Just a suggestion when reading some of this stuff--beware of disinformation.
Quoting from AmericaBlog's current front page...
'Folks, just a word of caution to everyone on visiting our site, but also to the good folks working like dogs at DailyKos, World o Crap, and everyone else on this story. I'm starting to sense some disinformation coming our way, especially in the comments section of the blog. We've all finally captured the attention of the mainstream media and made this story a story. We've also captured the attention of the Bush administration and other GOP bad guys, and I suspect they're trying to feed us bad info so we jump on it, print it and thus they can try to debunk all of our good work.
All I'm saying is that I recommend everyone be doubly careful about sussing out any information you find, see printed, or receive before running it on your blog, emailing it around as truth, etc.
Everyone has done such great work to date, let's make sure we don't let these guys win at their dirty tricks.

I couldn't agree with you more. It only takes one false lead to discredit an entire blog, but I'm sure Brad and other host bloggers are responsible enough not to follow that trap.
To be honest, some of those hard left blogs are down right right scary. It's about as hate filled as the right wing blogs. Sometimes I can't even tell the difference if it's right or left. It's just all hate.

Mindless hate is mindless. But hatred of evil has its place. Please don't discount all far-left sites because they "hate" the B-word and all it stands for. So do I. There is a difference between opposition for its own sake and discriminating protest. It takes a discriminating peruser to differentiate between the two.

We are in agreeance with disliking Gdub, but a lot of hard left blogs throw in a lot other stuff that is more opinion than fact. Let's say you hate a guy because he's a thief, a liar, and a bully. Hate him for those reasons. Don't lump him in with murderers and rapists. I hope you see where I'm getting at. (The analogy has nothing to do with B***. It's just an analogy for discussion sake.)
Didn't mean to discredit the hard left, but they do a lot of things I disagree with. That's why I like Brad's sight. It's truly fair and balanced, and full of intelligent patriots, like yourself . I'm sure you could appreciate that.

Hopefully the next few days will tell whether or not the MSM will do it's job and blow this whole deal wide open. There are some encouraging signs, but I'm not getting my hopes up yet because the depth of the right wings control of information/disinformation is near total.
We need somehow to get the first domino to fall, then maybe this will grow by it's own momentum (fingers crossed) I saw some video last night that alternately gave me hope and at the same time left me shaking my head at the total ignorance of events that inhabits the minds of so many Americans. With apologies to Peg C :>), here is the link to truthouts cool Red State Roadtrip series that you can view in small installments.
I found this article laying out just how long and how complete the right wings media control, of which Gannon/Guckert is a tiny part, really is.
"one might say that conservatives view the war of ideas as an extension of violent conflict by other means, including the use of propaganda and disinformation"
Thanks again for Brad's fervent struggle to keep us informed. We really need you.

Let me say we should absolutely not let go of this Gannongate ankle.
The Repubs. made the rules back when they were lynching Clinton. His private sex life and the issue of lying were all so important then.
They made the rules and now should have to live by the same rules. They drew the line in the sand, make them toe that line.
This has absolutely nothing to do with the Left's views or beliefs regarding sexual orientation. This has everything to do with making the Repubs. responsible for their own platform. Don't let them get away with it!!!

Jeff Gannon is considering suing liberal interest groups, bloggers and others for a "political assassination" that drove him from his job as a reporter for a conservative news outfit called Talon News, he told NEWSWEEK. Gannon, whose real name is James Guckert, singled out Media Matters --- a "well-funded" liberal group headed by longtime "attack dog" David Brock. ("Everything we wrote about him came from the public record," Brock replied.)
This guy's a bigger idiot than I thought.

