Shouldn't this really be titled
"John Conyers closes in on half a Million Signatures...."
MoveOn and others have certainly promoted this petition drive, and great kudos are due for these efforts. But this is Conyers petition, and it does not seem appropriate to credit others in any but a support role.

Impressive numbers. But "M" is right. Conyers gets the credit. MoveOn gets thanks for delivering the message electronically.
And where has MoveOn been since Nov. 2 about the stolen election they sent us around the country to prevent?

re the second part of #2: I concur (sorry, MoveOn.org!)
In fact ... they sent me some e-mail the other day asking me to participate in their survey ... and I did ... they had a list of about a dozen issue categories ... wanted to know which ones were most important to me ... election reform was not on the list ... so I didn't check any of the boxes ... and in the "comments" area where it said "what do you think of moveon.org?" I said: "ignores the urgent need for election reform" ... then it said "where do you see moveon.org in 10 years?" and I said "either leading the pro-democracy movement or else irrelevant" ... how many comments like this do they need to see? ... and why does it appear to be more than 6 or 7?
Anyway: "Coiners" rocks and so does Brad. But I've changed the headline because M rocks too and so does Bob. Me, I don't exactly rock but I do wobble from side to side once in a while.

Yay! I was one of the first to sign on the first day, and have passed it on to many. This is wonderful news, and yes, credit goes to the fantabulous Conyers!!!
Thanks Brad for all you do. You, too, Winter Patriot, and everyone else here.

I think the people at MoveOn are sincere. But they think just like the DNC...the election is behind us, too bad, but now let's go after the Republicans on
Social Security, judges, the Patriot Act, whatever.
Hillary Clinton takes it a step further. The election is behind us, Bill says Bush won "fair and square," so let's form alliances that can help us win in 2008. Oh, and send money. Lots of money.
No to MoveOn, no to the DNC, and no to Hillary. You don't fight crooks with words...that's like trying to prevent burglars from entering your house by putting up "No Trespassing" signs.

Yes, the credit goes to Conyers for leadership, being aware of what's going on and acting on behalf of the American people.
HOWEVER, if all of America sat back watching Michael Jackson, leaving all the concern and effort to Mr. Conyers, then Mr. Conyers is doomed to failure. Either the American people want a true democracy and a say in how their country is run and by whom, or they can watch mindless TV. So, if the AMERICAN PEOPLE RESPOND to the leadership effort by Mr. Conyers and sign his letter, then the American people TOO need to be applauded, and I applaud everyone who signs. THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING! What level of decency do the American people aspire to, OR NOT?

I respectfully must disagree with Winter Patriot's decision to change the headline from "MoveOn Closes in..." to "John Conyers Closes in..." for two reasons. (And so, I will be changing the headline back to "MoveOn Closes in...)
While MoveOn has been dreadfully delinquent in the battle for Election Reform and the battle to investigate Election 2004, and indeed late to the Downing Street Minutes business, we strive for accuracy here. And the fact of the matter is, I was reporting on MoveOn's less-than-24 hour effort, which had reached 411,000 by 3am last night. It's now up to nearly 450,000. Thems the facts.
Additionally, making the headline "John Conyers Closes in..." makes the headline factually incorrect. If you're assuming that MoveOn's signatures are his, then when you combine MoveOn's and the ones JC has already received via his own website, he was, by then, well *over* half a million.
All of your hearts are in the right place, of course. But don't get carried away by them in lieu of actual FACTS.
Got that, WP?

Good thing MoveOn joined the charge. But not a good sign they entered so late in the game. And their no-show with the stolen election? What are they afraid of? Seems like they need to drop some suits and bring in some sandals.

