In today’s LA Times, Juliette Kayyem — a former member of the National Commission on Terrorism — speaks about the Administration’s “rebranding” of Bush’s failed “Global War on Terror”.
In case you haven’t heard, it’s no longer a “war”, it’s now the “Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism” according to the latest nuance from the Bushies who are — as they always have been — more concerned with poll numbers and good P.R. than about National Security and keeping this country safe.
As we previously saw the color-coded “Terror Alert” system cynically manipulated to keep American’s frightened prior to the election (and then go virtually unchanged ever since), Kayyem also points out the change in pre/post-Election usage of the word “war” by the dangerous and unrepentant opportunistic Chickenhawks in the White House:
Even in his last publicized news conference, there was no GWOT, and the term “war” was mentioned only once. In contrast, Bush used the d-word (diplomatic or diplomatically) nearly a dozen times.
Looks like the Administration has gone downright “French” on us. What a bunch of girlie-men! It’s almost as if John Kerry and those advocating “nuance” and “diplomacy” prior to the Election were right or something! As if they didn’t actually “hate America” after all! What next for this White House? “Preparing indictments” like those “soft on terror” Liberals?
Kayyem closes with the obvious. Though clearly, it still requires repeating to get through the noise…

Subj: Dog Trainer
I’d like to thank the LA Times from waking up from their coma. This "new term" was reported two months ago.
Memo to Harry Shearer of LeShow: The "Dog Trainer" pieces need to continue.
A "war" can be won or lost. Apparently they see this one as only losable, so they’re changing it’s name to "struggle". you can walk away from a struggle or keep it going forever without anyone even noticing, much like the "war on drugs" or the "war on poverty" and so on.
Remember though, violent extremism in the name of liberty is no vice. Didn’t Goldwater say something like that? Does Bushy want to take on Barry?
Yes, the press is a scandal in itself. They ought to be embarassed by collecting checks for not doing a thing for America.
I wonder if it really was Judy Miller who got the info. on Plame and passed the word around to her journo colleagues. Do ya figure the admin wanted her to get that info to spread? Do ya figure the admin is still guilty of treason? Seems like it.
Could this backfire on the administration? They keep justifying their misdeeds by claiming that the rules are different during a time of war. If we are not at war, shouldn’t all of their programs be cut back (such as their efforts to subvert FOIA requests)?
Just how much of the "War on Terror" was the "War in Iraq" or the "War in Afghanistan"?
Aaaaagh! It’s all the same. It was an illegal invasion of a sovereign nation based on lies. It’s robbery, it’s massacre.
So, "War on Terror", "Struggle against violent extremism" – Where was the "War on Terror" anyway? Certainly not Iraq. So, we kill a hundred thousand civilians or so, and it is now a "struggle against violent extremism".
A pox on all the murderous hypocrites.
I’ve been lurking here for months and never felt that I had much to add to the discussion. But now I do. Am I the only one to notice the acronym SAVE in Struggle Against Violent Extremism? It seems so much better, I guess, than WOT (Wot the . . . fill in your own preference, like, perhaps, heck are we doing here anyway).
So? Is it now official?
—-Oh, bush is now a "Struggle pResident", Oh good!
Sitting in the Oval with "Struggle" on his mind.
Just in time for his month vacation, getting back to Crawford, signing a few execution docs, blasting a few frogs, the Struggle must go on.
W is the master of violent extremism. So he is an expert on that for sure.
What it is shall be determined by what is done.
An invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation based upon lies is just that.
No more no less.
It is beginning to look like the reincarnation of the worst of the KGB has occurred right before our eyes.
The only thing that tops that is the reincarnation of the german press into the MSM. Remember that they were/are the ones who put flowers on the path in front of the fascists as they marched "forward".
I posted on Randi’s board a couple of days that "struggle" in arabic is Jihad, so now we are waging Jihad on the Jihadist. Randi pointed this out too, and also mentioned that in german, "struggle" is "Kampf" As in "Mein Kampf". She hoped that Bush would be writing about his struggle just as Hitler did… in JAIL!
