One thing about leprosy: the afflicted body part loses all sensation, making injury to it next to inevitable. Fingers and toes gnawed by rats, hands burned in the cooking fire - you get the picture. * would never even notice if a rat ate his brain or a vacuum cleaner sucked it out through his nostrils while he was asleep.

BUSH WINS: YOU LOSERS LOSE!
Syria will start a pullout of its forces in Lebanon to the Bekaa Valley on Monday, Lebanese Defence Minister Abd al-Rahim Murad said.
"The withdrawal starts tomorrow," Murad said on Sunday, adding that forces would retreat from northern Lebanon and Mount Lebanon in accordance with the Taif Accord that ended Lebanon's 1975-90 civil war. He said the pullback would start immediately after a meeting in Damascus between the leaderships of both countries to approve a withdrawal plan announced on Saturday by Syrian President Bashar al-Asad.

We are in the midst of theater of the absurd right now, but give it a minute. We all know, worldwide how pathetic George Bush is. People coddle, him for some reason. He is mentally disabled and infantile, and I'm sure most people are just waiting for him to be gone. He isn't dangerous. He's simply an expendable pawn. It's all a game. He has 0 influence over Middle Eastern affairs.
The situation in Lebanon has absolutely nothing to do with Gearge Bush. It has to do with age old conflicts from within, and with Syria, and Israel who is trying to annex part of Lebanon. There will be continuing conflict there, and all throughout the Middle East. We will leave, most likely in defeat. The illusion of George's talent at liberation is just about to hit the wall of reality.
How foolish he is, and all the people who weakly mimic one another and try to sing his praises.
Really!

FYI...here is a statement that might illuminate and clarify the situation somewhat. It is important to be factual and patient in all of this childish hysteria, and irresponsible American leadership.
>Hello again,
I have read the articles by Juan Cole and Sam Hamoud. They are impressive, but they speak of half truths. From the population count of Lebanon today to the Falange carrying English signs in the "demonstrations of only 3000." I have held back until now because I feel everybody's opinion is worth reading. Just be careful of those who give you the so called "facts."
I was born in Beirut, reared in Beirut and speak and read the language. I do not think that Hariri was "forced' to resign. He resigned because President Lahoud was allowed to extend his term, thanks to the Syrian controlled Lebanese parliament and cabinet which changed the Lebanese Constitution in order to allow such an extension. The way I hear it and read it, the MOST of Lebanon is sick of the Syrian "CIA" in Lebanon, and if you read your history all the way back, the Lebanese are a fractious bunch who hate everybody. Nobody has really been able to totally dominate the country for any length of time. And incidentally, they are not Phoenicians, although the extreme Right Wing Christians of the country wanted and still want you to think they are. Historical research says otherwise. Like their Phoenician cousins, however, the Lebanese...and I mean all the Lebanese...are not only very sophisticated merchants, but quite politically savvy. Most Lebanese are able to speak three languages with varying degrees of fluency, and will learn what ever language it takes to close the deal economically. Merchants of the highest order. Most of the placards in that demonstration were in both Arabic and English. And yes, they played to the camera, because they knew the whole world was watching.
And yes, we all know that the CIA helped bring on the wars of 1958 and there after. And we know that Israel has always wanted southern Lebanon as part of Greater Israel (the Litani River in snowy, southern Lebanon is the originating source of the Jordan River). Control the Jordon at it source, control Palestine. And we know that it would suit Israel to have the Syrians pull back from Lebanon. And we know that the US supports an Israeli foreign policy, BUT the Lebanese have grown weary of Syria. They are in effect saying to Syria that "we thank your for your help during the Civil War," (if one could really call it that...more like a testing ground of all that was to come in the Middle East after that war, a rehearsal of sorts by all the major powers) "but now it's time to leave. And we are going to try and Lebanese-ize the major part of Hezbollah in the South..." The majority of the Lebanese Opposition Party cuts across cultural, religious, economic boundries. It is gaining strength. They will agree with god or the devil (political pragmatists, the Lebanese; never forget that)if it gets the Syrians out of Lebanon. They will play ball with Condi, Sharon, Assad and Putin if it gets the Syrians out of Lebanon.

George W. Bush cannot spell the word freedom, let alone distinguish it from the word liberty.
"Freedom" is code for "free markets" or "free enterprise." "Liberty" means the right to opt out of either, or join in, as a given country sees fit.
In the case of Iraq, for them to opt out is not acceptable to the United States, because of a prized commodity called oil. If we substitute the word "liberty" every time we hear Bush utter the word "freedom," we'll understand what's going on over there.

