Bush, Rumsfeldt, Cheney, do NOT CARE it is not their son or daughter !
It is a short matter of time when a draft is called for, then all of you who are so brave will be called on to put up or shut up. Lets see how much a war is worth when it is your blood.

TexasLady,
I can't speak for anyone else, but it sure as heck isn't worth MY blood!
However, we may want to see what happens with Sen. Konrad's (sp?) idea of a huge profit windfalls tax on the oil companies.
If the profit monies from this expedition were given back to the people in the form of:
- Tax cuts for the middle class
- Increase in services (Medicare, Medicaid, SS especially)
- Recovering from Katrina and other natural disasters
- Preparing for the next natural disaster/terrorist strike/influenza pandemic/etc. in advance
- Restoring environmental protections
Then, I might feel a little better about 1900 Americans who are no longer with us.
But either way, it would still be a far cry from a "Noble Cause."

Mrbluesky, I have to be angry because I would cry otherwise. And tears do not fix the problem.
No one should bury their child, for a government's greed, that is sacriligeous.
Every reason given for this invasion of two countries is suspicious. Osama, no where to be found and passed off by Condi as no longer important.
Iraq, well we have to rebuild what we have destroyed deposing a cruel dictator. Oh and by the way to protect the military bases we built while deposing Saddam. Now why did we need bases to just go in and out.
Well, I feel sorry for New Orleans because with Rove in charge of rebuilding...looking at the history of Afganistan and Iraq, gonna be a long while and lots of money.
Oh as for a dictator...we need to check our own government, before "cleaning" another countries house. When Rove can make a phone call and have a lawyer fired from a state job for answering a question...something sure stinks right here at home.

Too sickening for words. I pray for the troops every day. But they woudn't be there if Bush and Blair hadn't "fixed" the intelligence. These are the people our lives and our world, our planet, is being entrusted to.
I guess imperial dreams die hard. The harder they die, the more we suffer.

Why do you think we hate America?
It is our love of this country that causes us to question actions by the government which degrade our standing in the world, damage our environment, yield benefits for a few at the expense of the remainder, reduce the freedoms that so many have died for in the past, cast a blind eye to the lessons of the past and fail to plan for the future.
To blindly follow and parrot a leader is not freedom, it is servitude.
The great men and women who founded this country would never stand for blindly serving.
Take a history lesson please.

Americans need to be reminded how very much this false war is costing in lives. The media has been bought and sold. Never before in history has an administration been able to keep the cost in lives from the public as it does now.
Our "beautiful minds and eyes," (Barbara Bush) need to be shocked, we need to feel the pain that the families do when they bury their young son or daughter. Then maybe, enough of us, will stand with Cindy and say NO MORE !

Bluebear2 - When I found that industry started controlling what information the public was allowed to have, when authors were censored about what they wrote...this was unbelivable to me.
I agree with Dan Rather, The Washington Post is not the same anymore, nor is any other publication. The Editors have no standards.
Rather's reporting on Bush's National Guard record, although the memo might not have been real, the story sure was. A Captain at the base when Dan Bartlett and Karen Hughes came in, back when Bush was going for Governor, saw the purging of the files, saw the files in a garbage can outside.
He related what happened to him after questioning this. Lost his medical benefits among other things.
We are in a very frightening time now...when our information becomes censored.

British Government's Agent Provocateurs Exposed
SOTT [Sign of the Times]
20/09/2005
"There is a saying of sorts that "if you are going to do something, do it well", and given the serious consequences, nowhere is that more true than when you plan to engage in criminal activity. Today in Basra, Southern Iraq, two members of the British SAS (Special Ops) were caught, 'in flagrante' as it were, dressed in full "Arab garb", driving a car full of explosives and shooting and killing two official Iraqi policemen..."
From the Washington Post
"Iraqi security officials on Monday variously accused the two Britons they detained of shooting at Iraqi forces or trying to plant explosives. Photographs of the two men in custody showed them in civilian clothes.
When British officials apparently sought to secure their release, riots erupted. Iraqi police cars circulated downtown, calling through loudspeakers for the public to help stop British forces from releasing the two...."

