I had written to my Senators and my Congressman last night. A furious letter based on the one , I believe it was Torqued posted. I said in caps IMPEACH THIS MURDERING PRESIDENT AND ALL OF HIS ADMINISTRATION.
I wrote to Hillary and asked what an "Independent" commission like the 9/11 commission was going to do, especially since the 911 comission was a sham.

I thought that America would call for the resignation of the entire administration after Katrina. I think that is the only option. That or Fitzgerald indigting them all. Impeachment does nothing. Cut off one head, another appears. Plus, of course, the Pubs will never go along with it anyway.
America does not seem to be in a mood to call for resignation by the Bush administration. According to Gallup, they don't even want resignations in Fema. So our trail of tears will continue. It seems that the chain of disasters will continue, as will the ongoing drum beat of domestic legislation geared to corporatist and big money interests. Some are so heinous that it is positively shocking. Someone commented over at Conyers blog that the new bankruptcy bill gives credit card companies the unbelievable power not only to raise interest rates as high as 39 percent (might as well make it a pound of flesh), but to do so for all cards at the same time, based on as little as one late payment.
Yes, it looks like our trail of tears will continue. One disaster after another, one evil little bill after another. I thought that losing an American city in a preventable tragedy would be the moment America would stand up. I keep thinking "an entire American city".
If even that doesn't make a dent, I guess I have to say that I feel about as close to the half of my fellow citizens who seem willing to excuse almost anything this administration does or doesn't do as I do to - well, not very close. I don't know if I can recall a time when America seemed like such a sad and lonely place.

I am just at my wit's end as to how we can get these thieving, murduring people out of office. Impeachment will never happen so that is out.
The only other option I can think of is for everyone to bombard their offices with letters, phone calls, and E-mails asking them to do the honorable thing and resign.
I've already sent letters to Bush & Cheney asking for their resignation. The simple message was Resign now!! Last week I sent one to one of my senators asking to have Brown and Chertoff fired and Bush impeached.
This country has been destroyed by Bush and his cronies and it simply must be stopped. On the slim hope it just might work it would be great if everyone communited to all of them that they need to step down. Wouldn't you think it might be a bit depressing to know that millions despise you enough that they are asking for your resignation?

Impeachment is simple. First begin rallying call for the impeachments, do mass protests and civil disobedience and get through the corporate media echo chamber
Easier way to do this: Force corporate media like CNN to run an impeachment poll, for all those in favor and against it. Eliminate the use of polls like Rasmussen/Gallup which do not tell anyone what america is really thinking.
Once the message is out there, and clear as day organize events just like the september 24th calling.
Call always for their constant resignation and telephone/hackle the corporate media until they call for their resignation. Anything else is not acceptable, polls about resignation/impeachment must begin immediately.
Finally, turn everything loose every bit of evidence there is against Delay and Hastert. They must back off and resign. Get the echo chamber flailing on them 24/7. You HAVE to get the guards out of the henhouse to have impeachment.
That is the message which everyone needs to get, no more bullshit saying "nothing can be done anyway". It doesn't even matter if NOTHING is done for a while, the CALL for impeachment must be there and CONSTANT. So must it be for resignation, and the firing of those officials who enable the corruption.
Remember, this is a CONSTANT war not one side of an issue only to move on to the next. Next week, Congress is meeting with the International Affairs Committee about the seriousness of the downing street minutes and how many laws are violated as well as impeachable offenses.
This is the way it is, and the evidence is being presented. The U.N. does not take the blame for the Oil scandal which involved crooked US politicians, and several members of the U.N. to take oil for food. Many of these politicians are well known dem/repub and this is not a simple issue.
It doesn't even matter if we do not see impeachments until 2006 or taking back the house, WE CAN NOT WAIT AND WE CAN NOT BOTHER TO LET UP. AT ALL. And I fully believe that impeachment could happen well before 2006, it is possible entirely and that initiative must be taken and fully hammered.
Like I say, make it a constant sound chamber the words impeachment + resignation by deluging everything with the facts. Be like Cindy Sheehan and shout the facts loudly. The spin blows up in their face and that's their only weapon is a compliant, corporate media.
Democrats, or whatever the "opposition" is should be on every radio station. If not radio, get on the televisions, force yourself onto every pundit channel and annhialate the corrupt corporate media echo chamber by asking for impeachment/resignation.
Unified force. Once you have the unified force of message, have Conyers and the rest talking about the evidence and deliberating, then you have the power. And then like I say Hastert/Delay must go. Either jailtime for their breaking the law or recusal, they do not belong in any congressional meetings and have no legal right if they're taking bribes.

I made a couple of comments on another thread, here, and here, which provide info about a petition to Impeach Bush et al. , here, with Articles of Impeachment drawn up by Ramsey Clark, former U.S. Attorney General. Articles of Impeachment seem to have been written before "Katrina".
Don't know if this will do any good, but it sure felt good to sign the petition online!!