Here's a take from The Toronto Star's Tim Harper (Washington Reporter):
"Often witty, sometimes racy, certainly irreverent, frequently sanctimonious, the blogosphere has been bulking up for years.
But the mainstream media have long taken a largely dismissive approach to this world of online political journals: Open. Peek. Chuckle. Close.
No more.
The growing army of American cyber-pundits hunched over their search engines has begun to wield strength that no one predicted.
A promising truthful reflection from a mainstream reporter (albeit a Canadian mainstream reporter).
However, his remarks below these comments focus more on the right-wing blogs. Never does he mention "votergate" or the left-wing blogger achievement of getting a Senator to delay certification of the Prez the first time in over 100 years. Never does he mention the Prez's rectangular back bulge which was brought to the mainstream thanks to left-leaning blogs (and later killed by the so-called "liberal" media).
(sigh) The article, in the end, turns into another preach-piece on how blogs should be "handled-with-care".
Tim Harper leaves us with a warning (from columnist Kathleen Parker - a self-proclaimed "fan" of the blogosphere):
"For all their attractive swashbuckling and bravura, bloggers also can become a cyber-mob that acts, as mobs do, without conscience or restraint."
But wait, there's more...
"Parker worries that — if bloggers continue to believe everything is fair game — "off the record" will no longer apply and the ability to speak freely will become a thing of the past."
Now there's a new one I haven't heard before!! LMFAO!!! By accurately reporting what was actually said, bloggers are now going to indirectly cause people not to speak freely. Bloggers are now going to "obstruct" the progress of the mainstream media from doing responsible work. You have to ask yourself, why can't the MSM put some of that creativity into their actual work, instead of using it to come up with ridiculous excuses for why they aren't going to continue doing their jobs.
The fact is, bloggers are becoming notorious because THEY are the ones doing the journalism that the MSM refuses to do. THEY are the ones connecting the dots that the MSM refuses to connect and/or see. And the majority of these dots so happen to be ON THE RECORD --- lies and all.
A journalism professor in this article says,
"We [bloggers] see 'red meat' and we swarm."
When these bloggers refuse to eat the same sanitized corporate-approved pablum every day, you're damn right these hungry wolves are going to swarm when we see prime-rib continue to be thrown into a mile-high pile of manure. We, after all, are not afraid to get a little dirty.

I find it curious, if not timely, that as reported at aol News a former advisor to Bush 1 came out with so-called secret tapes of the younger Bush in 1998 that supposedly reveal George Bush refused to "gay" bash to win votes from the christian right? Hmmm? George W. Bush, that sensitive caring man of conviction standing up for gays?
Well, all I can say, is that it sure helped when Bush and Rove decided gay bashing was good to win the governorship in 1994 and the presidency in 2004. Goerge W. Bush and Karl Rove are men without conscience and I have absolutely no problem lumping them in with murderers since killing over 100,000 human beings is exactly that. An unjustifiable homicide is an unjustifiable homicide (murder) anywhere in the world.
These men must be arrested and prosecuted and should not be permitted to be wined and dined in Europe and let by gones be by gones in the mass graves of Iraq! WAR FRAUD! ENERGY FRAUD! ELECTION FRAUD! RELIGIOUS FRAUD! MEDIA FRAUD! and now GAY FRAUD!

Another good blog to follow:
http://blog.democrats.com/blog/6
Gay Republicans
by Bob Fertik on 02/15/2005 10:10am. - revised 02/19/2005 11:26am
Beginning in the late 1970's, Republicans seized control of every branch of the U.S. government in part through vicious gay-baiting.
After Bill Clinton won his first victory in 1992, Republicans immediately and relentlessly attacked him for tolerating gays in the military.
In 2004, Bush and the Republican Party made their opposition to gay marriage the centerpiece of their campaign. They put anti-gay marriage amendments on state ballots to turn out homophobic voters. They furiously attacked John Kerry for pointing out (in a supportive way) that Dick Cheney's own daughter is openly gay.
Now we know Bush's White House waved a gay male prostitute - Jim Guckert - into White House press conferences nearly every day for two years. Guckert, like many closeted gay Republicans, engaged in vicious gay-bashing himself: during the 2004 campaign, he wrote articles accusing John Kerry of running to be the "first gay president."
Jesus said, "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone."
It's time to expose every Republican gay-basher who is gay.

