I can never make up my mind if getting rid of the Electoral College is a good thing or not. I think they put it together in the first place to guard against the population falling for an incompetent boob to run our country. That’s not such a bad thing. It’s been debauched by states’ laws that force their electors to vote with the public or go to jail, AND by the maniacal partisanship-above-country-and-sense climate, but… if there could be a way to unpoliticize them and restore their function of guarding the voters from being duped by incompetents and nefarious sorts, I still think that would be the best way to protect us from all kinds of awful fates. Electoral fraud, for instance, could not be effective if the Electoral College could intercede. Yep, better we improve the Electoral College than do away with it.
