BLUEBEAR 2,..
All these groups combined and the signed
petitions,.. put more pressure on the authorities and give those who ultimately take action to officially
file for the hand count much more ammunition. If there is an army of pissed off people who demand action about these failed elections it is far more difficult
to ignore or not take these people seriously. Also too
you've got to hand it to Brad et al,.. the MSM controls
the content of the news with an iron fist,.. Brad is showing in real-time how the MSM can be readily bypassed and an issue can be forced front and center,.. no matter how much that exposure is to the chagrin of those who control the reins of power.
The blogs are becoming titans who need not back-down to the powerhouses of media. It is about time,.. none too soon,.. very timely just prior to Nov 2006 - THAT THE BLOGS FLEX THEIR MUSCLE,.. A SHOW OF FORCE IF YOU WILL,.. SHOW OF STRENGHTH,.. THE MSM HAD BETTER
STRAIGHTEN OUT AND FLY RIGHT OR THE BLOGS WILL LEAVE THEM IN THE DUST.
This Busby/Bilbray thang could be a gift from the GODS,.. all the right buttons have been pushed that one could hope for,.. it is a BF issue,.. it is in BF's
backyard,.. he has assembled a phalanx of warriors,..
who would not think twice to march side by side onto
the battlefield. BF et al might not just win this skirmish,.. they might also win the war.
Grab a bowl of hot popcorn,.. and enjoy the show.
If BF needs back up,.. or an extra hand,.. I hope he is wise enough to reach out via this blog,.. many folks
would be proud to avail themselves to render assistance
in a multitude of ways. It would not be much wisdom to
burn himself out,.. there is much to be done and accomplished between now and November 2006. Keep the physical and mental acumen in reserve.
Finally,.. may the battle commence.

WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO ABOUT NOV. ELECTIONS???
Can it be any more obvious that they'll "win" every time if we don't do something?
Do any of y'all have a working stratagy? What to do when the state's machines are not required to have a paper trail? What to do when the DREs don't work? What to do when the hackable vote-scanner machines give us a 51 - 49 Pub "win" ??? Recount? How do we arrange for safeguards of the paper ballots where they are?
What to do to recognize and publicize the trainwreck? If anyone has answers, please let us know...

Brad:
I'm so glad that you continue to chase this issue. About 20 times a day I check in here just to see if there is any election news. When I'm reading about some candidate on Kos, etc., all I can think about is that it is a waste of time to support anyone UNLESS THE VOTES ARE COUNTED AND LEGITIMATE!!!!
(By the way, it seems that election fraud is no longer a taboo in some circles where it used to be forbidden.)
And on top of that, I feel that the gravity of a Bushevik earth has become a growing force --- that it has become much harder to lift my arms to type, or move my body to react. I've grown tired of the lies --the weight of the dead and broken bodies is suffocating.
So it is good to see that there are those who have the strength to continue the fight. Thank you, from the bottom of my very heavy heart.

Every time the Repubthugs steal another election there's a whole lot of hollerin' but little or no legal action. It's like throwing spitballs at their illegal machine. If the election violated state & federal law in CA-50 then why doesn't the Busby camp, the Democratic Party in CA, the DNC or some other democratic organization legally challenge the election? Town meetings, petitions and phone calls do absolutely nothing! Challenging the fuckers in court is the only way to stop them and California is one of the few states where a challenge can succeed. If the Busby election is not challenged in court, we might as well all take our marbles, go home and shut the fuck up because we don't have the balls to play hardball.

So anyhow, I wanted to chime in to support your emphasis on the CA50 special election. It is a golden opportunity to draw attention to this issue in a race that was a microcosm of a general election, and therefore much easier to focus on without the distraction of all the 434 other house races (plus senate and governorships) that will be in contention in November.
If Busby won't take this issue seriously yet, somebody should talk to her directly about this and explain to her that she will have no better chance to win in November or ever if she doesn't take it up now.
For those who say it is better not to make a big deal because it will depress turnout, a higher turnout would only give more legitimacy to a tampered outcome. That's good?

Kathy (#23): It would be nice if a losing candidate would just walk into court the day after the election, but it isn't that simple. There are a variety of subtle legal issues that impact when this will happen.
There are also "media-related" issues. If this is just a civil lawsuit, it will get swallowed up in the right-wing-dominated courts of San Diego before it ever gets to the 9th Circuit or the SCOTUS. They need to build "media traction" that will force the issue to the top of judge's agendas and make sure they won't dare bury it or "time it out" until after November when it will be moot.
Many things must be done. What WE can do is spread the word. Buy the relevant books and ROLLING STONE and give them to friends, associates, family, co-workers, and neighbors. GET THE WORD OUT! Send people to this blog. Give money to this blog. Volunteer. Talk to people. MAKE CHANGE!!!
While we are building the "groundswell," there are plenty of people in DC and CA who are preparing the wave to start.
If we do this right, we will give Turdblossom the suprise of his ugly life.
THERE IS A TINY BIT OF HOPE.

I'd like second Charlie L.'s motion about getting the word out. Crooked elections aren't uppermost in people's minds, amazing as that might sound. Consider:
1) Half the eligible voting population doesn't vote
2) The same half cares more about sports, celebrities' private lives, their car, and shopping at the mall than about honest elections
3) Another quarter does vote, but follows party allegiance and/or what their pastor tells them to do, and pastors rarely sermonize against crooked elections
4) Election fraud is widely considered a "liberal's" concern, and everyone knows liberals are kooks
5) Elected officials consider election challenges to be motivated by politics, and don't honor them (as witness Senators' failure to support Barbara Boxer)
6) Corporate media are still slow to recognize problem
7) Almost no one understands the complexities of computer software and how to hack a machine, thus people who might otherwise complain, do not
8) HAVA now stands for "Hack Any Voting Apparatus," so we have to overcome the so-called help of Congress
Charlie L. is right. We've all got work to do.

