Diebold was the only certified machine for our county to choose! WHY?!?!
They chose to get one for every precinct, but they say a paper receipt will be given...

The most important thing to getting election results correct is WHO IS DOING THE COUNTING. Fancy laws etc. don't make any difference.

Florida and Ohio should be treated as crime scenes. It is there that democracy was murdered in cold blood. The truth must break the republicans twisted grip on our beautiful country. George Bush is destroying the United States! This show and others like it must get into the mainstream and educate people as to what is REALLY going on!
Keep up the good work of truth!!

The point is, in the abscense of "fancy laws", we have no way to "force" making sure things are done in a reasonable context.
And I disagree that "who counts" determines correct results, I think that no matter -who- counts, if -anyone- can audit something at any ponit where things look a bit fishy, you force -everyone- who might be counting to be very careful. By putting in audit controls (random hand verification of 20% of all voting machines, for example) you reduce the likelyhood of 'fraud'.
Fancy laws could also 'force' a full investigation when you end up with a candidate getting NEGATIVE vote counts.. how does that happen? how is the -entire- system not immidiately questioned? If someone was going to prison for "not adhering to the law and starting an investigation" when that happened, you better believe someone would have said something, no matter what "side" they were on.

I agree Florida and Ohio were crime scenes. But I think it's less accusatory, and more likely to draw public attention from moderates (and offical action from public officials) if we said it like this:
"The burden of proof is not on so-called conspiracy theorists to prove the last two elections were decided by fraud. The burden of proof is on public officials to prove they were not, because statistical evidence in the form of exit polling and anecdotal evidence in the form of vote-flipping testimonials and voter suppression incidents strongly suggest that fraud on a large scale did in fact occur."
