Weren't these the ones that were under water? Or was this part of the ES&S deal.. They had to sign a new contract to lock in the new prices.

I would think it would be a good opportunity for someone to buy one and fully audit the code running on it.

The tweet counter is refusing to register tweets (and Facebook still isn't handling your URLs properly; so strange--they used to).

It is becoming increasingly recognized that something funny is going on with black box voting. The turmoil in Wisconsin can be explained by nothing but rigged vote counting in the 2010 election.
Removal of black box voting systems by legislation is not a possibility, since those in the legislatures are there as a result of rigged voting and are not about to change the system.
Voters need a set of state-by-state guidelines on how to beat the rigged system. Guidelines for voting absentee, demanding paper ballots, demanding manual counting of votes, and whatever else it takes to insure that the integrity of every single vote is preserved in 2012.

Makes me wonder what the new machines are like in Ohio. Could they possibly be more consistent in changing votes but less detectable than these Diebold models..

the trouble is the citizens have no power in the counting process,in wisconsin only a candidate can ask for a recount and if they have lost by more than 2%,they have to pay "costs" for the recount up front, and then if i understand the recount manuel, they do NOT actually count the ballots, they just re run them thru the scanner(franken probably would NOT be the senator from minn if this was minns policy)
here is the copy and paste from wisconsins recount manuel:
10. Programming
Optical Scan tabulating equipment may be reprogrammed to count only votes cast in the office being recounted, or only the votes cast for a referendum if the recount concerns a referendum question. After being retested in Step #8 by the board of canvassers and the candidates or their representatives, the ballots will be re-tabulated by the optical scan equipment. The ballots may not be hand counted without a court order. Wis. Stat. § 5.90(2).

more ballots than voters? wisconsin has a section to remedy this...here is a sample of how they handle that:
If the number of ballots still exceeds the number of voters, the board of canvassers places the remaining ballots in the ballot bag. The board randomly draws out, without inspection, the number of ballots equal to the number of excess ballots. These ballots shall not be counted, but shall be marked as to the reason for their removal, set aside and properly preserved. The actions taken under this procedure are also recorded in the minutes. Wis. Stat. § 9.01(1)(b)4.e.

It is looking more and more like the voting machine problems are being ignored and forgotten. At election time there is a big uproar about some machine problems and then after the election voting integrity is addressed by making it more difficult for the poor, elderly and students to vote. I live in NC and am tired of being told my state has good election laws when those laws in reality do absolutely noting to assure that the vote is counted as the voter intended. Our election audit is a sad joke. I try posting comments on sites to raise awareness but it seems like voting groups are giving up. With all the issues of social, economic and environmental justice we march, write and make calls about, I wonder how any of it really matters as long as we vote using electronic equipment manufactured and serviced by Republican right wing corporations. If the media was really liberal and progressive, this would be front page news until the machines are no more.

"refurbished" should mean "like new," correct? Then can we assume that these machines will faithfully flip votes and possible miscount (after all, they're not verifiable") ballots cast on them? If not, what good could they possibly be in preparing for the next mass fraud, scheduled for November of 2012? I want my money back, and I haven't even spent any!
