Listen, America is the issue here. The United States.
Guilt directly, or by association is really not the issue.
Will you help us get rid of the republican dictatorship? That is what we need.
We can't impeach Bush or you WILL see a worse president, Cheney. You should know by now not to say "it can't get worse". It sure as hell can.
Be sorry for your lack of analysis ... be sorry for the lack of analysis of those you trusted ... the MSM ... and take it from there. And realize that it goes deeper than your mistake.
Do you really think you are smarter, wiser, and more worldly that our forefathers and our foremothers?
I hope not cause none of us are. They set up a system of checks and balances, knowing that power corrupts, and sought to protect us from the dire consequences of the consentration of power.
If you have a problem with government, I assure you, you can trace it to a concentration of power.
In disobedience to our ancestors.
My "republican dictatorship" phrase, which permeates this blog, is an expression of the current and improper concentration of power.

Why the Cheney argument fails to impress: [ link ]
People realize that the president can no longer lead the nation. He can no longer lead in Iraq. He can no longer lead the economy. He will not obey or assert the rule of law. The composition of the administration must be changed, for the common good.
As Bush falls below 30% and conservatives continue to abandon him, impeachment will no longer be the elephant in the room that no one talks about, it will be the major issue, front and center.

Dredd's message is as follows:
The Democrats can't do anything until they hold a majority in congress.
So they shouldn't bother talking about what they will do when they get a majority.
Because they can't do anything about it in the minority.
That is why they need a majority.
So they can do the things they won't talk about while in the minority.
Why make any noise about it when there's nothing they can do?
Let's all sit back, relax, and wait for the Republicans to self-destruct.
And do nothing while we wait.
Don't try to show leadership, or threaten to hold criminals accountable.
That might upset the swing-voters.
We'll need them if we want to magically take back the congress.
While ignoring the issues before the election.
To summarize: Let the Republicans eat themselves. Take no position on the rule of law. Set no agenda. Make no promises. And then hope the electorate still sweeps you into power on election day. Then.....?
.
Tell me, who's afraid of the big bad Cheney?

What bunk. This rightwing hatemonger wants out from under, but he immediately craps on Jimmy Carter.
Here's a newsflash: CARTER NEVER BETRAYED THE CONSTITUTION. Carter never tried to destroy our laws.
What Jimmy Carter did do WAS FORM THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY.
You listening up, Doug?
President Carter made three promises to America when he signed the FEMA law:
1) FEMA will always serve all Americans equally, without special treatment for any.
2) FEMA will always be a CABINET-LEVEL agency.
3) FEMA will always be headed by an actual first-responder.
Now let's compare this to what Bush, Chertov, and Browne did to Louisiana and Mississippi.
Bush broke every one of President Carter's promises. President Clinton's FEMA evacuated 2.5 million people during a hurricaine in Florida. That was Carter's accomplishment.
And now, Doug, let's look at your boy. What he did was destroy FEMA.
So, Doug, you owe Presidents Carter and Clinton BIG APOLOGIES. And yet you spend your apology about supporting Bush bashing someone who SAVED lives, rather than blew them away while he hid behind schoolkids, after a five-week vacation, or a trip to San Diego to play guitar.
Quit your job and put ashes on your head, or GFY over your apology. You're still what's wrong with Amerika, Doug.

Big deal, Dean misquoted the Dem platform BEFORE he was head of the party.
The GLBT national groups are still mad that Dean decentralized the effort, in order TO ACTUALLY FIGHT ON THE STATE LEVEL for GLBT rights against KNOWN referendi and initiatives that are in the pipeline.
That strategic shift is a crucial one, but rather than work with the state-level operatives, the DC activists are spreading propaganda WHICH IS ACTUALLY HELPING THE RIGHTWING.
Your posting itself does the opposite of what you claim.
Governor Dean gave GLBT the first COMPLETE recognition of EQUAL RIGHTS in their history at the state level, without opening the powder keg of 'right to marriage.' EVERY OTHER ADVANTAGE WAS EVENED OUT for all Vermonters.
So why don't you stick to the topic, and quit doing Rove's work for him?

