Fahrenheit 9/11 continues to smash all records for documentary films. After a full month of release, it’s still in the top 10 releases in the nation (moving from #4 to #6 as of yesterday) and will, by tonight or tomorrow, cross the unprecendented $100 million mark.
In related news, Michael Moore fan Linda Ronstadt will likely be invited back to the Aladdin in Las Vegas when the new owners take over in September. Moore has said he’d like to join Ms. Ronstadt during that appearance to sing “God Bless America” together and would screen F9/11 for free to all casino guests.
In a quote that may help explain why the Aladdin is currently in bankruptcy and preparing for new owners (Planet Hollywood, ironically enough), outgoing Aladdin President Bill Timmins elucidated upon his poor business judgement to CBS News, explaining why he had Ronstadt escorted off the property without even allowing her back to her hotel room first:
Yes. How inappropriate for a performing artist to feel “free” to ply her trade in front of an audience! What could that woman have been thinking?! Where does she think she is? America?!
Yes Linda has every right to "ply her trade" but if she is not prepared to deal with the consequences just like the dixie ho’s she should keep her mouth shut. The management at the Aladdin had every right to do what they did just as Linda had every right to say what she said. Conservatives have rights too Brad. Or do you forget that??

I’m sorry, Ed. Did I accidentally say somewhere that someone didn’t have the "right" to do something?
The yutz who runs the Aladdin (ran it into the ground, in fact) has the right to do anything he wants (as long as it’s legal, and breaking the contract he had with Ronstadt by disallowing her back to her room may very well have been an illegal breach of contract – we’ll see).
Anyway, assuming no law broken, he has the right to what he wants, much as I have the right to ridicule him for his stupid statements (such as the one I quoted), and his poor judgment.

How is political commentary from Linda Ronstadt "plying her trade"?? She is a singer, and she like the DC’s should consider her audience before making stupid political statements. Glad we agree that everyone has rights.

She’s a performing artist…you know, like Toby Kieth or Charlie Daniels or Martina ("Independence Day" for you Hannity fans) McBride. Those artists who express their point of view on stage through what they sing, do and say.
And clearly she did "consider her audience" as she’s continuing making the same song dedication to Michael Moore after this silly incident (where Rightwingers walked out, threw glasses, and defaced property – according to reports) as she did in the year or so prior to being booked by the Aladdin. They booked her. They – theoretically – knew her act. What’s the problem here?

Brad I’ll be honest I don’t care about Toby Kieth’s politics anymore than I do Linda or Natalie Maines. Toby knows his audience and he has never (to my knowledge) started an uprising with something he said on stage. I don’t think you will ever see him singing at the Democratic Convention but if he did he would have the SENSE to know the possible consequenses of what he said and accept responsibility for it. In Vegas the customer is always right, you know this I know this. She got up there and said what she said and now she upset because she was thrown out. If she did not want to accet the consaequences she should have kept her mouth shut. Not because she doesn’t have the right to say it but because she was not willing to possibly be thrown out on her considerable ass. So there.

Well, first off, the fact that you felt it necessarily to insult Ronstadt’s "considerable ass" helped set the tone for my reply.
Secondly, and more importantly, you said nothing other than "now she upset because she was thrown out." which I have not seen reports of (have you?) And that "If she did not want to accet the consaequences she should have kept her mouth shut."
Apparently she accepted the consequences — just like Toby Kieth, who toured Iraq with Al Franken, by the way — just fine. So again, you seem to be saying nothing.
And then you talk about her "considerable ass".
The original post was about another American, who believes as you do apparently, that the stage is no place for a performer to do what they do (as pointed out earlier, she’s been doing the same act for months prior to being hired, and having her contract possibly breached by Aladdin). You seem to agree that stage performers should watch what they say, and that the customer (in this case, presumably the ones that threw drink glasses, and destroyed property) are "always right".
Never mind the majority of folks who continued watching the show, and who gave LR a standing ovation. Would that majority then be "wrong" by your non-statement?
And is Timmins wrong for having broken his agreement with her to give her a room for the night?
Or do all these questions make you feel like you want to make another post which says nothing, except that Ronstadt has a "considerable ass".
