Like Carter gives a flying fuck.
The 2004 American election didn't meet the standards his group applies to other countries.
Good thing Carter so tirelessly protested that fact, huh?
Remember: It was Carter who got the fund-Islamofacists ball rolling.
Thanks, Jimmy!

I think appealing to Carter is a wise endeavor. I believe Carter does care. Conyers is on the right track with attempting close communication with him. Also, WE can try communicating with Carter with our concerns.

This commision was a lost cause as soon as it was announced what, two, three, four weeks ago now?
The fact that ACVR is now on the advisory board just shows that all the effort we and others put into exposing ACVR weeks ago has gone for naught. Maybe they will be exposed for what they are at some time in the future but I don't find that likely.
Does all I've said make me a pessimist? Maybe, but it also makes me a realist. What headway are we making here? My advice is to find the nearest protest this week, weekend, month, whatever, and get out in the streets and yell at these motherf#&?!rs as loud as you can because they're not listening so far.

We aren't going to get anything done about it alone...
Keep carrying printed copies until everyone you meet has the story. Instruct them to pass it on when they've read it. Even if the story ends up in the gutter someone new will see it and be enlightened.
What other choice do we have?

WTF??
The lawyer for the Bush-Cheney campaign is on the commission posing as a non-partisan?
If James Baker and Troy Hearne are both on this commission can it really be taken seriously?
Great scoop, Brad!

Glad to see Conyers pointing out the conflict of interest with Baker, now let's see him do the same with ACVR. Questions need to be asked as to why they are there at all and who invited them.
This commision is no place for paid partisan hacks of any colour. I'd hate to see a good man like Carter used to legitimize yet another Rove sponsored white wash. Hard questions need to be asked and softball answers from administration flunkeys will not suffice - we need the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
I suspect that once people start pushing for a genuine investigation into what went wrong in 2000 and 2004, the whole thing will be buried, but I'd love to be proved wrong.
Keep the faith all.

Another commission non-commission just like all and I mean 'all' the others and what is so neat is that they do not even try to finesse it, just boldly in your face pack it with stooges a patsy every so often. Sorry Carter, you are being 'had'!

Should be 'and a patsy'.
And 'they' are listening and 'they' do care.
That is what gives them pleasure-to do just what they want then give it a pass with a
non-commission, and hand out the medals. That is the hallmark of the sadist, and better than putting firecrackers in a frogs cloaca.
Another 'fooled ya again' ---how many times is it now?

Congressman Conyers, a truly great American, and his group will continue make history, along with Brad, as being true American Patriots in the"Velvet" American Revolution,
Jimmy Carter is intelligent, personable,"honest" and very humble. He's the greatest living American President and possibly in the history of America. If he can't focus attention on the US voting scandal then we have serious problems.
If former President Carter and Congressman Conyers can't stop Bush Fascism and thievery then Americans will have to simmer awhile before taking back there country … through "civil unrest".
Democracy will prevail.

It appears to me that once again, they are trying to gain legitimacy through the appointment of a respected Democrat, (Carter), to chair a commission which is heavily stacked with Republicans.
No matter what is revealed, discovered or suggested by the Democratic members, it will only spark a whirlwind of right wing spin and smear by the Republican members until the matter is dropped.
God help us!

Well, I was talking with a Conservative friend the other day.. seems he votes Repug despite their crimes and lies because he thinks they "put money back in his pocket so he can decide what causes to spend it on".. though, I've not seen that born out as "fact" in a significant sense..
Funny thing is, he would rather have government "error on the side of people, not companies".. yet he still insists on voting "right-wing" and believe all the crap the right spits about how "tin-foil hat wearing the left is".. he was having a very hard time getting his head around the idea that "curruption DOES occur in the US", despite all the historical evidence. It was amusing to use the same "tin-foil hat" phrase on him when he tried to implicate Dems at one point (I forget what we were talking about, specifically.. but it made him stop and think when I postulated his statement was exactly what he rubuffed Lefties for).
Though, he's trying to open his mind to the "voter irregularities" from 2004 (I had to promise to 'admit' Bush one if it was proved there was no hanky-panky.. I'm cool with that; I know there were serious problems). I sent him to Black Box Voting yesterday with the announcement of their "hacking a diebold machine".. made him think.
I guess the point is, there are a LOT of people out there that don't want to admit we have a problem. Showing them the "facts" isn't always enough because those "facts" draw fire of you being a conspiracy theorist. When you can get them to frame things properly, you have a better chance of breaking through, but without the MSM, we're fighting an uphill battle (the MSM reaches a LOT more people with lies than we can with the truth).
The fix might be in with this, we might just have to suck it up and be prepared for 6 - 8 more years of hell before we finally revolt.. People voting for Bush when they KNEW he lied over and over, but try to justify it and move the blame off of him is telling of how people just don't want to hear the truth about anything.. To say "Kerry wasn't able to run the country, Bush [despite his HUGE flaws] can do a better job" is a thought that boggles my mind. I flipping tomato plant could do a better job than Bush (and would be easier on the eyes too).

