The announcement of the sudden passing of the Congresswoman from California’s 37th district today comes as both a surprise and a tragic loss. She was the first African-American woman to chair the important U.S. House Administration Committee, having taken the chair for the first time this past January in the 110th Congress. It had previously been held by Vern Ehlers (R-MI) who had taken over from Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH) after he stepped down in the wake of his Abramoff-related corruption charges.
We covered the announcement of her cancer diagnosis and subsequent request for a temporary leave of absence last week from her post as chair of the committee which is currently overseeing the scheduled mark-up of Rep. Rush Holt’s Election Reform bill (HR811). Our coverage last week described who might take over the committee in her absence.
Both The Hill and AP have additional details on Millender-McDonald’s passing.

Condolences to her family and friends.
I want some evidence that her death was the result of what the MSM says it was.
This thread and this thread show that there are energies at work that raise questions and reasons we should demand verification.
I would accept valid verification gladly, but would not do so blindly.
My skepticism is a Paul Wellstone thingy. Hell, I even like the movie “Conspiracy Theory”. Go figure.
Democrats just plain don’t live as long as Republicans. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Only the good die young or get sick or poisoned, I guess.
Kennedy, Kennedy, Kennedy, Wellstone, Carnahan, Owens, Leahy, Dashle, Millender-McDonald, Who was that Democrat that got shot by a Republican running against him, who was the Democrat that just had heart problems and puts the Senate at risk?
I don’t know. What’s going on here?
Eternal peace sister.
I’ll echo Ancient’s thoughts.
Yet, in the back of my mind, I have to ask, Coincidence?
There’s too much coincidences going on.
She fought the good fight up until the end. Hope she knew how much we appreciated that.
Peace..
How strange. A month after forming a task force to investigate the “election” in Florida 13, she gets diagnosed with cancer, says she is taking a leave of absence, and promptly dies.
Good thing the C.I.A. doesn’t have some device that can be used from a house across the street from someone to beam microwave radiation directly at them to GIVE them “fast-onset” cancer.
Oh wait, since the Soviets used just such a device to give leukemia to the ambassador and others at Moscow station, and the C.I.A. quickly developed their own version of it, they have had such a thing in their arsenal since the 1960s. Nevermind.
