No "planted" audience. Real Americans. It looked like our president SHOULDN’T BE the president. Guess what? These people at the funeral were Americans! Looks funny when the audience isn’t stacked, doesn’t it? The boy in the bubble was out of the bubble, not surrounded by 100% pro-Bush backers. He was actually surrounded by "other" Americans! Wow! He should’ve "called in sick" for the funeral.

My take on the funeral is nothing like we’re told to think by the rightwing media (by that I mean the MSM). I watched Democracy NOW! coverage of the funeral. No comments on what we should think, just coverage. And what I saw was several great Americans giving stirring speeches. If people stood up and cheered, they were cheering passages from the Bible, or cheering quotes from great patriots. Rightwingers twist this as an attack on Bush. If rightwingers construe people applauding Bible passages as an attack on Bush, then isn’t Bush not following the Bible??? Or if speakers quoted great passages from past patriots, and the people stood and cheered, and the rightwingers said they were Bush-bashing, doesn’t that mean Bush is going against the visions of those great patriots???

There was no Bush-bashing. Just the guilt of rightwingers claiming that cheering Bible passages and quotes from great patriots is Bush-bashing, because he is going against the Bible and the visions of past American patriots.

Guilt, guilt, guilt…is why rightwingers think this was Bush-bashing!

Is there a transcript of the show available anywhere. I can’t watch anything from this computer and I missed the show. 🙁

What was up with Senator "Huckleberry" Graham? I’ve seen 3 year olds with more control over themselves than he had.

Oh, bull, #1…. * was getting bashed within an inch of his life, in civil tones, which is what Coretta would have wanted, and there’s NOTHING wrong with bashing the living snot out of somebody trying, and succeeding, to turn this country fascist. It’s probably why the little varmint is suddenly trying to cut loose with some trumped-up reasons for his felonious activities.

There were no direct attacks on Bush.

"For war billions more, but no more for the poor"

Is that an insult to Bush? Yes, because it’s what he represents. So too does half of Washington D.C.

It’s also what the Kings lived.

Carter’s speech? MLK was spied on, by democrats, no less. If that’s a Bush-bash it’s only because of what he represents.

They would have said the same stuff no matter who the president was, and whether he was sitting right behind them or not.

Those uppity civil rights activists have a habit of speaking truth to power.

Making political pseeches at a funeral is wrong regardless of its content. Its not the first time libs have disgraced themselves this way. This is just the next in the line of funerals like Wellstones. Of course it only ensures on stay in power.

    Thanks Again!

Who made you the funeral police Ricky? If you don’t like how those uppity liberals conducted the funeral, go have a funeral of your own. Have Ann Coulter stand guard at the door.

Were you so appalled at the funerals of Reagan and Thurmond too, Ricky?

This isn’t about politics. This is real f*cking life.

I’ve seen the funerals of Wellstone, Rosa Parks, and Coretta Scott start to finish without any commentary, and they were all dignified, uplifting, and respectful. It’s become some kind of urban legend that they were anything but.

I’ve been watching the Daily Show on my puter down here in Mexico for the last year. He seems to be the only one that I can enjoy hearing from anymore. The right BS’ers make my blood boil, and the left and middle just haven’t shown that this ship is sinking in front of our eyes.

Hats off to Stewart for making humor out of this reign of power…but I hope at some point the people are going to wake up and take things seriously.

Anybody watch Gore’s speech on MLK Day? It was great!! But how much true coverage did it get? Not nearly enough. When they show emotion in their voice, they are "angry". Sometimes the truth requires a bit of anger.

Keep doing the good job Brad…and keep watching and posting right-wingers!! It’s the only hope we have that you haven’t turned off the voices of truth and reason altogether.

Joseph Goebbel would be proud of the right media these days. Is he still alive??

Yeah Ricky you make a good point. It is wrong to make political speeches at a funeral. You know what else is wrong? Misleading a country into an illegal war that is putting the country into a deficit that will be paid for the next 3 generations. Hiring cronies with affiliations to defence contractors who only care about where the next contract is coming from. You know what else? Taking billions of dollars from the poor to feed the war machine. Repeatedly lying and continuing to lie about, well pretty well everything. They outed a CIA operative to make a case for war. They discarded Katrina victims like used tissues. They are expanding executive power by allowing illegal wiretaps which threatens to give the Republicans a permanent majority which would be the end of the system of checks and balances. Maybe this is news to you? If it is I suggest reading up. You might actually learn something.

