Think of it not so much as a defeat for women's rights, family planning, the rule of law and so on as a victory for the hanger industry.

Why is CNN interviewing him? That's obscene.

Roeder is indeed a "Domestic Terrorist" as defined by the U.S. Patriot Act:
Title VIII alters the definitions of terrorism, and establishes or re-defines rules with which to deal with it. It redefined the term "domestic terrorism" to broadly include mass destruction as well as assassination or kidnapping as a terrorist activity.
The definition also encompasses activities that are
1.) "dangerous to human life
2.) that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State"
3.) and are intended to "intimidate or coerce a civilian population," "influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion," or are undertaken "to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping" while in the jurisdiction of the United States.
Terrorism is also included in the definition of racketeering.
A number of measures were introduced in an attempt to prevent and penalize activities that are deemed to support terrorism. It was made a crime to harbor or conceal terrorists, and those who do are subject to a fine or imprisonment of up to 10 years, or both. U.S. forfeiture law was also amended to allow authorities to seize all foreign and domestic assets from any group or individual that is caught planning to commit acts of terrorism against the U.S. or U.S. citizens.
Assets may also be seized if they have been acquired or maintained by an individual or organization for the purposes of further terrorist activities.
http://en.wikipedia.org/...:_Terrorism_criminal_law
So anyone who belongs to or financially supports any anti-choice group that encourages vigilantism, can also be designated as a "Domestic Terrorist", can be arrested and have all of their assets seized by the federal government.
Who would have ever thought the unconstitutional U.S. Patriot Act, which was brought to you by Conservatives, could ironically be used against themselves?
HA!

Apply "special circumstances" to any crime committed with a firearm. Maybe not sentence all offenders to death - but it should be possible in every single such case.
The only real terrorists in the US today are rightwingnuts. Rush is clearly OUR Osama.

SPLC: Shooter had deep ties to far-right extremists
by Jed Lewison
Wed Jun 10, 2009 at 12:38:26 PM PDT
Heidi Beirich of the Southern Poverty Law Center says the SPLC had been tracking James von Brunn's involvement with right-wing extremists, including neo-Nazis and white supremacists, since the 1970s. (Update: Here's SPLC's blog post on von Brunn. --Jed)
Update:The White House reacts:
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in his regular briefing today that President Obama is "saddened" by reports of a shooting at the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. and is monitoring the situation as it develops.
"Not too long before coming out here, probably about 1:55 or so, [I] had an opportunity to speak with the president about the shooting at the Holocaust Museum today, informed him of the situation, gave him the details that we had been given via the Situation Room," Gibbs said. "He asked about the condition of the security guard."
Asked about White House involvement in the situation, Gibbs said the White House is "in contact with and get updates from Homeland Security Council and other agencies like the FBI."
CNN is reporting that a news conference will be starting momentarily - use this as a live thread. - BarbinMD
Update: CNN is reporting that a guard at the museum has died. No further details. - BarbinMD

Here's what I'm wondering: is the FBI infiltrating these extremist violent terrorist groups to find out which individuals or clinics may be targeted next?

I don't suppose anyone would consider backing off the "terrorist" lingo so as not to be feeding the cause of the fascist/police state mentality of the people in control of our government?
I'm heavily in favor of cooling the rhetoric of vigilante groups wherever possible, warning them that they are being watched lest they commit this kind of crime, but the feds have been infiltrating mosques and right wing extremist groups for a long time, inciting members to violence so they can bust them for it, and it's not working out well for us... or the Constitution.
Don't forget, Ruby Ridge was caused by the guy REFUSING to help the feds put stink on purported extremists.
We need to be working on the roots of these weeds.

Agent 99 -Agreed
This will work in favor of policing Americans and controlling guns. It worlks out great for the false left-right paradigm. Which it seems many readers of the Brad Blog by into heavily.
Kevin Shmidt-Sorry, but this man is not "one of them" he is one of us. They dont give a shit about Democrat ot Republican, this is making Americans out to be terrorists while the tortuters and harborers of illigal occupations will work this against our civil liberties.
Mr. Beck is allready calling the Museum shooter a 9/11 truth movement hero, no one has ever heard of this guy! So stop playing the cards the media is giving you.....soon you call your mother a terrorist.

The antiabortion wingnuts seem to think that terrorism and murder are exeptable ways to get what they want. It may not work. A new doctor is already trying to reopen a clinic in Wichita.

The FBI has no problem watching and infiltrating peaceable left-leaning groups; just wondering if they were doing the same for the violent, terroristic right-wing groups as well. If all they are doing is causing more violence, then of course I'm not advocating it. I want them to do their job like they're supposed to do it.
I don't usually go around using the "T" word...just making/agreeing with the point that "terrorist" is often used by extremist right-wingers to describe "others" who may not necessarily fit the "terrorist" definition, not members of their own fringe.

Lora, while your comment prompted me to mention it, I wasn't picking on you. I was talking to everyone.
Studies have been done many's the time that show people love to "belong"... that communities and groups only hold together when they have common ideals. This unfortunately holds even more so for when they have common enemies. So in the socio/political arena enemies are dreamed up and vilified to get groups of people to go along with stuff they might not otherwise agree to. Herd animals. We have a terrible tendency to opt for the easy way, the way of what we perceive our fellows endorse.
On the one hand, life is so difficult for most of us that we can hardly be blamed for taking the more restful approach, but on the other, we can't climb out of hell until will cut that shit out and come together against the real threats. We have no energy to take down, say, Monsanto when we're busy guarding against the queers ruining our marriages and the racists going to blow people away, and the pro-life hypocrites going militant, and the Arabs smuggling in bombs. We can't stop wars. We can't get our constitution back. We can't make sense prevail in how we conduct elections. We can't stop Wall Street from sucking the blood out of our veins. We can't loose our government from corporate control.
We're just too busy struggling and fearing those who've snapped behind all the horrors our politics have brought to a boil.
The media is egging this on. The media is run by those who gain from it. I feel the alternative media has fallen for this same stuff to a terrifying extent. I make a practice of stopping by various groupthink blogs when I can bear it, and this stuff is raging away on the internet. Molten propaganda flying off our monitors and hitting us in the face. Gotta take down those maniacs on the other side!
There couldn't be any celebrity polemicists if people didn't lap it up in their desperate need to belong, to have something to grasp tightly to stabilize them in this planetary free fall we call the modern world.
Sarah Palin would be a housewife mother of fifteen who had to shoot wolves from ground level.
I just every so often have to pipe up and plead for us to do better. I don't mean to be insulting. Seriously. When I mean to be insulting, it's just carnage everywhere you look. The rest of the time, it's me stumping for us to work harder to do better.

99,
No offense taken. I wasn't feeling picked on.
Glad you are asking all of us to do better.
It is dangerously lulling to feel good about going after the fringes. Easy to ignore the status quo of global corporations who are murdering, maiming, and otherwise sucking dry millions upon millions of us and ruining the planet in the process. Kinda like thinking you are environmentally responsible because you spent an afternoon picking up litter along the highway.