You asked if I read your links. You only posted one here, which I read. It was a rant against those, myself included, who would not impeach Bush because Cheney would then become president.
His justification was "I want to ask those who fear the spectre of a Cheney presidency, what exactly is the basis for believing that a Congress that impeaches Bush would simply allow Cheney to do all the same things they just impeached him for, and more?". He goes on to say what crazy congress would not impeach Cheney if they had already impeached Bush.
Well, this guy evidently lives on another planet, in another country, or simply in his deluded mind. We can't just imagine a congress that is eager and willing to do our bidding.
To imagine such a congress is the ultimate denial. Guess what? We have a republican congress that is a rubber stamp of the republican president.
Only if the president wants to impeach himself would they do it. If Hillary Clinton, Robert Byrd, Fiengold, or anyone else wants to impeach, that would not rally the republicans to impeach, it would rally them to do just the opposite.
The republican congress, which has the chair of each and every committee, the majority vote on each and every committee, thinks that even the issue of a censure of the president is a political football they can use to their own advantage. That is why Specter allowed Finegold to file his bill with that committee. What happened to that? They all ganged up on Finegold and Howard Dean, a witness, and that was the end of it.
It will go no further unless and until the republicans want to make political hay out of it, but rest assured, as long as they are in control, it will go no where.
So there is no way, except play pretend, for the republican congress to impeach the president, it is an exercise in futility. And the futility of having Cheney as president would only be worse.
I am not going to waste any more time on someone's demented imagination unless and until they can explain just exactly how this grandiose, pie in the sky, the UFO's have taken over, political bunk, is supposed to happen. In the real world.
Mike points out that Feinstein will not run in '08. Ok, my point was that the republican dictatorship must be stopped before we start single senator targeting. The nation is bleeding to death and first we stop the bleeding from the arteries by stopping the rubber stamp effect. Then we can play with band aids.
First things first.

The oil barons, such as Bush, have fostered lies upon the public.
One of them is that there is an endless supply of oil. The lie you have parroted and linked to is an attempt to regurgitate the myth that there is even enough domestic oil to free us from being addicted to the drug of our enemies.
That lie has been debunked since the 50's when Hubbert predicted that American domestic supply would peak circa 1970 (link here).
He was right and earned the respect of his peers. He predicted peak oil for the world circa 2000.
The oil barons did not assasinate him, they slandered him. Like trolls are prone to do.
The difference between slander and chastisement is being correct on the facts. A troll is one who can not stand the facts nor to admit mistakes.

We dare not take the position that it is only the president that leads the nation. That we have only one leader.
The constitution does not portray American government like that. It portrays three leaders of our nation, and none of them are men or women.
They are institutions or offices. Office of the President, Office of Senators, and Office of judges. Office is not just a room. Men and women fill those offices, but the distinction is for real.
The leaders are the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch. Institutions, not single individuals. And I am not willing to concede that the office of the president is the first and foremost.
We must not take the position that he is commander in chief of all Americans either. He is only commander in chief of the military. To other Americans, the vast majority, he is the president.
You are right that there is a trend in the direction of relying on one individual, but that is a trend that we should clearly see as a mistake.

Oh well, the first step in deprogramming cult members is making them aware that the cult leader isn't everything he is cracked up to be. The second step will be convincing him to lose the prejudices that the cult leader instilled in him about others.

See my previous post in the thread where the conservative felt "regret" for voting for Bush.
It's BS and little more than playing politics themselves. They can no longer ignore Bush's poll numbers and they are jumping ship to save their own hides.
But the fact is that NONE of these peolpe have blamed the Republican party for mass corruption, selling out to big business, and enabling the President who is powerless without the majority support he HAS been getting.
All these people are coming out and layign the blame solely on the President. Great. Glad you've sort of come around to the real world. But it is easy to blame one person who won't be running for anything inthe future. Just put all the blame on him and him alone and maybe nobody will blame the rest of the congress or senate Republicans who ARE running.
Sorry, but I don't see why so many Liberal blogs are praising these conservatives who are claiming to see the light. To me it is no different than when they were claiming to be "compasionate" or "patriots" or "christians". It's jsut the newest label they slap on themselves in hopes of getting public approval.
Come the end of the year, they will still vote for Republicans across the board. Come 2008 they will still vote Republican for President. And should another Bush or member of the BUsh cabal run for Presiden in the future...they will vote for them as well. Because that is what they do...they put party and power and control over actual qualifications and reality. These people feel for McCarthyism in the 50s and they have fallen for it again and will fall for it AGAIN in the future. they aren't concerned with the country's well being but with power and basking in it's reflected glory and feeling superior to the "liberals" they hate and get paid to bash on a regular basis.
I'm sorry for sounding annoyed and bitter, but nothing has changed with these newly enlightened conservatives. ACtions speak MUCH louder than words and maybe hold the praise until these people have proven they have seen the light. That would mean voting the enabling Republicans OUT of office, talking about voting machine problems in proper reference (ie. going back to 2004), etc, etc, etc.