It is so frustrating to see people like Jimmo still exist in this world. It is more frustrating when they say things like leave the country if you do not agree with them, my ancestors as well as myself are native americans. It just makes me wish we had tougher immigration policies against idiots and their future generations that think they have the right to tell people to leave this country.
I feel for the mother, brothers, and family members of all these people that have died needlessly in Iraq. I wonder how people in this Administration sleep at night? If the draft were to come back I would never allow my two sons to tavel to far and distant lands, meet beautiful people from other cultures and beliefs and kill them. What is the point? How can we as a country just sit back and allow this to happen to our young people again. So many young people that do return are never the same physically and mentally.
Yeah Jimmo sign up--I betcha can't.

This story about the 2 British agents captured is definitely fishy, and the MSM is covering up something. This stuff is so obvious, after you learn to detect MSM stories that don't make sense, or major things are left out of them.
Another example is the "looters shooting at rescue workers" stories. I have been ranting about that, with really no backing, just because these stories simply don't make sense to me.
Well, I found this excellent cut-up of those stories, and I couldn't have put it better myself. I'm not patting myself on the back (well, yes I am!), but after a while of getting good at finding the real news, a by-product is that you instantly detect MSM BULLSHIT stories. MediaMatters also helps develop this ability.
Check out the MSM ever-changing looter-shooter stories below. I said, right off the bat, they're telling us that New Orleans resident who survived a cat-5 hurricane, are starving to death, and probably dying of some disease, ARE SHOOTING AT RESCUE WORKERS? I know it's a cover story for something else, but I'm not sure what. We'd all be sure if the MSM did it's job. Read below...
The Ever-Changing Danzinger Bridge Stories
These stories in the MSM instantly strike you as not making sense, then they change and/or drop off the face of the earth (see the 2 British agents story happening right before our eyes, see the Anthrax story, I can go on and on .... ).
Remember when the MSM actually UNCOVERED shenanigans, instead of helping cover them up? We are now doing this work.

I also read in the American Free Press (the only good newspaper in America), that the neo-cons' plan is to say that everything is going well in Iraq, begin a pullout, but only in order to attack Iran.
Things aren't going well in Iraq, but they will pullout anyway, to have enough troops to attack Iran. They will go through the motions of doing this, but will face stiff opposition, as there are many politicians who are against this, in light of this adminstration's handling and lies of the Iraq War, but they're going to try it. They have to.
Assholes like JIMMO should be on our side, against lying, dangerous politicians, regardless of party, but they are not independent thinkers.

By the way, what is there for looters to steal at the Danzinger bridge? Lots of stores and houses on a bridge, right? This story is BULLSHIT!!!
It makes sense that some government or government-condoned people were doing something they weren't supposed to be doing, and people saw them, so they shot at them. That's the only thing that makes sense to me, at this point in time. But, we'll never find out the real story from the MSM, who is actually there, but not investigating this.
A helicopter crashed? For no reason? And the reports differ on what type of helicopter and who was in the helicopter? COME ON!!!
And this isn't a big enough story for the MSM to investigate? COME ON!!!

To answer the original post question, "Do you feel safer yet?", NO, I don't.
Of course, where I live I have never really felt unsafe. I don't think the fanatical Muslims are out to blow up my home town. I think giving HSA monies to various places around the country is pretty much nonsense. There are only one or two targets for the Muslims who hate the Jews in Israel and their American supporters: New York and Washington, D.C. I wouldn't want to work in those places right now.
Gov. Dean was right when he said that getting rid of Saddam Hussein wouldn't make us feel safer.
Bush still hasn't caught Osama bin Laden or Zawahiri, so there is reason to be concerned.
But, OTOH, if al Qaeda is only an Amercan invention and bin Laden is perhaps still on CIA payroll, then who are we to be afraid of, the religious fanatics in the Middle-East or those in the White House (Bush & Co.)?
I don't think the Establishment really counted on the power of the Internet (thank Al!) to gather and understand information and to uncover stupid government operations and coverups.
British ops dressed as Arabs eh? What a hoot! Don't think of it as a disaster. Think of it as an opportunity.