And propaganda got to be a bad word because of the Germans.. using it. So what I did was to try to find some other words, so we found the words Council on Public Relations". link
Nowadays its Astroturfing

I'm especially fond of this quote from this article
"This is exactly what has happened to U.S. elections with the introduction of networked electronic voting machines. There is no longer a public count of the votes in the polling station. The authentication of the precinct tally by election judges has become meaningless because they are not allowed to count the votes." link

We need to anticipate all the possibilities. One that I worry about is that we DO manage to get a recount in Busby v. Bilbray, but the results don't appear to have been hacked, and the Republican wins. The news media will then try to use that to say that the machines have now been shown to be safe, because the results didn't change, so therefore there is nothing to worry about. So we need to repeatedly be saying that we will be happy either way because we will ... we will...
I was going to say we will finally KNOW who won then, even if it was the Republican, but it just occurred to me to think about all those closed doors over the paper-trail thing. What's to keep the hack from generating an extra paper-trail record now and then instead of just one? Best to do that after a republican vote--just output two votes for that one. If someone DOES open the door and watch, will anyone believe them when they say they saw two vote-records slide by, instead of just their own?
Do they let people bring digital cameras into the polling place? Because I'm going to want to make a video of my vote, showing everything. Everyone should.

Smiling here, I needed to hear this. Things are looking up. I hope the lawsuit gets filed before the primaries here in Tennessee (August) just so more people will get what the hell I'm talkin about when I bring up election reform and the security issues of the machines. (In my small county we still use paper ballots, thank goodness)
The thing is, with all of this evidence of the ABILITY to change the results of an election right out there in the open, it lends weight to any challenges that ANY candidate wants to bring after an election. To paraphrase Donald Rumsfeld, it's a "known known" Look for the courts to be PACKED with lawsuits after November.
It is frustrating though, to continuously put verifiable information out there and to STILL get the "sore loser" response. On my blog the other day, I finally posted something like, if certain hackers want Hillary Clinton for President, she will be selected - and in order to get the issue of election tampering into the public eye, that very well might happen. And anyone who isn't making noise now doesn't warrant a voice then.
Hey, whatever it takes to get their attention
For some reason all we have to do is say the "H" word and the little Bushites start to tremble with rage and soil themselves.
Hang in there Brad, safe travels.

It is possible that Bilbray won legitimately, simply because that district is so Republican to begin with. It's like New Canaan, Connecticut...if the incumbent Republican were caught dealing drugs at the junior high school in his underwear, they'd still re-elect him over a Democrat. I'm not kidding about that. It's the Marion Barry/Washington, D.C. syndrome in reverse.
That doesn't mean the challenge shouldn't go forward, because election improprities are their own evil. If election machinery can sit unguarded in someone's garage, the process itself is forfeit. What's needed is for someone to confront Bilbray and ask, "Does it make you feel comfortable to know you won an election under these circumstances, or should you not be speaking out yourself?" Debra Bower and/or Jeeni Criscenzo are in the ideal position to ask him that question.

When we're able to predict their next move regularly, then we'll be on the road to election reform
By exposing them, their effectiveness will diminish, kinda like how everyone pretty much knows now what Rove is going to say or do next, it gets repetitive after a while, a pattern develops

Privacy no long exists in the United States. And the police forces, led by federal agencies, are complicit and in some cases leading the charge:
"Numerous federal and local law enforcement agencies have bypassed subpoenas and warrants designed to protect civil liberties and gathered Americans' personal telephone records from private-sector data brokers.
These brokers, many of whom advertise aggressively on the Internet, have gotten into customer accounts online, tricked phone companies into revealing information and even acknowledged that their practices violate laws, according to documents gathered by congressional investigators and provided to The Associated Press"

MidEast afficionados can read online newspapers in arabic or in english from links at this site (scroll down for english versions), which focus on local middle east news, but they also have news concerning global matters.
In perusing some of the material, and still reeling from the lack of outrage at preznit blush's allowing Dubai/UAE to take over 9 military factories in the US (link here), I wondered just what is it about Dubai/UAE that preznit blush likes so much about it?
I found the secret dubai blogspot, where it is said:
So hear it now. Sheikha Sanaa bint Mana bin Rashid Al Maktoum was an amazing woman, one of the greatest Grand Old Dames of Dubai. In keeping with custom here, she lived completely out of the public eye. But she was known to have a powerful influence in the Ruler's Court, and was greatly respected and admired.
Immediately I hurried to translate this from dubaispeak into english, and came up with:
So hear it now. [Barbara Bush] was an amazing woman, one of the greatest Grand Old Dames of Dubai. In keeping with custom here, she lived completely out of the public eye. But she was known to have a powerful influence in the [Supreme Court], and was greatly respected and admired.

Christopher Bryson, in the FLUORIDE DECEPTION, writes about Bernays and how, in WWII and after, the defense industry and the US Government used Bernays to "sell" fluoride to the American public. Fluoride was a toxic waste from the enrichment of uranium and from manufacture of aluminum and other metals. Industry workers and citizens living near these facilities were suffering terrible health problems. Lawsuits were inevitable. Bernays did his job very well of convincing the public that fluoride was actually good for humans. Defense attorneys would actually slap down a tube of Ipana toothpaste in front of a Plaintiff's expert and ask: "Are you telling me Dr. ____, that the fluoride in this toothpaste is a toxin?"
The only case I have ever heard of where the plaintiff won was in Oregon in the 50s. Martin v. Reyonlds Aluminum.
Yes, our government has a long history of Psy Ops.

But, of course, nothing is more important than getting Debra into a key position to promote and ensure election integrity.

