In a short item on Michael Steele — the recently-elected, first African-American chair of the RNC — and his requested resignation of all 100 members of the committee, in order to presumably rebuild it from scratch, rightwing blogger Matt Lewis’ coverage at AOL, uses an unfortunate turn of phrase [emphasis added]…

The reformers won, and — unlike Obama who seems to have used “change” as merely an slogan — Steele (so far) appears to be “governing” (inasmuch as an RNC chairman can “govern”) — as a true change-agent.
By the same token, one hopes Steele will not throw the baby out with the bath water.
Whoops. As mentioned, unfortunate turn of phrase…

Steele isn’t the ‘token’ black, after all there’s Alan Keyes, and even Don King stumped for bush!
From 2004:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6065770/
6.7% black representation by delegates, the highest since 1912!
However, I’m sure the representation by christian neonazi evangelicals is fairly high, so the republicans don’t shun EVERY minority.
Glad you cleared that up, Disillusioned! Was about to add you to the disinfo list! 🙂
[ed note: Brad’s referring to Disillusioned having mistakenly used Al Sharpton’s name where he mean to say Alan Keyes, but Brad didn’t refresh his page to see that I had corrected it for Disillusioned…. Lesson: Always refresh the page at Brad Blog frequently. 😛 –99]
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Picking a black guy to run the RNC is a smokescreen to make people think there’s a black Senator or congressman. There’s ZERO black GOP senators or congressmen in the federal government. Now the GOP can say: “Yeah, but there’s a token black guy running the RNC! Whoops! Did I say ‘token’ out loud???”
Weak! Why are you worrying about the irrelevant out of power party? Man up to your own issues!
The party not in power must be watched. They were far too dangerous while they were in power. Now they are like wounded wild animals and could become even more dangerous and out of control, trying to steal back their lost power no matter what the cost, or laws broken. We must never stop being vigilant, ever again!!!!!!!!!
The Republicans are still the vicious fascists they have always been since 1968 and require constant observation.
Oh my God, so funny calling religious people Nazis. You folks sure are more enlightened than all of us. Gee, even the people in the middle, who are libertarians, probably aren’t a progressive and accepting as you.
In honesty, stop saying the same stupid, hateful shit yourself. Look in the mirror. God, all we want is for everyone to shut the fuck up. Is that possible? No bitching for one fucking day.
Tell me. How have the Democrats improved the plight of the black population in 40 years of votes for them? Give me one concrete example how urban life is better?
Baltimore, DC, Detroit, Philly… Yea, black liberal socialistic policies sure seem to be working…
I look forward to the Republicans getting silenced and destroyed, because then your own special interest party can come for you, silence you, tax you, disenfranchise you. Because the actual fascism is coming from the guise of ‘fairness’, increased taxation and reverse nationalism where the American dream must be sacrificed for ‘global warming’ and other government building enterprises.
Good luck with that. I’ll be dying on my feet, not sucking from the system.