The focus of Smith's memo, addressed to "Hon. Karl

"Immigration needs to be considered in the context of:

Smith is a member of the Subcommittee on Immigration,

Hello everyone, I see my friend Michael Scanlon is already here keeping all you wonderful people occupied.
I just wanted to make an announcement about my recent victory. Today, I introduced legislation which will ensure more Tax Cuts for all the rich and worthy americans in this country. The legislation, under House Rules, will go into affect after a nice house floor vote.
The purpose is to produce more jobs for overseas workers and immigrants, and end the poor inflation on the upper class. I'm very proud of this bill and I thought you would be too.
As my friend Medium Right or Michael Scanlon says, you all re-enforce the fact that I am the law and I make America a better place every day.
Now if you exscuse me, I need to go ahead and approve suspending the working class wage and Davis Bacon act. Afterward I plan on handing off another 200 billion to EXXON Mobil oil, who is giving me a great dividend on the stock.
Of course, in-between that I'll be going on a luxury cruise with Jack Abramoff and Edwin Meese III while I spend the deficit into the ether.
I'm not concerned about going to jail. Another billion dollars has been sent to my legal fund, so I can scrape away at the indictments the Justice Department is sending down my door.
I realize you all are proud of me, so I just thought I'd say "Hi!"
This truly is America. Please remember to frame the remains of the constitution under your beds, so I don't have to light a fire. Make all checks out and payable to: campaign@gop.com or congress@whitehouse.gov

No Place for a Poet at a Banquet of Shame
For reasons spelled out below, the poet Sharon Olds has declined to attend the National Book Festival in Washington, which, coincidentally or not, takes place September 24, the day of an antiwar mobilization in the capital.
Olds, winner of a National Book Critics Circle Award and professor of creative writing at New York University, was invited along with a number of other writers by First Lady Laura Bush to read from their works. Three years ago artist Jules Feiffer declined to attend the festival's White House breakfast as a protest against the Iraq War ("Mr. Feiffer Regrets," November 11, 2002). We suggest that invitees to this year's event consider following their example. --The Editors
Laura Bush
First Lady
The White House
Dear Mrs. Bush,
I am writing to let you know why I am not able to accept your kind invitation to give a presentation at the National Book Festival on September 24, or to attend your dinner at the Library of Congress or the breakfast at the White House. ....
..... But I could not face the idea of breaking bread with you. I knew that if I sat down to eat with you, it would feel to me as if I were condoning what I see to be the wild, highhanded actions of the Bush Administration. ... **READ MORE AT LINK**
This is a VERY POWERFUL PROTEST against the war in Iraq, and one that comes at a great SACRIFICE to Sharon Olds.
Thank you, Sharon Olds.

Doug: How long will the American people put up with this?
I blame the media a lot for this. You can see, that even when there's proof about something (Downing St., vote fraud, etc...), if the MSM isn't all over it, it's like it isn't happening. That is how the MSM is complicent in what's becoming of our country.
If there is a big anti-war movement going on, we wouldn't even know it, if the MSM isn't reporting it. And if there is, it will take 100x longer to catch on by word of mouth than by the MSM covering it.
Stories like those mentioned above, go nowhere, if the MSM drops them. If the MSM covered vote fraud, it would go away. So, in my opinion, the MSM is #1 or "co=#1" in any and all problems going on, by blacking out stories, putting out fake stories for partisans, or just giving a forum for liars on the air and not disputing them.
We're falling all over the MSM because they covered Katrina "better" than they've been covering things, but guess what? It only seems good because of how bad they've been. Yes, it's better, but they still stink. Watch them run with Iran stories, like they did with Iraq, when the neo-cons decide it's time to attack Iran.
The MSM stinks bad, and thank god for news on the internet. The MSM looks 10x worse, too, after really getting good at uncovering news on the internet.

