As a serious leftist there are few politicians in this country one can look to for inspiration. Many of them, long dead, have been forgotten as we pursue dreams of milk and honey. One of these politicians is Bob LaFollette of Wisconsin. As one of the 56 members of congress who voted against entry into the First World War, Senator LaFollette, like many of the radical left, was villified during the time of war fever and red baiting. Speaking not only for himself but for the average person who resisted the war, and knowing full well of the graves of the nameless to be filled, Bob LaFollette adressed the Senate in the following words:
This statement is as poignant today as it was 87 years ago.

Thank you, john
do u hav any quotes from Karl Marx?
68.78.128.82,
What’s the problem with Senator Bob LaFollette? You disagree with a man standing up for principles? Or is it just the opposition to imperial wars that bothers you?
Nice post though. It is a precise demonstration of Lafollette’s point.
how does my asking for Marx quotes demonstate his point?
how was WWI an imperialist war?

WTF
Brad J – let these guys continue with their leftist love. They have only been proven over and over again that they are on the losing side. The ashheap of history as it were. These communists, which is what they are, who hate war, forget how communists come to power and also forgot that Stalin killed 40 million of his own people.

Your insinuation that he, and my extension, i am a Marxist. its paining people with the brush of an ideology, it was once called red baiting, in order to cut short or delegitimate public discourse. Its a cute trick but i don’t buy it.
in terms of imperialism, i would suggest that you understand the events leading to the military build up and alliances in Europe. One of the major issues was Germany’s imperial holdings and their rather dismal returns when compared to the British and French. One of the precursers to the war was the Boer war in South Africa in which the Boers were supported with military arms by the Germans.
The immediate cause of the war, the assassination of the Archduke and his wife was carried out by a nationalist, Gavrilo Prinzip, a Serb nationalist who saw himself fighting against the Austro-Hungarian empire for the political independence of a colonized people.
Hi pals, here is the site which says which were the worst 10 regimes of the 20th cnetury, suprisingly for illiberals, none of the top 5 were left wing.
