POLL TREND LINE. The Democratic vote share was a steadily increasing trend line. On Nov. 7, the Dems had a 14.6% lead over the GOP.
Here's graphic proof:
http://www.geocities.com...n2006_16921_image001.png
The Generic trend line on Nov.7:
Dem 51.8%-GOP 38.6%
Convert to 2-party shares:
Dem 57.3%-GOP 42.7%
That's a 14.6% spread. We will refer to the 14% spread in the following analysis.
_________________________________________
According to the 2006 NATIONAL EXIT POLL PARTY-ID DEMOGRAPHIC:
1) Voters were 38% Democratic, 38% Republican, 25% Independent. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE !
Why so?
a) The weights don't sum to 100.
OK, no big deal here.
b) Dems outnumbered Repubs.
Who was more motivated to vote this time?
c) The weights were 38D-35R-27I at the 12:22am 2004 NEP timeline. Look it up.
d) THE CLINCHER:
The 2006 vote based on PARTY-ID weights/vote shares are IMPOSSIBLE! If the weights/shares are to be believed, then the GOP won the Generic vote! Why, then, would you believe them?
HERE'S PROOF THAT THE 2006 FINAL EXIT POLL IS BOGUS:
Check the PARTY-ID math. According to the Final NEP, the GOP won by 50.3-49.1%. Really?
The Final NEP has become laughable, a sick joke.
Who do they think they're fooling?
THEY ARE INSULTING OUR INTELLIGENCE.
Don't they realize they can't fool us anymore?
Don't they realize that we can crunch the numbers?
Would someone please get this to Olbermann.
THE 2006 NEP UNDERSTATES DEMOCRATIC GENERIC NATIONAL VOTE SHARE BY 7% AND OVERSTATES THE GOP GENERIC VOTE SHARE BY 7%! HOW DO WE KNOW?
BECAUSE THE DEMS WON THE PRE-ELECTION GENERIC POLLS BY OVER 14%!
Here's THE REAL MATH:
2006 NATIONAL EXIT POLL
Sample 13208 MOE 0.87%
PARTY-ID
..... Mix Dem Rep
Dem 38% 90% 9% C 38% too low, 90% too low, 9% too high
Rep 38% 7% 93% C 38% too high, 93% too high, 7% too low
Ind 25% 49% 46% C 49% WTF! Independents voted 60/40 for Dems
Total 101% 49.1% 50.3% C WTF! Are they serious?
LET'S REVISE THE WEIGHTS/SHARES TO DERIVE A 12% GENERIC DEMOCRATIC SPREAD:
PARTY-ID (adjusted)
Dem 40% 93% 7%
Rep 35% 11% 89%
Ind 25% 60% 40%
Total 100% 56.1% 44.0%
That's more like it!
________________________________________________
HOW VOTED IN 2004
Using this demographic, the national result was 55.8 Dem-44.2 GOP. That's an 11.6% spread. It's too low. Why? Because the Bush/Kerry/Other weights are bogus.
Kerry won IN 2004 by 52-47%. And the third party vote was about 1%.
This is an analysis of how bogus 2004 exit poll weights were used to match a corrupt vote count:
http://www.geocities.com...onmodel/BogusWeights.htm
2006 NATIONAL EXIT POLL
Sample 13208 MOE 0.87%
HOW VOTED in 2004
........Mix Dem GOP
Kerry 45% 94% 5% C Kerry's true vote was 52% in 2004.
Bush 46% 13% 85% C Bush's true vote was 47% in 2004.
Other 5% 62% 21% C 3rd party vote was 1% in 2004.
DNV 4% 79% 18%
Total 97.6% 54.5% 43.1%
2-pty 100% 55.8% 44.2%
Now let's adjust weights and vote shares to derive a 14% spread. We use 51 Kerry/46 Bush/1 Other/2 DNV weights. The adjusted weights are based on the TRUE Kerry/Bush vote BEFORE it was stolen due to uncounted, spoiled ballots and vote switching.
2006 NATIONAL EXIT POLL
VOTED IN 2004(adjusted weights and vote shares)
........Mix Dem GOP
Kerry 51% 94% 5% C Kerry's true 2004 vote
Bush 46% 13% 85% C Bush's true vote
Other 1% 62% 21% C 3rd parties had 1%
DNV 2% 79% 18% C did not vote in 2004
Total 98.3% 56.1% 42.2%
2-pty 100% 57.1% 42.9%
The adjusted Democratic 2-party national vote share is now 57.1%. That's within 0.2% of the Nov.7 trend line (see above).
_______________________________________________________________
GENDER
Based on the 2006 National Exit Poll 2-party vote shares, the national split was 54.4% Dem-45.6% GOP.
That's an 8.8% spread. Much too low.
2006 NATIONAL EXIT POLL
Sample 13208 MOE 0.87%
.......Mix Dem GOP
Male 48% 51% 47%
Female 52% 56% 43%
Total 98.5% 53.6% 44.9%
2-pty 100% 54.4% 45.6%
ASK THE QUESTION: WHY IS THERE A 2.8% DISCREPANCY BETWEEN "GENDER" AND "HOW VOTED" NATIONAL VOTE SHARES AND A 5% DISCREPANCY BETWEEN GENDER AND PARTY-ID?
Once again, let's adjust the weights and vote shares to get a result which approximates the Generic vote.
Gender (Adjusted)
.......Mix Dem GOP
Male 46% 53% 47%
Female 54% 57% 43%
Total 100% 55.2% 44.8%
This is just further confirmation that the Final 2006 NEP was matched to a corrupt vote count, just as it was in in 2004 and 2000.
Edison-Mitofsky never considers the possibility of corrupt vote counts in applying their exit poll methodology.
WHY DO THEY DO THIS?
WHY DO THEY ALWAYS ASSUME ZERO FRAUD?
WHY DO THEY ALWAYS ASSUME A PRISTINE VOTE COUNT?
THAT'S WHY THE FINAL NATIONAL EXIT POLLS ARE ALWAYS WRONG.
THAT'S WHY THE FINAL EXIT POLLS ALWAYS LOW-BALL THE DEMOCRATIC VOTE.
THAT'S WHY THE FINAL EXIT POLLS NEVER MATCH FINAL PRE-ELECTION POLLS.
THAT'S WHY THE EARLY, UNCONTAMINATED EXIT POLLS ARE CLOSE TO THE TRUTH.
AND THAT'S WHY THEY'LL NEVER SHOW US RAW EXIT POLL DATA.

