I apologize.
She'd have more takers for that.

Anyone surprised? The House Judiciary has voted against an inquiry into Gannongate. Go figure. They're against gay marriage, but it's ok to have a gay prostitute rubbing up against the Prez. See Americablog. Someone said the Democrats should just go home and educate their constituents. They're not doing any good in DC. I think that's a great idea! Just all pack up and go home!

OT:
Has everyone cottoned on to what happened in the Senate today? A provision to allow drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge was tacked on the the Senate budget bill, and when Kerry et.al. tried to have it removed this A.M., his motion was defeated 51-49. Guess why?
Seven Republican Senators voted to remove it. 3 "Democrats" voted to keep it in: Akaka, Inouye and Landrieu. It would have been 48-52 if they had upheld their pledges to represent PEOPLE instead of corporations.
This is a very dark, very tragic day... I don't know where to turn now. IS there any more reason for hope?

Congratulations, Brad and Velvet Revolution, on the Waters/Conyers/Green Party endorsement and their efforts to straighten out the voting machine companies. Keep pushing - failure is not an option.
Peg C - yes, it's very sad. Maybe something else can be done to stop it. Does the oil have to be transported thru Canada?
Cheryl - Yes, Democrats should go home and educate their constituents!!! Good idea! That's who they should be talking to, listening to, anyway. Partying in D.C. is only going to get them in trouble and defeated at next election.

Peg C, I know exactly how you feel! The atrocities just keep unfolding almost daily. It is beyond belief!
Believe it or not, but my Ohio Senator, Mike DeWine (R) voted against the drilling. I was shocked. I wrote him a letter tonight, which I posted on the Conyers' Gannon Resolution thread, # 18 I think.
We must not lose hope, even though I don't even want to get out of bed some mornings, wondering what these depraved psychos will do next. I want to bury my head and just tell the real heroes like Brad, and John Conyers, Jr. to wake me when it is all over.
But, I keep on writing letters, signing petitions, and generally making a nuisance of myself. I guess we all have to persevere, because each one of us is important in the reclaiming of our democracy.
Remember what Benjamin Franklin once said, "We must all hang together or assuredly, we shall all hang separately."

re #5 Peggy asked: Does the oil [from the north shore of Alaska] have to be transported thru Canada?
No. But a pipeline through Canada would be the least expensive way to get it to the USA. Otherwise they would have to bring it in tankers which would have to go all the way around Alaska through the Bering Straits.
Here are a couple of maps. This one shows that the route around Alaska would be no picnic. This one shows the distance between southern Alaska (in green, upper left) and the continental 48 (also in green, at the bottom).

Sherry -
Thanks for the solidarity. I keep up the fight too. I've signed seven petitions since my last post. And the endangered Endangered Species Act awaits my focussed assault (tomorrow). But this destruction machine, otherwise known as an "administration," keeps throwing up blockades and plowing onward on its warpath against any conservation of anything that might produce a few more pennies for the overprivileged. Forgive me for feeling cynical and murderous (literally - and for me, that's incredibly improbable). But even a saint needs to be able hope for something. Since I believe the afterlife is the extension of a pattern created or reinforced in this one, I keep at it.
Hey, people. People are better than this!

Peg C #4 We would be elitist to think the US Empire can not go the way of the empires before her.
The empire is in decline, and the body politic, like a body where rigor mortis slowly sets it, jerks and recoils as it tends toward the stillness of death.
Like a cat falling thru a tree from the top down the empire grasps at all the limbs of oil left on the planet.
Taking by violence here, drilling by deception there ... the addict grasps and claws its way shrieking thru the spasmotic descent ... as perhaps another empire begins to take on embryonic form ... until the great day of the last empire dawns.
Following that the time beyond - when the era just over the top, just over the hill, and down into the pleasant valley - comes into view and arises anew.
It will be a better and a more mature time ... a time for humanity and a time for remembering the past by visiting the graveyards of the forgotten empires and wondering how could they have done such things and considered themselves to be the leaders of humanity?

