The emailer who forwarded us the following toon, marking the 4th Anniversary of Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” speech, aptly commented: “The amazing thing about this is that all of these people still have their jobs and appear as expert pundits in the media, while the people who were right all along are often portrayed as left-wing out-of-touch-with-reality naive nutty fools, and they don’t get on the talk shows very much.”
No kidding. The failure of our current corporate mainstream media in a nutshell.
But be sure to read through to the bottom of this post, for an additional stunning quote from Cal Thomas’ April 15, 2003 column which Tom Tomorrow, the creator of this toon, mentioned he wasn’t able to fit into this strip…
In posting the above to Huffington Post late last week, Tomorrow points us to this April 15, 2003 column from Cal Thomas, “America’s most widely syndicated op-ed columnist,” according to his bio at TownHall.org. Thomas, we should note, still has the same job he did when he wrote the following incredible words, criticizing the critics of the war at that point…
If these false media prophets won’t “fess up,” then let the tribunal begin at an academic institution or in a major television studio. I’ll bet it would claim high ratings for the Fox News Channel, which is clobbering its competition precisely because the public recognizes false prophets when it sees them.
UPDATE: Ironically enough, Thomas recently emceed the Media Research Center’s 20th Anniversary Gala “DisHonors Awards”, with much pomp and circumstance where perceived “liberal” journalists were awarded the following honors:
- “God, I Hate America Award”
- “Dan Rather Memorial Award for the Stupidest Analysis”
- “The I’m Not a Political Genius But I Play One on TV Award”
- “Tin Foil Hat Award for Crazy Conspiracy Theories”
Oh, the hilarity!

Do y’all think Cal’s bad comb-over is a sign of a false prophet?
shw
Shannon’s comment pretty much sums this post up, it’s about as important as a comb over.
They WANTED to believe, they were told they SHOULD believe, they bought it hoook line and sinker.
Brad, this link belongs on the front page:

The forged “Niger Yellow Cake Memo” origin is alleged by a 27 year CIA analyst to lead right to the office of the Vice president.
Gee, whodathunkit?
A Trillion dollar war, almost a million Iraqi deaths, and the war on terror just a glimmer in the distant past now….This scumbag needs to be impeached now, and then handed over to the French so THEY can prosecute him, and then….On the the Hague for his warcrimes trial.
Tom Tomorrow has never been a yeasayer, (not a real word), but has DEFINITELY helped me get through this seven year acid trip.
The pundits, (learned persons), manifest destiny is fortunately, unemployment.

Please call, write, visit all of your legislators,

IMPEACHMENT IS NECESSARY!
Brad, absolutely wonderful post.
Why not go back in this blog’s history and show that while these delusional pundits were selling these lies, bloggers were “spot on”, as the brits say, and were not asleep at the wheel (the majority of dems in the House voted against it too).
We saw it then for what it was (a republican war), we projected what it was going to become (republican propaganda storm), and we now smell it for “all that it can be” (torturing a small nation with big oil out of existence).
The only way to handle self delusion is more self delusion. The RNC cannot see their own mistakes … especially the greatest foreign policy mistakes of all time … and, by all appearances, are doomed to remain deluded.
Denial is one of the viruses that infects with delusion … and keeps it spreading … and keeps it spreading … and keeps it spreading … and keeps it spreading …
Praise the booty, pass the unarmored humvees, and hide the coffins until after the election.
Just in case any fundies might read this thread, here is a quote, from what you call The Good Book.
The quote indicates that sometimes the bad prophets outnumber the good prophets:
(I Ki 18:22). The thrust of the story is that the weight of numbers doesn’t always carry the entire story or even the accurate story.
And, perhaps, that drifting from the facts can lead to a mob psychology posing as a sane consensus. So here is one more for ya:
(Exod 23:2). If you are going to have a faith, make sure it is not blind faith. Resisting blind faith is “hard work”, but it is the essence of the true prophets of the 4th estate.
Read the words of Senator Byrd, on the floor of the US Senate, as he opposed the Iraq war resolution in 2003.
Senator Byrd, the elderly and physically frail statesman was one of those with vision. A vision that could remember the lessons of history, and see thru the fog of the neoCon madness that was moving in to cover the truth in our nation’s capitol.
Fantastic ‘cartoon’ Brad!
Keep up the great work.
