      Meremark @ 2:

In that case, “ghastly” may be a bit of an overstatement. While I’m no fan of 100% unverifiable touch-screen Ballot Marking Devices (BMDs) — as you likely know — in the case you cite, they appear to be for optional use by disabled voters. Some kind of device for disabled voting is required in each polling place by HAVA.

If it was to be used by ALL voters at the precincts (such as the system that is coming to Los Angeles County — the nation’s largest voting jurisdiction!) then I’d have a VERY big problem with it.

Was trying to help. Figured the ‘Alabama News’ site was generally untrafficked.

      No good intent goes cautiously.

In fact I did not read the exact text before I sent the link. Didn’t notice it was handicapped voters getting the machines.

Dribs of reports suggest absentee voting might be a significant tilt for Tuesday.
Thanks for your effects and thanks for you, Brad.

      Hi Desi and Brad,

Fluor Corporation (Fluor stands for the element fluorine, which is what Teflon is made of) lands a $831 million dollar contract to rebuild Puerto RicoÕs electric grid. http://www.utilitydive.com/news/

Tesla corporation has installed a half dozen batteries on two smaller islands off Puerto Rico, Vieques and Culebra. The 250kWh & 500kWh systems are helping maintain power at critical facilities now, and in the future will assist in maintaining grid reliability across the islands. And AES has been coordinating with PREPA to roll out a half dozen 1 MWh batteries.

AES corporation (Applied Energy Systems started under the Nixon Administration) revenue in 2015 was $15 billion dollars.

PREPA Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority

Note: Sometimes journalists (as in this Utility Dive article excerpt that I corrected) refer to battery size in terms of Òwatts.Ó No. ThatÕs not correct. The correct units of size measurement are Òwatt*hoursÓ (or watt‧hours).

If you use a water tank metaphor to think of electrons stored in a battery, then its size is measured in terms of gallons (volume) and the gallons per minute that can flow out is its output – which dries up over time. (The diameter of the outlet pipe and the pressure exerted on the pipe determines how much water can flow out of the tank – how fast it empties.)

So, watt*hours measures the size of the battery, and watts measures the flow of electrons out of the battery. (The higher the voltage, the faster the electrons will flow out, and the bigger the conductor, the faster the electrons will flow out.) So you can have a little battery that you can put in your pocket that can jump-start your car engine – once (on a single charge). For solar applications, you want a big battery that can discharge over a long time.
Watt-hours is a measure of energy, like calories, British Thermal Units, or joules. Watts is a measure of power, like horsepower (energy per minute).