#10..Remember Coleen Rowley. She was quoted as saying that there was a lot of concern from field agents about the terroists activity..but higher ups were afraid for their jobs if they investigated. Now, if the FBI wasn't dirty at the top...they would have investigated. That tells me there are a lot of people who know what really happened. One thing that has bothered me is NORRAD. The vice president was conducting war games? That is so sci fi. VP's are supposed to go to state funerals. Anyway, thanks Brad for your bulldog approach to election fraud. I don't know if I posted this, but go to waynemadsenreport.com and he lists the skyrocketting cases of identity theft, and makes the case that the Bush administration is populating a database on all of our personal information with it. He lists the recent cases of ID theft of databases, laptops, etc... and it IS skyrocketting lately. When you put it in the context of Bush lying about the NSA spying, it's believable.

"June 20, 2006 --- The spate of physical theft of personal data on computer storage devices continues at an alarming rate. WMR has previously reported that most of these thefts are not coincidental but are part of a coordinated and unprecedented effort by U.S. intelligence agencies to obtain personal data to populate Total Information Awareness surveillance databases. The latest theft was that of a flash memory drive at the University of Kentucky containing personal information on 6500 current and former University of Kentucky students. The theft occurred on May 26 but was recently made public by university officials. The chart in the June 17 article has been updated to reflect this most recent theft report.
From hard drives and laptops to data tapes and flash memory drives, personal data is being stolen on a virtual daily basis."

They hack into democracy with e-vote machines, they lied about spying on us...you've GOT TO at least entertain the idea that all these thefts of ID databases, especially from corporate America (who voluntarily supplied the Bush admin. with our call data) are corporate America being complicit in our "government" populating a database with everyone's personal information.

"" June 19, 2006 --- No sooner had we written the article on a coordinated effort by a covert U.S. intelligence operation to steal large amounts of personal data to populate Total Information Surveillance databases, came word that yet another laptop with personal data was stolen from the home of an ING Bank employee in Washington, DC. The laptop contained personal data, including financial information and Social Security Numbers, on 13,000 current and retired DC employees who participate in the DCPlus retirement plan.
It was also reported that in Dec. 2005, two ING laptops were stolen that contained personal data on 8500 Florida hospital employees. The physical theft of personal data is now approaching a virtual epidemic and is unprecedented in the history of the computer security practice, which dates back to the early 1970s. We have updated out chart (below) to reflect these most recent data theft reports. ""

?
As you know, Mr. Leopold of truthout published an article that Rove had been indicted. He says his sources were feds inside the admin.
Rove is said to not be indicted.
Truth out is sticking to the story and indicating that some Nixonian machinations may be at the bottom of it:
http://forum.truthout.or...ory/2006/6/19/185947/499
Read the article, and see if anyone has some ideas how we can help clear it up. I certainly know more than to say this republican dictatorship would not do something like that, and so if they need help shouldn't we lend support somehow?

I've been following the TO Rove Indictment matter. I am totally behind them and fully belive Rove will be indicted but I have one question for any lawyers out there. Is it possible for Fitz to not be made aware of the contents of the sealed v. sealed indictment - other than perhaps that one was filed? Fitz's statements about not anticipating any charges unless something new comes up would fit if the process of the sealed v. sealed means not even he get's to know what's in it.

Dredd, I don't know that anyone -can- back him up.. That is, we don't have access to the people he did.. we don't know what he was told.. we only have his word to go on. In that, we can't justifiably say "what he's saying is true", we can only say "would it require a conspiracy to clear Rove if he was going to be indicted before? sure.. but this wouldn't be the first time this Admin was lying to the public, or manipulating things behind the scenes. Therefore, we have no reason (as of yet) to doubt TruthOut's statements"..
Basically, he's on his own in his defense of his "sources". And from what I gather, if/when those sources turn out to have been misleading, he will out them in a heartbeat.. until then, he'll stick to his guns (rightly so) and profess that "inside sources told him"...
Personally, I don't see how you don't indict Rove and Cheney, from all the implications that have been in the press. When that much info is out there, normally, someone swings. I find it telling that Hogan was the judge "talked with", then all of a sudden, "nothing to see here folks, move along".. I mean, isn't Hogan the guy involved in a lot of the White House cases, seemingly running interference for them? Perhaps he told Fitzy straight out (behind closed doors, and off the record, of course) "nope, not gonna bring Rove up on charges, not now, not ever. Deal with it.. Oh, and I'm gaging you on this matter.. talk and I'll put you in prison for 50 years on violating the National Secrets Act"..
It's a mess, to be sure. And one that we'll not get to the bottom of as long as the corrupt Republicans are in control of the comittees in D.C. (and perhaps not even when they are gone and "business as usual" Dems are in control).

I would like everyone in our area who understands the issue to come to the meeting (7 PM at the Downtown Public Library in Tacoma)armed with the Bobby Kennedy article and any other information that will help her understand the issue. Democrats have to take a stand against the use of these for-profit, unverifiable election machines. You asked:
I have one question ... Is it possible for Fitz to not be made aware of the contents of the sealed v. sealed indictment - other than perhaps that one was filed?
It is possible, but not likely.
It would take a well informed grand jury to know their rights. One grand jury back in the day ended up indicting the prosecutor!!
But that was back in the day. The judges and legislators of our country have been watering down the power of the grand jury, and I would be surprised if any grand jury these days would become bold enough to take on a prosecutor and/or judge.
All that being said, it is certain that unnatural and non-normal machinations have taken place.
I said a good six months ago that Rove would not be indicted because Fitz had been compromised with an offer he could not refuse.
But perhaps the grand jury wanted an indictment period, no matter what Fitz indicated. That is a more likely scenario.
Under the federal rules these days, under normal proceedings, the prosecutor has to sign the indictment, and he may have refused to.
In that case we could have a sealed, unsigned indictment, which Fitz refused to sign because he had been compromised.
If that is the case then the grand jurors are now being intimidated and action is taking place to shut them down. We shall see if they hold the fort if that is the case.
Remember, the powers that be said there would be no indictment of Rove "at this time".
Things are getting curiouser and curiouser, and I think the story should be kept alive if at all possible.
It is possible that Truthout is correct, but also, like Savantster at post #95 says, many things could be happening.