LOL
Maybe Georgie boy has his own Lewinsky scandal brewing? Maybe there is something more to those overtly friendly comments and gestures he made to the Canadian Prime Minister's aid while at the Mexico Summit last year? Just maybe there is something more to those stories about what George was doing while undressing for his Skull and Bones buddies?
Quite frankly, nothing will surprise me anymore when you combine such hypocritical power hungry characters and the deceptions of feigned legitimacy used to protect the interests of powers far greater than themselves. The exploitations of fear and emotion associated with homosexuality and any other sexual freedom, reproductive or otherwise, are part of the ongoing charade to mask their own personal and political failings in order to maintain their own personal wealth and power, and in doing so, protect the wealth and power of those who pull their strings.
As I have said and will always say, these are men without conscience, which is why tens of thousands of dead men, women, and children are simply not on their mental or emotional radar. They were collateral damage in the battle for economic and energy dominance. Gays are equally the collateral damage for social and political dominance, even if the ones exploiting the fears of homosexuality are in fact homosexual or bisexual themselves.
Domestic and foreign hypocrisy is The State of Our Union, yet somehow George W. Bush forgot to tell us all that in January. Gay deceptions, war crimes, and all the other games played by this White House only further justifies the need to fully investigate what computer fraud and manipulation took place during the election to insure their continued stay in power. Afterall, if one can murder and deceive without conscience, a computer crime is hardly an afterthought!

Here's something we can do re: gannongate ala The Rude Pundit:
http://rudepundit.blogspot.com/
Fanning the Flames of Gannon/Guckert:
The weekend is approaching, and, with it, the potential end of the news life of the Gannon/Guckert debacle. Yes, Left Blogsylvania is trying to keep it alive and demanding answers, but if the story stays confined to LB (with some dribblings to the rest of the media and DC), it's lost. Yesterday, the Rude Pundit proposed a strategy to get the story hotter: co-opt the moralists of the right, primarily the Christian fundamentalist community, through their blogs and websites. Write letters and comments where we disguise ourselves as goodly, godly Republicans who are just oh-so-disgusted to bursting.
Today, the Rude Pundit gives a list of potential recipients of your "moral outrage" over the noted top-for-hire with the cut penis, James Guckert, finding his way into the White House. By the way, if you're uncomfortable pretending over the gay angle, why, then use the prostitute angle for your anger - it's twice the sin for half the price. Rather than just target Fox "News," send e-mails and/or post comments to some of these sites and blogs, where the rumbles of the rabble can reach a maximum density quickly. The idea here is that you, as a mole, a fly in the ointment, a ghost in the machine, will infiltrate and cause others, the real fundies and wingnuts, to respond in kind. These are not links - you'll have to copy-and-paste the addresses so it's not traceable back to, like, this post telling you where to go. And, you know, this is just a starting point:

Don't believe you will find anything very controversial about the pRes in those "secret" tapes made by Doug Wead. The timing has stinkin' Rove tracks all over it.
Check out this article:
http://www.independent-m...ry_desc=Under%20Reported
...The Bush Family & Religious Heathens
Several members of the media have looked into the relationship between the two Bush Presidencies and members of the extreme Religious Right Wing. After reading up on that gang, the only thing I know for sure, is that there is not a single honest person in the whole bunch.
First off, lets take a look at evangelist Doug Wead, a divorced Baptist Minister, and former Diamond distributer, who is still a regular speaker at Amway conventions.
Wead was the first President Bush's liaison to the Christian Right and he later served as Special Assistant to the President in the first Bush White House. Time magazine referred to him as "the man who coined the phrase the compassionate conservative."
He was linked to the second President Bush early on as well. US News and World Report described Wead as an "old friend and advisor" to George W Bush. In the book, First Son, Author and Dallas Morning News Reporter, Bill Mintuglio, said that Wead was a man who had spent years "preparing strategy reports" for both President Bush and GW.
The book claims W was the family liaison to hard-edged conservatives and to Christian evangelical leaders, developing close ties to (among others) defeated ... congressional candidate Doug Wead, with his Amway and Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker connections.
In 1998, W decided it was his turn. Within days of his reelection as governor, W was secretly planning to run for President, because, as he said, he felt certain he had been called. He was encouraged in this belief by evangelical friends like Doug Wead and by his mother, who called him the Chosen One," according to Kitty Kelly's book, the Family.
Anticipating W's reelection, Wead had already written a memo encouraging him to run, You have been given a great opportunity, an opportunity that has been denied to many who have sought it. It is a gift that has rarely been extended. It might not ever be extended again, Wead wrote.
Years earlier, Wead had lost his own Congressional bid after Republican Senator Barry Goldwater, threw his support behind Wead's Democratic opponent, and stunned the Christian community with the remark, "I don't think God should be sold for money."
Goldwater was obviously a good judge of character and realized that it would be better to have a Democrat in office than a charlatan like Wead. And he was absolutely right, because as it turns out, Wead's past with Amway is even shadier than most people know.