Conyers is certainly one of the few, it seems to me, truly worthy of respect. I can't praise him enough. And I was very impressed with the way Carter spoke at the convention...softly but articulately, without bombast. I have to believe there are some good, decent souls out there trying to make things right, though the image I have is one of a small band of scrawny Davids scraping the ground for pebbles to hurl at a two-ton Goliath (as Goliath & his cronies piss themselves in amusement).
On a sad note: riding home from work in the car I heard a Gulf War marine veteran call in to say that a proposal to increase veterans' benefits was brought by a female senator whose name escapes me (Murray?)...every Republican voted NO, he said.
Note to those, moral-high-ground, support-our-troops hypocrites:
You are worse than despicable. Your hearts are black, your hands are bloody. God in heaven, how do you justify it to yourselves? How?
Note to every good & decent Republican out there: please speak out against these blackguards who have highjacked your party. We need to stand together. This has gone far beyond partisan differences of opinion. We need to stand together & heal this country before it really is too late.

I'm with Da Wookie #10 - Conyers now has to expose ACVR for what it is - a newly created Bush administration plant for the purposes of illegitimately discrediting evidence on voting violations, abuses and fraud in the 2004 election, in order to ensure more of the same in 2006 and 2008. President Carter needs to be FULLY informed. And Rep. Conyers and Brad need our full support. God Bless them both.

20,000 - 25,000 people in China took to the streets this week to protest against Japan. The Chinese police were not able to physically control the crowds (though it is likely they did not wish to). When will Americans decide they have had enough...enough of the Bush administration and enough of the pathetic, deliberately misleading MSM?

BTW - I'm in favour of a Conyers/Friedman ticket, and it did also occur to me recently. No offense Brad, but if Bush has no more intelligence than a tomato plant (Savantster #18), and we believe that is the case, you will be able to work miracles in comparison. Also, you will have a regular income. But, in all seriousness, the career politicians have miserably failed the country. Actors and wrestlers are able to do the job, and so can any other intelligent individual who is genuinely interested in justice for everyone and the welfare of the country, and who is not afflicted with all the insider "crap" America is suffering under right now.

Contrary to #1, Jimmy Carter has been vocal about how awful we run elections, if he is asked. He is particularly irate about the way we put partisans in charge of the process. If you ask me, he is right: this is the most fundamental problem with our system.
That disqualifies Jim Baker, because he has a clear record of worsening the problem.

It's deja vu all over again.
Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford were the honorary
co-chairs of an election reform commission convened
after the 2000 election debacle. The commission's
report generated ideas for the Help America Vote Act.
The mainstream media seems to be unaware of
this earlier commission and how it ultimately failed
to bring about a restoration of election integrity.
Is the current commission poised to repeat history?

ACVR and NAACP
I called up the NAACP, and got ahold of the Director of Voting Empowerment, and chatted with the nice lady for about 20 minutes. I told her all about "non-partisan" ACVR, and how ACVR blames NAACP and some other left-leaning groups for all of the voter registration fraud that takes place. She found the ACVR website and was printing out the report while we chatted. She was unaware of ACVR's existance until I called. I told her she'd likely be outraged once she reads the ACVR report.
If your reading here ACVR, kiss my ass!

Carter should be put in jail for starting the secret court system:
"Executive Order 12139, signed by President Carter several months later, officially chartered the FISC"
The others on the commission are repugnant to the charter and it is laughable.

That the so-called "leaders" of America are also rejected due to their collusion with the demise of fair elections, and honest governing??????? "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink".

It will take a major recession, depression or natural disaster to motivate the over 30 crowd into action.
However, a military draft will motivate the college crowd and start the ball rolling.
Americans have to realize there vote didn't count, all government statistics are lies and world domintation is the Bush Elitists goal.
If my gut instinct is correct ... when the truth gets accepted. Americans will revolt against the US Government … the military verses it's citizens.
Not good...

First it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."

Carter is ok in my book. I think having someone on the inside in this process is necessary, and Carter fits the bill. Note that Jimmy may seem like a pushover, but he is really a man of strength and conviction. He may surprise us all. He is: A man of faith and peace. A man with a Nobel Prize, and the respect that goes with it. A man who knows the ins and outs of elections around the world. A man who has "gravitas" (I have come to hate that word since it was used to apply to Cheney, but I'd like it to come full circle and bite them on their fat asses.) Jimmy is just the guy to stand up to Baker. Note that Bush didn't take Jimmy to the pope's burial...Jimmy scares Georgie. Jimmy can't be bought, and he is the master of his own legacy. He has told the truth before, and paid the price for telling us what we didn't want to hear (the s word...sacrifice...as in there is no free lunch). can you tell? I'm a Carter fan.

#39, Clem --
I strongly disagree. The Carter-Baker commission is another secret GOP scam against democracy and the people. No real voting rights groups were notified or asked to participate. It is all but impossible to even contact them, let alone communicate with them.
If it was intended to be legit, why then was it formed in secret? Who's idea was it? What is it's intended purpose? Who decided who would sit on the panel? Where and on what dates will the panel be seated? What evidence will the panel be presented, when no one will be present that can introduce real evidence?
Until I get honest, verifiable answers and the panel is publicly accessible, it's a scam. Period.

Voter reform is definitely the agenda of this commission. Unfortunately the reforms being proposed are in favor of the influential and against the under prviliged, economicaly deprived and minorities of this country. If the same standards being proposed here were used in any other country such as Mexico it would be called an undue burden on voters. Also the idea of no accountability for electronic voting is like condoning election fraud by denying that hacking or devious methods can be employed by voting machine companies that have political motive and incentive to rig the vote. Now that exit polls are being said to be totally unreliable. Who can determine the reliability of electronic voting machines??
