The ability of these people to shamelessly lie is unprecedented. I was listening to Thom Hartmann today and he was saying he thought the Republican's conscience is getting to them. This may be the case with some of the rank and file, but as for the leadership I haven't seen evidence of it.

So, has anybody ever hear about Jeff Gannon/James Guckert actually being Johnny Gorsch (not sure about spelling), the original milk carton kid? I remember that the late great Andy Stephenson was on TV (MSNBC?) with Gorsh's mom saying that Gannon/Guckert was Johnny. It involved a sordid tale of being snatched from the streets as a 10 year old (in the 80s) and re-appearing 7 or 8 years back to visit his mom for a few minutes, telling a horrible story of being molested as a child by the rich and powerful. After visiting his mom, Johnny vanished again. Andy knew Mom Gorsh and, thru a tip, heard that all the JGs were the same guy. On TV, Gannon would not give a straight answer as to if the poor woman was his mom.
All in all, a really horrible story...

If you page down to a grey box in the article, a fraternity brother was interviewed and states:

I was ready to get all hot and bothered and tell people to fire off complaints to Coulter's host ISP, but I don't see anything on her site that even comes close to abuse. I do see the professional contact info supplied by Lydia. I do not see any personal info whatsoever.

Perhaps Coulter removed the offending info in response to TOS/AUP complaints. If so, great. Perhaps someone misinterpretted the professional contact info supplied as personal. Whatever, it does no good to complain to her host at this point.

For JN: I'd agree with you except for one thing. Jeff Gannon had information about Valerie Plame's identity at the time Robert Novak published it. If not for that fact, he'd be just another example of a prostituted reporter (in more ways than one) doing the White House's bidding. The fact that someone gave this information to him (so top-secret that Robert Woodward kept quiet about it for two years!) can only mean that person, whoever it was, had untoward motives.

In other words, it's not about Gannon, it's about whoever tipped him off about Valerie Plame. The fact that Gannon, a reporter without credentials, was allowed to roam the White House at will in violation of Secret Service guidelines, coming and going without the proper pass, strongly suggests that people inside the White House are responsible for his having privileged information about a C.I.A. operative.

Any brouhaha regarding his private information vs. Ann Coulter's is relatively trivial, I agree.

The media have avoided "Gannongate" as if it were the black plague, I think because they think it's about gay sex. It's really about security violations and manipulation of news.

We assume Gannon was allowed to roam the White House at will because he was "romantically involved" with someone on the inside. Possibly, but by focusing on that aspect we convert an important issue into a National Enquirer-type story. Even if gay sex were the reason Gannon had access, by speculating on whom he was bopping we lose the forest for the trees.

Gannon didn't have the permanent pass that most journalists have. He was using an alias. He roamed the White House virtually at will, in violation of Secret Service regulations, and even though he wasn't a real journalist he was invited to White House functions along with the Washington hoi polloi. At some point he was told that Valerie Plame was a C.I.A. employee...this was privileged information to which he would not have been entitled, even if he had been a real reporter. So we have a violation of White House security rules and the further betrayal of a C.I.A. operative.

The gay issue has kept this from becoming a story, by itself becoming the story on the blogs. Revulsion against the press for having made Monicagate into a constitutional crisis has resulted in their no longer being willing to touch anything that smacks of sex, even when the sex is a red herring in the story.

Please try to revive this story. I think it's absurd that Clinton was impeached for a private heterosexual affair but this breach of national security never even gets investigated.