Brad is, quite rightly I think, putting all his personal energy and the energy of this blog into the issue of ELECTION REFORM.
While I don't devalue the importance of other issues like 9/11, Rove, Fitzgerald, Cheney, Impeachment, Abramoff, Dubai, NSA, Darfur, Corruption, Lying, Theft, etc. I just think they should be dealt with at different blogs.
I love the fact that if there is an ELECTION issue, I know right where to go --- here! For other Republican scandals and crimes, there is RawStory, BuzzFlash, Truthout, INNworldreport, freepress (also great for Ohio election news), and so many others.
Let's keep discussion here at bradblog to what we can do to have honest elections.

OK, so, then, Fitz could release himself temporarily (by not signing the indictment which then gets automatically sealed) so that other information within the indictment (which may implicate other higher ups) would not have to be publicized and possibly compromise getting the next guy under investigation? Cold, warm, hot?

Charlie L. While I agree that the main thrust of The Brad Blog should be election reform, when it is solid election reform, it gets too dry, technical, abstruse, monotonous for even the most avid proponents of settling this issue. There has to be other stuff to keep the troops from being so bogged down in it they can't move, and to help interest more troops. We have to be able to have a little fun, blow off steam about the range of things bothering us, find out about stuff not given air in the rest of the media. Something you might be forgetting is that a LOT of web users very quickly tire of batting all over hell and gone, narrow their visits to a few choice sites, and feel better about it because it mitigates the worry that they are exposing themselves to a lot of complete bunk that is being put forth as fact.
I think Brad recognizes this. See his apology for keeping the focus so narrow lately, and witness this open thread for us to communicate about other things. Most of us are deadly serious about election reform, but BURN OUT is a huge risk, more likely with this kind of subject matter, and will produce casualties in the clinch.

I agree with Agent99 in that we all need a distraction from time to time. This is an open thread were everyone can throw out anything on their mind and even bring in humor.
I first came to Bradblog within weeks of the 2004 elections. At one point I totaly burned out on all the discussions and only checked in rarely. I stop posting comments and went on with life.
I don't recall what thread it was that brought me back to the fold, but now that I'm back I enjoy the camaraderie here which I haven't been able to find at other blogs. Many of the commentors have been here since I first came and we like to share other thoughts as well. We look forward to these open threads in order to stay on topic on the others. It's kind of like Brad is letting us out to recess.
Yes - election reform is the main topic and cause here,
but can you survive on a steady diet of one food?

The Charlie L blog can be whatever you bloody well want it to be, but fuck off in deciding what the brad blog "should" be, (mores based on a stilted vision?), and get out of our collective face.
I have never seen Brad "put all his personal energy" into any issue over time.
Speak to the issues like we bloggers do, and leave it at that.
The blogger in chief decides what this friggin blog should or should not do, and we bloggers will decide to stay here or not.
He is liberal me thinks, like all venerable rebels with a cause, hence, many aficionados there be who get it dude.
So conform my brotha ... and get out of "just Oregon" ... or what will become of you?
If you keep your discussion to "honest elections" you will have very little, if anything, to talk about. They are hard to find these daze my brotha ...

Dredd,
Lou Dobbs reported on the Dubai ports issue last night, and he was white-hot. "Did they think we wouldn't NOTICE?" he asked quietly and directly into the camera. He has his blind spots (e.g. reporting tonight on the questionable voting machine issue and then segeing directly into a piece on Bilbray's "win" because of his stance on immigration), but I usually watch him. He needs encouragement to cover issues no one else will touch - however inadequately for the most part.

Really OT...but sort of on-topic...didn't understand these lyrics, I was just a little kid when this song was out from the early 70's. Since this is an open thread, here you go...........
Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death's construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds.
Oh lord, yeah!
Politicians hide themselves away.
They only started the war.
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah.
Time will tell on their power minds,
making war just for fun.
Treating people just like pawns in chess,
wait till their judgement day comes, yeah.
Now in darkness world stops turning,
ashes where the bodies burning.
No more War Pigs have the power,
Hand of God has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, God is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
Begging mercies for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings.
Oh lord, yeah!

Do you not see a preview box directly below the panel in which you write your comment and above the code number thingy? It is automatic - it appears as soon as you type something. No button to push or time to wait.
If you don't see it you may want to email Brad and give him your operating system and the browser you use. There may be a glitch (don't ya just love that word) in the new software specific to your system.

He'a a Catholic, a Hindu, an Atheist, a Jain,
A Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew.
And he knows he shouldn't kill,
And he knows he always will,
Kill you for me my friend and me for you.
And he's fighting for Canada,
He's fighting for France,
He's fighting for the USA,
And he's fighting for the Russians,
And he's fighting for Japan,
And he thinks we'll put an end to war this way.
And he's fighting for Democracy,
He's fighting for the Reds,
He says it's for the peace of all.
He's the one who must decide,
Who's to live and who's to die,
And he never sees the writing on the wall.
But without him,
How would Hitler have condemned him at Dachau?
Without him Caesar would have stood alone,
He's the one who gives his body
As a weapon of the war,
And without him all this killing can't go on.
He's the Universal Soldier and he really is to blame,
His orders come from far away no more,
They come from here and there and you and me,
And brothers can't you see,
This is not the way we put the end to war.