Remember whenever you create the echo chamber, there are many politicians already on board with impeachment. Such as Lynn Woolsey or Charles Grassley. Some of them are even already on the edge, while others have drank the neocon inspired koolaid by big oil crooks.
It's not that you want them in favor it....You want them all, ALL OF THEM, speaking about it, and discussing it. That is the whole point of what this comes down to.
Like Greyhawk said.....You need to do it with impunity and get mad, really mad. Let your people know that this "job" of theirs is to represent, not screw over their constituents. Let the enablers know that you scrutinize their every move and this bullshit is NOT going to be tolerated!
This is how those Gas Tax cuts were forced through, by all the people getting this ferocious. Remember also, for those chicken repubs and dems they need to STAND UP to Tom Delay and his crony oil buddies. Stand up means shout him down, as he's nothing but a fraudulent fuck-tard. A wimpy, adolescant criminal getting his paychecks from Halliburton. He is so "embattled" already that every politician should be seeking his head.
And the idea is to get them out of the way, get rid of the gatekeepers. That's all there is to it. Hastert is the same idiot who closed down hearings on Iraq/Katrina because he felt the local governments were at fault.
He repeated the spin mastered by BushCo. So you KNOW what kind of crook Hastert is and have the evidence he's sold to the highest bidder....

Listen to Howard Dean speak, he says that this was based on class racism plain and simple. And that if you WEREN'T black and poor, you survived, or almost surely got help immediately.
And so what did Ken Mehlman say to Dean, folks what did he say? Rather than villify Dean, Mehlman stated he hopes Dean's rhetoric translates into truth for the Democrats.
In other words, he complimented Dean's fighting spirit and non-mincing of words. No talking points. That's what the republicONS want, they WANT a fight. They WANT to get the democrats to fight them back on every front, so that the democrats will throw down the gauntlet and help the republicans drive the neocons the fuck out of here.
Does that make sense?!??? Its sort of a I fight you, so I can help you mentality. And the same goes for the other side. Tons of neocons posing as democrats are making life a living hell. We can NOT get impeachment if idiots like Lieberman are running the coverups...
Or if we have Ben Nelson and his Oil buddy heading up the impeachment bill.....Its not a factor, and these are JUST the tricks these neocon crooks try.
In closing, it IS time to fight and turn the tables. Throw the gauntlet down, and get really, really fucking pissed like Paul Hackett. If Howard Dean etc. could clone himself into half the politicians of congress, we'd already have impeachment & resignation proceedings.
This is a 10-step program kind of like getting off alcoholism. Its simple to read, harder to walk.

I'm trying to get the message across that this is how people must be acting.
Language or not, its the time to be fighting furiously regardless of background. You can NOT be docile and that is why I'm using those words to illustrate that point.
Fighting means literally, in the mentioned sense FIGHTING. Not like swearing up a storm but being very forceful in everything you do.
And also no mincing of words. I wish every democrat, every republican or politician would use the tactic of never mincing words such as Howard Dean uses. By speaking direct, to the point, and speaking loudly and bluntly about the truth you get your point across clearly. Everyone understands it, and more and more are likely to listen.
This is why I emphasize the point strongly. Keep a coherant, constant forceful message. And be very unabashed about it and you'll get the momentum you want and require.

Another part of examining this is examining all the angles of where it could go:
If Impeachment was imposed via the will of Congress, and the unrest in the GOP/House dems it would go to the Senate.
The Senate would have to convict. Bill Frist would have a hard time doing this so it is always possible you would have an incomplete impeachment.
However, if the Democrats overtake a few seats in 2006 the impeachment trials could then be finished.
But let me just move on with the point: If the majority leader and senate cabinet convicts, Bush & Cheney's cabinet is put before the court.
The presiding judge, could very well be John Roberts. So the problem in this entire system lies in the fact Bush appointed a good friend to the high court.
He would never do something so brash, and immediately demand new justices unless he was facing the fear of impeachment.
Roberts could overturn an ugly impeachment against him and that is the final trump card.
To completely try all 4 war criminals, you need the special prosecutor, and not only that the Grand Juries. That prosecutor might just be fitzgerald.
It could be possible to fully enact a citizens impeachment if the House had already impeached and/or the Senate convicted. For Bush & his partners of crime, there'd be no way out of that very real storm. And it looks like the higher powers are very displeased with his evil greed.

