Election Night Coverage Open Thread, Part Three

Practice Saying 'President Obama'

Share article:

Brad’s been anchoring along with Peter B. Collins earlier, and then sorta with Mike Malloy, and shortly he will finish it out, bradcasting live from Los Angeles for the rest of the night from 9p-Midnight PT (Midnight-3am ET).

In other words, all night long, covering reported results and concerns about election issues around the country. If your local affiliate is not carrying it, listen live online right here.

The show thread started here earlier today, but everyone’s page will load and reload faster if we split this up. Part two of the open thread is here.

I think you will be able to hear Brad on both Peter B’s feed and NovaM’s after 9pm, Pacific Time.

***DON’T FORGET TO CHECK BELOW FROM TIME TO TIME BECAUSE THERE ARE GOING TO BE ELECTION NEWS UPDATES COMING ALL NIGHT.***

huddled around a radio in Oak Grove, Mo., i am beyond belief happy! after working the polls here all day, i’m exhausted & yet so giddy! love you, Brad- we must keep up the good fight, though & exile these EVMs to the junk pile where they belong.

Are we all as decrepit as it sounds like we are? I’m tellin’ ya, the last 8 years have taken a huge toll.

    She crashed her browser.

Rounded that corner round 90 miles an hour when the wheel on her browser broke.

CONTROL had just issued it without testing it first. Something about an unprotected infrared port.

The Ray Lemme case and the blackbox voting issue brought me here the end of ’04 … I think that’s right. CRS disease y’know.

I see Coleman took the latest lead over Franken. It’s hard to believe Franken doesn’t win that, since Obama won by such a large margin in Minnesota, and everyone up there loved Wellstone. That’s a weird one.

Yeah – I have a problem with GA calling it close for Senate [Jim Martin Dem. vs Saxby Chambliss Rep.]

There are, last I heard, 1M votes still not counted. I think it’s 2 of the most Pro-Obama counties, too.

That would give us 60 seats, no?

Anyway, that 60 thing is a retarded obstructionist move by doofus Mitch McConnell. Doesn’t have to be 60.

My son said he just got out of a rock concert up in Boston, and everyone found out that Obama won as they were walking out, and they all started screaming. Screaming in happiness, I mean…

Gov. Sonny Perdue said he was pleased that there appeared to be few problems with voting in Georgia.

Um – has he been soaking in a bubble bath for the last month???? Jeebus, these lying dirt bags.

No-No-No-No-No. We MUST get rid of the despicable, horrid machines. The poll tax of standing for half a day or longer in line & etc., et al.

Now we have to petition, quickly while the repubs are livid.

    Bluebear2 said on 11/4/2008 @ 10:56pm PT: [Permalink]

I worry now that a complacency will creep in regarding the voting machines and other disenfranchisement tactics since this election wasn’t stolen.

This system must be reformed, the machines ground to dust and reclaimed for their precious metals, and voting made easy and convenient for everybody.

We can not stop, the Dems must get on board.

MO, my state is still to close to call with 91% counted: 48% BO and 51% JM. Early polling showed Obama winning. Kinda’ smelly considering all the voting problems we’ve been having in MO. We do have a lot of racists and Republicans in MO. though.

BRAD, thank you, God bless you, and an American salute for all you and your contemporaries hard work.
    I know Americans appreciate you.
    You should be proud.
Though it may appear underated, our efforts were successful and this is a victory for you as well.
I wish I had the words to express my gratitude.

Yes. Maybe they won’t filibuster it now that their asses have been handed to them, even with their fucking filthy machines.

I smell a rat in Minnesota though. I don’t believe those numbers. Do they vote 100% on DREs?

Maybe Biden can be the first Vice President Senator who gets to give policy to the Senate… fulfill PigLips’ dream of the ideal vice presidency. 😉

Or probably the Governor appoints someone to serve until the next election. I think that’s how it’s usually done.

Although, there was an AP photo of the 106 year old black woman voting on a machine, and so Obama may just have been alluding to the visuals. She really DID touch the screen to vote, and that was one monster hairy deal that she got to vote for him before she dies.

  20. 72)
Kira said on 11/4/2008 @ 11:35pm PT: [Permalink]

Yea. That’s great, but I’ll bet she could have marked a ballot, too.

We must push hard now. There are a lot more reasons to trash the machines than there are to keep them. Hmmm … I don’t see anything listed on my why to keep them column.

At around 10pm last night, my wife and I were driving home from a Chinese buffet in Scranton, and we both heard Republican local NEPA WILK talk show host Sue Henry carrying on a conversation over their election coverage. We distinctly heard her say, “Jesus Christ! I just found out a personal conversation between me and Cathy Donnelly was broadcast over the airwaves. Can’t we get some friggin’ engineers around here that know what they’re doing???” That is paraphrased, but just about exactly what she said. We missed the first part of the conversation, but I bet it was great! Thank you, Republicans, for a great all around night! We laughed our asses off to the point where we almost lost control of our vehicle!!!