"STAR SPANGLED LADY"
BY SHANNON WILLIFORD & JOE HUNTER
Come on my dear; you know I can't bear to leave ya here
Do me one favor this time; and come on walk outside
He was our only child, like his dad he grew up wild
Military man moving from place to place; give him his space
'Cause our Billy he ain't gonna call
It's been twenty years this fall
you know war is hell; I hurt I ache to get you well
You were my Star-Spangled Lady
Black eyed beauty smiles proud to see
Gave your men to your country maybe
Strength for free - Bill and me
We used to talk and laugh (my memories of our other half)
Uniform ends our Viet Nam war with steel-eyed knock at the door
You sit and stare out the window; conversations you don't start
Curls of smoke round your head, years of tears in your heart
But our Billy, he ain't gonna call
It's been twenty-five years this fall
you know war is hell
I hurt I ache to get you well
'Cause you were my Star-Spangled Lady
Dark-eyed beauty shines bright to see
Gave your men to your country maybe
Strength for free; Bill and me
I'm back from the store; out of smokes gotcha some more
It's been a long lonely life; still I'm proud you're my wife
But our Billy, he ain't gonna call
It's been thirty years this fall
you know war is hell
I hurt I ache to get you well
Writer’s Notes: Star-Spangled Lady
This tune is based on a true story. My dad had a neighbor, a WWII vet, that talked about his wife when he and my dad would get together, but she never was around. He later explained that she was sitting by the phone waiting for a call from her boy who had disappeared many years earlier in Viet Nam.
I fictionalized a story from that. We did it as a Petty-like story in Eyewitness Blues, and I did a Nashville guitar and harp demo with Goose that led to the Stew deciding to record it. Interestingly, we rarely perform it live, as it doesn’t really fit our up-tempo party mode. We do most of the time at The Bluebird here in Nashville on songwriter nights. It seems to reach people in that environment...
We recorded the tune in early 2000. I later learned how to play it on guitar, to play what I’d always heard in my head but never been able to completely get from a guitarist, probably because it was too simple. I was bummed that we’d recorded it already, before I had grabbed the “correct” way to play it. But, not wanting to slow down the album project or make waves with the band, I decided to deal with the song as is at the final mix listening session. I was not gonna bitch or insist on re-cutting.
As I heard the final version, I was moved to tears. Producer Jerrod Kring had taken the song and made it heart-breakingly beautiful to my ears. The moody piano Goose plays, Picnic’s soaring, aching slide, Patio’s harmony; what a fine combination of performances Jarrod put together. And I have to thank him and Patio for insisting we re-cut the vocal.
I don’t know if anyone else will ever care for the song, but to me, it’s a beautiful piece of collaborative musical art.

There are many very competent, very intellectual, and very honest people who think that the 9/11 Commission Report is wrong, and possibly even a cover up.
Their numbers are increasing daily, and when Zogby did a poll, it was shocking. It seems that the general public is not buying the government story.
These folks even call themselves scholars for 911 truth. So whether or not one agrees with their argument, the fair minded individual recognizes that this is a substantial movement that has some major players within it.

Very interesting! Glad you posted that! I'm always glad to see that there is a BIG difference between the parties, and that's one heck of an important vote.
One thing about that issue though. I happened to catch a press conference with Democratic congressmen Jim Moran and Jack Murtha where they took questions from the audience.
A young girl took the mike and brought up the fact that Rumsfeld had admitted to the military losing over TWO TRILLION (YES TRILLION) dollars. He brought it up the day after 9/11.
Murtha said he thought that was an exageration, but Moran was VERY uncomfortable, and said he thought it couldn't be true. The girl kept insisting she saw it on the CBS News. I looked it up, and she was right!

For Agent 99 and Dredd: The 9/11 business reminds me so much of J.F.K.'s assassination. The official story doesn't wash, but there are so many tangents extending in different directions that it's hard to know which one to pursue to find the truth.
Zapruder film shows J.F.K. being hit by a shot from a 2 o'clock position (grassy knoll area), Tower # 7 collapses without being struck by anything.
Mohammed Atta seen on Jack Abramoff's yacht just before 9/11, Jack Ruby seen inside Dallas P.D. during Oswald's questioning.
Suicide bombers trained in U.S., Oswald given security clearance even after deserting U.S. for Soviet Union.
Warnings about 9/11, and J.F.K. murder, were ignored.
J.F.K. autopsy conflicts with findings by doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital, forensic evidence in New York and Washington conflicts with official 9/11 story.
It's easier to know you're not getting the truth than knowing exactly what the truth is.

... half (49.3%) of New York City residents and 41% of New York citizens overall say that some of our leaders "knew in advance that attacks were planned on or around September 11, 2001, and that they consciously failed to act"

For Dredd et al.: The Leopold story in Truthout is now being debunked as a figment of Leopold's imagination. He does have a history of exaggeration and even inventing stories, as well as for honest journalism.
If there were a sealed indictment, and/or if the grand jury were planning to indict Rove over Fitzgerald's head (which they are allowed to do), I can't believe Fitz would have failed to contradict Rove's lawyer, who said he'd received a letter that Rove won't be indicted. Rove must be in the clear. But Truthout is sticking to its guns, which is very strange...they're forfeiting all their credibility, it seems to me.
Valerie Plame is planning to sue Rove separately. It's possible Fitz' silence is an effort to not prejudice that case. If he said, "Rove committted no crime," it could hurt Plame's civil action. By saying nothing publicly, Fitz is saying in effect, "We couldn't prove a criminal case in court, but there remains plenty of evidence that Rove did compromise Plame's status."

Well, Shannon, I've read it in at least three separate stories, and nobody has debunked it. Jack Abramoff owned a huge yacht which was used as an offshore casino; two or three days before 9/11 (by the testimony of several witnesses), one of Abramoff's guests onboard was Mohammed Atta.
He might have been there to gamble, sure. But he also might have been in Atlantic City or Las Vegas, where more people go. It's just one of those "loose threads"
that don't prove a thing alone, but fit a pattern of conspiracy.