I think we are at the point where we must extricate ourselves from the hype and the fear, in order to become really influential. Ignore the politicians. They aren't concerned with us. Unless any of them show any potential. Most of them are afraid of the teacher. And most are afraid or their own lack of power. That's how they got in these positions. We've got to take this into our own hands.
But, I repeat, we will have more power if we voraciously educate ourselves, outside of the pesky ego problems, and try to get to the truth. That's what we are doing here. Sharing knowledge and ideas. Not cowering under some impending doom. And like Brad says, making the truth fun.

No one cares what GWB says. I don't - nor does Russia, Europe, China - or even Lebanon for that matter. GWB is a moron - and guns in the hands of morons puts everyone in danger. However, GWB is also a coward, along with his greedy corporate cronies - their time in power is limited - and our goal is that their time in jail will be unlimited. America can't afford to continue to let their country be highjacked by morons. America has lost the respect of the entire world, and placed the safety and security of its citizens in extreme danger throughout the world. It will not regain any respect during this generation, and will not regain respect ever unless it puts a stop to this nonsense which makes all Americans look totally ridiculous and completely vulnerable - militarily, economically and otherwise. If GWB is the best you can do, then I'm afraid you are FINISHED!

I suppose we shouldn't be surprised, he barged into both terms uninvited by most of us Americans. He wants to PARTY! Hi all,
I read bradblog daily but this is my first post. I just have a few words for mr. atty. frankman.
It is not so surprising that Sen. Kennedy reads the bible. Did you think we would all be shocked at the notion! Not to shock you, but many liberals are new testament believing and practicing Christians, and this is exactly why we support the politics we do. The greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself. Do you think you right wing nuts have the corner market on Christianity? I think not! You will know them by their fruit, and let me tell you GW has no fruit of the spirit. In fact, he has used the Evangelical Christians for votes. In 1993, as part of his fathers re-election campaign, GW studied this group of people and how one would most likely get their votes. So, he used this information in his own campaign; GW's "christianty" is nothing more than a campaign strategy.
As far as the above Bush quote goes, I am not stunned. I have come to expect nothing less than lies, hypocrisy, and contradiction from this group of Repugs.

re #54. Hey AAUSA! Welcome to the discussion. Don't worry about the OT. Plenty of comments earlier in the thread were even more OT than yours, and some of them were vicious and ignorant as well. Polite and informed OT posts are a relief compared to that stuff.

Supersoling #59 -
"Il Manifesto" IS communist, according to Amy Goodman. Another label, equally damning to our MSM's tender sensibilities, is "left-wing." Oh my.
The world according to Senator McCarthy.

Just another thought about Frankensteinbush #44 item, and the numerous other posts which intend to pass the word that Gan/Guk has been active for 'many years' and appearently has a rather loose tongue.
That 'loose tongue' with or without sufficient provocation or cash (he is a whore you know) might be a concern for those who may be included in the many years of diary or calander entries
by Gan/Guk.
Those folks may prefer to remain 'not outed' but now should fear that the winds from Gan/Guk are now blowing. And the leaves of the 'bushes' can be as readily blown off by direct blast or by collateral damage.
Anyway, fb spread the word. Widely.
And, fb-I'm not big on prayer but may I suggest one for you to pass on to Gan/Guk--
"Please God, protect me from my friends, I will watch out for my my enemies myself."

Yeah.. amazing how we are "sure" Iran is making nukes "in secret", like Iraq had "nukes, but they are a secret".. Now we are telling other countries "your presence is a hinderance", but the same doesn't apply to our presence in Iraq.. Kind of like how -all- the wingnut rehtoric is all about "this is good for you, but I have different rules.. you must pay for my riches and like it"..
Frankenbraindead.. my my.. As was pointed out, there are plenty of Liberals that are Christian as well, being Christian has NOTHING (well, according to our CONSTITUTION anyway) to do with law or politics.. to bring Christianity into it means you don't support the Constitution, and YOU should leave MY country Oh, and I've not read anything from the "left" that has issue with Gannon being "gay", just that a whore in the White House was given "classified documents" while lying about his identity.. His being gay is just -another- example of how the morons on the right side of the isle are absolute hypocrits .. I know, I know.. you don't care.. cause the same rules that apply to the rest of the world don't apply to you, so being a scumbag hypocrit doesn't apply to you, only to Liberals if you can find a way to twist their view to "look" hypocritical (like trying to bring up the Christrian thing, or the gay thing).. Poor pathetic little man..