Ay Chihuahua.... Is them really the facts!? In around a 24 hour stint the numbers jumped 450,000 from the MoveOn folks mail lists! A true revolution in the way America does politics is actually exploding before our very eyes..., that is what they refer to as history in the making.
Any chance Brad that the email lists of Kerry, Kennedy, Boxer, Actforchange, and oh yes, the DNC are going to be tapped in the next 24 hours or so as well.... Oh indeed, the 4th branch of US Government - the "We the People" branch - will have suddenly come alive. So, tell me..., any chance you, Brad, Mr. Conyers or anyone else of the 6 or 7 here is calling their buds in those other systems and getting the rest of the pissed off Demo party on board?
Oh, and I could give a rats ass whether it's Coiners, Conyers, MoveOn's or Wally the Whale's that is closing in. This is just to awesome but to do anything except cheer and start getting more and more pissed off Demos to join the charge.
Love it Brad! Keep us posted on those numbers!!

re #9 Thanks for the clarification ... I hadn't understood that the numbers you were quoting were for MoveOn.org only. This makes it even more impressive, really.
WELL OVER half a million and still climbing. Too cool!
Thanks for your patience here, Brad. I will never change a headline on you again!

Does anybody know if Moveon.org is being very careful to check Isp/Ip addys like Conyers' staff is doing? I haven't heard them say so.
I really hope they're watching out for the spamming hankie-jimmoes out who already assured us he/they are working overtime signing with micky mouse names.
Oh --- MOVEON.ORG --- Way to Go!! Y'all Really ROCK! Thank You.

KIRA #14 That might splain why the Jimmys/Praetorian's/GeneK's/Mananana's etc are absent (in mind and in presence) around these parts?
I'd bet my left testicle on the Moveon.org count being more secure and accurate than a Diebold AccuVote-TSX™ count!

Frankly, I'm pretty pissed off at Move On.
Great, they came on board the DSM. A month late.
With their enormous mailing list, they could have broadcast the stolen election and the resultant hue and cry would have been so massive that we could actually have stopped Bush II: the second coming.
They finally sent out e-mails the DAY BEFORE the hearings to seat the electors in January, and the enormous response persuaded Boxer to stand up.
Just imagine what they could have done if they REALLY TRIED.
And what about John Kerry? Over 3 million supposedly on his mailing list. Dead silence on the stolen election. Dead silence on the DSM. Outrageous.
Here's an idea: anybody out there able to get ahold of Move On or John Kerry's e-mail list? I have a few ideas for what to do with it.

I'm disappointed in MoveOn, too, but I can testify to their honesty. If they claim 478,000 signatures, that's an accurate figure...notwithstanding the troll who proclaimed 1/3 of the votes were duplicates.
I know MoveOn is honest, because I accidentally voted twice on petition, having forgotten an earlier vote among the many I've cast. The computer immediately rejected the vote, saying "Our records show you have already cast a vote."

Air America's Mike Malloy told his audience last night that George Bush and "his sleazy cohorts orchestrated" what happened on 9/11 and that the 19 hijackers were only a "cover story." He said that some of the 19 hijackers were still alive and "pop up" in Egypt and Jordan "buying fresh herbs" before disappearing again.

The only thing that will get Moveon.Org off the ground is when the government starts drafting young folks into the military for use as cannon fodder. Otherwise, I expect the youth vote (ages 18 - 25) to remain at the dismal turnout of about 18%. This abysmal turnout was the same for both 2000 & 2004 elections, despite the wails of the Dems.
I predicted before the Iraq invasion that such a decision would cost 150,000 American lives. So far, we've had virtually no losses, but it's coming. Stay tuned for a draft. We'll need it. FDR started a war to get us out of depression, & he is still worshipped as a God to this day.
GWB will no doubt follow in his footsteps with the same result, regardless of a few crying Dems, who no one listens to.

"Buckshot" How can you possibly compare WWII with this? You think FDR was more concerned with commerce than preventing the almost certain anniliation of Jews, Gypsies, Gays, the mentally retarded and basically anyone that didn't have that blonde Aryan look.
Sounds like that good old Republican logic to me.