For Bluebear2: I'm just speculating about Fitzgerald's possible motives, not endorsing them. He's been pretty consistent when it comes to not commenting on cases, so I don't think he needs an excuse for remaining silent in the wake of Luskin's claim that Rove was not being indicted. If Luskin were lying, Fitz would have a duty to respond, so I think Rove must be in the clear (from a criminal standpoint only). You're absolutely right that he's not off the hook altogether.
Whether Fitz made the right call is another matter. Rove came back five times to "clarify" earlier testimony; I'd argue that Fitz bent over backward to help him avoid indictment. One Washington lawyer with experience in these matters said, "I'd have indicted Rove for perjury after his first testimony."

The New Robber Baron Era
Krugman points out the real basis for the hyper partisanship in American politics.
Class War Politics
By Paul Krugman
In case you haven't noticed, modern American politics is marked by vicious partisanship, with the great bulk of the viciousness coming from the right. It's clear that the Republican plan for the 2006 election is, once again, to question Democrats' patriotism.
But do Republican leaders truly believe that they are serious about fighting terrorism, while Democrats aren't? When the speaker of the House declares that "we in this Congress must show the same steely resolve as those men and women on United Flight 93," is that really the way he sees himself? (Dennis Hastert, Man of Steel!) Of course not.
So what's our bitter partisan divide really about? In two words: class warfare. That's the lesson of an important new book, "Polarized America: The Dance of Ideology and Unequal Riches," by Nolan McCarty of Princeton University, Keith Poole of the University of California, San Diego, and Howard Rosenthal of New York University.
"Polarized America" is a technical book written for political scientists. But it's essential reading for anyone who wants to understand what's happening to America.
What the book shows, using a sophisticated analysis of Congressional votes and other data, is that for the past century, political polarization and economic inequality have moved hand in hand. Politics during the Gilded Age, an era of huge income gaps, was a nasty business — as nasty as it is today. The era of bipartisanship, which lasted for roughly a generation after World War II, corresponded to the high tide of America's middle class. That high tide began receding in the late 1970's, as middle-class incomes grew slowly at best while incomes at the top soared; and as income gaps widened, a deep partisan divide re-emerged.
Both the decline of partisanship after World War II and its return in recent decades mainly reflected the changing position of the Republican Party on economic issues.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before the 1940's, the Republican Party relied financially on the support of a wealthy elite, and most Republican politicians firmly defended that elite's privileges. But the rich became a lot poorer during and after World War II, while the middle class prospered. And many Republicans accommodated themselves to the new situation, accepting the legitimacy and desirability of institutions that helped limit economic inequality, such as a strongly progressive tax system. (The top rate during the Eisenhower years was 91 percent.)
When the elite once again pulled away from the middle class, however, Republicans turned their back on the legacy of Dwight Eisenhower and returned to a focus on the interests of the wealthy. Tax cuts at the top — including repeal of the estate tax — became the party's highest priority.
But if the real source of today's bitter partisanship is a Republican move to the right on economic issues, why have the last three elections been dominated by talk of terrorism, with a bit of religion on the side? Because a party whose economic policies favor a narrow elite needs to focus the public's attention elsewhere. And there's no better way to do that than accusing the other party of being unpatriotic and godless.
Thus in 2004, President Bush basically ran as America's defender against gay married terrorists. He waited until after the election to reveal that what he really wanted to do was privatize Social Security.
Pre-New Deal G.O.P. operatives followed the same strategy. Republican politicians won elections by "waving the bloody shirt" — invoking the memory of the Civil War — long after the G.O.P. had ceased to be the party of Lincoln and become the party of robber barons instead. Al Smith, the 1928 Democratic presidential candidate, was defeated in part by a smear campaign — burning crosses and all — that exploited the heartland's prejudice against Catholics.
So what should we do about all this? I won't offer the Democrats advice right now, except to say that tough talk on national security and affirmations of personal faith won't help: the other side will smear you anyway.
But I would like to offer some advice to my fellow pundits: face reality. There are some commentators who long for the bipartisan days of yore, and flock eagerly to any politician who looks "centrist." But there isn't any center in modern American politics. And the center won't return until we have a new New Deal, and rebuild our middle class.

For Agent 99: The laws of physics...that would be another common thread between the J.F.K. assassination and 9/11.
I hope Ronald Wieck isn't reading this, but Newton's laws of motion prohibit a projectile from changing course in mid-air unless and until an outside force(e.g., deflection off a surface, wind, gravity, friction) causes it to do so. The Zapruder film shows J.F.K.'s head being struck at the right front (2 p.m. viewed from the Book Depository) and his brain matter sprayed to the back left (8 p.m., ditto).
The Warren Commission, and everyone else who thinks Oswald acted alone (or wants US to think so), would have us believe Oswald fired that shot. Not possible, unless some force (see above) interfered with the projectile's movement, because Oswald was at 6 p.m. relative to the motorcade at that precise moment (not in dispute). Could gravity, wind, or friction have done this? Surely not. Could a deflection off a surface have done it? Possibly, but no one has alleged this, no doubt because there was no surface anywhere near the limousine.
I don't know the physics of 9/11 as well as you do, certainly not as well as the Brigham Young professor does. But it's downright scary that public figures like Gerald Ford, Arlen Specter, Richard Posner (author), Thomas Mallon (author), and others who say Oswald was a lone assassin can argue against the laws of physics and maintain credibility. If 9/11 heats up as an issue, we can expect it to happen again, because the truth is "too dangerous."
Tom Cruise..."I want the truth!"
Jack Nicholson..."You can't handle the truth!"

