Better us than your vote.
That should be their new campaign slogan Brad!

I'm never frist....heh....
Anyway, I'd like to go waaayyy OT.... don't know why, but I've been finding the barbarism of professional boxing rather compelling lately - Showtime's announcer Steve Albert (must be related to Marv eh?) has GOT to be the weirdest looking on-air guy I've ever seen.
Like a younger, pre-embalment Larry King - only with the Matt Dillon "choppers" from Something About Mary. Sure, there's the obligitory slicked back pompadour with 70's era mutton-chop sideburns, but what really stood out were his ears.
No...Really....the word Vulcan comes to mind - I honestly wondered if they were prosthetics at first glance. But upon further inspection, it was easy to envision him as a boy, with dear old dad swinging him around in the front yard....like LBJ did with his hounddogs....

Does anyone know about a link somewhere to the text of Bush's speech yesterday? The section where he was talking about "tyrants and would-be tyrants" was SO all about himself, though I'm sure he didn't realize it - or maybe he did??

If 79% of Republicans approve of Bush, but only 37% overall do...
Then aren't WE in a clear majority in this country?
Because, if half the US population is progressive-oriented, and half the population is Republican, then 79% Republican approval would earn Bush a 40% approval, right?

That's like asking, "What's more complete - 'finished' or 'done' ?" Find one and you're at the other. These busy little bees have seen fit to tie off and belay one another for the climb to the top of their happy little mountain (a mountain which they themselves built specifically for this purpose--or, at least outsourced the no-bid contract to build to Haliburton--oh, nevermind...I don't even wanna get started...Oy! Ya makin me chutzpah, Georgie--now go to your room!), and now that their hands are full with that whole "not-plunging-to-a-gruesome-death" thing, it's more or less impossible to release the life-line. Even if they (probably Bush, for the most part) are able to let out a little more rope to gain some leeway, that bloated, fat piggie on the other end is just too heavy, and the descent of one will be followed oh-so-briefly by the other. Hey George, don't worry, Sport--no one has EVER died from falling off of ANYTHING, no matter how high it was. I feel I should mention that sudden stop at the end of the fall, though...yeah--it's a motherfucker.
Oh, and in re:comment #13 (Unirealist)--I think it's slightly more complicated than that. There are like, 20 more steps to the equation to figure it all out. It involves chaos theory (law) and rattles my brain far beyond grasping. However, on the upside, if you map the number paths and represent them graphically, then add color, they draw these farout, pretty pictures that are like, totally trippy, dude. Totally.

Did you ever notice how Marv Albert can't begin a sentence without using the word "able?"
"Able to make a first down..."
"Able to clear the puck out of his own end..."
"Able to call a time out..."
He has two little brothers, Al Albert and Steve Albert, who sound identical and copied his style to the letter. Don't know, however, if they copied Marv's penchant for strange behavior in motels.
Sorry to go off topic...but it strikes me how many people are still popular broadcasters after being disgraced. Pat Robertson, Gordon Liddy, Ollie North, Rush Limbaugh, Marv Albert, Larry Kudlow. I guess we can expect Bubba Clinton to take to the microphone soon.

For those of you who missed it, here's the truly, TRULY amazing self-description. As I was listening yesterday on NPR, and pointing to the radio, saying "That's YOU!!?!?", I also found myself taking great comfort in the President's final sentence...
BUSH: "Throughout history, tyrants and would-be tyrants have always claimed that murder is justified to serve their grand vision. And they end up alienating decent people across the globe.
Tyrants and would-be tyrants have always claimed that regimented societies are strong and pure until those societies collapse in corruption and decay.
Tyrants and would-be tyrants have always claimed that free men and women are weak and decadent until the day that free men and women defeat them."

Assume 200 voters:
200 @ 37% = 74 people favor Bush.
Assume 100 Repub 100 Dem (Survey showed 14% of Dems favor Bush)
100 @ 79% = 79 R
100 @ 14% = 14 D
79+14 = 93 favor Bush.
To get to 74 (37%) you need
72 @ 79% = 56.9 R
128 @ 14% = 17.9 D
56.9+17.9 = 74.8 favor Bush
In the same survey the Independants had an approval rate of 29%. When you figure them in it would sway things even more towards the Dems, but the ratio of independs to Reps and Dems was not given.
Of course these are just statistics, and can be manipulated in many ways to get the results desired.
If the ratios of people interviewed are a true representation of the cross section of this country it would centainly show a major shrinkage of the Repug base.

Its getting so bad for the neocons now that all the trolls have gone away...I almost miss them. Question: do you dedicated bloggers spend time on other more "mainstream" blogs like AOL, and if so which are good? My point is that we get very well educated here but as is often the case, a lot of preaching to the converted. We need to keep influencing new people, esp. conservatives to see the obvious nastiness of Bushco and at all times bite our tongues lest we say "we told you so".

I've entered in the discussion forums at Democratic Underground, But the discusions at most of the others such as AOL are so intellectualy numbing that it is not a pleasant experience.
But you are right though, we should be spreading the word.
As far as the conservative sites, from what I've seen from other bloggers, you don't have much of a chance before the censor you. At least Brad allows opposite views to be heard as long as the poster is honest and and does not attack other posters on a personal level.

Yep, that was my experience at the RNC site...I thought, "great, I will politely educate the sheep" but no, my posts somehow never appeared after I sent them. Reminds me, last fall because I am a small business owner I guess, the RNC must think I am small-minded and love the GOP so they sent me a nice Busy Cheney 2004 card, number, and everything. Instead of infiltrating I went with my gut and called up to tell them "get me off your %$#@*& list" and gave a few well chosen comments. I wonder it they'll "let me back in?" I imagine they'd take about anybody right now...

