I just want to say that I am sick and tired AND sick and tired of hearing Bush talk about “September 11th”. He has totally hijacked the term and it’s meaning along with. He acts like he “owns” September 11th. Yet he does not take responsibility for the “before” nor the “during” and we know he isn’t taking the responsibility for the “after”. So what claim does he really have then on September 11th? Should he even be allowed to use the term?

Most recent things that have freaked me out when I thought I couldn’t be freaked out any more:

    1. The white house declaring itself immune from whistleblower protection laws based on some medieval-sounding maxim of “The King Can Do No Wrong”.

Along with the pretzels, we need to start sending him some of those paper Burger King crowns.

    2. katherine harris winning the primary. Now THERE’S an election that could use some damn scrutiny. Seriously, WHO voted for this cupcake?? WHO??

    3. Congress theoretically being able to declare the loser of an election the winner of an election, according to Paul Lehto. That one STILL has my bloomers in a twist.

    4. The fascists calling us fascists. Don’t they know that the word has an actual definition?

    5. bush supposedly reading 60 books. HA! And three of them were “Shakespeares”. Tell me another one. Ok, that didn’t so much freak me out as make me fall off my chair in an uncontrollable fit of laughter while wetting my pants, but still.

LOL #3 – good post; On my web post last week, I altered just three words from the following AP article to make it more correctly fit reality; changing “critics” to “supporters” made it sound so much more true:

Rumsfeld lashes out at Bush’s supporters
AP – SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Tuesday the world faces “a new type of fascism” and likened supporters of the Bush administration’s war strategy to those who tried to appease the Nazis in the 1930s. In unusually explicit terms, Rumsfeld portrayed the administration’s supporters as suffering from “moral or intellectual confusion” about what threatens the nation’s security.

Here you go, here’s the next big story. The only way to prove vote fraud is polls vs. machine count…so fix the polls…and, of course, guess for which party??? The only party that disenfranchizes voters…

Also, ABC is going to air a docudrama about 9/11, blaming Clinton. Even Clinton told ABC not to air it.

I posted here, when Israel invaded Lebanon, that I saw on the ABC nightly news, an ABC reporter reporting from an Israeli helicopter, and then the ABC reporter interviewed the Israeli commander in his office.

What’s going on at ABC???????????????? Did Sinclair broadcasting take over ABC????????????????

What was the pre-election debacle over the airing of an anti-kerry documentary – I forget the specifics, but I’m sure many of you remember…

anyway I think that the majority of those Sinclair affiliates were, in fact, ABC.

Even now..the numbers don’t add up. The numbers of people who are fed up with congress and this administration versus poll numbers of incumbants.

The false story of how Bush is reading books (and not just westerns, but “serious” books) is just the most amazing piece of crap I’ve ever seen.

What is most horrible is that the reporters for the mass media (ALL OF THEM) let Snow and others get away with that BS without calling them on it. Why? Because if they did, they might get sent to a different gig where they wouldn’t get to be so “important” and have so much “access” (to just what the Republican scum want them to have and only when).

Just once, I’d like to hear (with appropriate bleeping, of course) a reporter respond to Tony Snow with “Are you fucking joking Tony? You don’t really expect the American People to belive THAT piece of shit lie, do you?”

Just once. I would start supporting the First Amendment for the MSM again if I just heard that ONCE.

Oberman’s recent speeches came close, but still, he was talking way too hoity-toity for the average joe and jane. Call a liar a liar, don’t call a liar a dissembler of the facts and mis-stater of the truth.

    KILL YOUR TELEVISIONS!!!

    SAVE THE MIKE MALLOY PROGRAM!

All of the posts here that are so mad at Air America and say they’re not going to listen anymore, STOP IT!

I love Air America. It has given us the only voice we have. Nobody is going to agree with everything somebody does, but let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water!

I was listening to Randi Rhodes today and:

THEY HAVE SET UP A SPECIAL PHONE LINE FOR MIKE MALLOY SUPPORTERS TO CALL. RANDI SAID TO BE POLITE, BUT SHE ALSO SAID THAT THERE IS PROGRESS BEING MADE ON THE MALLOY MATTER!

    CALL 212-871-8290

Also, Air America has an ad about Dennis Hastert swearing in Bilbray that doesn’t hold back! I think Al Franken is holding back on a lot of stuff, but I still think he is one of the funniest people in the world and has done much for our cause. Prove me wrong!

Of other interest, on the REAL NEWS: Democracy NOW! and the INN Report, they are reporting on cluster bombs. The Senate passed the continued use of cluster bombs, with many democrats including Hillary Clinton voting for use of them. Democracy NOW! and INN Report are reporting that all cluster bombs are made by the United States. They are purposely designed to have 40-50% “duds” so they become for all intents and purposes landmines to kill civilians, and terrorize them. That is why Israel dropped more cluster bombs in the last 72 hours before the ceasefire, to litter Southern Lebanon as a minefield, to terrorize their civilians with these WMD’s, all made 100% by American Industrial Complex.