Thanks for the Austia link - I found this there also. I about fell out of my chair when near the end he is so proud of the AIDS money he is sending to Africa. (Reference my post #6 this thread!)
It sure is great when the people can protest and voice their opinion freely as they are doing in Austria, with the police helping keep the way clear. Instead of the way it is here with the barricades and "Free speech zones" and rows of cops with shields, guns and tear gas.
I remember an incident at my college which displayed the foibles of an adversary attitude by the police.
There was a demonstration against Mel Laird (Secretary of Defense) and the Vietnam war on the steps of the Gym building. Earlier in the day the demonstration had been at the airport in Wausau when Laird flew in on Air Force 1. An effigy of Laird was to be burned in that protest, but security kept it away, so it was burned in the street in fron of the gym.
The fire department came to put it out and were good natured about it and everyone had fun extinguishing the pieces of paper that flew away when the fire hoses hit it. It was all peacefull and our point was made.
The permit from the university for the demonstration ran until 9:00. At that point the maintenance people shut off the power to the band. Everyone stayed and the band went acoustic. Dancing in the street and all that.
About an hour later this huge truck showed up bearing the "Police Dept" insignia and painted all black and white. No one had ever seen that before!
Out poured about 50 officers with helmits, shields, battons, teargas guns and every sort of aggressive accompaniment.
Almost instantly the mood changed. Hundreds of people came pouring out of the dorms picking up whatever they could throw along the way. It became a big standoff in no time at all.
The organizers of the demonstration went over and talked to the Sheriff and advised him he would soon have a riot on his hands. The 50 or so officers were re-deployed back into the truck and left. Within about another 45 minutes everyone had gone home.
It makes me wonder about the way things were handled in New York at the convention and Seattle at the Free Trade summit.

agent99,
All I am claiming is that I saved a notepad file using the random letters and letters of the alphabet, in the form zzzz zzz zzzz zzzzz, four letters, space, three letters, space, three letters, space, five letters. You close it and then reopen it. Nine zeros appear. I copied those zeros and pasted them into the translator. Here’s the translator I used:
http://perso.orange.fr/gaoling/hanzi/index.htm
The zeros appear in the translator as Chinese characters. I translate those characters and up pops a bunch of words, I wrote the words down and looked at them.
When the words come out:
z - Air; sky; empty; air force; in vain, air defense, low altitude, anti-aircraft defense.
y - A sacrifice at the beginning of a military campaign, cult. Manifest.
x - Rocky hill,
w - Eye; look, see; wide open eyes; to gaze in astonishment, blind; unperceptive, shortsighted, straight, erect, vertical, close eyes, sleep; hibernate, hypnotism; mesmerism, people, subjects, citizens.
v - Fatigued, head sores, chronic disease, chronic illness; sorrow. Legs.
u - Field,
t - Twin gems,
s - Commit crime, violate; criminal,
q - Fire, flame, burn, anger, rage, ashes, dust, lime, to roast, spirit, soul, spiritual world. Sacrificial animal.
p - Small river, gray ash, dust, engineer, physicist, head covered in dust.
I say that's a pretty amazing coincidence to 911.
Others, the other hand may think those words have nothing to do with 911.
That's their opinion, and I respect it.

Dear Bluebear2, dear: I've only had steady access to the internet for just under a year, but have been hollering about the fascism in America for a long time. I became really popular for it over at HuffPo in its opening months. We have had the tendencies for a long, long time, but now, with this administration, all of the checks on it, not just the governmental ones, have been thrown off. When we were slapping down the Vietnam War, we were hollering about the pernicious corporations, and "the establishment" was spoiling for some good old fashioned police state action, barely held back... scared themselves at Kent State. Now. They are not being held back. They are still being sneaky about it, but you will note that all demonstrations are attended by authorities with video cameras, compiling dossiers on agitators. This is why we have to get the numbers out there to stop it. They can't cope with huge masses of peaceful demonstrators. The only way to stop this outright fascist regime, if we really can't get Congress to do it, is masses in the streets bigger than anyone has ever seen before. It has to come down to the "crowd control" people being so afraid of a riot they will unquestionably lose, or we remain hostage to our fear and their rapine forever. I will throw myself bodily behind furthering the assurance of electoral integrity, help Brad in any way he may ever deem necessary, but if we lose this fight for our democracy, the only remedy will be the streets by the tens of millions. I mean, I don't feature China coming over and improving our lot for us, do you?

Agent 99, Luv your posts. Interesting, good humour and spelling.
"I can at least holler at people who won't look at the unbreakable laws of physics"
Karma is that law, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Just thinking about the inaction. If a force is applied to you and you don't push back or change direction you will just fall over the cliff.(or whatever)
If the earth stops spinning it can no longer keep itself from hurtling towards the sun. It is then consumed because it cannot move.
Of course the earths movement is projectile from an initial push. Maybe the big bang.
Human movement is consious choice. Death will come more quickly if we don't push back at other forces pushing at us.
Hope that one doesn't suck the luster from your life. You may wish to forget it!
Thats just base physics. There's not much joy in life viewed only in its context is there?

Regarding 9/11, there's a third possibility beyond 1) the official verdict that the twin towers collapsed because of heat from the suicide planes and 2) that it was an "inside job" arranged by or acquiesced in by the Bush administration.
The case for deliberate demolition seems strong. But if I were planning something like this, would I depend on the heat from planes to collapse the towers, given that this had never happened before and that the buildings had been built to withstand such an attack? Or would I use the suicide bombers as a cover for a demolition and hope that people would be fooled?
If we put ourselves in the perpetrators' shoes, the second approach is more logical. A cover-up by the administration still makes sense, to the extent that it doesn't have to answer tough questions, like "Who allowed people into the buildings to plant the explosive devices?" and "Was this really al Qaeda, and if so why did we stop looking for Osama bin Laden?"
Building #7 is the wild card here, in that it almost proves the case for a demolition. My hunch is that suicide bombers were supposed to hit that building, too, but something went awry...they chickened out, or maybe failed to hijack the plane in time.

