As Josh Marshall notes, in his must-read take on the video clips at right from a McCain rally yesterday, it’s “Weird. Sad. Surreal.”
“There’s something else to note too,” writes Marshall. “Over the last 48 hours several name brand Republicans have come out and either chided or denounced McCain’s borderline incitement. And given how taboo it is to level such criticism of your own nominee at this stage of the election you have to assume these criticisms were only the tip of the iceberg, with a far more intense and angry barrage of criticism voiced privately.”
“[L]look at the facial expressions. McCain looks down as he says it and has the countenance of someone who been forced to tell someone else they’re sorry,” he continues.
“I get from his expression a sense of a man that is, in addition to all the other things he’s angry about, is frustrated or angry at the situation he’s gotten himself into. But he has sown the wind and now he’s reaping the whirlwind.”

This is a random thought that kind of relates, because it is about one of the current smear tactics.
I have been wondering why, if Ayers was guilty of several bomb attacks, why was he a free man? This quote from wikipedia tells you all you need to know, “He is the son of Thomas G. Ayers, former Chairman and CEO of Commonwealth Edison (1973 to 1980)”. The wealthy and powerful can always have a chance at redemption and forgiveness.
Obama worked with him as an honored “Citizen of the Year” and an educator, not as a terrorist. I sincerely doubt, that after all of this publicity that Ayers would be considered for any post in an Obama government. Obama is not that stupid. He is liberal, but definitely not communist. His health care proposal is very insurance company friendly.
How odd that our current administration, the so-called small government party, is about to start nationalizing our banks. Whose the communist now?
And while I am randomizing on democracy, how is it that voters overwhelmingly did not want their legislators to pass the bailout bill, but without even having time to read all of it or think about it or process it, they did? I hate to say it, but it really seems like what we voters think is irrelevant. All of the rest of this seems like pure theater.
I’m sorry for being depressing. Brad and all of the election integrity workers are the greatest patriots of our lifetime. If we ever get to live in a democracy again, it will be because of them.
I can understand the crack that McShameless got himself wedged in. Rove probably told him “Unless you cut it out, the backlash is going to be so big – (we DO still have some decent people left in the Party) – that I won’t be able to steal the election for you!”
Watching these videos, you start to get the feeling that even McCain might be starting to wonder, “What kind of monster have I created?” I wonder if McCain, when he is alone and being reflective, asks himself, “Are these people really supporting me because I have good policies, or because they’re racists, bigots, terrified because I have made them terrified because of what I’ve allowed to be said about Obama on my behalf, etc.” I wonder if deep down McCain isn’t just a bit saddened by what his supporters are doing and saying. http://straighttalkonmccain.blogspot.com/