Dan,
The corporate media is dead. Just face the facts. Besides a few people at CNN, its dead, and full of sniveling cowards.
The new media aka the blogs etc. has OUTPACED THEM SO BADLY, they are now basically irrelevant.
If more and more people come out and check online now, the corporate media will become completely irrelevant. Already most online sites generate around a million more hits than there are viewers of Fox News or MSNBC.
RAWSTORY's latest news on the Rove letter to congress etc. got snatched up by "Lou Dobbs" because RAWSTORY and the internet were there first.
Just wait. Besides CNN, there will be no more corporate media. They will be SHILLS and deserve nothing, while the new media takes over.
It won't matter at all if the corporate media covers it or not, EVERYONE will know about it just by going online.....same for the massive march. And then the corporates will be FORCED to cover the protests.
Starting with CNN, I predict REAL coverage of Sept. 25th and beyond including any and all hearings on Able Danger/Iraq war. I predict the corporate medias will follow the blogs and new media, NOT because they want to.....but because they have to.
One day these losers will get their spine back when the big interests dissapear, ala what Dan Rather said but it will be FROM US causing it. Not them.

Nice picture of Rummy. Have you heard that Baghdad Rummy, DC Rummy's counterpart, is said to have made the greatest theft in world history?
He stole 1-2 billion of your tax money. He is a lot like DC Rummy.
He was the defense minister who "operated" in Baghdad under American Army scrutiny.
I can't help but think he had to do some of that payola to American Officers. Hardcore (H...CDR) should know ... he's in Iraq? but posts here more than I do it seems. Whatever.
Meanwhile, as Brad pointed out, another Bu$hit money man was just arrested ... for guess what ... lying to the feds. Shit they all do that.
Hell I thought Gonzo Gonzales had fixed that so torture and lying were ok for this admin to do ...
Better Rush (druggie man) Roberts to the Supremes so he can wave the magic wand and make these crimes holy again bratman.
And the "hey it ain't global warming doing it" crowd is just mystified over two more hurricanes coming to visit.
And we have two more months to go. The Kyoto accords and the levees were neglected at the peril of the people.
I think I smell some promotions ...

Aren't the British Army and the Iraqi Police on the same side? No, the Iraqi Police in Basra are controlled by anti-occupation militia and take their orders from Shiite clerics. Last spring the Basra police chief was fired after he admitted that he had lost control of his 13000 strong force to Muslim militiamen.

The NYT reporter killed on the 19th was kidnapped by Iraqi police? I am wondering in light of Brit's posing are Arabs and all the deaths of journalists.

"A Gallup poll published on Monday found 66 percent of respondents favored the immediate withdrawal of some or all of the U.S. troops in Iraq, a 10 percentage point jump in two weeks.
Bush's personal approval on Iraq fell from 40 percent to 32 percent in the same period. In a CBS/New York Times poll the previous week, 75 percent said Bush had no clear plan for bringing U.S. troops home."

Haven't you heard, bluebear2??? The big conservative blogs have been explaining polls to their followers.
It seems that almost all polls are actually designed by liberals and only ask liberals for responses. So therefore, it is actually 32% if liberals support Bush on Iraq and virtually all conservatives. That would make him about the most popular president ever!
That explains it all!!! Why doesn't everyone link up to FOX NEWS and the CHRISTIAN COALITION for the facts?

#62 Kira, thanks for posting the info I read. I am trying to understand how to do links and I am so computer illiterate I make myself sick. I have written down all the info from the Help site but I will probably still bungle the whole process...and you will all know for sure I am a complete idiot! M4

Thank you, Sharon Olds #53 --- thank you, Kira, for the link. I don't know how you are going to do it, but the truly great citizens of America are going to turn the sinking ship "U.S.A." around, and head back to port for serious repairs and new captains --- VERY SOON!