The rest of the time I'm way big on defying them, like Jet Li and like in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon....
RLM: I'd say certain people, and plenty of them, had detailed prior knowledge of a planned attack, and embellished on it instead of preventing it. They planted charges and bombs in all the WTC buildings, and added in the Pentagon MISSILE strike in order to make it look as if we were under attack, as opposed to merely victims of suicide hijackers. The fact that at least half of the so-called hijackers are still alive means, at least, that they also embellished on the size of the "Islamist conspiracy" as well. They didn't count on #7 being so unscathed as to make its collapse look completely bogus.

GWbu$$h and Bill Clinton Looking more and more like philandering blood brothers.
Wayne Madsen Reports :
June 15, 2006 --- Although the major media and the White House spinmeisters have worked overtime to squash the story of marital problems between George W. Bush and Laura Bush over the reported affair between the President and his Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, WMR is continuing to pursue it. We recently learned from a noted Washington socialite that Laura Bush has been seeing an old romantic flame, described as a wealthy businessman from Texas. Mrs. Bush is said to have been comforted by the male friend over the years as she weathered her husband's various extramarital trysts.
Laura's revenge: she's seeing an old flame.
We continue on the story and, unlike the major media, we care as much about Bill and Hillary's marriage issues as we do about those of Millard and Abigail Fillmore.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again Wayne Madsen Reports :
June 19, 2006 --- American Media, which owns the tabloids National Enquirer, The Star, and The Globe, and which scooped the mainstream media on Gary Hart's affair with Donna Rice on "Monkey Business II"; Bill Clinton's affair with Gennifer Flowers and salacious details about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky; and Jesse Jackson's illegitimate child has published details of the George W. Bush-Condoleezza Rice relationship and his problems with First Lady Laura Bush in the current, June 26, 2006 issue of The Globe. WMR is quoted in the story.
They got it right about extra-marital affairs of Gary Hart, Bill Clinton, and Jesse Jackson. Now, they have the goods on George W. Bush. There goes Dubya's "5 percent poll bounce." Word from the South: This story ain't playing well among Dubya's white, fundamentalist base, his last bastion of support.

As I posted in other threads, a prosecutor must sign the indictment under the federal rules. If he does not, in apparent disagreement with the Grand Jury, it goes into some further consideration, and would be under seal.
There are very, very strange things happening and titanic struggles behind the scenes. It is the Archibald Cox syndrome all over again.
RE my post #129
Muslim's outside the US have the same general viewpoint as New Yorkers it seems:
In what the Pew Global Attitudes Project called one of the survey's most striking findings, majorities in Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, and Turkey - Muslims countries with fairly strong ties to the United States - said, for example, that they did not believe that Arabs carried out the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York and Washington

For Dredd: I agree with you that the entire matter of Rove's status is bizarre. There's a missing piece to the puzzle.
Slightly off topic, but this is an open thread: Today's New York Times (the paper that never assigned an investigative reporter to the 2004 election) gave its left-column front page over to a potential scandal that has "21st Century Gilded Age" written all over it. Does this sound anything like the Ray Lemme case (except that the guy is still alive)?
A Securities and Exchange Commission lawyer, Gary J. Aguirre, was investigating possible insider trading by Pequot Fund, based here in Connecticut. Pequot is an unregulated hedge fund, open only to multi-millionaire individuals and institutional investors. It had an uncanny knack for "guessing" when a major corporate takeover was about to take place...18 such guesses in a short period of time. All right on the money.
Aguirre wanted to question John Mack, a politically connected Morgan Stanley executive (and a major contributor to Bush) in connection with these trades; not that Mack was himself suspected of wrongdoing, but Aguirre thought his testimony would be helpful. At this point his bosses told Aguirre to "back off," for unexplained reasons. Aguirre persisted, and was fired.
Eleven days earlier Aguirre had been given a two-step merit pay increase and high praise from his boss for his work on the Pequot case. Then he was fired.
At least Aguirre is still alive. The Senate is looking into it, according to the Times article. Anyone want to place bets on how far the Senate's investigation will go? My bet: Bush has already told Frist to make it look good, but not to let it go anywhere, and not to comment on any "ongoing investigation."

More on spying and ID theft: it was revealed the Bush administration has been monitoring bank transactions (without telling us of course), but says "it's only suspicious transactions, possibly linked to Al Queda".
Where have I heard that before? Oh, yeah! When Bush said he wasn't spying on us, then said the NSA is ONLY spying on International calls, then it was revealed he's SPYING ON ALL AMERICANS!!!!!!!!
So, now with the bank transaction spying, first they didn't admit it...then when it was revealed (which is NOW), Bush says it's only highly suspect transactions and only terrorists. Step 3 will be, HE'S MONITORING ALL OF OUR BANK TRANSACTIONS!!!!!!!!!
This story was totally buried in my local paper, about page 15, 1 column. No big deal.

Exactly what will it take, for rightwingers to see that they are being screwed, too??? I don't even believe these rightwingers are for real, I think they're shills, because even lots of conservative Republicans are against Bush. I'd really like to meet these rightwingers who comment on this blog. You'll probably find out they also work for the RNC up in New England.

As November rapidly approaches,.. the right-wing
infiltrators/instigators to progressive blogs will
likely increase. Their mindless comments are specifically designed to deflect attention from valid/genuine issues that progressives hope to discuss/address prior to this coming election.
Hampering the ability of the opposition to organize,..
will enhance their ability to maintain the status-quo.
Expect them to dismantle any cohesiveness that the left
attempts to bring to our political equation.

At least it made Page 1 of the Sacramento Bee - opposite the story about the "terrorists" caught in Florida.
They sure are drumming up this "See we're catching all the terrorists and finding all the WMDs" aren't they? Hmm must be an election coming!