Let me ask you folks just how many helicopters are in the US department called FEMA, How many boats do they have? How many police officers, SWAT teams? How many troops? How many trucks? How many Busses? The answer is none!!!!!!!!!!!! They are there to coordinate the local, State and federal authorities and assist them in the management of their assets. When the local leadership failed to force the citizens to obey the evacuation order and then panicked and went into an ebonic tirade of swearwords. Most people are warned to keep 3-4 days worth of food and water for the emergencies and to evacuate all low-lying areas. The local government is responsible for that not the federal government. How many bus drivers does the federal government employ? No, the city has the busses; they know where the people in the low areas are not the federal government. They failed their people not the President. It was a miracle FEMA was able to respond as quickly as they did. The military had to fly the plains and Helicopters away to protect them from the storm and you cannot fly those hundreds of miles back in 24 hours. When they get there they would have been useless with out fuel and support that has to travel by land or sea. Just keep up the blame game you are playing right into the presidents hand in “Well there they go again” When will you folks ever learn?

Write to John Conyers of Michigan and ask him to introduce impeachment articles. campaign@johnconyers.com Supposedly he was entertaining this notion pre-Katrina. It only takes one House member to do so. I would say concentrate your efforts on him. The reason he hasn't I'm sure is the MSM would be all over him - still it would be a noble effort. Personally I don't believe the MSM will ever abandon Bush, they know they're responsible for him. He would never have even made it out of the primaries without their special help. And they know a full investigation of his crimes would make them complicit.

But FEMA were attributed to most of the aid-refusal, the denial of access, the 2-day delay and a plethora of other issues. Most of the instances of bad management and questionable actions (at least of those reported in the news)... were primarily those that were being controlled by FEMA at the time.
And just like so many Bush supporters and right-wing pundits... you're repeating the same self-contradictory, hypocritical nonsense:

I could be wrong, but I cannot see any way to remove the cancer threatening to kill America (i.e. the entire Bush administration) without going back to the clearly fraudulent election of 2004.
The Silent Scream of Numbers!! The statistical impossibility of Bush's "victory" in the wee hours of the morning last November continues to be largely ignored thanks to our formerly courageous free press. It's about consequence, cause and effect, the fucking dominoes!!
The horrors visited upon our country can be directly traced to BOTH stolen elections.
We live in a dictatorship now. The only way we can reclaim our democracy will be IF our previously free press will find the strength to speak truth to power once more and REPORT THE SIMPLE TRUTH OF THIS STOLEN ELECTION!!
If that fraud is completely exposed, it MIGHT become possible to remove the Bush Crime Family and either INSTALL John Kerry as the rightful winner of the '04 election or hold a special presidential election.

With all the damage this president has done to the nation I just do not understand what it takes to impeach the presidend. How does it started.
I keep hearing impeach the president and the administration but no one ever says how to start the process. Jumping up and down and screaming like an idiot realy does nothing the start the process. Writing a million letters I do not think will sway anyones opinion.
The question is simple, what needs to happen to impeach the president and administration.

