Ah yes! Where was your praise for JC Watts? Clarence Thomas? Condi Rice? Colin Powell? Colin Powell's son?
Very good speech. Very uplifting. Very much a speech to get applauses. Better speech than the others including Clinton's. However, not based on reality. Not based on the beliefs of the left. With the left, it is all about racism, bigotry, sexism, anti-war, anti-life, etc. There "are" conservatives and liberals, and states that voted for Bush (red) and states that voted for Gore (blue)[not his own state of course]. I liked his quote of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," however; Dems typically want to deny the basic fundamental of "Life" for the unborn. I watched all night on C-Span. Wow! A tame but unreal Dean and unreal Kennedy. I cannot take it any longer. Boring! I doubt I will watch it tonight. And Kerry's wife? What a strange person! Global climates will change under Kerry? What a nut! She spoke like a New Ager.
God is worshipped in all 50 states, but God should be the object of the praise, not the earth. New Age earth-worshippers call the Dem Party their home. Of course, the others call Nader's party their home.
I cannot believe the black preacher of the United Church of Christ spoke his support for Kerry from his church. Our church of 6,000 folks on the weekends would lose our tax exception status if our preacher told us to vote for Bush. There is a different standard for some folks which does not make us one America. And I beleive it is Edwards who keeps saying there are "two America's." Hmm! Which one's right? Edwards or Obama?

In the Bizarro world of the grassroots conservative toilet Freerepublic, they're calling him:
Clinton-like snake
oily scumbag
Popular gangstas like Obama
racist commie
douchebag
fruity
He is slightly reminiscent of Malcolm X
He's just another black democrat that the media wants to cling to
silver tongued devil
SCARY
socialist, looney-left
Commie Obamie
***I guess there's Nothing conservatives hate more than an uppity black.

Thanks for pointing me to freerepublic.com. Never read their stuff. Didn't know Obama was getting support from George Soros. It is not about an uppity black, it is about liberalism and conservatism. Obama is a liberal.

I am sure they meant it with the utmost respect. He has a complete bag of nothing as indicated by his BS speech last night. I can't believe Brad could listen to this guy and then tell me I have nothing to say.

Paul asked:
"I beleive it is Edwards who keeps saying there are "two America's." Hmm! Which one's right? Edwards or Obama?"
Edwards literally. Obama rhetorically. A distinction I'm sure that a clever person such as yourself will be able to make.
He also stated (without any evidence):
"I cannot believe the black preacher of the United Church of Christ spoke his support for Kerry from his church. Our church of 6,000 folks on the weekends would lose our tax exception status if our preacher told us to vote for Bush."
Do you have any documentation of that, Paul? Thanks in advance for a link to the substantiation you have for that argument.
By the way, you're well familiar with the Catholic Bishops who have informed their flock that they should not vote for a politician who is in favor of a woman's right to choose? And Bush having met with another Bishop asking him to do what he can to help? (I'll be happy to supply you with an URL if you're not familiar with the matter).
Anyway...thansk in advance for sending us a link to what you're speaking about vis a vis the United Church of Christ! Thanks!

ed,
Hate to point this out, but if Mr. Obama "has a complete bag of nothing" as you claim, why was he up 20 points above the republican contender before the guy dropped out? This was THE guy for republicans. made oodles of cash and left to teach at an inner city private school. But the fact is he was 20 points down in the poles.
Fact is Mr. Obama is a good speaker with decent ideas. Not far enough to the left for me but no one's perfect. Fact is the republicans can't find anyone to throw themselves under the Obama steamroller. In six years they will use this as a tactic in running against him but the comeback will be to ask where all the chickenhawks were when he was running unapposed.
Face it Ed, you guys have just lost a seat.

The preacher was shown at the convention on video last night - saw it on C-Span. He has close ties to Obama. It was Trinity Church of Christ.
The News today has the socialists now joining the communists for Kerry. What a surpise!