Wouldn't it be satisfying if Brad's work with election reform united with the efforts of these Congresspeople fighting for voting rights, and achieved something for all of us?
Maybe we are focusing too much on the wrong thing... the horrible deeds of these falling people. Maybe we are feeding too much on the decayed matter.
Maybe we could be working with all our might on growth and renewal, just in case something good really does happen and the good people are called to the fore.
Maybe we should align ourselves with the benificent forces of life, and build, create, and move forward as much as we can with an alternative plan.

Brad - BBV's recent Diebold hack demonstration!
Did you see BBV's 3/8/2005 story that they setup actual Diebold machines the same way that they were on 11/2/2004, and demonstrated that they could be easily hacked? The demonstration was in front of the "appropriate officials", video taped, and the report sent to the House Judiciary Committee. The demonstration showed a hack into the equivalent of a county's central vote tabulator.
Key things:
1. It's not theoretical any more. The central tabulators used on 11/2/2004 CAN be hacked into. From a remote location.
2. One person can do it, leaving no traces in the log files. In other words, it doesn't take a massive conspiracy to do this.
VITAL QUESTIONS:
How many central tabulators could a competant, determined, and prepared hacker hack into on election night? 4? 30? 250?
Could 1 good hacker hack into ALL Diebold tabulators across the country from a remote location?
Aren't the ES&S tabulators likely to be just as vulnerable?

Hi, Winter #7 - Thanks for your response.
Note: The DV4D petitions is a great route and it's going to hurt the criminals!
The objective is to open up the organized attack on more fronts, keep them on the defensive. The criminals don't believe Americans can or will do it.
If stopping drilling in the Arctic is what the millions of people who support the 80 organizations behind DV4D, then the same approach can be done for the Arctic: A petition to the CANADIAN GOVERNMENT and CANADIAN/WORLDWIDE ENVIRONMENTALISTS groups to not allow transport of oil from the Arctic thru Canada, if it is not the will of the majority of Americans who care about the environment. I think the Canadian government would be quite shocked to receive such a petition and it would also bring their attention to DV4D.
Is anyone prepared to take the DV4D petition format and start fighting to save the Arctic from the murdering destructive corporate oil warmongers now running America? Brad is BUSY, but he certainly could promote the new petition while he's doing the radio shows. Keep on fighting!

I don't think it would be too hard to convince the majority of Canadians not to allow the transport of Alaskan oil through our country. The big task would be to have the Canadian government listen. Mind you, this is a good time, what with a minority government and all.

I'd guess that the oil would go through the (already existing) pipline that goes from the North Slope to the ocean port at Valdez, Alaska (that's where they had that big oil spill from the drunken oil tanker captain). I used to live in Alaska. I havn't looked at an AK map lately, but my guess is they'd work out some way to get the oil to that pipeline.

I signed Barbara Boxer's petition to the big oil companies to stay ouy of ANWR, but the strategy seems quixotic to me. "Stay out, don't bid, or we'll boycott you." How does one effectively boycott a petroleum conglomerate?
We eschew Exxon/Mobile anyway, for the gas tanks of our vehicles. But where does Citgo, for instance, purchase its wares? Where does our local heating oil purveyor purchase his? It's all pooled, for heaven's sake. And every time anyone purchases, of necessity, a petroleum product, ALL energy corporations profit.
If you need a conspiracy, here's the biggie...besides Gannon/Guckert, that is. That is a big, ugly, evil thing that needs to be persued to its source/Gollum cave.