it's gotta be the latter because i didn't say that feinstein will not run in '08. read slowly now. what i said was that feinstein cannot run in '08 under our system when a us senator's term is 6 years and she's up for reelection this year in '06.
bushco would not target feinstein because she's part of bushco. she's one of their own. look at how much she does for karl rove. i'm sure he loves her. maybe jeb will choose feinstein as his running mate. or maybe hillary will choose jeb or george w as her running mate. or maybe john edwards will choose dick cheney as his running mate**. they're all the same. it won't matter how they're paired up.
** = see rawstory for the articles where hillary was eating george w's butt, feinstein was eating michael hayden's butt and john edwards was eating dick cheney's butt. of course dredd/paul in L.A. will see nothing wrong with this.

hey guys,
i've noticed something about dredd/paul in L.A. (same person. they say the same thing about karl rove). dredd/paul has adopted one of the worst traits of republicans. republicans don't believe in the first amendment esp when it comes to people having the right to criticize their politicians. republicans are very thin-skinned and can't bear to hear their politicians criticized. they can't bear that. i've noticed this for years with republicans. i say that if a politician is worth his or her salt they can withstand any criticism directed at them.
dredd/paul has adopted this thin-skinned tactic. he can't bear to hear any criticism of dems. he makes excuses for the dems time after time. he makes them into deities. dredd/paul wants people to march in lockstep support for the dems. no dissent allowed on here. instead, he attacks the people who attack the dem politicians. he defends the dems consistently whether they are right or wrong, and defends them when the dems refuse to hold their own. he attack others who criticize the dems as somehow helping karl rove (a cheap and ugly republican-style tactic he uses to try to suppress dissent of the dems). man, talk about a stretch!!!!!! dredd/paul should be attacking the dems in congress who hold the power and who really are helping karl rove every day, but no it's easier for dredd/paul to resort to attacking those on here who have no power not even the power of their vote anymore as doing karl rove's work for him. LOL. man, what will dredd come up with next? all anyone is doing on here is expressing their views under the first amendment to the us constitution. but just like republicans, dredd/paul don't like the first amendment or at least when it's used by someone to criticize dem politicians, who deserve the criticism.
if you hate the republicans (as i do) why would you adopt some of their ugly, thin-skinned and anti-american and anti-us constitution tactics when in the end you're trying to suppress dissent of your own dem politicians. if your dem politicians are worthy of being where they are they can withstand the criticism. maybe dredd/paul knows they are not worthy of being members of congress. but what you do on here dredd/paul with other posters is how republicans act. nasty. nasty. nasty. dredd/paul, this doesn't speak at all well of you. by doing so you look as bad as the republicans whom you criticize. why do you adopt gutter tactics from the republicans?

Mark Hyman with "The Point".
We have him here.
Before the elections in 2004, he harped & harped against the Dems & talked up Bush over & over & over.
I complained that it was not a "forum for discussion" as they claimed it was, but just a political ad campaign in disguise.
I wrote a complaint to the FCC about it--but that's when I was told by the FCC that the "Fairness Doctrine" that would have given equal time to each party if it were still in effect, was dropped in the mid eighties by the FCC under Reagan.
I even called his station & spoke to the newsroom people & 2 of the newscasters themselves asking them how they could stand having to introduce him every day & reading nothing but corporate fake news most of the time.
They said they couldn't do anything about it if they wanted to work there & seemed nervous even talking about it to me.
I've learned since that they fired a guy who refused to do their bidding, he sued & lost. I also learned they record & listen to conversations at their studios, so no wonder the employees are nervous talking about the subject.