Thanks :0)
Had I time to rewrite my original post, I would have said that I didn't know whether or not Il Manifesto was communist, and that I don't see that it matters, only in the way that CNN used the label "communist" to get a desired effect from it's readers. It almost implies that the shooting was justified *because* she writes for a communist paper.

Why is it so surprising that Ted Kennedy would say he reads the bible? He is Catholic, and yes, the Catholic Church was the first Christian church, and surprise, surprise, Catholics do at times read the bible. duh...Why do some people think they alone own rights to GOD and the holy scripture? There are multi millions of people who read the bible besides those who claim to be the righteous religious right!

Amen. Remember everyone: Jesus was an honest, perceptive man trying to expose a corrupt, wordly theogarchical status quo. With the Beatitudes. Why aren't we arguing about whether THEY should be displayed on government property, I wonder?

As an agnostic / near athiest, I wish everyone would leave religion out of political discussions, and matters of governance. The history of religion fueled warfare is long and bloody, and few if any denominations are innocent save maybe the Quakers.
Our current pResident has seen fit to cast all Americans, through his words, as being soldiers in a *crusade* against evil. Those who invoke religious rhetoric with the purpose to incite fear and anger, in order to mobilize their minions, are traitorous to the basic ideals of Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, The Great Spirit, and so on.
Bush and Bin Laden both, have prostituted their peoples faith as the means to carry on that bloody history.

Is it true (if so are there some good examples?) that Liberal/Left's around the world tend to like and respect one another while Conservative/Right's around the world don't tend to like and respect each other?

Miss Persistent #74 - I am neither Liberal or Conservative, right or left. I listen to my conscience and try to determine what is the right thing to do in any given case, given the "Christian (as in new testament) principals" which I believe in, and also practical given the limitations of the physical world. My observations of American politics started ONLY with the Monica/Clinton scandal, which I listened to and followed daily in complete fascination. Since then I continued to follow American politics, primarily thru TV, thru the 2000 and 2004 elections. I now do not own a TV. But, GENERALLY of course, I have found Repubs. to be obnoxious, short-sighted, fast and loose with facts, certain they are right, intolerant, unpleasant, devious but not particularly intelligent, selfish and self-centered. They turn me completely off. Do I love Democrats. Not necessarily. But like the position Gov. Dean took, he believes it's more practical to try to reform the Democratic Party than to start a new party. Some party has to represent the rights of the American people, and in order to have effect, that party has to have some power, at least. The Democrats currently have more power than Nader or the Greens, for example. The Republican party represents corporations and those with money, who have contempt for social programs for those who are less fortunate than themselves: not everyone is born smart, or rich, or exceptionally talented, or with great parents, or healthy, or in good towns with jobs, etc. Republicans have no empathy, and no ability to imagine what it's like to be in other peoples' less fortunate situations. They don't wish to share their good fortune in life with anyone else. It means less for them. They want to keep their money for their own luxuries and are prepared to go to any lengths to do so, lies, for example. I should also say, this particular attitude reeks of FEAR. This is not something I have dreamed up. It is based on my observations of what the Republicans in politics have said and done themselves over the past seven years or so, since I started listening. This does not apply to every Republican. But unfortunately, many Republicans, despite the drastically wrong turn taken by the party, cling to the label "Republican" as if it's a religion, or as die-hard fans of the local football/baseball team. They won't change their affiliation come hell or high water. This attitude is insane. You either stand for justice, or not. You either stand for fair elections, or not. You either stand against an unjust war, or not. You either stand for the truth, or not. These are not grey area issues. If the party in power is corrupt, you do not support it, whether it is REPUB., DEMO, GREEN, SOCIAL, COMM. The purported name of the party is irrelevant, when the true name of the party is CORRUPTION. Have I documented my observations to be presented as facts and data - no - but this is my personal experience. (Aren't you sorry you asked?)

This statement proves just how dumb our moral president is: Usually when people make statements that don't quite make sense, they catch themselves, no not him. He doesn't even hear himself speak.. (Where is Bush's brain, while he's making statements like this-Karl Rove???) He is one of the most unmoral people in america, thinking that he can be the big powerful bully, and just dictate to other countries how they should be free and democratic. Practice what u preach Mr. Bush!!!!Start by fixing your own Country!!! U can't fix the world, even though your fellow republicans lead u to believe u can..Just a bunch of rich, corporate loving, over paid politicians, that don't live in the world all of us do..