As someone has mentioned before on BradBlog, and I agree, those who protest the loudest against the "gay crowd" are those who are most attracted to it, and don't want anyone to know it. So they get together with the Gannon Guckie's at the W.H. and...Oh, whoops, strike this last sentence - no evidence.
All you researchers: WHO ARE GANNON'S BOYFRIENDS AT THE WHITE HOUSE??? I CAN HARDLY WAIT TO HEAR!!!! I can't believe he went there nearly every day for two years and no one knows anything! I guess everyone in Washington can be had for a price - souls for sale - integrity for sale - lies for sale - anything you want FOR SALE in Washington.

Three more questions for Gannon:
1) Since it was simply a matter of a few mouse clicks to access the pornographic pictures on your websites, did you ever take any precautions to make sure that innocent children (minors) did not have access as well?
2) In your 'sex for hire' occupation, were you ever approached by minors for sex, and if you were, would you take them up on it?
3) As an adult, did you ever have sex with a minor?

Hi y'all
Well its time to move Gan/Guk off the front and away from view---we now have a real explosive item. The 'Secret Taping' of the pres by Doug Wead. In unguarded, unknown full view there is george talking and revealing. Revealing what? The secret and thoughtful bush and 'unknown' running plans.
By Wead--the Bush sr. pal etc.-revealing a secret tapping , ho ho ho.
A bush jr. comment about marijuana use is 'Special', he slamms Gore and then shows his Compassion--he will not comment on marijuana use as he 'does not want kids to follow his lead and try it'. Notice how similar that is to the DUI (2000 election) stuff--george did not tell the nation or the 'twins' about his alcoholism because he did not want to influence them to follow his example of over-drinking. And drugging.
What works for Rove always comes back for a repeat performance, no one will notice.

I still think that this whole event has been produced on cue, deliberately. Yes, it has important elements but ultimately has all the smoke 'n' mirrors components required to draw attention away from something else.
The bloggers are getting too close to hard eveidence regarding the Florida and Ohio votes? Throw 'em a homo.
Give the American public a gay sex scandal and any thoughts they may have had about election results will quickly fade until they are nothing but a vague memory. When a story involving GAY SEX competes with a STOLEN ELECTION, the barely repressed desire to pry into the bedroom antics of others becomes overpowering.
It appears to be working too.

Karl Rove is capable of diverting attention from a stolen election by fabricating another scandal.
But I respectfully suggest we shouldn't concern ourselves with Republican strategy. Take facts and go with them. Not speculation, facts only.
Fact: An unqualifed reporter, using an alias, gained regular access to the president.
Fact: He received daily passes to press briefings using that alias, yet his original F.B.I./Secret Service clearance could not have found any evidence he ever existed under the name Gannon.
Fact: Reporters who cover the White House on a regular basis always request a permanent pass, but Guckert/Gannon never did, presumably because it would involve further investigation into his background, yet nobody at the White House did anything about it.
Fact: Guckert/Gannon had classified information about a C.I.A. operative, Valerie Plame.
The homo-stud stuff is juicy, and it does reveal G.O.P. hypocrisy. But to focus on that simply plays Karl Rove's game of political one-upsmanship. He's good at that game, and he has the resources of the presidency that we don't have. The more we talk about Gannon's lifestyle, the less we talk about abuse of power at the federal level.
So, please...let's stick to facts and make sure our elected officials hammer away. The mainstream media ignore bloggers, but not Congressional committees and inquiries from U.S. Senators.

