From a blogger at Washington Post:
… [text of his letter]
April 17, 2007
Dear Colleague:
This week I intend to introduce Articles of Impeachment with respect to the conduct of Vice President Cheney. Please have your staff contact my office . . . if you would like to receive a confidential copy of the document prior to its introduction in the House.
Sincerely,
/s/
Dennis J. Kucinich
Member of Congress
UPDATE 4/18/07: Kucinich’s planned filing was postponed due to the VTech shootings, a reliable source tells us the Articles of Impeachment against Cheney will be filed in Congress next Wednesday.

This is great news. And perhaps that is how the sequence has to go. Get the paperwork going on Cheney first, so he can’t just resign and have Bush appoint someone else, THEN file against Bush as well.
Does anyone know if Cheney is prohibited from resigning if articles of impeachment are filed against him?
Good scoop, Brad!
Thank you, Dennis Kucinich.
My campaign contribution is on its way!
Never a prohibition on resigning, LeftIsBest.
Resigning would be wonderful. Then we could really put him on trial (assuming Chimp doesn’t pull a Ford.)
Kucinich has guts!
It takes a 2/3 vote for impeachment. The republicans have tended to vote as a block most of the time, so a 2/3 vote for impeachment in the House is not in the cards at this time.
Only the House can impeach, and only the Senate can convict.
And even if there was an impeachment in the House, the Senate must convict on a 2/3 vote as well. No chance at this time as yesterday’s filibuster action shows.
The republicans are filibustering the new Intelligence Bill (S. 372), which among other things, makes the budget amount for the CIA etc. no longer secret … it becomes the knowledge of the people … public.
As it now stands the budget is classified so we do not know the real deficit amount. The bill also requires the president to report to congress about any secret prisons, and makes it easier to convict officials like Rove and Libby for outing CIA agents.
Only two republicans voted to stop the fillibuster and move on to a floor vote on the new intelligence bill (Hagel, R-NE; and Snowe, R-ME; S 372 Filibuster Vote Link). All the other republicans are filibustering.
Since the republicans are filibustering the intelligence bill at the request of Cheney and Bush, I take it that they would fight an impeachment bill.
GO KUCINICH!
Thanks for the news.
We should all help him any way we can.
Please spread the news to all of your email lists and ask them to donate and send letters to Congress.
Perhaps write up an entry at congress.org and letters to the editor…
I’ve already gotten snail mail from the other side citing emergency donation required of hundreds and thousands of dollars to protect their “wonderful president” from impeachment. So we’d better get cracking.
Donating now…
To pass articles of impeachment the House only needs a simple majority (not a 2/3 majority). That being said, there is no way Senate Republicans would vote convict either Cheney or Bush so the 2/3 conviction majority is impossible at this time.
Wikipedia article on impeachment.
Nothing is “impossible” — that said, let’s get started! Thank you Dennis!
I have mentioned Dennis’ Impeachment efforts in my daily column for 4-19-07. My visitors are from all over the world (70 countries at last count) and all parts of the USA. My column has endorsed Dennis J. Kucinich for President ever since he announced. I proudly state that at the bottom of every daily column!
Thank you!!! I have sent so many letters, faxes, e-mails to Nancy Pelosi, my senators and reps, and anybody that would listen, to IMPEACH!!! At least, it needs to be on the record! Otherwise, I’m afraid they will spin gw into some sort great statesman – ugh!!! I just may vote in 2008 – DK!!!