He impressed the heck out of me. A well-spoken man, smart as a whip, self-depreciating and has a good sense of humor to boot.
He must be a good candidate. John says he's not left enough, I think he is too far left. That must mean he's doing something right.

Paul, no clue what you're talking about. C-Span.org has most everything on video, however, so feel free to point me to a clip or a page.
It difficult enough getting you guys to admit to your lies and misinformation when the HARD FACTS are put right in front of your face. You guys also tend to take enough stuff out of context and/or misinterpret it's meaning when it's actually written down and/or fact-checkable. So I'm certainly not going to get into a discussion with you about "some video" of "some preacher" that you saw "speaking somewhere" about "something".
Show us what you're talking about and we'll take it from there. Until then, there is nothing to talk about, as you've shown us nothing.

Paul,
i would also like to know which socialists and communists you are referring to. i happen to be somewhat of an expert on serious leftists and i think you may not know what you are talking about. You do know there are many communist and socialist organizations that differ greatly from each other? Different flavors of communists, different flavors of socialists. getting these people into a room to discuss logistics on issues that they agree on in principle is difficult enough. In fact, Sunday i distinctly overheard two communists talking about revolution and how voting is a lie. And maybe you are unaware but that is us on the left in the free speech zones. very few, if any rightists.

Paul...I refer you to Mr. Obama:
"Now even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters and negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes.
Well, I say to them tonight, there's not a liberal America and a conservative America --- there is the United States of America.
There's not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America --- there is the United States of America."
Why are you trying to divide an not unite, Paul? Or should I call you a spin master or negative ad peddler.

You can't unite with the left. Again, great speech, just not reality. Like the entire convention, it was not reality. Al Sharpton, now that speech was closer to reality for the party and they went bonkers.

Sorry you missed it. I cannot find the video. It was one of those home grown/shown between speeches and the reverend ended with “want to get that cowboy out of the white house.” The guy who spoke in the video was Rev. Jeremiah Wright of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ, a close advisor to Obama.
http://illinoisleader.co.../opinionview.asp?c=17943
Here wrote an "IRAQ IQ Test" and passed them out to his followers:
http://www.mindfully.org...Q-Test-Wright23feb03.htm
"Members of Trinity are asked to think about these things and be prayerful as we sift through the "hype" being poured on by the George Bush-controlled media.
Rev Jeremiah A Wright, Jr.
War on Iraq IQ Test - written by: Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, placed the following 'War on Iraq IQ Test' on the Trinity "Pastor's Page" for Sunday, Feb. 23."
He is definitely a political pastor who has no problems talking about it from the pulpit. I hope that someone somewhere records it for the web.

"Feel Better
And none of the Tuesday speakers got the no-Bush-bashing memo. Senator Kennedy was brutal, called the President by name, and invited him to "a tea party --- I know just the place"...
Then Barak Obama's minister said "let's get this cowboy out of the White House!" Guess he didn't get the memo either."

Paul,
i hate to point this out but the Illinois leader is a right wing rag (although i am sure that doesnt bother you). It is not just a rag but the article (and i am being generous here) that you cite has some pretty serious and bizarre errors in it that should call into question its reliability in general.
Let's look at one of them.
"Union Theological Seminary theologian James H. Cone, who is credited with founding liberation theology, is a black nationalist who speaks the lingo of Marxian dialectic."
James Cone is a a theologian whose work i know fairly well (i read the manuscript for his book on MLK and Malcolm X as a student). in case you were unaware (indeed how could you know) i am a theologian with a relatively international reputation. James Cone was not the founder of liberation theology. Liberation theology began in the writings of young theologians writing about the experiences and Synods of the church in Latin America. Its founder, if indeed there could be named one, is the Peruvian theologian Gustavo Guttierez (followed closely by Jose Miranda).
Missing a point as simple as this gives a clue to how inept the writers for this rag are. In fact, if you read the story you will see that the writer refers to 1/6th of the planets population with the term "Moslem" rather than the preferred Muslim. i am actually shocked he didnt use the equally archaic and insulting "Mohammedan".
As to that issue of "the" socialists and "the" communists. you seem strangely silent. What Gives? Unable to back up the bull?