I agree with #69 by Robert Lockwood Mills. I certainly can't figure out the mentality of dirty tricksters or their next moves.
The real point is to hammer on the FACTS and keep hammering at the sloppy, lazy, pork-fed & complicit mainstream media to either do their job or get run out of town in shameful disgrace.
Remember Nashua Advocate blog of Feb. 16, 2005:
"But everyone's looking into it, or should be --- not because gay sex is anything to be ashamed of, but because blackmailing your way to within ten feet of the President of the United States, when you're a $200-an-hour whore, is a scandal this Administration would (and rightly so) be extremely ashamed of.
Did White House officials cover up a sex scandal with political favors?
We're investigating.
And while we continue our investigation, and others continue their investigations, consider this: prostitution, and solicitation thereof, is a crime. So if you hear a conservative news source, like, say, Accuracy in Media, allege that the aforementioned prostitute/journalist's only crime (if indeed he is either of these two things) is being a right-winger ("His crimes were that he was too pro-Republican, attended White House briefings, and asked questions unfair to Democrats"), think again.
Prostitution is illegal.
Solicitation is illegal.
Extortion is illegal.
Bribe-taking, or bribe-giving, by public officials is illegal.
Leaking confidential government documents is illegal.
And covering up criminal behavior is likewise illegal.
As for deciding, when you're the President of the United States, to call on a prostitute during one of your rare press conferences, when you were re-elected based on (supposedly) your position on the gay marriage issue, and your general support for "moral values"?"
Nashua Advocate on February 20, 2005 wrote something very interesting regarding the msm partially waking up (below) and while you're there PLEASE read where their current investigation of gannongate has led!!!
Memo To the Mainstream Media, From the Mainstream Media: The Time for Us to Stand Up and Fight Is Now
By ADVOCATE STAFF
The mainstream media is beginning to rise up in self-defense.
Or half of it, at least.
That half which is sick and tired of being sick and tired, which sees sailing by an America in which the Fourth Estate was one of the nation's most valuable institutions.
That half which knows it has lost the respect and admiration of the public not because of what it says in print, but because of what it refuses to say in print, for reasons having nothing to do with patriotism or journalism and everything to do with fear and convenience, day after day after day.

Here's another great article about the F*****Up WH-Controlled MSMedia. When are they going to wake up and realize half the country wants THEIR resignations?
Where Are All the Resignations of Editors Who Ran Bush Propaganda?
By Dave Lindorff, ILCA Associate Member
When CBS goofed up, people were fired and quit in disgrace. But when dozens, maybe hundreds of news outfits run Bush administration-made propaganda posing as legitimate news reports, nobody has to resign. What gives here?
Okay, so we know now that the Bush administration has been using all kinds of devious means to push propaganda on the American public--fake news generated by the Pentagon for overseas, and ultimately, courtesy of blowback, U.S. consumption, fake news reports by fake reporters peddled to local TV stations, bought reporters and syndicated columnists paid to shill for the administration's policies, and even fake reporters salted into the White House press corps to ask puffball questions if the president or press secretary start getting too much heat.
But why is this all happening? Surely the Bush administration isn't the first to push its story out there. And sure, the administration should take some of the blame for this Soviet-style manipulation of public opinion.
But what about the media?
This column already made the point that if the White House press corps were doing its job and asking tough, probing questions, James Guckert, aka Jeff Gannon, would have stood out like a stallion with a hard-on--er, excuse me, a sore thumb.
But what about the "Karen and Mike Show," those fake "news reports" by fake reporters which were sent directly to local TV stations across the country by the DEA and the Department of Health and Human Services, where they were often aired without question as local reports on administration activities. Do local news shows have so little concern about the content and veracity of their programs that they would just run a report by a reporter they don’t even know without fact-checking it and checking on the credentials of the reporter? Of course not! They had to know that the reports they were broadcasting were from government agencies and were nothing but blatant propaganda. This is the video equivalent of publishing press releases verbatim.
And what self-respecting newspaper would do that?