Hi Peg C, and everyone else.
Peg, I'm sorry you were feeling so frustrated and I truly hope you are feeling better! I understand how you feel, I truly do. But if we get depressed, or loose hope, then those evil bastards have won. Even if that legislation passes, it's not the end. They still have to make it work and we all still have time to stop it. It's the same for anything else those scum-bags want to do, or have done!
We just have to keep doing what we feel is right, and in the best interests of our country. I know I am a relative newcomer (post wise anyway) But I have been reading the Brad Blog since it began. I simply did not think i could add anything of value before. You and many others have done so much, and I respect you all.
Instead of focusing on what we can't do, we need to stay focussed on what we *CAN* do! And there is MUCH we can do! And believe me, people are disappearing or dying because those toxic waste dumps in charge of the Whitehouse and the main stream press are very much afraid. This is a war you know, perhaps between good and evil, or perhaps just between those who want to save their country, and those who want to rape and destroy it!
Keep up the great work everyone, it will all be worth it one day!
have you been to BartCop recently? They have some interesting (and disgustingly evil) news about Gannongate! It also explains why Hunter Thompson was killed.

My personal opinion about petitions and how much good they do is this......I think they help me feel good more than anything else. I've signed every one that I come across, and have yet to see what real impact they have, because I think unless you have millions of signatures, they really can't open any eyes of the opposition, they're just written off as feeble.
As far as what might really work goes, my opinion is that the best thing we can all do is to get our bodies into the street and make our presence physically? known. Kestrelbrighteyes reminds us here what is going on all over the country this weekend. I personally will be attending this Peace vigil. There will be hundreds if not thousands just like this all over the country, and I think this is the best way to make our opinions known, one person, one town, one state at a time.
Peace

I am very much in support of making sure voting is fair, and stands on the foundation of democracy.
When, and who should have the constitutional right to change it for their greater good.
Fair is fair unless it is in America. Is this the law, or is it what we represent.
Let us voting and have confidents in this land for the elect, that we the people have the rights.

Location SF Bay Area
Of course NAMBLA will characterize their goal as laudable and beyond reproach. You would do well to read about the material they distribute before you so readily come to their defense. Furthermore, think on this. The acronym stands for "North American Man-Boy Love Association." Now surely you realize these "boys" will one day grow to be "men." In other words, once the man is no longer the boy, he will be discarded because he is no longer a viable partner. That's hardly love, now is it? Really, they should call it for what it is. North American Underage Sex Exploitation Association (NAUSEA). After all, it is not love when these children are really nothing more than a vehicle for someone who cares more about satisfying their sexual urges than they do about the child they're exploiting... the child they will most surely discard when that child 'ages out.'
A sexual relationship between an adult and prepubescent child or adolescent, and exclusive of two teens who are less than 3 years apart (e.g., an 18 year old "adult" & 16 year old "minor"), can never be consensual. The reason for the prior should be obvious. The reason for the latter, in addition to the implicit power imbalance, involves issues of being unable to easily support themselves without the assistance of an adult. And that directly increases the risk of exploitation of minors by adults. While those who wish to engage in sexual relationships with children may claim they love them, their justifications are selfish and they are deluding themselves while being driven by base motives.
Children are neither developmentally or emotionally in a position to consent. For a number of reasons, the least of which involves the child's inability to obtain viable employment, which places them in a position of dependency. Furthermore, children do not fully comprehend the potential consequences of their actions. And these consequences involve both emotional and social ramifications that could ultimately be detrimental to the child's well-being. In other words, even were a child to "allegedly" consent, it could not be characterized as "informed" consent. If the NAMBLA members actually understood this (and I think they do, they are simply ignoring it) and loved children (as they so claim), they would forego any sort of sexual contact whatsoever with the child in the interest of that child's welfare.
In summary, first and foremost, we do not condone vigilantism. What we do condone however is alerting the relevant law enforcement agencies around the nation to the activities of these predators. What we condone is alerting an unwary public of predators that may be in their midst so they will not be fooled into handing their children over to these monsters. And yes, they are monsters. If you review rikijo's blog, you will see the intercepted applications and queries involve individuals who have openly admitted to "preying" on children. In fact, one individual speaks of 'spawining' his own children so that he can later have sex with them. How sick is that?
Simply put, people who truly love children do not need to form an organization that lobbies for laws to allow them to have sex with, or jack off to pictures of naked, children. NAMBLA not only hides behind the ALCU, but they distribute material on how to gain parents' trust to sexually access and exploit their children.
And these, are the people we are fighting.