I've faced this qualm many, many times in the several years fighting for impeachment I've done this time around.
It is based on a complete misunderstanding of the process.
• ANY investigation for impeachment of GW will CLEARLY add Cheney's name (and the rest of the WHIG) to the docket.
The Congressional position is basically that investigation leads to impeachment, combined with public demand (not just activists) for removal. While there is plenty of basis for impeachment under what is known, there are NOT sufficient votes. Rep. Conyers, the hero at the focus of our impeachment efforts, fully recognizes this.
I have previously posted that it was a waste of time to fight with the Dem leadership when they have the potential to gain the majority, and thereby fully manifest the kind of investigation that will SATISFY THE PUBLIC that the WHIG has committed grave crimes. It is possible that the public will reach that conclusion before that time, but failing that pressure on REPUBLICANS, the Dem leadership has said, and reasonably, that gaining the House is basic to going forward.
One reason why I frequent this blog is that I'm critically aware that we don't have legal elections, so the outcome in the Fall is far from certain. Further, I personally believe we will suffer some grave injury on 06 06 06 (coming right up), and that Bushco will press forward with nuclear war on Iran, my gravest fear for five years now. So I don't personally support the decision to wait for the election --- my point is that it is a waste of time to attack the minority, and especially a waste of time to attack the leadership when an election pends which SHOULD, legally, give the minority the majority, and thus the power to go forward with impeachment.
Mike would prefer to pretend that Rep. Pelosi and Sen. Reid don't want to impeach Bushco. The evidence of that is very weak indeed. But he's not really interested in evidence, so far as I can tell on cursory examination (I don't generally have time to read the comments on this site).
Furthermore, as far as I can tell, it is Mike who posted the GLBT issue to this thread. My comments have been on-topic except to respond to this slander of Gov. Dean. Why do I defend Dean? Because in thirty-five years of political work, I recognize that Dean is one of our bright lights. I don't spend my political efforts attacking our help.
People who do really haven't studied history. They don't realize what kinds of Congress or party leadership we have had before. Bitter anger and hatred at even good politicians is a standard of American free discourse. That doesn't make it appropriate or useful. But Mike doesn't seem to care about actual solutions. Many people prefer their hatred and anger to actual solutions, most of which require WORKING WITH the people they have already condemned.
Working with people is the big problem with democratic forms of government. The Congress is pretty much nothing but working with people --- often from entirely divergent positions. Politics of the constitutional sort requires a willingness not to savage poltiicians at every turn that doesn't go your way.
• Gov. Dean is one of the best party leaders we have ever had --- he is open to our issues, he is breaking down barriers in the hidebound party, and energizing the grassroots, most of whom have no idea what a 'blog' is.
• Rep. Pelosi is A DIRECT RESULT OF THE GRASSROOTS. She is from one of our most liberal districts; she is a VAST improvement over Rep. Gephardt of Missouri.
As a loyal Democrat since my first vote (for McGovern), I will continue to defend these representatives and others, especially against counter-productive rants and hatred from people who think that Mom frosted the World for their birthday party.
The Hackett example is sufficient proof of the reason why. Anyone who doesn't know who Sherrod Brown is should take a second look at Hackett's 2000 vote for Bush, and compare that to the record of the representative who led the fight against CAFTA, was instrumental in saving the Great Lakes, and in fighting infectious illness worldwide. One fellow is a neophyte with 'balls' that made him vote for a traitor. The other is an effective progressive with 35 years of hard work at progressive goals.
I don't see any reason to apologize for these facts. Since I've been maced, punched, handcuffed, and spat on for fighting Bush, I don't take a backseat to 'mike' (how many screennames does he have?) for being on the line, working for change, and that includes via the Dem party, the American system of government, and ardent, lifelong protest.
Now follows the five word Mike reply, ignoring all these points. So it goes.

Guys - NO PERSONAL ATTACKS ON OTHER COMMENTERS! Now I've got to go back and delete some of these damn things, which I do not have time for!
Critique each others arguments all you want. Attack people in the news personally (including myself if you wish)...but NOT OTHER COMMENTERS! Clear? Thank you!

I've been listen to Doug McIntyre ever since he started on Red Eye Radio during Election 2000. He's always been a plant for the Democrats who claimed to be a Republican. He just figures it safe now to be a little more open about the views he's always held because his buddies in the mainstream media have done such a great job of driving the President's poll numbers down with their incredibly biased way of reporting the news. The only thing McIntyre is interested in is keeping his job and his opinion will change accordingly with what he thinks the prevailing opinion of the day is. If Bush's numbers start rising again he'll go right back to pretending to be a Republican again.

Thanks for clearing mike up about me being you and you being me. That got both of us mad.
Anyway, you said: "ANY investigation for impeachment of GW will CLEARLY add Cheney's name (and the rest of the WHIG) to the docket"
I won't nitpik like mike does, docket is fine with me, but for those that may not know, a bill of impeachment is filed in the house and is then assigned to a committee.
If the chair allows it to go forward, and the majority of republicans on the committee vote likewise, then it will be released to the floor.
If it passes then the senate goes thru a quasi trial of those articles.
We saw that in the President Clinton years.
But did you notice that Gore was not included? I think your "ANY" is weak, because nothing in the law compels it in any case whatsoever.

Yes I read your posts and no I did not understand them.
That is because you responded to mine without comprehending it.
I was focusing on the big picture, getting rid of the republican dictatorship, and you are focusing on the small picture, getting rid of Feinstein.
I said the way to stop the republican rubber stamp majority in congress, the easy way, is to replace the majority party, republicans, in either or both of the houses of congress, with democrats.
You responded by focusing on my mistake at when Feinstein will be elected again after '06.
Thus you are majoring in the minors. And you either did not comprehend the big picture, or are not concerned with fathoming the big picture.
If you have a plan for changing the majority party from the republican party to another party by removing Feinstein this November, I am sure Paul in LA would like to hear it. I would not because it is a non sequitur.