Folks, I was up at 6:30 this morning.. layed in bed for an hour before I decided I wasn't gonna be able to get back to sleep and actually rest before my alarm went off. Know what I was thinking? (keep in mind, I normally don't get up till 9-ish and fly into work late and scrambling )
I was thinking how 3,000 TONS of radioactive waste has been dumped on Iraq under -this- Shrubman.. how his daddy only put up 300 tons of depleted uranium.. how our troops are being exposed, and worse.. how millions of innocent civilians are being slowly poisoned to death by our illegal war (make no mistake about it, you righ-wing morons, it IS an illegal invasion). Then I was thinking about how Daddy Shrubman LIED to the people of this country too.. the SAME way.. doctored satellite images? ADMITTEDLY doctored? False testimony from an embassador's daughter? and our guys didn't know about it? absolute bullshit.. Yet, Shrubman-senior never went to jail.. was never impeached.. never even publicly rediculed. In fact, Powell, one of the fabricators of the fake photo showing troops about to invade Saudi Arabia.. which never happened.. (if nothing else, he knew it was doctored and still lied to the world with that image) was STILL working in our government?? STILL involved in the "war machine"? w.. o... w...
So, we have a family of total liers and amoral shit-bags running this country.. again.. stolen elections or not, they are allowed to be in office AFTER it's been PROVED they LIE about things (a treasonous offence at a minimum.. executable had our leaders actually had the balls to declare war.. instead, they illegally handed over the reigns to Shrubman.. but that's a -whole- other issue in general).
The I started thinking about how you could EASILY put all this info in a straight forward discussion.. show the PROOF to people about what's going on.. that brought up the Sept. 11th "attacks" and the question, where the fuck is the plan that hit the Pentagon? there certianly was no wreckage there.. where the hell did that big ass passenger liner go.. If the public won't look at even that ONE serious hole in the story, what hope do we have?
Then I started thinking.. Hmm.. people won't even look at facts in this country any more. You can't talk about politics at work for the fear of losing your job to some manager that might (and likely is a Republican who voted for Shrubman.. at least, there was -one- manager that had his signed picture of Shrubman up next to his computer until last week) support this madness.. and in the same spirit of the insanity running the country, might abuse his power and have you fired.. which turns your word up-side-down.. especially in an economy where jobs are leaving hand over fist.. pissing off "the powerst that be" is getting more and more difficult since providing for yourself and family is becoming a riskier prospect..
Then I went back to what I was thinking when I was 15 (this is 20 years ago folks) and noticed how things looked like they were going in a very bad direction. Companies were making the rules.. they were deciding how things would work, and what policy would be. The "average" American was getting fat and lazy and disconnected .. In my early 20s, I was living in the streets.. I saw a part of our country that MOST people just don't understand. Poverty.. serious poverty, not just the stuff like when I was a kid and we had no money and eating PB&J on Christmas wasn't a big deal cause at least we had beds to sleep in.. no, I saw real abject poverty.. street people with little to no way to survive.. (course, as a side note, you hear all those well off ignorant fucks who never had to work for shit in their lives actually blame the folks in the street.. all of them, with no accounting for why they are there.. for their misfortune). I actually managed to get a job working at a Wal-Mart.. slept in my truck in the parking lot, people would knock on my door to get me up and I'd go inside and take a sink-shower.. They fired me (and near 15% of all the employees) 2 wks before the store opened.. after almost 2 months of helping them build the store.. course, that's Wal-Mart's way of doing things, even after promising us they wouldn't be doing that at -that- store.. If -I-, a smart hardworking motivated person can't keep a job (in certian economies, etc), how do you expect someone who's given up to do it? someone who's been crapped on over and over?.. anyway, I digress.. The point is, we have a serious problem in this country.. and almost EVERYONE is afraid to land in that situation, and almost EVERYONE is afraid to talk about it.. Poverty has become taboo in this country.
This had me back at part of the root cause.. Corperate America (well, more, global conglomerates and huge corps..). The drive for the almighty dollar has people running these companies totally disregarding human life (to the extreme, on occasion, of knowingly putting chemicals that will kill people into products or dumping them into our environment). The drive to have money.. gobs and gobs of money.. is causing people to be willing to crap on entire nations. And, the average American, in true lemming form, wants their cut.. so they vote Repug hoping that doing so will protect -their- riches.. should they ever get them.. all the while, ignoring the ever-growing population living in abject poverty. This is made worse by Corperate America controlling what we see and hear on TV.. which has become the staple in most houses in this country.. watching the news is no longer "watching the news", it's being fed what those in charge want you to see.
But.. certianly.. even those that want to be "rich" and "not pay taxes on their riches" don't condone what's happening with -this- administration.. right? Well.. we know SOME do (35% of our society is either so out of touch with "normal" folks that they don't see what's happening, or are just down right evil).. but what about the rest? Facts don't motivate us.. death and destruction doesn't motivate us..
Then I got to thinking about the only thing I can see as a corrilary to what's going on here.. Some guy walks up to a woman he's never seen before.. he's carrying a bat.. he smashes her knee with it causing her to fall on all fours. Then he whips it out and says "suck it".. Well, normal people call that rape... call that one of the most heinous things one human can do to another.. most people have a hard time getting their head around such a despicable act, and the woman who now has her knee smashed is fearing for her life and is in shock.. so she does what she's told hoping it will all just go away.. -That- is how I think most of us are feeling right about now. Shocked.. astonished that some bully can come in and smash the shit out of something (our voting system) and abuse the hell out of us.. people are standing there watching... doing nothing.. Here's what I propose.. bite it off. Just chomp down on it and bite it off.
This isn't about "he did something naughty.. lets toss him out of office".. this is about a currupt system that's been decades in the failing. This isn't about dems or repubs, Clinton did his own damage to America in the name of business (NAFTA anyone?).. This is about "rich folks looking out for themselves".. this is about "religious fanatic wanting a crusade".. this is about the United States of America no longer being the greatest country in the world.. not even close. This is about a system that has been abused by the wealthy and seeded with shady individuals who do what ever they need to for power.. and they have all the rest of us living in terror.. when you are afraid to talk about the state of our government because your boss might "pull a Shrubman" and use his connections to have you fired and totally disrupt your life, you are NOT living in freedom.
Sorry for the long post.. some of it rambling.. I wasn't gonna post it, but what the hell.. why not..
Oh, and for the guy asking about "how do we impeach".. that takes the Congress.. if I recall correctly, one or both houses can do it.. "we" can't do diddly other than scream at our elected (riiiiiight) officials and hope they do our bidding.. if enough people scream, they fear they might lose their seat and do what we ask.. It's a matter of having the rest of the government spank the Pres.. though, there are still a LOT of bad apples in Congress, so imeachment isn't likey.. hell, they didn't impeach Shrubman-senior when they found out they were lied to to get into a war the first time, why would they do anything now?

