In all the hubbub that occured this afternoon vis a vis Diebold, I want to make sure that you folks noticed the previous EXCLUSIVE concerning Conyers and the Downing Street/Iraq business. It’s an important story that may have gotten buried by the news about everyone’s favorite American Voting Machine company which followed quickly on its heels.
The earlier story we reported is important as it signals that there is much to come from the Judiciary Committee Dems in regard to the use, misuse and/or abuse of pre-war intel. The story was also updated a bit with comments from AfterDowningStreet.org’s David Swanson after I originally published. And our sources say there will likely be additional notable headlines along with all of this in the next week or so…So stay tuned…

I read it on Thinkprogress. Conyers has registered several Iraq/DSM web domains. Smart thinking. I’d say he’s going to corner themarket on truthful reporting on these issues. He’s heading the Repugs off at the pass so thsy can’t ‘swift boat’ him with some website designed to spew revisionist history.
Conyers has his shit together.
Conyers for Pres in ’08
Second that. Let’s hope he doesn’t get into any small planes between now and then, and have someone pull a Wellstone (or a Carnahan) on him. He’s a target.
Soul, I was thinking the same thing. Conyers is harmless as long as he’s marginalized. But if people actually start paying attention to him, the neocons will have to Wellstone him. Or Raymond Lemme him.
But I don’t think we have to worry about the MSM paying too much attention. All the stories today were about Bush’s bounce. Time and Newsweek stories this week both treating Bush as a legitimate president suffering bad polls, not a genocidal megalomaniac. Jee-zus.
Mr. Conyers, remember to provide a link to Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald, and to this blog, on all those websites.
Thanks.
Jon Bonifaz is a true American heroe, we should all contribute to his SOS campaign in Massachussets http://www.johnbonifaz.com and listen to the 6:30 conference call tonite (blog call), to hear what Jon has to say about his Downing Street activities and the continuing way he is holding the Bush regime accountable for its many crimes…
Brad,
Thanks for the heads up. It’s be good to see how this develops.
I agree this may be a good effort to stunt any repug efforts at tainting the info pool on the Downing Street Documents. lets see how things go…
When Congressman Conyers brings up his web sites, perhaps he will address a nagging question I have.
The president is pushing democracy in Iraq in his latest moves to reverse the diminishing appreciation the American people have for neoCons.
This effort the president is presenting is being done via his speeches around the nation.
He is saying that Iraq will be the first democracy in the area. WHAT?
He is forgetting that Isreal is a democracy. And that it has been there for a long time.
The big point he is attaching to the significance of the Iraqi democracy, is that "democracies bring peace".
Is it any wonder, then, why he is leaving out the democracy of Israel in the premise that democracy axiomatically brings peace to the region?
After all isn’t it the democracy of Israel that is at the heart of much of the friction in the region?
And isn’t Israel planning an attack on Iran, another democracy in the region? Having a democracy there, then, is not an ipso facto source of peace.
And isn’t the only current war in the middle east a situation where a democracy invaded a non-democracy and now occupies it "so it will become a democracy and therefore become more peaceful"?
I fear the president is doing significant damage to the notion of democracy with his idle banter, and I hope Conyers will point out these inconsistencies.