Don’t forget where the REAL NEWS on tv is: LINK-TV on DISH 9410 & FSTV on DISH 9415. If you have cable, cancel it and get DISH just for these 2 channels, so you get the real news on TV.

On a tangent, I’ve just created a wikipedia entry for Brad.

I felt that his blog was important enough to warrant one, in fact I was surprised there wasn’t one already.

It’s just a stub for now, I’m sure people here can help.

It’s one more outlet for the important work he’s doing – generally the wiki entry on most subjects will end up on the first page of google hits.

There’s plenty of scope to expand the entry on Clint Curtis, the Diebold entry is a bit of a mess right now, Raymond Lemme doesn’t have one etc etc.

Seems a shame to overlook this resource.

“Outgribe” must be some bastardization of “outgrabe”, which, as we all know, is something the mome raths do… regularly, and for long.

Here, The Jabberwocky, by Lewis Carrol:

‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
    Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
    All mimsy were the borogoves,
    And the mome raths outgrabe.
    ‘Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
    The frumious Bandersnatch!’
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought–
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
    And stood awhile in thought.
And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
    And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
    The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
    He went galumphing back.
‘And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
    O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!’
    He chortled in his joy.
‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
    Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
    All mimsy were the borogoves,
    And the mome raths outgrabe.

It’s like the Nazis insisting that water was a form of ice, when ice is a form of water! Outgrabe past tense of outgribe? That is probably it. Just remember those were all real WORDS.

  28. 44)
Chris Hooten said on 9/7/2006 @ 11:25pm PT: [Permalink]

Jabberwocky – duh, above, now accepted to mean nonsensical language (by Carroll’s own definition)
rath – In the poem, it is thought to refer to a kind of green pig or turtle.
outgrabe – first appeared in “Jabberwocky.”
Outgrabe – Something between bellowing and whistling, with a kind of sneeze in the middle. Since the verse is in past tense, this is probably a preterite form derived from a strong verb such as “outgribe”.
    —————————————
Rath. A species of land turtle. Head erect, mouth like a shark, the front fore legs curved out so that the animal walked on its knees; smooth green body; lived on swallows and oysters.
Outgrabe — past tense of the verb to outgribe (it is connected with the old verb to grike or shrike, from which are derived `shriek’ and `creak’) `squeaked’.

I can’t figure out which word was first!
    shoot.

    S. 2453, the National Security Surveillance Act
    http://www.aclu.org/safefree/ns...s20060906.html

    -=-=-=-

    Dear Barbra Boxer,

It recently came to my attention there is a bill
“S. 2453, the National Security Surveillance Act”
going around Sponsered by Dick Cheney and Arlen Specter.

It seems to me this is little more than another attack on the constitution by part of the corrupt oath-of-office breaking team in an attempt to spy on anyone for any reason, perhaps political, yet who would know with no oversight.

They could on a whim go through YOUR HOUSE without saying a word ever.

If it were my house, in my opinion that’s tresspassing and breaking and entering and a threat to my life.

I have a right to protect my life and my property.

This bill would conflict with everything I know.

I would suggest, a counter bill called, Break your Oath Of Office and you get life in prison.

Then perhaps things like corruption in elections and such could be tacked on as pork to not allow anyone (Or Corporation) busted for corruption to ever serve in government, or lobby government, or contract for government ever again for life.

I am about sick of what I am hearing coming from the government, I don’t blame you personally, but I am starting to think the whole US is headed for a civil war of it’s own.

For example why is Blackwell, or Katherine Harris even ON a ballot? Oh well that’s Ohio, I ain’t supposed to care about Ohio right?

    THIS CORRUPTION MUST BE STOPPED.

    PLEASE STOP THE CORRUPTION.

ps: I am with ya on a NO for prop 85.

Thanks for all you been doing.

    S. 2453, the National Security Surveillance Act. Sponsored by Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) and drafted in close consultation with the White House, the Cheney-Specter bill would make complying with FISA and the Fourth Amendment optional for the president. The bill would also vastly expand the government’s ability to conduct warrantless surveillance and physical searches of Americans’ homes and businesses without judicial check.

    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

    Dear Doris Matsui,

It has recently come to my attention that
representatives Heather Wilson (R-NM), Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) have introduced a bill, HR 5825, in the House. That proposal would give the president unprecedented power to conduct warrantless spying and physical searches of Americans on American soil for months at a time, without any judicial check or finding that an American is conspiring with al Qaeda. The bill also authorizes the warrantless surveillance program. The ACLU noted the bill allows any act of terrorism to trigger the suspension of the court order requirements of FISA.

It seems to me this is little more than another attack on the constitution by part of the corrupt oath-of-office breaking team in an attempt to spy on anyone for any reason, perhaps political, yet who would know with no oversight.