Call me old fashioned, if you must, blame it on my family values - no, I'm not running for anything, just running (I'm no toilet, but you can jiggle my handle if you think that would help), but oh how I long for the good old days of Elizabeth Raye and Fannie Fox. Heterosexuality wasn't stigmatized back then, of course, and homosexuality wasn't mentioned, so the picayune escapades of the masters were merely amusing, could happen to anyone, gotta watch out about the way power corrupts, all that, wink wink. But now bullsh and the tits-fearing ashhole and their cronies have whipped up the masses to the point a goodly number of them actually think that allowing homosexual unions will somehow threaten their revered "institution of marriage." OK - they've made their point. Now let's see just how cynical and wrong they are. But really, folks, it's about time human sexuality ceased being a subject of malicious ridicule, etc., let's all just cut each other a little slack.
That said, let's go get 'em. Last I heard, being a gay prostitute of any sex qualified you as a major security risk.

Ya know, I'm not sure how this will be received, but I have to be honest here - I almost feel sorry for Guckert - ALMOST.
I mean, imagine how much self-loathing it must take for him to pander to the very political party icons that openly court rabid homophobes to secure power. Yes, he is/was a gay prostitute - but he prostituted himself in a much worse way than sharing some higher-up's pillow. Not to say he wasn't a willing participant in all of this, because I believe he was and is in some weird way enjoying all of the attention he's receiving, however much he protests to the contrary. In fact, I'm betting he's already begun collecting notes and articles for a book he'll write. However, if you look at someone closely enough, you can see who they were before became who they are as an adult, and it is that person that makes me curious...
What happened to turn him to this kind of lifestyle? Was it his fear of being known as a homosexual? Was he one of the many children who were taught to deny their feelings growing up, because it was a mortal sin to feel the way he did for other males? Did he hate his identity so much that he created another one, a polar opposite of who he is, to cope with it? Did he get too confident by putting himself "out there" in the public eye, or was there some secret subconcious desire to be "outted" so he didn't have to pretend anymore?
I know there is a certain level of denial needed just to survive the sex trade kinda life anyway, but does he really have a clue how expendable he is? Is he afraid? He should be.
Just random thoughts tossed out there, for what it's worth.

Peg C...#55...very interesting!
The whole concept of using underground gay networks for political and economic blackmail is very intriguing. Bashing gays on one hand and exploiting gay prostitution services on the other sure sounds like Rove/Bush Inc. footprints, if not fingerprints?
Just the whole disgusting mess of gay prostitution rings, christian right pandering, and neo-nazi promotion can make your head spin. You have to wonder if New Jersey's Democratic ex-Governor was set up in this system of gay sex blackmail?
This really may have some legs...no pun intended! It would probably be poetic justice that a gay bashing White House is brought down by their own hypocrisy, along with whatever other judges and politicians are part of the right-wing phony fascist corporate monarchy.
I believe in sexual freedom. Unfortunately, the right is exploiting that freedom to stay in power by corrupting the emotions of GOD only knows who? As I have written previously from Texas, we know what Karl Rove and George Bush did in 1994 to make the future fuherer become Governor on his way to become President. Gay sex may very well be their hidden trade mark agenda that goes back years as both a method of political blackmail and political strategy. With the Reagan era gay sex ring may be a very long history of corruption and exploitation involving "ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN"!
Like I said...there's some legs here and that has the White House booty shakin'. LOL

Thanks for the excellent Leonard Pitts article, Cheryl. Well - it seems quite a few journalists are coming around. We gotta help them make NOISE!
Here's a great article - a little off the Guckie topic - but very relevant to our problem with the Media:
Five weeks after CBS blamed them for botching an expose into President Bush's questionable service in the Texas Air National Guard, three staffers who were asked to resign are refusing to quit. [includes rush transcript]
They are: Josh Howard, executive producer of "60 Minutes Wednesday"; senior broadcast producer Mary Murphy, and senior vice president Betsy West. The New York Observer is reporting that Howard has hired a lawyer and wants CBS executive Leslie Moonves to retract comments he made following the release of an exhaustive investigation into how the report got on the air. All three staffers remain on the CBS payroll. CBS refused to comment after the Observer broke the story. Along with CBS producer Mary Mapes, the three were blamed for what an independent panel convened by the network called their "myopic zeal" to nail Bush. We're joined now by Joe Hagan, the reporter who broke this story in The New York Observer. The piece is called "The CBS Three Won't Slink Off; Hiring Lawyers."