I misspoke --- I meant DOCK. But the point stands: ANY exposure in a full Congressional investigation of the actions of the WHIG, the crony corruption in Iraq, and other such general administrative malfeasance WILL result in the VP being impeached as well --- since clearly he is culpable right along side his pet pig.
"But did you notice that Gore was not included? I think your "ANY" is weak, because nothing in the law compels it in any case whatsoever."
Gore? How was Gore responsible for what found its way into Monica's mouth? That's just an absurd statement, Dredd. As for the law compelling, the point is INVESTIGATION of the sort --- NOT BASED IN NEWSPAPER REPORTS --- that can push an impeachment to encompass the entire top-staff of this felonious coup.

Sorry for the double posting --- the cgi said it had timed out.
"If you have a plan for changing the majority party from the republican party to another party by removing Feinstein this November, I am sure Paul in LA would like to hear it."
Actually, NOT. There isn't any way to remove Feinstein this year, though in six years, if we are still here, she will be gone. I am not a Feinstein fan, though she does occasionally do something of value. Her husband is making big bucks in Iraq, and she is a charter-member of AIPAC, so she's not among the Dems I care to defend any more than that.
I WOULD, however, like to invite Mike to join me in
RECALLING ARNIE!!!
www.savecalnow.com
We have until the end of June to collect the balance of the signatures needed, and even with his protestations of fiscal responsibility, don't forget that he has taken "$85,537,787.09" (as of May 05, 2006) of special interest money, was NOT legally elected, participated in the ENRON/Reliant energy ripofff, is an illegal alien, a tax fraud, and a pawn of rightwing interests, as he has proven in the immigration crisis bs.
Putting him on recall is an ACTUAL political action, as opposed to whining about the bulletproof, unopposed, Feinstein.

So did this asshole ever apologise for helping the Jesus Cult and the Corporations trash this nation and it's Constitution. Maybe if he and ten million more like him pitch in and carry some weight we can just manage to keep the ship of state afloat.
Save the Constitution at all costs. Live Free or Die!

Surf's up dude! (Paul's the troll that said he had to go because his ride was here to take him surfing!)
Ya still harp on voting for Dems in Nov. I see.
That's stupid.
They haven't done ANYTHING, & the Democratic leadership even came out a couple of days ago & SAID they would NOT impeach Bush & Co. if they DO get majority!
They have a lot of nerve wanting to be re-elected when they have not done a damn thing this go round!
Oh yeah! Vote for us because we just might!
Puh-lease.
We deserve better.
P.S. My favorite part of your lie was when you came back & told us, in detail, about the lovely wildlife & vegetation you saw while surfing. It was very Zen.
You should get some kind of creativity award for that one.

"...Brad said ...NO PERSONAL ATTACKS ON OTHER COMMENTERS!"
As for surfing, I've never felt like apologizing for swimming like a fish. Given global warming, it is a skill that will come in handy.
"Ya still harp on voting for Dems in Nov. I see."
I didn't harp on that; I didn't mention that. Indeed, I said that we DON'T HAVE LEGAL ELECTIONS. So what you 'see' is your own hallucination.
"They haven't done ANYTHING,"
Social Security still stands. Did you miss that? Did you happen to notice any of the actions by Waxman or Conyers? Maybe you missed the destruction of Bill Frist's presidential bid over immigration.
You just have a bug up your skirts about the Dems, and at the same time expect them to be able to defy a violent coup.
Apparently you have never studied the history of the Congress, in order to put your hatred IN CONTEXT. No, for you everything is born anew with every vote. There is no political process. It's just perfection to perfection, especially from YOUR representatives. Oh wait --- that's right --- YOU DON'T HAVE ANY.
Well, that makes it MUCH easier to be pure and haughty-righteous.
" & the Democratic leadership even came out a couple of days ago & SAID they would NOT impeach Bush & Co. if they DO get majority!"
I know it is VERY hard to understand politics, Charlene, but you really ought to try.
"They have a lot of nerve wanting to be re-elected when they have not done a damn thing this go round!"
HILARIOUS. So what's you plan? Elect more Republicans? What third-party candidates are you working for, day and night?
"P.S. My favorite part of your lie"
A lie I get to repeat this coming morning, to my great joy.
" was when you came back & told us, in detail, about the lovely wildlife & vegetation you saw while surfing."
Vegetation? You must not go into the sea much. But I do love your hatred of it.
"It was very Zen."
How would you know?