I would hate to see the impeachment movement go off
half-cocked. Given a Democratic sweep in the House and Senate
elections of 2006, impeachment in 2007 is quite possible.
The issues leading up to then are the failure of leadership re:
Katrina (My Pet Goat II), the bungled occupation of Iraq, the
dishonesty of the call for invasion, 9/11 Truth, and the
antidemocratic unauditable voting machines.
2006 will be the five-year aniversaries of 9/11, and the five-year
retrospectives of the events leading up to it--all the warnings

people knew the truth they would be howling for Bush's head.
The voting machines issue can easily be brought up in the
context of very reasonable doubts about the honesty of the
upcoming 2006 election.

Commission wouldn't be, I'd say 9/11 was a different case
because clearly its bipartisan structure was to negotiate the
coverup--"OK, we'll let you cover up this if you let us cover up
that." But with Katrina the Dems have nothing to hide.

Again I refer everyone back to the rules about impeachment. You can not simply "sit by" you must actively co-ordinate and demonstrate, and break through the echo chamber.
The first part of impeachment process is actually physically getting the media to hold polls regarding impeachment & resignation.
Start at that step, step 1 and even a crooked congress will start fearing for their jobs.

As to post #19 re: lack of busses, trucks, and helicopters. Surely
we will see many calls for Nat'l Guard and FEMA to be well
supplied with all these tools in every place where a disaster might
be anticipated--every earthquake zone, every flood zone, every
tornado zone, every port, every city near a nuke plant, every city
near a chemical plant, and every city near rail lines or rivers
or canals handling chemical cargo.
We must be aware that a mandatory mass evactuation is
exactly the same as a mass arrest before we go providing the
means for conducting it.

I called my congressman and my senators's offices today and asked them where is the accountability from the administration for Katrina? Where is the accountability for 9/11? Both of this tragedies has warnings which were not heeded. All I got was a couple of lame excuses, one man said nothing for 5 minutes - he didn't have any answers. They work for us we pay their salaries, and they cannot tell us what they are going to do about the current administration. Yet he still remains in office. How many of us would be fired if we let one individual die, let alone over 100,000? They all need to be fired. Bush wants to oversee the investigation himself. Why don't we let Saddam oversee the investigation into his atrocities?? Wake up people!!!

PetGoat: The showdown definitely needs to be forced now while its hot in everyone's minds and nobody is at business as usual.
This is very important to slam through the smoke-screen and put impeachment in the front page, the VFP (Veterans for Peace) coalition of soldiers have called for impeachment.
Start from that and build it and make it echo. It could be possible to start proceedings immediately if we makw it known, loud enough. The corporate media will not help, that's a guarantee. You must start by trouncing all the true news people at CNN instead and other media outlets to broadcast polls on impeachment and resignation.
As long as those polls are airlifted and it gets into discussion that is the beginning of the process.

The environment has to be cleaned up, or disasters like this are going to be coming by the dozens.
Just the fact these are predicted to hit the red states first and in the worst way, should be cause for them all to change their policy. Destroying trees and burning up the air and land has made mother nature very, very scornful.

Then today, I learned that the disaster relief bill passed yesterday by the Congress did not get circulated to the Democrats at all. Not even the common courtesy of showing it to them. And the majority party refused to allow debate or discussion–just a vote. So I wrote again today saying--