By honest I was refering to those who post under more than one name to carry on an argument with themselves or make it seem like there are more people than there really are pushing a particular view or argument.
Beyond that it would be hard to decern if someone is honest.

I respectfully disagree with you there, Bluebear2: In my opinion it's pretty easy to tell whether people are honest.
Honest people don't contradict themselves and then deny it. And when they make a mistake, they admit it. There are some other ways you can tell, but these are two of the most obvious things that set honest posters apart from the others.

The thing that's irking me recently is that despite all the news about Diebold, Delay and Rove (not to mention the steady stream of other interesting things) that the mainstream news media (MSM) are talking about Zarqawi and the insurgents in Iraq more and more as Al Qaeda. Today they announced the military had found a letter from Zawahiri (Bin Laden's right-hand man in Al Qaeda) to Zarqawi. Now, I'm open to the idea they are cooperating, but this sounds soooo manufactured. In conjunction with the clearly fake terror alerts (D.C. and NYC) and the nomination of Harriet "Bush's puppy" Miers to the USSC it all reeks of fear and Rovian tactics to protect Dubya and himself.
Has anybody else noticed this trend in the media?

Damn, will I ever get back to my life. I get on this site and the hours fly by. My desk is so cluttered with notes I can't find anything..ohmigod.
#3 I just started reading a book (while in the Dr.'s office, away from this computer) called "The Rise of the Vulcans" by James Mann. I did not know that is what the war cabinet called themselves. I am still amazed with the synchronization I keep encountering here.
#16 Jeff..indeed, you are talking about fractals. (Chaos theory...the point being that there is 'Order in Chaos' ie: mandelbrot set, julia set, etc, etc. etc.) Blows the theory out that we evolved from a chaotic (mundane meaning) event when you see (from new science) creation was based on math which translate into Sound. (A quote I often say...in the beginning was the word (sound) and the word was God.) That subject is one unto itself. Very much New Science, as is the whole holographic universive, parallel universe stuff ie: Sheldrake, Talbot, Wolf.
#20 Mosie, I had never blogged until 2 months ago, my problem is I keep going off topic but so far everyone here has tolerated me. Welcome from another newbie. This is my favorite blog because being new, I find it easy to navigate and I am not computer friendly. Brad and the others keep us informed on what is going on.
#23 Davek I, for one, do not do the Merry Sunshine Media anymore. I cannot tolerate all the 'entertaining news' I quit reading my local paper when I found Brad. (g). Brad and I have coffee together every morning, sometimes all day
and into the night. I love Brad.
Now I will get back ON topic. I have noticed lately that the thief has been giving pretty regular talks. This from an occupant in our house that never gave press conferences. Not to say these are conferences since he doesn't dare answer any questions) guess I should call them speeches. His 'War on Terror' speeches are coming almost weekly. Then there is the "I am responsible" jargon. What's up with that. Since when is he responsible( remember he couldn't remember anything he had ever done wrong during the debates). Ohmigod, he is taking responsibility, he must be GOOD. ROFLMAO.
I think all you optimists out there are onto something. He is trying to change his message to appeal to his obvious shrinking 'base'. All his cronies are falling and even his speehwriters are having a time trying to figure out how to seperate who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. (whispering..they keep giving us these secret messages, are they for 'im or agianst 'im, hmmm). M4 (wishing I knew how to better emulate bushspeak)
P.S. Wonder if our employees in 'our house' ever have coffee with Brad?

Last night on the PBS show "Now" Kurt Vonnegut was interviewed. During the interview he stopped, pulled out a piece of paper and read a message specificaly addressed to George Bush. It called for his impeachment.
Later, after blasting the people in charge of the administration - pointing out that others pull Bush's strings - he pulled out another piece of paper and read the Beatitudes. "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.... etc."
I will post his message to bush later at this thread after I transcribe it. Later today or tommorrow morning.
The whole interview was rather shocking. Kurt doesn't give the human race or this planet much hope at all. Says we are a virus which has failed.
Points to all the wars and ways people have mistreated others since the beginning and how we havent learned anything.
Stay tuned for more......

KURT VONNEGUT'S LETTER TO GEORGE BUSH:
"I am an elder in this the greatest Democracy in the history of the world. I will be 83 in November. I am a member of what has been called the Greatest Generation. I am a combat infantry veteran with a Puple Heart and a Battle Star and I now want to put my President on notice and I'm talking about IMPEACHMENT!
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
If he commits oral sex in the oval office, and I don't care with whom, that will be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
OUT HE GOES!
There. I've thrown down the gauntlet! If that be treason, make the most of it!"
(Emphasis by Kurt)
This is from last nights PBS show "NOW"
The moderator then asked what he meant by the oral sex item. Kurt explaind that it seemed to be the only thing left that would cause an impeachment. (This comment was not specific to Bush, but rather to politicians in general)
He also went on to say we have a 2 party system. The winners and the losers. The winners are made of two groups. The Republicans and the Democrats. The losers are the rest of us.
In reference to Kurt's war record - he was a Prisoner of war in Dresden Germany, WW II, during the bombing which turned the entire city into a fire ball. The prisoners were held underground in cellars and were among the few who survived. Kurt's book Slaughterhouse 5 was based partialy on his experiences during the war. Slaughterhouse 5 is the building in which he was held.