This is the Paul Wellstone funeral, revisited. If you read about what attendee/witness Al Franken said about the funeral vs. the MSM/rightwing spin, it was 2 different stories. I knew the spin was coming. That one reverend was saying things like the Bible says to take care of the poor, and people stood up and cheered. That was Bush-bashing? Did anyone say, "Bush’s wiretaps are illegal." Nothing was directed at Bush. It is all guilt. If the shoe fits…

I didn’t watch Pat Tillman’s funeral but I understand from reading other blogs, that it was quite political. No complaints about that one. He was a ‘patriotic’ American who died a good death for his Country. Then to find out later the whole story of his death was a lie.

This service was not about ‘w’, who seems to believe everything should revolve around him and his world. Then the scowl from stepford laura, if looks could kill……babs couldn’t make it, what a shame, more than likely afraid to face ‘those’ people after the ass she made of herself after Katrina, or ‘Corina’ as laura calls it. They are pathetic.

MSM is history imo, no informed person can stomach them and they may as well shut the doors with congress and the lobbyists. I wonder who will get to be the voice for the new Propaganda Ministry…oh, probably faux, of course. M4

I think I’m not articulating my point clearly. Here’s the best way to put it:

ANY quote from the Bible, Martin Luther King, or Coretta Scott King…can be misconstrued as Bush-bashing…because he’s doing exactly the opposite of the Bible/MLK/CSK. Then, if you quote from the Bible/MLK/CSK…IN FRONT OF HIM…AND PEOPLE THERE STAND AND APPLAUD…it’s DEFINITELY misconstrued as Bush-bashing! But it isn’t.

The Bush’s looked miserable didn’t they? Reminds me of when I was going to fundamental churches and was told that the demons got upset if you said Jesus around them. I’d say Jesus around some mentally ill people I was working with at the time. Never got the big response I was expecting. I think I see it in the George and Barbara picture, however.

    You want disgrace, Ricky?

Check out THIS video of a slideshow created by your beloved president:

George W. Bush pissing on the graves of 1000’s of Americans and Iraqis is what I call "disgraceful".

Did you laugh at this video along with Lieberman and the rest of the press corps when he presented this WMD joke speech, Ricky.

I know that you probably did.

    Hey Ricky!

Are you aware of Martin Luther King’s remarks at the funeral for three of the four young girls who were killed by a bomb set in a church in Birmingham, Alabama?

Let me refresh your memory. Here’s a cut and paste:

These children-unoffending, innocent, and beautiful-were the victims of one of the most vicious and tragic crimes ever perpetrated against humanity.

And yet they died nobly. They are the martyred heroines of a holy crusade for freedom and human dignity. And so this afternoon in a real sense they have something to say to each of us in their death. They have something to say to every minister of the gospel who has remained silent behind the safe security of stained-glass windows. They have something to say to every politician [Audience:] (Yeah) who has fed his constituents with the stale bread of hatred and the spoiled meat of racism. They have something to say
to a federal government that has compromised with the undemocratic practices of southern Dixiecrats (Yeah) and the blatant hypocrisy of right-wing northern Republicans. (Speak) They have something to say to every Negro (Yeah) who has passively accepted the evil system of segregation and who has stood on the sidelines in a mighty struggle for justice. They say to each of us, black and white alike, that we must substitute courage for caution. They say to us that we must be concerned not merely about who murdered them, but about the system, the way of life, the philosophy which produced the murderers. Their death says to us that we must work passionately and unrelentingly for the realization of the American dream.

Would you have condemned Dr King for being too politically incorrect at this funeral?

Face it, Ricky, those of us who fight the good fight WANT things like this brought up at our funeral, because we WANT to be remembered for our beliefs, our values, our sacrifices and our lives.

Our lives have meaning, and we have no problem with others being reminded of that meaning.

What mark have YOU made on this world? How have YOU made it better?

In your short, irrelevant life, have you accomplished anything at all?

    How will YOU be remembered?

I do not see why truth should be banned from a funeral.

Merriam Webster reports that in 2005, "integrity" received more hits than any other word in their online dictionary (link here).

Integrity and truth are of the same family, and this family is the enemy of the current regime.

That family is of the American people, who are searching for integrity and truth, and they know it is not coming from the republican party.

Accountability is integrity in action, and in November the body politic needs to get out the paddle and vote out the party of corruption, which is the all powerful republican party.

    Integrity depends on it.
