And as Cal Thomas Once Said: 'Let the Tribunal Begin'
First to Be Charged: Cal Thomas [ARTICLE UPDATED]

The emailer who forwarded us the following toon, marking the 4th Anniversary of Bush's "Mission Accomplished" speech, aptly commented: "The amazing thing about this is that all of these people still have their jobs and appear as expert pundits in the media, while the people who were right all along are often portrayed as left-wing out-of-touch-with-reality naive nutty fools, and they don't get on the talk shows very much."

No kidding. The failure of our current corporate mainstream media in a nutshell.

But be sure to read through to the bottom of this post, for an additional stunning quote from Cal Thomas' April 15, 2003 column which Tom Tomorrow, the creator of this toon, mentioned he wasn't able to fit into this strip...

In posting the above to Huffington Post late last week, Tomorrow points us to this April 15, 2003 column from Cal Thomas, "America's most widely syndicated op-ed columnist," according to his bio at TownHall.org. Thomas, we should note, still has the same job he did when he wrote the following incredible words, criticizing the critics of the war at that point...

All of the printed and voiced prophecies should be saved in an archive. When these false prophets again appear, they can be reminded of the error of their previous ways and at least be offered an opportunity to recant and repent. Otherwise, they will return to us in another situation where their expertise will be acknowledged, or taken for granted, but their credibility will be lacking.

If these false media prophets won't "fess up," then let the tribunal begin at an academic institution or in a major television studio. I'll bet it would claim high ratings for the Fox News Channel, which is clobbering its competition precisely because the public recognizes false prophets when it sees them.

UPDATE: Ironically enough, Thomas recently emceed the Media Research Center's 20th Anniversary Gala "DisHonors Awards", with much pomp and circumstance where perceived "liberal" journalists were awarded the following honors:

  • "God, I Hate America Award"
  • "Dan Rather Memorial Award for the Stupidest Analysis"
  • "The I’m Not a Political Genius But I Play One on TV Award"
  • "Tin Foil Hat Award for Crazy Conspiracy Theories"

Oh, the hilarity!