I read also about Bush and the usurping of local and state gov. authority in ordering the N.G. in any event that HE deams "Domestic Violence" to take over to "calm" the "event". I was very disturbed by this and wondered why no one else is concerned. I too believe that if the election went RED, that there would have been a public outcry, and Bush would not hesitate to use this power.
I also agree with everyone one this thread that there is sooooooooo much to fix, sooooooooooooo many number 1's that I doubt it can all be done in two years.
scary and verrrrrrrrrry depressing stuff.

At about 4:00pm EST, (2:00pm Utah), on election day, I was listening to The Sean Hannity show and Karl Rove was brought on to talk about the exit polls.
He refused to give ONE exit poll result and just talked about how inaccurate they were in the 2004 election. He then said that it was a sad commentary, but the Republicans would have to use an army of lawyers to make sure everything went right after the election.
ISN'T IT A BIT ODD THAT THE REPUBLICANS ARE NOW QUIETLY CONCEDING LIKE GENTLEMEN!
Santorum wants to impound voting machines and then drops out of the race like nothing happened! It's very obvious they know the only way they can salvage this debacle is by delving into voting machine fraud issues and they DON'T WANT TO GO THERE!
Karl, you are an idiot and a loser. You better leave the country while you can! What happened to your special "math".
These guys did not expect this and they are cutting their loses by not causing any trouble!
He He!

I said the other day here that I thought it would be acceptable for Bush to be a lame duck with no credibility for the next two years. At the time, I thought the Republicans would be able to bring in Chuck Hagel or McCain to replace him for some reason and worried it might legitimize things for the Republicans, but now that I know Pelosi would take over,
I RECANT!
THESE FACISTS HAVE TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE RULE OF LAW TO EVEN EXIST!
There was a small spot on C-SPAN with a former congresswoman or senator, (can't remember the name), who was involved in the Nixon impeachment process. She said that nothing would have happened if the people hadn't stood up then, and added that the same thing would have to take place now in order for anything to happen.
She believes strongly, this needs to happen again. To let these guys get away with all of the proven illegal activities they have perpetuated on their own people would be insane.
There is ALREADY HUGE SUPPORT FOR SUCH AN EFFORT!
Zogby did a poll many months ago showing 52% support for impeachment if the president lied us into war. Most of the work has already been done. Just a little more truth mongering, and it's ours!

Larry, I believe that was Liz Holtzman. She was interviewed by Lenny Charles on the INN Report, too, on Free Speech TV.
Truth Is All's data and the comments about the fixed exit polls MUST BE EXAMINED!!!!!! And possible stolen state seats, TIA's data must not be ignored!
Every 2 years we're going to go through this shit, if we don't change our voting system.
This should be one of the "first 100 hours" "to do"'s by Democrats, or they are saying "screw you" to us!!!

Here's the way I see it: We have 2 years to correct this, or we'll have another Republican neo con president in 2008!!! 2 years is not a lot of time.
It seems there was a lot of stolen votes across the country, according to TIA's data. This tells me, that in a presidential election, the only election that is truely nationwide (the popular vote), they can steal enough votes across the nation for a popular win for a Republican president.
Let's not sit on our asses, saying how great it is that the Republicans lost!
Question: How do we explain TIA's data? I want someone in the Democratic Party to explain TIA's data. I want Bev Harris and Brad to explain TIA's data. And all the vote groups that Brad links to, I want them all to explain TIA's data. Once again, it does not match the final count. Once again, the exit polls were fixed to match the "final count". There may not be a Democratic tsunami in 2008, and that means nothing changed. The root problem has not changed. We were thrown a bone to stop our transparency in voting movement? WTF???