“Kira, Obama, during his victory speech, was talking about the 106 year old black woman who voted for him today, and mentioned explicitly that she touched the screen…. ”

I heard that too and I didn’t take it that way. I thought it was a symbolic of making progress in ones lifetime. He introduced her as having been born before autos etc. She went from the (barely)industrial age, through the mechanical and now into the electronic age to facilitate her journey from one generation removed from slavery to a African American President (post-racial politics). I thought it was a reinforcment of his message of transition and progress. And quite inspiring at a deeply historical level.

    Maybe I’m just tired though.

I still want real old-fashioned paper ballots though, I think MO’s elections might be different if we had them. it’s now 49% to 50% for mCCain. And less election fraud and vote supression would have given Obama MO for sure.

I’m just positive the O did better here than they’re showing.

We have EVMs 100% across the state.

Me too, 99. Too many McStoopid signs around my neighborhood.

But … hopefully things will begin to get better once the new, sane management goes into action.

If Obama has the same affect on the country he’s had on people in his campaign we will all be calming down and focusing. And losing the mean-spiritedness of the bush administration.

    John McCain Rep. 1,409,284 49.7% -3.6%
    Barack Obama Dem. 1,391,573 49.0 +2.9
    Ralph Nader Ind. 17,355 0.6 N.A.
    Bob Barr Lib 11,135 0.4 N.A.
    Chuck Baldwin CST 8,037 0.3 N.A.

Man, this needs some close looking into.

    @ Lottakatz

I agree with your interpretation. I also saw it as a symbolic reference much like the ape-like pre-human touching the monolith, followed by the modern man (in a space suit on the moon’s surface in Tycho crater) touching the monolith from ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’. It was an excellent speech.

I’ll admit that I cringed when I heard him say ‘she touched the screen’ since I despise all EVMs and touch screen DREs in particular. But I got over it quickly once I realized the symbolism of the statement.

I do agree with Kira and 99 that we must make sure that Obama understands the danger to democracy that EVMs present. Close elections will always be stolen if we continue to use opaque (non-transparent) voting processes.

I discovered NovaM about a year ago. Until then I had despaired that America had been taken over by the regligous right (Which are actually neither…). I’m an American ex-pat living in Canada, haven’t been back to the US since 9-11. I’m very proud of the country of my birth tonight. I’m also glad that I’ve lived to see this day. Now that those awful people are going to be gone (after 8 years of evil), I may even be able to come back to visit, without fearing I’d be arrested at the border for suspicion of conspiracy to look suspicious, in nothing else…My compliments and congratulations to my fellow Americans for rising above the narrow-mindedness of the past, and stepping proudly into the 21st. Century. May your God bless you all, by whatever name you call it.

God Bless Talos Moondancer … yes, maybe we can now start treating other countries with respect – especially our good friend Canada.

Would love to go back to drivers license instead of passport for travel to the Great White North.

    Let’s shred the no-fly list.

I guess I’m getting ahead of myself … I’m with 99 … ready to enjoy & celebrate the goodness of tonight. Clearin’ out gwb’s brush is going to take a big crew and a long time.

I may be here all alone now, but I just found this posted at fivethirtyeight.com [posted at 2:11a.m. I assume Eastern time.]

Some very weird things are going on in Georgia, as the total vote is much, much lower than expected. Some speculation has the early vote not being counted, which would strongly suggest that Saxby Chambliss will have to face a runoff in four weeks.

Phil said on 11/5/2008 @ 8:20am PT: [Permalink]

Although it feels like part of a war is over, I am much more worried about the seats and other shills, appointees, security clearances and corruption crap left over from the last eight years.

With six million votes disappeared, plenty of rocks are stuck in the cogs of the United States government.

Let’s not forget the state of the Constitution. Fisa, Torture, Our Kids as Fodder in War, Protecting Funding Of Our Government Itself., not bankers like Bernake and Paulson want, the fascist media.

The Bush administration isn’t gone yet. The skies are grey not blue. Obama is going to need a DIFFERENT plan than he currently has for the economy, or it will get very bad.

Wow! I woke up at about 1:00 this afternoon and had to check to see if last night was just a dream or what? It actually all happened! What a fine feeling. Thank you all for keeping me entertained all night (I think I finally faded out at about 5:00 in the morning, and slept aso deeply and peacefully, oh my!), and special thanks to Brad and Agent 99 for providing us with such a fine gathering spot. Lots and lots of hard work lies ahead of us, but at least, at long last, we can start on it. Still, I wonder how many house and senate seats got stolen, and I’m certain that Obama’s actual margin of victory was much larger than reported. Even the Czechs use hand-marked paper ballots – that looks like our greatest task

Brad I hope you will continue to investigate and get to the bottom of the electronic voting machine malfunctions and election fraud.

Regardless of who won this is a very serious issue and should not be swept under the rug just like all the crimes committed by the neocons the past 8 years need to be investigated and officials prosecuted.