Johnhp - what international "liberal" organization are you a theologian with? I hope it is not the Faith Alliance.
Moslem is correct even though the preferred name is Muslim. I have written an article on Islam.
The point is - the Reverend spoke from a video or live feed at the convention from his church. My pastor could never get away with telling 6,000 people to vote for Bush and he would not do it.
Jesus did not come as a political leader, but as a suffering king. I am sure you are aware of the false doctrines of Dominion Theology/Kingdow Now.

The entire convention is available at C-Span.org - If you actually saw this clip you refer to, then you know who's speed it came before and should be able to find both the Clip it occurs in at C-Span and the time in the clip that it occurs so others can take a look at it.
I don't see anything in the links you gave that proves to be either wrong or problematic. So you'll have to do better.
In the meantime, I'll look forward to your answers to johnhp's questions.

Paul,
i belong to several international organizations and have lectured throughout the US Canada, Europe, and the Middle East. i am not a liberal.
"Moslem" in not preferred by the people whose faith is Islam. i prefer to refer to people by what they ask; it is simply polite.
i note you didnt bother to contest my assertion that the article was incorrect in its statement about James Cone.
Regarding the pastor; it is not an issue. If he spoke to people not of and in his church there is no problem. You assertion is that he was speaking to people not in his church. Your pastor could get away with it.
i am not sure of your problem with political and liberation theologies. Jesus came and called us to work for the benefit of others. You remember that stuff about feeding the poor? That's an inherently political act. You remember what the Johannione letters tell us: love one another in fact not in word.
i see you failed again to mention precisely who these alleged communists and socialists were. i can only assume after asking you so many times and your failure to provide any information in this regard that you are in error.

Paul,
Nice. make a charge and conveniently not be able to find it.
As i said i am a member of several groups, not one. But my reputation does not come from membership in a group it comes from the lectures i have given, the papers published, etc. i am not afraid to name them, but i am not sure why naming them would mean anything. i am not a member of the interfaith alliance but i have no problem with the group. i have worked with them before. i have also worked with folks from Plowshares and Pax Christi. i have been an editor and founding editorial board member of an international catholic journal on theology and social theory (now defunct because of the rightists on the board), i have given lectures on religious violence at the International Social Theory Consortium, and so forth. i have lectured on Scripture and am currently working on a textbook for an introduction to Scripture.
All of this because you felt threatened by a simple question about your false allegations?

I looked on newsmax.com on that date and they must have pulled the article. I do not feel threatened. I just cannot find it - that is all! Once I find another article about socialists, I will let you know.
The Interfaith Alliance is just a liberal front group. Everything they push is a liberal agenda.
So, are you a liberal Catholic (pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage) or a Catholic that follows the Pope? I like the current pope. I saw him in St. Louis.

OK OK OK - sources for communists and socialists for Kerry -
http://www.worldnetdaily...cle.asp?ARTICLE_ID=39627
The Democratic Socialists of America Political Action Committee is officially urging its members to work for the election of John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election.
http://www.worldnetdaily...cle.asp?ARTICLE_ID=34890
The Communist Party USA will not run a candidate for president, will not support progressive third-party bids but will instead throw its support behind the Democratic Party in an all-out effort to defeat President Bush and the Republican Congress.
http://www.iht.com/articles/535387.html
The North Koreans made it very clear, politely, that they want Mr. Kerry to win the election," said Kenneth Quinones, a former U.S. diplomat who was in Pyongyang this month for a Korean studies conference.

Paul, Jesus came as the saviour of the world, not a suffering king. As a matter of fact, the name Jesus means saviour. John the Baptist said "behold the lamd of God that taketh away the sin of the world." Jesus himself said that he came to "seek and save that which was lost." During his second advent he will come as King of kings and Lord of lords, and he will not be suffering but ruling with a iron rod.