GWB has now admitted that he committed war crimes by torturing and detaining prisoners in secret prisons for over three years. GWB is trying to sell this to stupid American voters as a good thing. Where is the outrage?

What could these prisoners possibly know about OBL and AQ after being in prison this long? We know where OBL and the Taliban leaders are. They are in Pakistan and are being protected by our ally.

Meanwhile, the rubber-stamp Congress is trying to find a way to retroactively absolve GWB of these crimes. Jabberwocky makes more sense than this.

    #49 Larry,
Agent 99 and I have this thing going where she uses words I am not familiar with, so I have to go look them up. I started posting the definitions. I was trying to stump her with a toughy whose roots are in the poem “Jabberwocky” by Lewis Carroll (See #37)
    from the line:
    “And the mome raths outgrabe.”
I myself am still not sure if the poem is the first place any form of the word was used or not. There are many words that were made up in that poem, and later became part of the language.
However mostly I liked the bizarre definition of outgrabe/to outgribe (past tense, present tense):
“Something between bellowing and whistling, with a kind of sneeze in the middle.”

Now how the hell do you describe something like that?

  37. 57)
czaragorn said on 9/8/2006 @ 8:40am PT: [Permalink]

Hi Chris – I’m anachronistic enough to belong to the slink slank slunk school. Outgribe has to be the proper form of the present tense, but I firmly bleieve that the meanings of all the words are up to the interpreters involved

From an outside observer here are my two cents. I have been reading a bit about the upcoming ABC documentary. My impression is that this might be part of a communication strategy to put part of the blame on Democrats.

The Republicans know the public at large rejects the response and is tired of lies. To me, this looks like a ploy to even out the playing field for the Republicans and Bush so they are not held accountable in November elections for the mistakes regarding the Iraq policy. This was used in Mexico too by the right, for example they pointed at flimsy corruption charges that seemed to imply the left was as corrupt as the right here, a BIG FAT LIE. They did this with the support of the media. Then they followed with an agressive smear campaign against the left also supported by the media.

My sympathies are with US progressives. I hope they are able to counter attacks and smear campaign to be expected from those that do not wish to be held accountable.

Yep, Larry, it was so darn pleasant to go back to the wonderful jubjub birds and frumious bandersnatch for a little while. I find such things all the more precious these days, and I wish it were a GOOD thing. Instead the pleasure has a SAD tinge to it, because of the filthy * and his filthy insufficient brain and his filthy mouth and his filthy killing.

I sure hope we’re as happy in November as we are now about our candidates winning their primaries.

It will be nice someday when we can actually just enjoy the wilderness rather then turning into a one-man news organization when our brother-in-laws act up, won’t it?

    Welcome back, BB2!

Well, Path to 9/11 was worse than I’d expected. God, the MUSIC! The whole thing was so offensive. It played like an overlong episode of 24.

But what I really want to post is this about Russ Feingold, which has been buried (among alot of other things) by all the Path hype:

“…Senator Arlen Specter, a Republican who keeps playing at liberal to the home crowd in Pennsylvania but who has shown himself to be nothing but an enabler of Bush’s constitutional crime wave…huffed and puffed a little about its being illegal, and then came up with a proposal that, if passed by Congress, would retroactively exonerate the president of his crime against the Constitution, while establishing a new shortcut to permit the warrantless spying to continue unabated, and unmonitored by either Congress or the FISA court.

It looked like this atrocity of Specter’s was going to pass into law, but Sen. Feingold, with the help of…three Republican senators…who still respect the Bill of Rights and rule of law, managed to fend it off by way of a filibuster threat.

Feingold deserves all of our thanks for this move…”

Just sent this email to the good Senator:

THANK YOU, Senator Feingold, for acting to stop the Specter bill, which would retroactively ‘absolve’ the president of the CRIME of warrantless wiretaps!!
I greatly appreciate your courageous efforts to stand up for the rule of law.

Please keep emphasizing that the issue here is not privacy rights but ILLEGALITY!

    Larry,

I have to admit I was kind of hoping someone would bring up Bush. LOL

    Joan,

In order to preserve my TV I didn’t watch Path to 9/11. The stack of bricks next to my chair was just too tempting.

Thanks for the news about Senator Feingold. Great news!

Hmmm is really all I have to say today. All the covertness in this world is making me tired. It’s really too much for my very simple, cringingly, grammatically incapable mind. Think I might go to the races. Always worked for Auntie Nell. Nice pink banners WP.

Thanks for the link. It’s nice to send an E-mail that somebody might care about for once!

OUT OF THE THOUSANDS THAT JUST GET LAUGHED OUT EVEN THOUGH THEY’RE SERIOUS AS A HEART ATTACK!

The rule of law. Where have I heard that before!

    BlueBear2 & Larry,
I honestly don’t know if Feingold or any of them care a whit about what we have to say, or if they even read our emails & letters.
I just figure that usually I write or call with a request or a complaint, but I think it’s good to also thank the ones who do something good.
