    – Canadian Marc Emmery – Leader of the Marijuana Party of Canada, and international seed seller now faces extradition TO THE U.S. and LIFE IMPRISONMENT!!!

I’ll take advantage of this open thread and point some attention to this story:

Canadian Marijuana Seed Distributer Faces U.S. Extradition

American reefer madness strikes again! This time, in Canada.

It will be interesting to follow this story. My guess is that the Canadian public will not allow this extradition to happen.

Hi again, folks! Looks like it’s gonna be a great show!!

re #4: I happen to disagree with you, SG. 😉 I hope I’m mis-reading the Canadian public but I don’t think they give a damn about Marc Emmery. Maybe they would if he was a hockey player instead of a seed dealer…

Please, Canadian friends! Prove me wrong on this one!

I don’t have much faith in Mississippi anyway. When I think of Mississippi, I think of Emmett Till, Mississippi Burning and the Lockheed Martin shooting by that racist prick a couple of years ago. Mississippi has a ways to go.

Very excited to be here!! It’s gonna be a perfect show, I feel it in my bones!! Hi everyone!!

The Diebold thing – the REAL problem is the Tabulators. All votes, paper, DRE, Optical Scan – all of them are counted on these Tabulators.

Several brands – GEMS (Diebold), ES&S, Triad – they’re all designed to be manipulated with NO TRACE left. No matter how our votes are cast, if we don’t get rid of these hackable Tabulators we’re doomed…

Brad can you ask Jim what kind of voting machines will be used in OH-2 for the special election on Tuesday?

I noticed Warren County is part of OH-2. Remember the fake terror threat last year they used to lock out the media while they "counted" votes.

Also, will Black Box voting monitor the OH-2 special election?

nonbeliever said on 7/30/2005 @ 1:33pm PT: [Permalink]

Jpentz, I hope he wins too. But that district is pretty conservative and I’m really concerned about how these votes will be counted.

I saw his opponent flip her wig on MSNBC when Dave Gregory asked her a tough question about her credibility. She started yelling at him, then she made sure to stay with the same talking points Bush had from his last speech. Fight them there so we don’t have to face them here. It was pathetic.

What’s perhaps even worse is that it’s not just the central tabulator that’s vulnerable. With at least the optical scanners (and possibly DREs too) it’s an executable program on the Memory Cards that can do all the damage–the scary thing being that this program can make simultaneous changes in both the central tabulator and the individual scanners at the same time–so they spit out identical (false) results.

And it’s maybe not just Diebold that has this "feature" – but so far only Ion Sancho in Fla has allowed BB folks access to the election equipment to demonstrate this. It’s possible that this Memory Card "feature" exists on Sequoia, ES&S, etc. as well.

Not that I know of so far. Things that don’t help:

    1) The Federal and State certification processes are a sham. Things have been certified that did not meet the most basic certification requirements. The rules are blatantly ignored.

    2) Election equipment must be evaluated in the context of the whole Election System in which it is used–e.g., how tight (or lax) are the custody of ballots or Memory Cards? Who is allowed access to the machines? Is this logged? What are the other points of vulnerability with any given piece of equipment. (Unfortunately, other than Ion Sancho election officials don’t want to look at these issues.)

    3) States just blatantly ignore their own laws and regulations, and they get away with this.

In light of these 3 big problems–not to mention the proven hackability of the equipment–Paper, Pen & People is a far safer option. While fraud is still possible, it would be limited to smaller-scale fraud. And even this possibility could be almost completely eliminated by having strict procedures in place.

    Who’s Reickoff? (really I don’t know)

Sorry they said there was very little time.

I wanted to get in a 2nd question, but unfortunately there wasn’t time–I wanted to get confirmation about another serious weirdness of the San Diego electionL:

Apparently the results of the tally were posted every 5 minutes, but strangely the candidates’ relative percentage of the vote stayed CONSTANT throughout the WHOLE DAY. Definitely not credible. If the front runner had gotten over 50% then there wouldn’t be a run-off election. But since she got about 42%, there will be a runoff. Do I trust this count? No I do not. Do I trust the accuracy of the runoff election? No I do not.

Catherine, I probably spelled his name wrong, but Reickoff is an Iraq war vet and founder of Operation Truth. He was on Brad’s show last week.

He was so used to being talked over by rightwing nutjobs on the talking head shows he did the same on Brad’s show.

Here’s a link showing you the kind of treatment Reickoff usually gets.

    Hey Winter

"Banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies." Thomas Jefferson

Maybe we should be somewhat concerned about our banking institutions as well, and credit unions! National credit unions entered into a huge security contract with Diebold in January of this year.

Coleen is right on about the fiscal irresponsibility of this administration — clearly not conservative. There’s an IV line between the U.S. Treasury (our tax dollars) and the military industrial complex…all at the expense of the public and our guys/gals on the front line.

