Check CNN, Fox Cable and MSNBC shows that Thursday about Noon for Bush's No Truth Test statement. While I normally watch CNN and Fox, I just can not remember if it was on all three or just those two. Additionally, anyone that covered that stump speech should have heard it.
Good luck hunting and if I can somehow help let me know. Meantime I'll try to find a web site also.
Found written:
Bush: "And once again last night with a straight face, the senator, shall we say, refined his answer on the proposed global test he would administer before acting to defend America. After trying to say it wasn't really a test at all, last night he once again defended his approach saying, I think it makes sense. The senator now says we have to pass some international truth standard. Those are his words." (Bush remarks (Las Vegas, Nevada), 10/14/04)
WHAT KERRY ACTUALLY SAID LAST NIGHT:
Kerry: "I have never suggested a test where we turn over our security to any nation. In fact, I've said the opposite: I will never turn the security of the United States over to any nation. No nation will ever have a veto over us. But I think it makes sense, I think most Americans in their guts know, that we ought to pass a sort of truth standard. That's how you gain legitimacy with your own countrypeople, and that's how you gain legitimacy in the world. But I'll never fail to protect the United States of America." (Third Presidential Debate (Tempe, Arizona), 10/13/04)
BUSH SPELLED OUT HIS OWN 'GLOBAL TEST':
"The United States will not use force in all cases to preempt emerging threats, nor should nations use preemption as a pretext for aggression. Yet in an age where the enemies of civilization openly and actively seek the world's most destructive technologies, the United States cannot remain idle while dangers gather. We will always proceed deliberately, weighing the consequences of our actions. To support preemptive options, we will: coordinate closely with allies to form a common assessment of the most dangerous threats..." (National Security Strategy of the United States of America 2002, Page 15)
