Unfortunately, my favorite comment got deleted by the Mods there! Read it early this A.M. before I got to copy it for posting here along with this! Oh, well. Still much to enjoy in the comments...

Did any rightwing commenters call you a "limey bastard" yet?
Here's all the Republicans (and no Democrats or any other partys) on FOX "news"s GOP political operation:
Sarah Palin, Karl Rove, Dana Perino, John Bolton, Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich, John Kasich, Dick Morris, Frank Luntz, William Kristol, Sean Hannity, Charles Krauthammer, Glenn Beck
Can you think of any more?

I wish somebody would bag her... and yesterday isn't soon enough.
[ed note: I thought this was just a coarse comment about Sarah Palin needing to get laid. Someone else thinks it's an expressed wish for her to be killed. I don't know which it is, or if it's something else, now, and if you meant that you want someone to kill her, we don't want you on this blog. In case you haven't noticed, we have been making a big deal about that kind of action being encouraged by right-leaning media pundits, and in general, who in the hell talks that way? Maybe you could clarify, or maybe others will help clarify...? —99]

Big Dan - did you watch Keith Olbermann's epic list of rightwing pundits soiling the public airwaves from a few weeks ago? I know Brad posted the video, don't remember how far back though. EPIC.

Big Dan -
No, they didn't call me a "Limey Bastard" yet Though there were so many comments, I haven't been able to keep up with the last hundred or so (once the wingnuts awoke in the U.S.) so they might have!
Your list left out Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, and too many to waste even another pixel on tonight...

Hey Friedman, you want to explain why that kill-Palin comment is still on the boards? Geez, your website is scummy.
Fox News will continue to kick butt. The tea party protests will continue to grow exponentially. And at the rate Barack Obama is headed, a Palin/Obama race is goine to shock lefties in America. I can just imagine left-wing filth-spewers having a nationwide cow in November 2012 over Sarah Palin getting elected. The entertainment value of that would be priceless.
[ed note: I'm sorry, Damail. I saw it almost immediately as it was posted, but I always thought "bag her" meant SEX... somebody saying she needed to get laid... which was bad enough, but, well, am I behind the curve? Was that really somebody wishing her dead? —99]

FDL Book Salon Welcomes Richard Kim and Colin Robinson, Going Rouge, Sarah Palin, An American Nightmare
Going Rogue - An American Life" by Sarah Palin is the toxic fluff that promises to fill conservative Christmas stockings across the nation this book-buying season, then "Going Rouge - An American Nightmare" is the antidote. Richard Kim and Betsy Reed, Senior Editors at The Nation have cast the net wide and gathered a collection of existing essays and new material on Alaska's most infamous ex-governor. The anthology is published by O/R Books, a nascent publishing venture that seeks to "embrace progressive change in politics, culture, and the way [they] do business."

Palin rehashes ‘metaphor’ excuse to dodge accountability for the Lie of the Year.
Sarah Palin must be running out of excuses for her gaffes. As ThinkProgress noted earlier this week, the former governor was forced to address her “death panel” lie in the wake of PolitiFact’s designation of her claim as “Lie of the Year.” In an attempt to spin the lie, Palin is now calling the “death panel” claim a “metaphor“:
Though Nancy Pelosi and friends have tried to call “death panels” the “lie of the year,” this type of rationing – what the CBO calls “reduc[ed] access to care” and “diminish[ed] quality of care” – is precisely what I meant when I used that metaphor.
This should sound familiar to those who have been closely following Palin’s year-and-a-half in the spotlight. After Palin made the jaw-dropping claim that Alaska’s proximity to Russia counts as foreign policy experience, the McCain-Palin campaign used the “metaphor” excuse to defend the then-Governor:
A senior campaign aide who agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity admitted that Palin’s knowledge of Russia may be limited to the way someone from Miami might obtain a general feel for Latin America.
“It is very much being able to look off the tip of Alaska,” the aide said. “Metaphorically, I’m talking about.”
Despite how metaphorical, allegorical, or analytical people attempt to make Palin sound, the truth is that her limitless string of gaffes and missteps are simply nonsensical.

Following TP report, Sarah Palin is booted from her scheduled speech at a Canadian hospital fundraiser.
http://thinkprogress.org...palin-hospital-backlash/
Following TP report, Sarah Palin is booted from her scheduled speech at a Canadian hospital fundraiser.
Last week, it was revealed that Sarah Palin had been booked to deliver a $200,000 speech at a hospital fundraiser in Canada. ThinkProgress was the first to report that the event seemed odd given the fact that the hospital — which offers the same advanced directive service that Palin derided as “death panels” — is part of a “socialist” health care system Palin abhors. Now, the Toronto Sun reports that Palin has “been given the boot” and will no longer appear at the fundraiser for St. Peter’s hospital. Jeff Valletine, the vice president of communications for Hamilton Health Sciences, said that he had received a backlash for inviting Palin:
“Individually I’m a bit surprised by the magnitude of the reaction but I’m not too surprised. Sarah Palin is a strong personality who brings out lots of opinions from lots of folks, so that’s to be expected.”
Last month, Canadian comedian Mary Walsh asked her about Canadian health care, to which Palin responded, “Canada needs to dismantle its public health-care system and allow private enterprise to get involved and turn a profit.” According to the Sun, Palin will instead give a speech to a local children’s charity.

"Was that really somebody wishing her dead?..."
Ever hear a hunter say they were able to bag a deer or an elk over the weekend? That's why I think "I wish somebody would bag her" means "I wish somebody would kill her".

Yes. I have heard the term "bagged" in relation to hunting and fishing... and groceries... and sex... but I never heard anyone say "bag" in the present or future tense for any of these, except groceries and sex... and already dead bodies. I can see what you mean, and it makes at least as much sense as my original take on it. But I think I have now dealt with any residual confusion.
I've heard men say, "I'd like to bag that one" while gazing upon a lovely woman, and, unbelievable as I find it, lots of them express interest in Sarah Palin's attractiveness, which is why I didn't take that as wishing her dead.
I think if you make the issue about conservatives being the only ones who wish politicians dead, then that can't be right because liberals certainly do their share of that. But my understanding of this business is that it's the media trolling for assassins that is the problem. Insofar as one views this, or any other, blog as part of the media, the mention of death wishes on others does come under that heading, more loosely... but, even so, we don't hold with it here.
I can't speak for Brad or for Frank, but I don't think either is denying that liberals are subject to wishing certain public figures would just die, or be killed. Only that megaphoning it on tv and radio and publications ought to be proscribed... because people with, shall we say, a less inhibited can-do attitude are encouraged that way.
Personally, I feel that engaging in the polemics while our whole country and a huge chunk of the world are under such dire threat of the ravages of fascism is just contemptibly benighted behavior. We need to come together in the very worst way. It's an emergency and all this culture warring only strengthens the forces bringing us down. If there were any questions about this during the last administration, they have been erased now.
