Who stands to benefit from the re-emergence of Bin Laden? The best spinners, I guess. I’m looking over the transcript of the video now, as posted on Drudge.
More on that as I go through it. But in the meantime, no doubt, the Bushies will spin this as proof that bin Laden supports the election of John Kerry. The Kerry team will spin this as proof that Bush took his eye off the ball, and use his statement that he was “truly not that concerned about him” to blast Dubya.
Now the Bushies are better spinners, in general, and have a far more sophisticated “spin apparatus” in place via their echo chamber control of the media. As well, this helps to get the awful al Qa-qaa news and the Administrations disastrous handling of same — being remarkably flat-footed and ham-handed in their many responses — off the news. So overall, I’m leaning towards Advantage: Bush on this one for the moment. But I don’t know yet.
What are your thoughts? Other than it’s the American people (and the world) who “lose” by bin Laden still being alive, who “wins” from today’s news on this?

UBL slamed Bush for his stupid handling of the War on Terror, yet he knows Kerry wil not be as dumb. Kerry has already stated that he will start to track down the individual terrorist.
Oue vote on November 2, 2004 will tell Al Qaeda and UBL that "We the People" are going to deal with them and the Middle East Leaders in the manner of who we put into office.
Bush’s failure of Kerry’s Goose Hunt!
Vote or Die!
Ok, so maybe my paranoia is settling in (or as some here may say, just coming out again) but I think its all too convenient to have this story drop just days before the election. I agree that the Bush team has much better spin control, but even more so, I think they have ability and the desire to make these terror tapes appear at will.
This undeniably helps the Bush team, and even mimics one of their campaign signs "9 out of 10 terrorists agree…"
Does THIS qualify as October surprise?
Vance, It just amplifies what Kerry and the rest of us has been saying about Bush’s lack of leadership. Remember, when Bush told us that he wanted UBL "Died or Alive." And than in the third debate Bush told us that he hardly ever thought of UBL.
No, UBL’s tape is just a reminder that "We the People" need to get back to business. 😉
Henry, I hope you’ll be around awhile after the courts finally make Kerry our president elect… then I can properly respond as to how sucessful the American people will be able to "get back to business." 🙂

Vance,
I’m with you on that. After this election I’ll be getting back into advocating not only for the homeless, but on how "We the People" can build the Real World our parents could only dream of. 😀
I think this is bad for Shrub…keep in mind that OBL represents the death of 3,000 people and the fact that Shrub abandoned the opportunity to avenge those deaths but instead changed course so dramatically to invade Iraq…and now, more than 1,100 more Americans have died and more than 8,000 are injured and/or permanently maimed is a disgrace for this admin…that is what the Kerry camp has to pound out to the World…additionally, it will be up to us Bloggers to keep the "unsecured and missing explosives" issue in the news because that represents even more deaths of Americans…we need to send letters to every editor of every newspaper who endorses John Kerry and e-mails to every network (even FOX!!!)…
Judy,
excellent points. Bush let him get away while at the same time choosing a war in Iraq that gave terrorists 280 tons of explosives.
One more thing. Judy is absolutely right about the explosives. They have already been used. Remember the article from the Tribune quoting an American military source:
"The insurgents probably are using weapons and ammunition looted from the nearby Qa-Qaa complex, a 3-mile by 3-mile weapons-storage facility about 25 miles southwest of Baghdad, said Maj. Brian Neil, operations officer for the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, which initially patrolled the area."

The emergence of bin Forgotten as well as the use of these weapons just left for looting (freedom means freedom to loot) should be the issues of the next two news cycles at least. Along with attempts to sypress the vote. We can’t stop writing everyonme we know.