Yesterday I wrote you on the matter of impeachment.
Today I read the latest appropriations bill on Katrina disaster relief was voted on without the Democratic members even having seen the thing in print, and then discussion was restricted by the Majority so no amendments or discussion could be had.
And I read moments ago that Hastert has decided not to conduct hearings on the Katrina Relief within hours of announcing an investigation.
Coupled with the President's own self-important notion that he can investigate his own incompetence, I'd have to say you have been thoroughly and utterly steamrolled, and not a peep has been heard from a single Democrat.
Democrats who behave this way do not deserve to be in office and show by their very impotence they are neither an effective resistance to Republican authoritarianism, nor a trustworthy alternative.
Put it bluntly: the Democrats as a state and national party "do not have their shit together" and are on the verge of forfeiting every remaining vestige of credibility at the time our country needs fighters, leaders, principled forces intent on standing up for the things we were raised to believe in---fairness not least of these things.
The Democrats are drowning. They are drowning in New Orleans. They are drowning in Grover Norquist's bathtub.
Parish President Broussard said" "Shut up and send somebody!". He was tired of the press conferences, and people who pose in front of camera to read statements and "send a message" to the American people. Rep. What would help right now is for Democrats to declare war on Republican incompetence, arrogance, graft and cronyism and lead the expose' in the public eye so it will be coherently understood and indelibly etched in the public consciousness. This should happen every day, at the top of your lungs and at every turn. It is the Republicans who decided there would be no courtesy, no fairness, no civility, no quarter.
Are there any "good" Republicans? You might just as well ask if there are any good Democrats. The illusion of fairness and moderation is precisely what is keeps you in your place: just be a good sport---and have the legs cut out from under you. Moderation and firm resolve simply have not worked either for the "good" Republicans or the Democrats. Moderation is a luxury of those who either have the time and resources to bide their time, or those who already control the game. Again, the infatuation with the image of moderation is more to the heart of what I see politicians doing--they want to appear moderate and level-headed, steely in their determination and piously certain of their principles.
It does not appear to me to be an accurate image. It is light-years from it. If you and other Democrats think you are going to win the image war, you are sadly mistaken.
Here is something to think about. Politics is the art of the possible. Compromise is the currency of the political realm. Competition is the thing that elevates the number,the quality and availability of alternatives
to spend that currency on. You would suppose the "free market of ideas" would be flooded right now on how to improve the lot of America and its people. Look around. Do you see a flood of ideas and advocates for those ideas being presented in public view? Do you see people trying to sell alternatives? Do you see a broad cast of personalities and political characters attempting to speak from their own hearts and experience about something worthwhile to give-a-try?
What I see a force of gray-suited salesmen from the 1950's selling one product, and one only. I see a political marketplace that is controlled by a single supplier.
Democrats used to have variety, characters, choice and energy.
It ain't there no more.
So I encourage you to get in the daylight and fight. There are too many things that matter---like the simple fairness of being treated as an elected representative of a great state. Where is the outrage?”

I agree, we need a fuel that is both renewable and pollutes less... I am convinced the fuel of the future is ethanol which is basically alcohol.
Notice how all the big oil cartels are suddenly talking about "alternative fuels" but ethanol is conspicuously absent from their "ideas"? This talk by the oil companies serves two purposes I think. One, of lesser importance, it makes the sleazy greedy oil barons falsely appear to "care" about the enviornment at a time when more and more people are seeing them for the S.O.B.s they are. And two, of greater importance to them, is that they are thinking about THEIR future, not ours, and where they'll be in a post-oil energy market. That's why they carefully tiptoe around ethanol as an alternative, even suggesting such ridiculously-expensive ideas as "Hydrogen fuel cells" to power cars, "electric cars", "solar-powered cars" etc. Unless forced to admit it, they'll invent a car that runs on diamonds before they push for ethanol-powered cars. The reason is the raw materials and the means of production, namely whose hands the wealth is in. With crude oil there are only a finite and dwindling number of places on earth that contain it, and the extraction is done by very specialized means, huge complicated drilling wells, and the wealth from it is concentrated in a small number of hands, those with the money to have their own oil-drilling companies. Furthermore, the refining process is complicated and new refineries are expensive to build with huge catalytic cracking towers and forests of pipes, valves, holding tanks etc. So any wealth gained in the refining end of it is again concentrated in a small amount of elite moneyed bourgeois individuals. Add to that the psychological effect of knowing that they are the "only game in town" so to speak, that if you want fuel for your car there are right now (with few exceptions) gas pumps you can pull up to, and...
no other real choice but running out of fuel. So they have long grown accustomed to having, pardon the crude reference, the population of America by the balls so to speak in terms of energy production. They certainly don't want competition and would throw their grandmother down a flight of stairs before they start selling something at their stations that ISN'T so hard to come by, expensive and complicated to refine and with the profits kept in the pockets of the elite few. See, that's the beauty of ethanol: It's raw material is corn and other starchy crops. They can be grown most anywhere that anything else will grow, instead of just a few select places on earth where oil can be found, so it is not really lucrative. Also consider that the refining process is very simple, so simple in fact that an illiterate hillbilly in West Virginia can do it. All it takes is a "still" of the same type used to distill "grain" alcohol. That's it. No tank farm. No catalytic cracking towers. Just a "still". A car can be taken to the repair shop and you can have the mechanics fiddle with the carbureator/fuel injection and in less than an afternoon and for low cost someone can have a car that runs on ethanol. The problem of course now lies in getting the ethanol to put in it, but I'm saying it's not like we have to make a whole new type of engine or something. Probably what we'd see (if ethanol ever took off) is wholesalers buying large amounts of corn etc. from many farmers, and the wholesalers selling it to distillers who would have great big (but no more complicated) versions of "stills" to mass produce ethanol that would be sold to filling stations. These distilleries could be located in agricultural areas so they'd be closer to their raw materials & wholesalers, and the distilleries would likely be a lot more numerous than today's oil refineries. Because its raw material is cheap and prolific, and the refining process is cheap too, the price of a gallon of ethanol (again if it took hold as I'm saying) would be much, much cheaper than a gallon of gas. Hence the wacky "hydrogen-powered car" B.S. of the big oil companies: they want you to have to come to them to refill your "hydrogen fuel cell" every time its empty, and certainly are made/refined/whatever by a tiny amount of technicians as opposed to vastly more dispersed means of production and refining possible with ethanol. And it's renewable, we'll never run out of it so there will be no wars over places to grow corn like there are over oil fields. And it burns much, much cleaner and more thoroughly and efficiently so it pollutes much, much less than dirty gasoline. So the only ones who lose in the ethanol matter are big oil.

