The biggest sham of all time: the rightwing/Republicans and their operatives convincing the public that the media is "liberal":
David Brock, the reformed conservative noise-maker, on how the Right has sabotaged journalism, democracy, and truth.
As a young journalist in the 1990s, David Brock was a key cog the Republican noise machine. Writing for the American Spectator, a conservative magazine funded by billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife, Brock gained fame for his attack pieces on Anita Hill and President Bill Clinton. Then, in 2002, Brock came clean. In his memoir, Blinded by the Right, Brock admitted that his work was based on lies and distortion, and part of a coordinated smear campaign funded by wealthy right wing groups to discredit Clinton and confuse the public.
Since then, Brock has continued to expose the conservative media onslaught. In his newest book, The Republican Noise Machine, Brock documents how right-wing groups pressure the media and spread misinformation to the public. It's easy to see how this is done.
Fringe conspiracies and stories will be kept alive by outlets like Rush Limbaugh, the Washington Times, and the Drudge Report, until they finally break into the mainstream media.
Media groups like Brent Bozell's Media Research Center have spent 30 years convincing the public that the media is, in fact, liberal. As Brock says, it's all a sham: "I have seen, and I know firsthand, indeed from my own pen, how the organized Right has sabotaged not only journalism but also democracy and truth."

They have billionaires funding the sham. Read "The Republican Noise Machine" by David Brock.

The other misleading visual is that the low point of the DJIA (y-axis) on the chart is set at 6,500, or just below the current DJIA, so the drop looks much more dramatic than had the low point been DJIA = 0. The network that has flaming liberal Joe Scarborough on for three hours Mon.-Fri. did Obama no favors with that chart.

Thanks for that link, Flo. What a great guy. Made me cry. Made me want to reach through my monitor and hug him. I wish Obama deserved his support.

Well, Lora, he doesn't deserve the bashing on the economy, but for trying to protect Yoo and company, refusing to give full protections for detainees at Bagram, the marked disinclination to protect our Constitution with prosecutions for the multifarious felonies and treason of the * administration... he's not getting bashed enough.
And there's still a bunch of stuff from his short term in the Senate he needs to get nailed for too.
And his ears stick out.

David Brock is somebody I respect a great deal, because he was willing to ADMIT that he had behaved criminally and immorally during his time as a Rethuglican and then MAKE AMENDS for his actions by doing the right thing, over and over again.
There are so many other complicit Rethuglicans who are happy to back away from Rethuglicanism now that it has been greatly discredited, but are not willing to admit their role in the original crimes, nor make any amends. The biggest one who comes to mind is Paul Craig Roberts, who was a major player in the Reagan years and a big proponent of trickle-down. He now regularly writes about how bad Bush is/was, but never seems to get around to admitting his own role in the crimes of the last 25 years. It's still as if Reagan was some sort of saint, and everything bad that happened was since he left office.
And what people should understand about the whole Wall Street fiasco is that it was not a SYMPTOM of the Bush years, it was the REASON.
Everybody thinks Bush and Cheney took power in order to foster a fascist dictatorship, destroy the constitution, create an imperial Presidency, and screw up the Middle East. Nope. Those were just STEPS in a bigger scheme.
The Bush/Cheney Government was one simple thing: a bank robbery. The idea was to steal 200-300 BILLION dollars from the US Treasury. Prior to the B/C govt., stealing 200 MILLION would have been considered a massive crime. The idea of stealing one THOUSAND times that much was literaly inconvievable.
And to steal hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars in plain sight, you would nead a VERY big gun. The weapon that was held at the heads of the Democratic-controlled House and Senate in the waning days of the B/C government was created over seven years. It was created through a visible destruction of the Bill of Rights, Constitution, and American adherence to international law. It was created through ALLOWING knowledge of torture to become known (rather than hidden in the back rooms of CIA secret prisons and spy novels), NOT to defend it, but to frighten American citizens into believing that it could happen to them.
The gun that was held to the heads of the Democrats who voted for the TARP was "Martial Law" and the threat of the total desctruction of the Constitutional Republic that we had spend 200+ years building.
And with that gun firly to their heads, the Democrats in Congress caved and handed over enough money that 200-300 BILLION could be stolen.
Amazing crime. There will never be one quite like it again.
And only by doing it "in plain sight" could the purpetrators be sure of getting away with it.

No argument there.
And his ears stick out.
Awww c'mon! They're cute!
I'm all for criticism where criticism is due.
I'm not for GOP-style hatchet jobs. They will take any legitimate criticism and run with it, distorting it and trying to make him into the Worst President Ever, attempting to scratch dirt over THEIR W.P.E and hide the stink of it by barking and howling about how Obama's gonna ruin the country.
Makes me want to defend Obama, probably more than he deserves, to counter the poison.

Flo, if Obama follows form, he will cave and Freeman won't get the job. I can't believe what a pansy he's being about some things and what a damn Darth Fudd he's being about others. If Freeman gets in, I will definitely sing the president's praises, for at least a whole day... maybe even a week.
Lora, don't let the GOP make you want to defend him! That's their sick, unamerican, evil, deadly stupid shtick! Watch what Obama does, because he's shown for sure that listening to what he says is just enjoying an opportunity to be a wistful chump. We have to force him to perform.
And, everyone, keep yer ears closed to the Tush Lumpboilesque crap coming out of the right wing. It is designed, as Lora says, to divide us... keep the dumb bubbas foaming at the mouth....
Just don't let that noise give you the urge to stand up for Obama or anyone who doesn't deserve it. That just brings us all down.
Obama's ears don't get to be cute again until he does something truly great, truly worthy. It's his punishment for heinous things he didn't have the courage to resist.
