We have had army and marine recruiters calling our house repeatedly to try and recruit our 19 year old son who is a sophmore in college and not the least interested in the military. Due to a very busy schedule my son has never been at home when they called to personally tell the recruiters that he is not interested.
We received their latest call last night and my husband tried to explain to the recruiter that calling repeatedly is a waste of his time since even if the recruiter manages to catch our son at home he would tell them he is definitely not interested in the military. The recruiter responded: "That's okay; I'm used to rejection."

Wait a second...recruiting for the war? I thought we were already in the army, fighting evil and injustice. Just this morning I ripped my newspaper to shreads for its failure to acknowledge the battle at hand. That'll teach them! Every day I'm ducking more and more lines of bullsh-t...almost got a shrapnel wound from one big blast regarding newsweek. I did lose my hearing for a while, but it came back once the shock wore off. I send missiles via blogs like this and editorial sections of the multiple newspapers, but I don't think I've hit anyone yet. I need some more practice shooting til I get it right. I see my company-mates all over the web, fighting the same battles as I. We stick to the hit and run plan, though lately, I think most of us are getting tired of the running part. I'm ready to give it all for the cause.
War is a strange thing. You never quite know who the enemy is...whether it is far away like those Iraqi's, or right here at home with those facists.
I'm running out of bullets, my tanks have no fuel, the grenade launchers are useless, and the troops are getting tired. Thank god I have stock in bic, because we all know ... the pen is mightier than the sword.

I suppose, when our military service began being treated as a commodity (must have been the term "service" that confused Bush), that the country's potential "servicemen" began to bow out. It's not about trade and commodity, it's about defense and protection...and therefore we have no business in Iraq.
If recruitment is down 42%, we are winning the propaganda war.

I think Bush and all in his administration should do the patriotic thing and head to the front lines of Iraq to lead the troops! After they are dead, America can declare "mission accomplished" and get out of Iraq.

Send your kids to New Zealand on student exchanges ,we have good healthcare, good schools and uni's but we don't have nukes.Maybe if more Americans lived a while oversea (not as soldiers) they might see "the big picture".

Just got a call from a survey for the Defense Department. They wanted to know how many people between the ages of 16 and 21 lived in my house. I made the mistake of saying none (the truth) and they hung up. Anybody else get a similar call?

The toon is too much.
I think bu$h is in the yoda outfit saying "doing good for demockracy you are" to the mindless automotons being appealed to.
Rummy is in the wookie outfit responding to the questions with "uuuunnnnnggggghhhhh" which is wookie for "we'll be in and out of Iran in 90 days tops".

The military also isn't telling recruits that over 50% of vets from GWI (I just realized, GW stands for "Gulf War AND George Bush!!!) are now disabled from Depleted Uranium (DU). That's 325,000 vets from GWI, that were healthy when they came back. Also, 11,000 vets have died from GWI because of effects of DU. DU is in our bombs. When a bomb goes off, DU becomes vaporized. Contact with vaporized DU causes disability or death. Imagine how many Iraqi civilians have died or became disabled from DU! Our government knows of the scientific evidence of this, and is doing nothing. Vets from the present Iraq War will feel the effects years from now, like the vets from GWI. Principi stepped down because of the growing scandel over DU, even though he didn't publicly state so. The American Free Press has lots of articles about it.

Students should put up a "Effects Of DU" stand in high schools, right next to all the military recruiter stands.

That's one of my favorite parts of Moore's movie, Farenheight 9/11 - when he tries to get all of the congress men to enlist their own kids. It's all fine to send our kids over there - but not thiers? I'd really like to see how many congressmen have their kids enlisted. In fact, how many of them actually served themselves? I'm not sure what the count would end up as - but I bet it wouldn't be that high.

I wonder how close to completion the 14 permanent military bases in Iraq are?
US withdrawal probably means falling back to those bases (link here).