I see from the current projection that the storm will miss that area. I will be interested to see what happens when Ophelia gets closer. How will this storm be guided. Will it lose strength and how will FEMA respond.
I agree regarding impeachment but I think it will have to be done by "we the people". Congress is too deep in the pockets of Corporate America, I have no faith in Congress. I cannot see any of, them with the exception of a few, doing anything to help the American people. Their future depends on being friendly with the fascists...how do they sleep at night.

She is equally as UNINFORMED, being an educator, if she is NOT reading or watching TV. LET US NOT FORGET, THE PEOPLE OF NEW ORLEANS WENT TO THE DOME FOR SHELTER TO AWAIT THE END OF KATRINA, BUT WHEN THE LEVEES BREACHED AND "OTHERS CAME IN SUPPOSEDLY TO HELP", THE DOORS WERE LOCKED, PREVENTING THEM FROM LEAVING(Geraldo Rivera live broadcast). But the two things that bring PURE AND UNEQUIVOCAL RAGE are the patients and personnel left on the roof of a Charity Hospital that WATCHED others from a Private Hospital being evacuated-only to be left behind for another 3(three) days.....and the people in the HOME FOR THE ELDERLY that DROWNED(approx.30-32)..deserted and forgotten. As my eyes swell with tears thrice again,......I wonder WHAT????? has happened to OUR AMERICA. IMPEACHMENT AND FIRING IS TRIVIAL COMPARED TO WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE CITIZENS IN LOUISIANA, MISSISSIPPI AND ALABAMA. GIVE THEM NO CHOICE. We HAVE to go to alternative fuel and we damn well do HAVE to impeach all the bastards...The fastest way as said is to cut off the guard, Delay must be run out of congress and Hastert forced out of the way. Then impeachments can be done immediately, and don't think for a minute the GOP won't do it. They'll do ANYTHING to save their asses, and their image, or everything else from destruction.
In essence, the Bush bullshit neocons are NOT invincable. THEY could easily be stopped and then thrown into prison if there was a REAL unified opposition and the democrats all became the opposition. Instead, they have many leaders who are COMPLICIT in the crimes and must be run out of town.
We're talking about a full fledged holocaust, Bush Admin is going to break the RECORD for destruction. They are going to be facing Global Warming headface along with all of us, and half the country could be wiped out entirely before Bush's insanity finally kills himself, the whole government and the rest of the people in Washington, Wisconsin, everywhere else.
All it takes is ONE cumulative effort of citizen outrage to get rid of them. ONE effort, and Delay out of the picture. America surely must have that in it and be prepared to shout out loudly like Howard Dean. The alternative is nothing less than the deaths of millions, and then the total fall of the states.

