From last night’s V.P. Debate:

Meanwhile, back in Reality Land, where at least 3 meetings by Cheney and Edwards have already been verified, it is now revealed that Cheney has actually only provided over the Senate on two Tuesdays over his entire tenure! No wonder he doesn’t recall meeting Edwards in the Senate!
Incidentally, that’s the same number of Tuesdays that Edwards himself has presided over the Senate! Daily Kos has the embarrassing details this time from Reality Land…
This thing is becoming a disaster for Bush/Cheney. Cheney may have given the Dems a gift as good as Bush’s performance last week! Made-to-order, Cheney has in one fell swoop demonstrated on video, and in front of a national audience, everything that is wrong with both the Bush/Cheney campaign, and their four year reign of error, misleads and misinformation. Thank you, Mr. Cheney. A job well done.
Nice work with this Brad. I’ve been thinking about Jaime’s comments from the Post-Debat thread all day, where he says that Cheney is great at "lying with at straight face."
Ok, I’ll admit that I was taken in by the lying and twisted facts.. I can say that there was a reassuring tone to Cheney’s delivery that makes it sound all so convincing. Unfortunately I KNOW I’m not alone in this. The American public continues to be deceived by this game they play, with misdirection, distortion of the facts, and jedi mind tricks.
At this point, the "Jedi mind tricks" are their only hope. 🙂

It’s all about what Paul Virilio refers to as "speed". The faster and more voluminous of lies usually benefits the liar. This was why the Nazis defeated the left in Germany; they were able to disseminate their literature faster/ The internet and 24 hours news cycle can either exacerbate this situation or offer a serious corrective. The problem with the 24 hour news cycle is that they have a stake in the more adventurous of the political parties. Shock and awe makes for better tv than sensible politics. i do think, however, that they have been very responsible in the coverage of the vp debate. The fact that they dared peek at the man behind the curtain is amazing. It is clear by now for instance that Cheney lied about never having met Edwards before and that Cheney’s statement about being in the Senate on most tuesdays was horsecrap. In my opinion, the best news program is The Dasily Show.