THIEVES — TRAITORS all for a buck in the name of national security. Funny thing is I’m feeling far less secure with this administration in power every which way!

jIM cIRILE: sigh…look, as a legislator Bruce McPherson really did have a good rep for integrity and fair-mindedness. Which is why he breezed through confirmation in an all-Democrat-controlled legislature (both houses).

I don’t think Bruce is getting paid off. I *do* think he’s surrounding with some very bad advisors, starting with Brad Clark and Bob Wood. And that’s a huge problem.

But I don’t think payoffs are the issue with HIM. His underlings, well, some of ’em I wonder about…

Are there any statistics, comparing the timelines of the installation of electronic voting machines vs. the timeline of the Republicans gaining control of the House, Senate, presidency, and gubernatorial elections in recent years? How about I’ll take a wild guess: REPUBLICAN VICTORIES COINCIDE WITH AN INCREASE IN THE INSTALLATION OF ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINES!

How about I won’t even look it up! I’m right, without looking it up. Someone else look it up, I’m not wasting my time with something I already know.

Also, didn’t wasn’t Rossi’s % out of whack on electronic voting machines vs. non-electronic?

One of my problems is with the entire concept of Al Qaeda. It is too convenient and has certainly been used largely for political purposes. It is kind of a magnet around which all the insidious and criminal acts of the administration have been perpetrated. It may be an element of a "Big Lie". Dismantle and haul away the politics and what’s left? That’s what I would like to know. That’s what every American should know and never will as long as the neocons are in power.

WinterPatriot #77 – I agree, but maybe it’s too soon for colleen to take that big of a leap. She only just was able to admit the party’s not what she thought it was a few years ago. To get from there to where we are may take a few more years.

Kira #87 – black Crown Royal? Is that the name? I know what the cars look like ‘cuz when I saw Michael Moore a few years ago, the parking lot out back of the auditorium had about 4 of them parked back there and guys in black suits with sunglasses milling about. About 10 minutes ago, just after hearing "Greg’s" question (Brad knows him… so I think we may too!!!) for CR about Menendez and the 911 report, my internet (dialup) connection to the BradShow (winamp player via RawRadio) went completely dead, so I could not hear her reply…. haven’t been able to connect since then to listen to the show. I wasn’t having any problems before. I get connection unavailable (IP address looks like 216.66.69.100:8900, but it’s flashing by pretty quickly)

[2] recognize that we cannot get the neocon imperialists out of the White House until and unless we regain control of our electoral system

[3] recognize that we cannot regain control of our electoral system without applying massive consistent pressure … it’s gonna take millions of people in the streets and not just for one day

[4] realize that we cannot apply massive consistent pressure until and unless we can start getting our message out a lot better than the imperialists do … and that’s gonna be HARD WORK!!

I can’t listen and post, too. Dialup is just too slow. Can only do it by turning the radio off, posting, then connecting again. Oh, well. (Everything was fine at IBC.)

Mr. Conetta is naive, I believe, in calling the neocons really "neo-liberals". (I’m not entirely comfortable with neo-conservative either.) They are not interested in a free market, as I believe he said. There is no free market in their world. There is only a small group of major corporations and a ruling class engaged in what was used to be called "social Darwinism" and conquest. The democratic element that developed as essential to liberalism is also missing. "Free market", "neo-liberalism", democracy — It’s phony. Call it what it is – imperial colonialism and , as WP says, conquest.

    Peg C,

Try fiddling with your modem setup. Go to control panel via Start button (or however), then select/ go to phone and modem connections. When this new window shows up, click on the modem tab, and in the next window click on the properties tab. This will show you your modem properties. In this properties window, click on the Advanced tab. When this advanced window opens, type AT&F1 into the extra initialization box, apply, etc. This command turns off error checking (??? or something like that) and may make the connection go faster.

In February 2002 top economic officials met to discuss corporate governance and the state of the American economic system. The Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan, shared his view that there were fundamental problems with corporate governance in America in how corporations and executives have been manipulating the system for the past 20 years. Others in the room tried to downplay his concerns. Dr. Greenspan would make this point:

"There’s been too much gaming of the system until its broke. Capitalism is not working! There has been a corrupting of the system of capitalism!"
    – Dr. Alan Greenspan – Chairman of the Federal Reserve, February 22, 2002

Brad’s guest in the final hour will be PATRICIA BIRNIE of the "Tuscon Raging Grannies", who will tell us all about how she and other grannies were arrested for trying to enlist in the Army!

According to their website, the Raging Grannies "use tunes of old songs and write lyrics to fit."

They sound like the kind of people BradBloggers will love, especially Joan and Kira! 😉 Here’s a sample of their work:

    NO BUSINESS LIKE WAR BUSINESS

There’s no business like war business
    The worst business we know
Never mind the homeless and the hungry,
Never mind the people without jobs
Nowhere can you get that special feeling
Than when you’re – piling up the bombs.