Robert D. Novak: President has to get the lawyers out of disaster relief
I'VE GOT THIS down," Michael Chertoff boasted to aides last weekend as he staved off questions on television about handling the Katrina disaster. It turned out, however, that the secretary of homeland security did not begin to have it "down" when he subsequently was interrogated by Tim Russert on NBC's "Meet the Press." Chertoff's miserable performance on the air reflected a fiasco at all levels of government.
"There'll be plenty of time," Chertoff told Russert, to "do the after-action analysis." That bloodless dismissal made the human tragedy and physical mayhem on the Gulf Coast seem like a bureaucratic mistake. What Chertoff "got down" was the White House mantra, repeated endlessly, that the "after-action analysis" should not interfere with current recovery operations. It was similar to saying the Pearl Harbor attack should not have been investigated and nobody disciplined for failures until World War II was won.
Democrats have seized on the administration's performance in handling Katrina to bash George W. Bush, but Republicans are not much happier with him. The common complaint is that the President has let the lawyers take over. Chertoff, a former federal judge and assistant attorney general, is a quintessential lawyer who has surrounded himself at Homeland Security with more lawyers. Michael D. Brown, who as head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is Chertoff's subordinate, is also a lawyer. Neither Chertoff nor Brown was experienced in politics or large-scale management before joining the Bush administration.
Chertoff's inexperience was shown when he said "I've got this down" into an open microphone, thinking he was safe because the cameras were off and not realizing his words were transmitted via satellite. He clearly saw himself as an advocate tailoring what he said to a lawyer's brief.
Political deafness mixed with lawyerly evasion was shown on "Meet the Press" when Chertoff claimed the breaking of the New Orleans levees "really caught everybody by surprise." Russert cited repeated forecasts of this disaster by the New Orleans Times-Picayune, but Chertoff insisted he did not say what he had just said.
Russert gave Chertoff a good going over, but that performance did not provoke Republican complaints (except for the usual grousing from White House aides). When Republican House members participated in a telephone conference call Sept. 1, the air was blue with complaints about the handling of Katrina. There was much hand-wringing about Republican prospects in the 2006 elections. Politics aside, however, the GOP lawmakers were unhappy with their administration's performance.
Rep. Mark Foley of West Palm Beach, Fla., not known as a shouter, was especially critical. Contrary to claims that FEMA's Brown was doing just fine until Katrina struck, Foley has been at odds with Brown over the government's handling of hurricanes that have hit his Florida district. Foley has stories of Brown's denial of reality and FEMA's inherent bureaucratic sluggishness. Attempts in Florida to send 500 airboats to the Gulf Coast to help, the congressman says, hit a governmental brick wall.
Criticism of FEMA was even voiced at Tuesday's Cabinet meeting, of all places. While all other Cabinet members were silent, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson blew the whistle. He said HUD's readiness to send emergency housing to New Orleans was thwarted by FEMA's red tape.
Rep. Christopher Shays of Connecticut is more liberal than nearly all his fellow Republicans, but he has tried to be a Bush loyalist. He is a member of the Homeland Security Committee and chairs the national security subcommittee of the Government Reform Committee. Consequently, it is noteworthy when he accuses the administration of "a real sense of arrogance. Loyalty and never admitting a mistake matters more than the truth. It has a Nixon feel to me."
The Democrats on the ground, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, have done little to commend themselves. But that does not excuse the federal performance, in the candid opinion of many Republicans. To start with, these Republicans talk about taking FEMA back from the Homeland Security Department. They agree that heads must roll, certainly Brown's and possibly Chertoff's. Above all, these Republican politicians say, let's get the lawyers out of disaster relief.

Kraig #44 - Are you aware that the diesel engine was originally invented to run on vegetable (specifically, hemp) oil, and that it is still possible to run diesels on vegetable oil like the waste from deep fat friers? I bring this up because ethanol has to come from distillation and requires lots of energy to produce. Vegetable oil, however, is cheap and easy to produce, and is infinitely renewable. The estimable Jane Fonda will be touring the country soon, her bus powered by vegetable oil. There is no excuse for using petroleum to power any surface transport vehicles, and there never was. If vast tracts were planted with hemp we could stop cutting down trees for newsprint, stop raping the ecology by growing cotton for fabrics, stop using petroleum (OK, I don't know what to do about airplaces), and stop and smoke a bone to relax every now and then. Well, why not?

Bio-Diesel fuels are a reality because of Vegetable Oil so I don't see why not. It really is time to clean up the mess, and take out the entire cancer and probably throw out the 15% of america who rely on oil companies.....

Regarding vegetable oil as an alternative fuel, you're right, it is a good idea. I have heard of it and Jane Fonda's bus tour etc. and it must have slipped my mind, perhaps because I wasn't used to thinking about vegetable oil as being combustible wheras I have long known ethanol is. Like you and others have said, it would be even cheaper and easier to produce than ethanol and so it would make an even BETTER alternative fuel than what I suggested. A lot of my point was that the oil barons are trying to muddle the issue and trying to secure their own futures with crap like promoting "hydogen-powered cars" as the alternative while ignoring real viable alternatives like ethanol and as you mentioned, vegetable oil. Either one would be a thousand times better than gasoline.

And now with Katrina it's beyond incompetency, it's beyond pure apathy for the people that make up America, it's more Criminal than anything Nixon or any other monster has done!
And mark my words with the new eminent domain laws there won't be much of New Orleans for the poor to go back to if they wanted to (those that owned nothing but the small plot of land passed down through generations), because this administration has promised it out to Halliburton and others (it will increase the tax base that is needed to rebuild...yeah...stopping his tax cuts would bring more in...yeah. But, hey don't rob the rich to feed the poor--Reverse Robin Hood in Power!). Worse he's released all minimum wage requirements, so the builders of the city will receive nothing, will corporation get richer! I wonder if Halliburton will still charge the government going rates while paying slave wages? Even worse, with Bunnie fired from the Pentagon procurement office Halliburton once again was given a contract for the levees.. .... Is there not another company, like a minority owned one that deserves the work of rebuilding their home!
Every time bush fails which is more often than most of us can take, I think finally Americans will see the truth and fight to jail the entire administration, but no they get away more???????????????????????

If the pix is wider than ~400 pixels, you will have to do some calculations for the width and height-- otherwise, if you post it, it will totally mess up blog formatting.