Remember Iran/Contra we showed what scum those Nazi/Fascists in the Reagan/GHWBu$$h administrations were capable of.
BUT WE LET THEM ALL WALK,.. without suffering prosecution/repercussions for what they did against America. Their "Shadow Government" was allowed to slither away and blend back into society. In less then a decade these FASCISTS resurfaced to hijack our government and dismantle our democracy in a more determined way.
If in the future we do not want to be brought to the precipice where FASCISM/CORPORATISM again over powers DEMOCRACY - via a unelected/but fraudulently appointed unitary executive and/or a Nazi Cabal operating under the radar and essentially becomes a "SHADOW GOVERNMENT" - this time we must prosecute these FASCIST/NAZI/CORPORATIST to the full extent permitted by law. It is a non-solution to allow them to walk away scot-free. These people,.. these criminals do not learn from their mistakes. Corrective actions and behavior modifications are beyond their realms of thought. But rather they regroup to formulate a better plan to manipulate and circumvent the protections build into the system so they can covertly hijack,..dismantle,.. and bring damage to our democracy to the benefit of their exclusive self interests.
If we do not cut the head off (investigate/prosecute/incarcerate) this monster of Hitler Worshipers masquerading as social and economic conservatives they will rear their ugly heads to dance another day.
POLITICAL PARTY GAMESMANSHIP IS ONE THING - A FASCIST COUP DE TAT IS ENTIRELY SOMETHING ELSE. ONE IS COMPATIBLE WITH A VIBRANT DEMOCRACY -THE OTHER IS DEFINITELY NOT.
Ultra right-wing Nazism/Fascism is a clump of elephant poop society can ill afford to habitually step in again and again and again. We must curtail their criminal conduct for the long term.

That's - "The DREDD",..
He has just been out of the trenches for the last 60 days,.. inhaling fresh crisp clean vibrant mountain air. By October 2008,.. he will again be more edgy and recalcitrant if the fascists get to near the political podium again.
Zen nirvana ? - enjoy !

Maybe Dredd got "tasered" by the FBI, ala Christopher Bollyn! We are now left with "Manchurian Candidate" Dredd! Or "Stepford Wife" Dredd!

You're right, it was Elizabeth Holtzman and by golly, she was on Democracy Now today talking about it with Daniel Ellsberg.

That pretty much says it! Good post!
Two top priorites for the congress:
1. Publicly debated impeachment of Bush and Cheney. (Remember how fun that was Republicans?)
2. Voting machine reform or elimination, which can be debated in public, outside of congress by competent computer professionals and members of the public not tied to ANY CORPORATION THAT WILL BE INVOLVED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF SUCH MACHINES, and then presented to congress for passage.
Gee, that sounded pretty legalistic. Dredd should be able to tell me if that was worded correctly. He ran circles around Kurt Bellman when they were sparring here a while back.

Big Dan
There is a time for doom and gloom, and there is a time when the Ewoks dance.
The facts and the reality should determine which is which.
For now I am dancing in the streets with the Ewoks.
And preparing for the empire to strike back.

It sounds good.
Speaking of that, Bush wrote a tune. It may be plagiarism, cause all he did was remove the scarlet letter "R" from love:
Rove SickI'm walking through streets that are dead
Walking, walking with you in my head
My feet are so tired, my brain is so wired
And the clouds are weepingDid I hear someone tell a lie?
Did I hear someone's distant cry?
I spoke like a child; you destroyed me with a smile
While I was sleepingI'm sick of Rove but I'm in the thick of it
This kind of Rove I'm so sick of itI see, I see Rovers in the meadow
I see, I see silhouettes in the window
I watch them 'til they're gone and they leave me hanging on
To a shadowI'm sick of Rove; I hear the clock tick
This kind of Rove; I'm Rove sickSometimes the silence can be like the thunder
Sometimes I wanna take to the road and plunder
Could you ever be true?
I think of you
And I wonderI'm sick of Rove; I wish I'd never met you
I'm sick of Rove; I'm trying to forget youJust don't know what to do
I'd give anything to
Be with you
Our apologies to Bob Dylan.

The lying neocons took a beating because their own party saw it wasn't flying anymore. Sad, isn't it? (sniff)
Hit the road Rove, and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more. Hit the road...
Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Perle, Kristal, Bennett (William the czar), Quail, and Bush (as in Jeb). Is that all of the stupid PNAC crowd, or did I miss any?
By the way, Joseph Biden created the office of Drug Czar. Thanks Joe! That was really helpful. We can always use a war against our own terrorists people!