There’s no business like war business
    The best business we know
Multinational profits going through the sky
    They multiply while children die
The same amount buys food and clothes
For everyone all over the world.

    http://www.americanfreepress.ne...onspiracy.html

American Free Press WEEKLY has the story of William Rodriguez. He and attorney Phil Berg

    http://www.911forthetruth.com

have a RICO lawsuit against Bush, for either knowingly letting 9/11 happen or being complicent in it.

William Rodriguez and Phil Berg and AFP went on a European speaking tour this year, because they said the American MSM has a blackout on this story, and they thought the European press would be receptive to it. Now, William Rodriguez is speaking across America about his story.

William Rodriguez was one of a handful of people who had a skeleton key for the WTC complex. He was a maintenance worker, and was the last one out, saved many people’s lives, and risked his own, disobeying orders to leave the WTC. He and 14 other witnesses had their testimony stricken from the 9/11 Report, where they testified that they were in the WTC when bombs went off BEFORE the planes struck the WTC.

Give him and AFP some respect, and talk about this story. AFP covered Clint Curtis in several issues, when no other paper covered the Clint Curtis story.

If it’s the caller I’m thinking of who called himself "George" — unless I heard wrong — I’d say No. Unless I’m not on the same page with you … am I?

The caller said he campaigned for bu$h in 2000 & 2004.

I am not talking about the guy "George" you were asking about in #87. I am talking about the guy, whose name I thought was "Greg" ???? who phoned in and asked Coleen Rowley about the 9-11 report and Menendez. I lost the radio link just at that very point and didn’t hear anything… sooo??? See VG #105.

Has anyone seen the FBI Memo Newsweek has written about? (link here)

Evidently some in the FBI felt that sending people to countries that torture so those people would be tortured is illegal and could get prison terms for those doing it or conspiring to do it.

Imagine that … the FBI talking about criminal conspiracies!

  88. 215)
Kira said on 7/31/2005 @ 8:38am PT: [Permalink]

Well — will this go anywhere? Notice they are continuing to add disclaimers to these stories:

"A senior FBI official, who asked not to be identified because the issue is sensitive, said the memo was not an official bureau legal conclusion. Its author was at Gitmo to advise on interrogation techniques, not to render legal opinions, the official said. (The memo’s author, a former New York City prosecutor, declined to comment to NEWSWEEK.)"

    However:

"… another senior U.S. law-enforcement official familiar with the memo, who also asked not to be identified, said the memo reflects concerns among many agents and lawyers about "rendition." Intel officials estimate that more than 100 terror suspects have been rendered to foreign countries by the CIA under a classified directive signed by President George W. Bush after 9/11."

So — we can only hope the mountain of crap will soon begin to stink enough to cause notice.

Our (gradually reduced) presence in Iraq will be required for the next five to ten years. There is a philosophy that militaries in democracies must adopt. A military force must understand itself to be a tool of the state, subjected to civilian power. The Iraqi military cannot be abandoned until we ensure that they have the necessary institutional ethos of protecting civilian power. An alternative to anarchy could also be a military coup by a self-perceived independent actor.

On the other hand, it seems the media is getting bored with Bush’s resolve. The topic of a troop withdrawal may be just that – a way to stir the pot.

I hope this isn’t just wishful thinking on my part. I hope there are people that understand the consequences of an early withdrawal, and will withstand the mounting pressure of shortsightedness.

    Brad,

I forgot to say this before, but thanks for another great BradShow. You managed to line up a really interesting roster of folks, and the show gave me the opportunity to hear information that I would not have found elsewhere. A few "coups", I’d say. Everyone you spoke with was so articulate, and you did a great job as the interviewer, bringing out their views. I didn’t agree with some of the viewpoints expressed by a couple of the interviewees, but it is so valuable to hear the differing personal perspectives on critical and timely issues.

    Thanks, VG

I love our troops, that’s why I want them home. They are cannon-fodder for the New World Order, and they don’t know it. Well, some of them are beginning to realize it. Our founding fathers are turning over in their graves, with the Bush Administration’s use of our military. Disgusting, absolutely disgusting! In Farenheit 9-11, didn’t Michael Moore say there was 1 single child of Congress in the military? And they’re sending OUR kids for cannon-fodder for THEIR New World Order? It’s got to stop!

  95. 224)
Robert Lockwood Mills said on 8/1/2005 @ 9:02am PT: [Permalink]

From what I’m reading, recruitment has fallen off so badly that Bush and Rummy have no choice but to cut back troop levels in Iraq. They’ll justify it (not that bringing soldiers home should need any justification) by saying, "Iraqis are being trained in sufficient numbers to defend their own country against insurgents." Not true, of course…but when has the truth mattered to this crowd?

It’s not a matter of policy at this point, but of mathematical necessity. The propaganda from the Pentagon will remind us of Vietnam, and Nixon’s
    "Vietnamization" rationales.
