Does the "I captured Saddam and the world is safer" mantra get thrown out the window with the deaths of 200 Russians?

A Russian friend of mine in 1992 told me that the Chechens are the most violent of all Muslims. Russia just needs to crack down on them and hopefully they will. Chechnya has nothing to do with Iraq.
Terrorism is increasing because their is a war against it. We need to kill or jail them - all of them. Keep hunting them down, draining their finances, destroying their training camps, etc.

"Chechnya has nothing to do with Iraq."
Just like Iraq has nothing to do with 9/11.

Paul,
Here's the problem, Chechnya has a lot to do with a group, i don't know if you've ever heard of them, called al Qaeda. In fact, the terrorists in Chechnya have extensive ties to al Qaeda. Looking at the insurgency alone, it goes back to Omar Ibn al Khattab and Shamil Basayev who were trained by bin Laden. Go back to the last video made by bin Laden before 9-11 and you will see a discussion of the situation in Chechnya. Historically this also reaches back to the Reagan Administration and William Casy's plan to radicalize the Muslims in the USSR's border regions. You see besides training the fundamentalists in terrorist tactics, the CIA also had them smuggle in Korans and radical Islamist literature into the USSR.
Blowback is a bitch.
Why is it you are so uninformed on this issue?

"Russia just needs to crack down on them and hopefully they will."
Yes, the Russians have gone so easy on the Chechnyans up till now.
Kind of how the Israeli's have been kittens with the Palestinians.
No doubt our current course of adventure in regards to Terrorism will be as successful as both the Israeli's and Russians.

Paul,
and just so we are clear about Mr. Bush's policies and Checnya, here is what he said during the 2000 election several years after you were oware of the fundamentalist aspects of the insurgency:
The reference here is to cutting off loans from the IMF: "BUSH: Until they [the Russians] understand they need to resolve the dispute peacefully and not be bombing women and children and causing huge numbers of refugees to flee Chechnya."
Almost everyone in America who knew anything about the situation knew of the fundamentalist aspect of the insurgency. Yet, here Mr. Bush is claiming that even after the terorist acts committed by fringe elements that the Russian ractics went too far. Apparently, bombing innocent women and children for the better part of the last decade is not good enough for you; what are you suggesting? A little of the ole final solution?

Um, hi. It is rather uncanny for you all to segue from a really funny video to the menace that is Chechnya. Well done.
